I remember seeing the pic of your M with the new Intrax springs a little while ago, how are they treating you? Have you had the problems that others have had when they lowered their M's?

    I used this part (LHS):

    http://www.wyckoff-mopar-parts.com/emattopofpag.html

The pull cord is basically like the emergency handle that can be installed -- it is wholly in/on the trunk lid, pulled through slits cut in the liner.

Since I wanted the wings as far up as possible while still covering the keyhole hole, dremeling out the back of the emblem the depth of the chrome lock (so I wouldn't have to remove the lock) probably would have broken through the bottom edge of the emblem. The emblem is quite thick.

what is this shoe goo stuff you guys keep talkin about--is that a brand name--where do you buy it--is the glue job reversible--how much did you use on that wing emblem?----

to chime in on a few:

I still have the original weatherstripping...no ripples on it.

Still have the fake wood showing...dont have a dimple on it.

exshoman: thanks for posting that Infinity link. I liked the unit but not for Crutchfields $500.

scotian: that wing looks great on the rear!

    99 M, just passed 32,000...its all good!

I can't believe they installed your window wrong. What a bunch of morons! Also, I have the same problem with my seat. I notice it especially when I downshift hard. It feels like it's scooting forward about 1/2 inch or so. I remember someone here posting that they asked their dealer about it and they said it was "in spec".

    Here is a link to some information on Shoe Goo, or Shoe Goop (depending on who you ask). My local Napa store has Automotive Goop, which is probably similar to Shoe Goo(p) but made for automotive applications. The story linked below also has contact information for the company that makes the stuff;

Just read that Automotive Goop and Marine Goop are made to resist weather (unlike Household goop). Also, if you do a search at www.google.com on "automotive goop" you'll get hundreds of web pages that talk about people using it to fix their car...from gluing down a vacuum tube to replacing the clip tabs on hub caps. :)

You can get this stuff in the automotive or hardware departments at Walmart, KMart, Target, Ace Hardware, etc.

I used it back in the 80's to glue the soles back on to my Asahi canvas tennis shoes (How's THAT for a trip back in time!). It was originally made for soe repairs, hence the name Shoe Goo. If you can imagine hot melt glue without the heat and with a good bit more holding power, you've got it.

Just back from Vacation and found that my "wings" emblem had arrived from Wyckoff. I am now ready to apply it to the trunk, but I want to be sure that the prep is ok. Car has only seen the "no- touch" car washes and got the hot wax by the spraying unit. I intend to clean the area really well, and maybe use Formula 409 to be sure as much wax as possible is off it before I apply the emblem, and hope it adheres well. I have Kiwi goop if needed. AV,sdmike2, Scotian, Dustin--do I need to do more prep other than a thorough cleaning? I do not want to "rough-up" the finish because with my luck it will need to be re-sited or won't stick, and I will be left with a bad spot on the finish. It appears the emblem has only a slight curve which should work well on the curve of the trunk. I am going to put it equidistant between the 3rd brake light and the trunk lock. What say you?

Second point: check out Donie Odulios artistic impressions of autos at donie@cydoniapress.com. From some pictures of my car that Roger posted for me some time ago Donie did a super drawing/rendition of my 300M in platinum with all the little idiosyncrasies of my car. I am sure that he would do a great job for "Big Red" and all the other special Ms out there whose owners share the pride I have in my great car. I have asked him for permission to post a picture of the work on this site and will do so if he allows it. He said he is re-working his site and may post a copy of my car there to. But, in any event, I will be bringing a copy of the finished product to the Detroit gathering in August. He also did my next car: a 300 Hemi C, and did a great job on that too.

    jggodson-

Yes, when the AC is on, the compressor does cycle on and off. That's is what you are feeling when you are driving.

    scotian-

"When they replaced my bulging window trim, they installed it so the window is on the wrong side! Do they have monkeys doing this stuff?"

LOL.....NO monkeys- just "5-STAR factory trained" mechanics. I wonder WHEN, WHERE and HOW OFTEN they have to go for training? Until they get it right?

    Don't rough up anything.

What say me? Put it over the trunk lock:

    http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1280646&a=13301458&p=50534652&f=0

I just washed the trunk lid as normal, wiped rubbing alcohol over it, carefully measured and positioned two pieces of masking tape for the wing placement, pulled the backing off of the emblem, and carefully applied it in the right spot, which for me was right over where the lock was.

easyrider300m - No Shoe Goo used to apply emblem; it has its own adhesive. I used some to seal it from behind, however.

My original, shrinking, weatherstrip did not have ripples. And the new drivers weatherstrip doesn't have any ripples (according to the work order, it too was replaced).
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
is nice because while it will adhere very well to anything that is clean, it can be fairly easily removed, often in one large chunk if you work it properly. It also seems to be waterproof enough for what I've used it for.

I too am in the market for the Infinity powered sub-woofer to add to my 2000-M . . .

I sent this message to Infinity:
ZED Audio (Interned retailer) is selling the Infinity Bass Link powered sub woofer for $259.31. Are they an authorized Infinity retailer or is this a "gray" product that does not have a US warranty. Please advise since I am in the market for this product.

I received this message from Infinity:
This product is not being sold by an authorized dealer and will not have a factory warranty. The only two authorized to sell are ww.crutchfield.com
    and www.cartotys.com.

Not to be an alarmist, but need some insite. Recently, when starting up my '99M in the morning, I see exhaust smoke blowing out of the tailpipe(s).
I have 43k miles on it, 90% interstate. Any clue on what might cause this?

This only happens in the morning and seems to disappear after the car has run for about 10 seconds...then good all day.

Yes, change I do my LOF religiously every 3k by my 5* dealer.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
Ebay is a good source too. Most places wil let you return it to them instaed of Infinity to fix, or repair the item. But how offen does anyone use the factory warranty on items like that. I have never needed to in my life so far.

beach the intrax springs are REAL REAL nice. the handling and cornering is superb. i love'em. the only bad part of course is that i scrape everything, and anything. speed bumps, bank pull-ins, blah blah, so it kinda sucks that way, but if i break my bumper il'l have a good excuse to make that ground effects kit ;)
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
That's exaclty why I didn't lower mine. I was too afraid :) BTW what's the drop on that kit?
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
When are you going to have some more pics up of the drop? I know you said that the handling is great and you scrape everything but what does it ride over the bumps like? I went to www.intraxsuspension.com and they have both the drop-kit springs and a camber kit for the M. Did you use both?
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
yea fuzzy but its def worth it. you are just scraping the bottom black protective piece. i know you drive in like city so yea i wouldn't go for it. i live in teh mountains, nice long smooth roads. teh city is where it hurts. and beach, you don't have to use the camber kit, i left it off for like 3 days, then put it on, didn't notice a difference, but some friends told me its safer, so i'll stick with it on. i am gonna take it off just for testing sakes and see how it feels this weekend. its great tho, i highly recommend. i'll take some more pics later today, i got class and i'm busy busy, thats where i'm at right now! computer engineering, what a fun class :(
  • bigmike5bigmike5 Member Posts: 960
Roger--Did Donie Odulio contact you about putting an example of a 300M drawing on our site? I gave him your e-mail. He did a super job on the rendition of my baby. I am working on getting suitable framing for the pics he sent me. Everybody should have one of his pics. My wife thinks I'm nuts, it can work for you too. Crazy people get away with a lot of stuff.

Does this smoke have a blueish look to it, or is it white. Does the smoke linger around for a long time or does it quickly dissipate.
  • intrepidspiritintrepidspirit Member Posts: 662
The hole is a couple of inches in from the metal part of the door, maybe 2/3 of the way up the panel from the bottom (I'm going by memory). You can't see it when the door is closed.

Someone else said their door panel replacement also had a hole in it. It's a small, neat hole, looks like its meant to be there, but has no function that I am aware of. Not a big deal.

Maybe it's a breather in case of condensation, but that's kind of far-fetched...

What's that Camber kit and what did it take to install? Thanks
  • sibesibe Member Posts: 102
Whether the reflector is part of the kit? Thanx for keeping me posted. BTW If we assumed for the sake of argument that it's a grand for a pair, it would of course be 2 grand for all four lights with 4 ignitors, balasts, bulbs and specialized reflectors. Hmmmmm serious cash here...

Auto manufacturers do not put HID's in the high beam position due to the amount of time it takes HID's to get to maximum brightness. HID's require a warmup period. MOST people only use high beams for a short period of time when needed, such as flash to pass or to get a better look at upcoming street signs. Although places sell "kits" to replace the 9005 high beam I think it would be overkill, unless you drive around w/your high beams on all the time which will fuel the FEDS fire to have HIDs banned altogether.

    Hi, I'm considering the purchase of a '99 300M.
I'm wondering if an owner of a '99 could tell me whether the '99 has child seat restraints above the back seats like the 2001 has.

    Thanks,
    Rick
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
Only the '00 and '01 300Ms have the package shelf child seat restraint anchors.
For some reason the '01 300M does not have the new anchor bars at the base of the rear seat backs, even though the '01 Sebring sedan does.
    Go figure!

Nope, nothing from Mr. Odulio. I'd be glad to drop him a line if you pass on his e-mail address. Nothing shy about me. I think it would be a neat thing to have on the site. I've seen some of his work and it's very cool.

Congrats, I see you purchased the infinity---your neighbors will love you :-) where do you plan on installing it---If i get one, I was thinking about drilling holes behind the rear armrest ---I would think enough sound would come through---what are your plans---

anyone else mount this unit in their M--would like some feedback on your install--
  • jedi_knightjedi_knight Member Posts: 89
Yes thats right another happy M owner.....Whom you may ask?

My Mother in law drove mine in December when I picked BigBlue up and she fell in love with it. She picked up a '01 Black with the tan interior, all the options. Now the tough thing will be to get it away from her husband who likes it more than his Jeep Grand Cherokee!

Roger - Thanks for the link. I'm now a proud purchaser.

It's my understanding that subs can basically go anywhere. I was thinking about mounting flat in the trunk behind the passenger side rear seat. That way it won't interfere with my fold-down. If anyone gets one before me and installs it themselves I'd love to see the wiring schematic and settings that you used.

My neighbor keeps coming by and asking LOTS of questions about the M. My guess is that Big Red will soon have a relative on the block.Maybe I can get him to do some engine experimentation. Anything you can trick your inlaws into trying? HID kit maybe? LOL

I seem to remember someone here posting the wiring diagram for the stock infinity system. Was that you Av? It would be great to have that again. So, how would you guys recommend wiring in this infinity sub? From what I've read it sounds like it might be as simple as tapping into the bass output wires from the existing amp. Since the amp is in the trunk already, the wiring path would be simple. Then we would simply adjust the sub amp power to the proper listening level given a certain bass setting (possibly center position) on the three channel equalizer. Ok...what am I missing here? I know it can't be that easy. ;)

Here is the home page for the Basslink. There is a link to a PDF owner's manual that might have some more information in it

    http://www.infinitysystems.com/caraudio/product.asp?ProdId='BASSLINK'

  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Duh..gotta run power to the battery or fuse box (25 amp). The user's manual is very informative for that Basslink. It has two sets of inputs, one set for if your head unit has sub controls and another set if the head unit only has speaker level controls. I haven't seen any sub controls on the infinity head unit, so I'm guessing it's speaker level output to the amp. It also has controls for optimizing the phasing of the bass depending on it's proximity to your other bass speakers. Ok...now I'm getting excited. LOL

hey whats up ... pics will be up on my website sometime today ... i just took all the pics yesterday ... 38 pics of the car in various positions INCLUDING PARKED ON A 7 1/2" DOGLEG !!! ... haha ... i am taking the car back up this friday to have the 2 back cylinders replaced, get my chrome air tanks installed to get rid of those nasty black ones and have that 300M woodgrain box wired up to be my switchbox ... i will put another post out here when the site is updated and it will be sometime today ... also yes i will still be doing the paint along with suiciding the rear doors, changing the hood to open right to left and the truck to open left to right, shaving all handles, key holes, 3rd brakelight and many many other things but i have to keep some secrets ... haha =) ...
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
How much does something like that run? Wondering??
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
I'm not a big car stereo weenie, so I'm going to depend on the wisdom and creativity of others for my installation. I think probably the wiring and connections are the biggest issues, mounting location is secondary.

If anyone else is interested in picking up one of these puppies, the same EBay seller has several more auctions up, same amp, same price. Here's the current auction (closing today): http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1247475597
