Some people have taken that pop up deflector off completely. Seems to be pretty easy to do.

As I posted the other day, the only retailers that are "authorized" dealers are Cartoys and Crutchfield. The e-bay deals are gray market merchandise and do not carry the manufactures warranty.
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
The EBay seller claims that the Infinity sub has a full manufacturer's warranty. EBay is usually pretty careful about the claims their sellers make.

Unless the merchandise is stolen or a knockoff (pretty unlikely), I'm not sure the manufacturer can legally take the position that they'll only honor a warranty for their products when purchased through certain retailers. I believe there are consumer laws preventing that sort of thing. If the merchandise is the same, I think they'd have a hard time making their case in court. What they tell you and what they can legally do may be two very different things.

If it's a "white box" product, what you say may be true, but if it's the full retail packaging, should make no difference where you bought it or what you paid for it. I'll let you know how it's packaged when I get mine.

I haven't been on this board for months, but its good to see some familiar names. It's just such a pain in the a** to post ever since this board was changed - it wasn't broke so no need to be fixed.

Anyway, I put chrome tips on my exhaust last summer and now they need replacing b/c severely rusted. Does anyone have stainless tips on their exhaust? If so, how much are they and where did you get them?

Why would you need to connect the sub woofer high level inputs to the 6.5" speakers in the front doors as well as the 6x9" speakers under the package shelf? What would be gained? The only thing I can think of is if you were using the fader to remove sound from the back. (A not uncommon request from my kids. They don't like my taste in music). What's up with the warranty issue? If anybody finds out for sure about the "unauthorized" sales channels voiding the warranty let us know. The only way those gray market folks get product is if the authorized channel slips it to them out the back door to make their sales quota.

I finally got Emmy back. When they heated one of the weatherstrips, they apparently didn't even so much as put a simple piece of cardboard between the strip and the inner/upper B pillar trim, so there is a small mark on each where the divot was. Once I slice off a bit with the Exacto it will hardly be noticeable. Same with another strip, but the damage was limited to the strip. No one but I will ever notice any of this, but you'd think they could get these simple things right.

Thanks for the update EH! I presume you work at the 300M plant, I have been a chrysler fan since the late 70's and have had numerous models over the years. I just wish we had access to some of these US prices for after market equipment, and what I am talking about now is the wood trim. I stopped at a dealer yesterday and they did not know that it even existed. Maybe there is a business opportunity here, what do you think? I sure like my car and I think I saw your initials on my car, or am I just dreaming!!!!!

Does anyone know of a website for these places or a phone number. We have a quarter-sized ding in the driver's door, a dime-sized one in the passenger's side rear door, and a few scratches. These stick out really bad on a dark car like the Deep Slate. We had the dealer inspect the driver's door ding once and they gave me a two-page estimate for a few hundred dollars! They wanted to fix the dent, repaint the door, do something with the door handle, and then screw with the Chrysler letters on the door. Well, I think they are a bunch of stupid monkeys that hate their customers--especially the 5* morons!

Does the pop up deflector serve any other purpose then to reduce wind noise? I was wondering if I remove to if the roof may leak. I do know that it seems a lot quieter when I hold it down.

I thenk you clock faces are disttacting the workers, that is why they keep messing up your car.
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
someone else on this board removed his, but then discovered a buffeting wind noise in the rear due to wind coming into the car--I would think removing it might increase air resistance and decrease mileage slightly---the guy that removed it ended up putting it back on---you might try the air deflector that mounts on the roof to cut the noise some on this board have tried it---those who have, does the add on deflector cut wind noise?

I was just putting on the finishing touches on the paint job (hood scoop) when the nozzel clogged up and put a big splatter jog on the paint job. So now I have to sand it down to the paint and reapply the color and then the clear coat. At times like this I wish I had got the stone white color:(

After my weatherstripping was replaced, each had at least one ripple. It's been a few months and the ripples don't seem to have lessened, but I park indoors both at home and at work. I just decided that it didn't bother me much.

I've noticed that the moonroof wind deflector seems to create more noise (compared to holding it down by hand), at least at some speeds, but I think that when it's held down (or if it were removed), there might be a reverb type of wind buffeting at certain speeds if all of your windows are rolled up. A relative's new Beetle also does this, and it has no built-in deflector. I doubt that buffeting would happen if you have some windows rolled down.

There you can find 2 pictures of the 2003 CS, wich will use the 3.5L engine from the 300M.

It still looks ltoo much like the minivan it's based on, if you ask me...

You might want to check out with any glass company or body work shop for a list of people who do the dentless repair. I have used them in the past and they are cheap and good, I might avoid these franchise outfits who will nickle and dime you to death. I had a ding taken out of my Intrepid before I turned it in after lease and it cost me $20.00 and I am quite sure you will have the same little guys where you live who will do the same. I asked my guy for some of his cards and I pass them out if I see a nice car with a ding, I will not be paying any more for my repairs.

What the heck is that thing?

Anyway, my dad will be happy to know that there might be a 300M station wagon! He has a history of station wagons, and loves my M...

Keep busy, you need to have all those mods done before Monterey in August. We can't tolerate any botched paint jobs in the convoy or the 300M 17 mile cruise down Highway 1.

You won't need 8 wires for the Infinity, just 4. The sound material is the same of the front and back of the left and right sides, respectively (minus what the crossover in the amp takes out). + and - from the right and left rear speakers is all you will need. The amp already cuts out all of the highs and the upper midrange, so use the high level inputs on the Infinity and the wires going from the amp to the rear deck speakers. Cutting holes in the armrest area in back tachnically will help the bass get into the cabin, but I personally don't think it's worth the effort. Remember shen I said earlier that I had contemplated making an opening in that area on my install? I decided it wasn't worth my time. The area where the seats cover the trunk opening is by no means airtight, neither is the rear deck cover. A couple more holes won't really make any difference. I found out when I had my rear seats and the deck cover out, that there are a lot of open areas in the metal deck support that allow air through. I think this is why my Kenwood 6x9 speakers sounded worse than factory. I believe that the factory speakers are the "free-air" type that are optimized for such installs, and the Kenwoods are the normal "closed box" type that like having the sound waves from the back of the cones prevented from cancelling out the waves from the front of the cones. This is why a normal woofer sounds lousy when it's bare and just sitting on a table vs. when it's in an enclosure. I think the Infinity will definitely be an improvment over stock. The gain and crossover controls on it will be helpful. My amp has them and they make fine tuning the sound easy. This is the amp that I have http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-HheMiW8Hxdh/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=110&I=489400SX&o=&a= It's 300 watts bridged, not 400 like I stated earlier. I must have had another brain cramp! If I have a Cerwin-Vega box made, I will probably add another one of these and run each woofer on it's own amp. One of the reasons that I like and have used Crutchfield is because they give you (for free) all the diagrams and instructions that you need to install your amp/speakers/head unit (they sent me a 9 page diagram showing me how to remove the rear seat, trim pieces, and deck lid. Made it much easier) and also gave me converter cables that adapted my non-standard Chrysler speaker connectors to the standard spade connectors like those found on my new speakers. Another place wanted $30 for those alone. True, you can find better deals on some items by shopping around, but the amp was competitively priced and all the extras made it a no-brainer.

I have one on my 300m. I really do not know if it helped, or not. I put it on when I picked up the car. Never opened the moonroof with out it. Sorry. I can tell there is a little noise, but no wind comes in at all from the open roof unless I have another window open. With the roof open & my rear passanger window down just a little I get a nice breeze. That brings to question....How is one of these suppose to work? Does it cut the wind noise, the wind, or both?
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I have 2 12" kickers facing the deck lid. I used my Radio shack SPL meter, from the drivers seat, & measured if there was any SPL difference with the back seats up, or down. On mine there is no difference in SPL, or sound. The bass sounds the same with the seats up, or down.
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
I like the premium sound system in my '01 M very much, but think there should be more "presence" for 320 watts. Maybe it IS the bass.
I don't understand all the discussion about placement, seat backs up/down etc. with a subwoofer.
Isn't the nature of very low frequencies non-directional?
I was under the impression that it didn't make any difference where you put the sub, as the sound was not directional.
Since my car is leased, and also because I fill the trunk often, I'm going to have a local shop look for an out-of -the -way location for an easily removed subwoofer.
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
I removed mine last year because of the noise. Easy to remove. No problems since.

    Hello all,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have finally updated my site with the new pics from the air suspension install. I apologize because the website is in no way finished, I just wanted to get the pics up there in a hurry so it is very sloppy. I will be fixing this as well as talking all new pics anyway when the new switchbox is done and the chrome air tanks are in place.

That's how it should work, but if the wavelenth the bass has to travel is very short, the less bass you will hear, & feel. That's why subs sound louder in a corner because the bass wavelenth has 3 flat areas to travel along.(2 walls, & floor) So having a sub firing into a seat back, will have alot less bass then a sub with alot of room around it. Although it does depend on the sub/box used, as well as power. I tried to put in 2 12's in a ford that the seats did not fold down, & the truck was sealed from the cabin of the car. Almost no bass at the drivers seat at all.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
Looks good for a show car, but is it streetable? Can I drive it down a HW, twist it around, & tear into it? How does it drive, & handle?
  • dustinnewtondustinnewton Member Posts: 242
Ditto to Fuzzy and I'll add this: bass requires a LOT of air movement, the more the better. While it is non-directional (in terms of stereo imaging), corner loading can enhance the quantity and quality of the bass produced by the sub. You can take one of your home speakers and place it in a corner, crank up something with plentiful bass, then move the speaker into the corner of the room and the level of bass will drop. If it can move the air from the cone into other areas (via a sound wave), it can produce good sound. If the pathway for the sound wave is blocked, even partially, the sound level and quality drops off significantly, thus the need for as clear and open a path as possible. Remember when you were a kid and you put a firecracker in a metal trash can to increase the sound of the boom? Similar principle with corner loading. It concentrates the sound in fewer directions making it richer and sound louder. This is why my sub sits as close to the deck lid as it can, aimed rearwards. The reason that you hook both channels up to a sub(s) is because there might be bass in one channel, but not the other. If you are only feeding the inputs from one side, you might miss some of the musical information, but feeding it from both channels eliminates this problem. Hope that helps explain it a bit. Bass acts funny because the sound waves are so long compared to the midrange and treble.
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
The Infinity Kappa Basslink that has been discussed here might be a good solution for you as well. The enclosure is only 12-1/2 x 14-1/2 x 8-1/2 and can be placed anywhere in the trunk, horizontal or vertical. Mounting consists of just anchoring it somewhere out of the way using the mounting brackets provided.

A couple of us (me included) have just gotten them from EBay (here's one current auction for $199, others are available for $216 Dutch): http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1247793890. Crutchfield gets $399 for this same amp, but, to their credit, provide much more in customer service and installation assistance.

I just installed my Borla cat-back system, which included a K&N Filter. However, the filter that Borla shipped to me doesn't fit--it's about 1" too long and 1" too wide. In checking the K&N website, they list their part # 33-2136 for all model years of the 300M. Does anyone out there know if they've changed the filter size for 2001, or is it your guess that they just shipped the wrong filter? If you have a K&N installed, which part # do you have? Thanks in advance.
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
Cool! What I want to see are pics of your interior, especially the indiglo air pressure gauges...
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
They shipped you the wrong one. I have the 33-2036 in my '01 M
  • mboomgarden1mboomgarden1 Member Posts: 49
sdmide2--Thanks for the quick reply. If the 33-2036 worked in your '01, the K&N website may be wrong--they list the 33-2136. I'm going to measure my stock filter and the K&N that I was sent and follow up with Borla. I appreciate the info.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Sorry...that was an unfortunate typo. I believe I have the 2136. When I got it last month I checked with the K&N book in the local Kragen and confirmed the number on the website. That's what makes me believe the website is correct. Compare it to your stock filter. It should be the same size. Mine was.

Maybe 300Mclub.org should have a list of part numbers applicable to the M. I think we've already identified the numbers for wing badges, K&N air filters, mobil 1 oil filters, bosch platinum +4, etc.. It would be nice to store these somewhere.

    -M
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
The 33-2136 is what I have in my 2000. Did they change the airbox on the 2001?? Maybe a late change?? Otto, any help here??
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I'm pretty sure its the same for all model years...33-2136. I don't think mboom said what Borla actually sent him (the one that didn't fit).

mboom - if the filter is wrong you might want to check the catback system to make sure they sent you the right one of THOSE. :)

I stripped and fixed the splatter then put on two coats of clear coat. Then the wind blow the door open and put a Quater inch square scrap in my new paint job. luckly it just took off the clear coat. So now I will just sand around the spot and add a few coats with an air brush to fix it up tomorrow (I am not touching it any more today. I was going to drill the holes in the hood but with my luck I may endup drilling throug the window glass, I fell like a 5* worker today)

WARNING, those that do not like chrome don't look http://community.webshots.com/user/my300m_ . The site will probably take a few hours to up load the photos. I got these old 300F (I believe) just to hang in my garage filing (I used it to store tools and my extra 300M parts) cabinet. Then it hit me they looked about the same size as the gas filler door on the side of the 300M. If I add some side molding trim (1" chrome) I could make it look like they were always there. The size is just about perfect just a little grinding for the finger hole and two small holes to attach it. I have another one that I could put on the other side if I wanted. It kind of remindes me of the old early 70's Charger gas doors.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Looks really good, but what is with the center front armrest? I must have missed your topic of descussion that explanned with this was. Is that the gauges you were talking about?, or some fancy cup holders ;)
Second, did you check into putting the retractable vidio screen up highter (where the climite control is, and moving the climite control to the bottom? This is what I would like to do, since I do no have the 4CD changer.

I did put in an order for one, since I have already ground my TB down. Will post when I get it, to see if any improvements. So far I have noted about a 2mpg decrease in city driving

Do you mean the 3" tube intake from GR8WHT? If so, the answer is YES! I have mine here in my computer room and I'll put it on today. It is a very, very well made intake! Highest quality parts and looks good too. If it performs as well as it looks it should really be something. I've not noticed a change in my MPG with the TB, but maybe you are on the gas more to "test" it out! You will love the intake!

herrmdogg.. if i had that kinda cash id do it myself! looks awesome man! i gotta see it in person.. where u live at again?

300michael.. IMHO its too colorful for my taste.. i love the idea though, if i found one that was chrome and black id probably do it myself, but, at the same time, to each there own right?

roger.. any news on the intake system? will this affect my warrentee?????

p.s. sorry seems i havent been on everyone but im here, quietly reading each and every post!

Nice emblem, but keep it off the car. Just my opinion. :)
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Yes, I sent the payment to him Monday. How many days did it take you to get yours?

I am putting in a flapper valve in the intake box, made of EDPM rubber. That way when I am driving if the Air Scoop in pulling in air. The air pressure will keep the stock inlet from pulling in air and keeping the box pressureized. When the vehicle is stopped or moving slowly then the valve will open allowing the air to take the easyest path. If snow is blocking the Scoop then the air will enter the box through the stock hole. Snow in Phoenix Ha Ha, but you get my intentions. Or I should say a bird get into the scoop, Yea, that is more like it. After all I will be flying (in my car of course)to Monterey later.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
sure had big emblems. I guess Ottoworker is the only one that would like (to drum up sales) it, right!, otto? I agree it is a very bold emblem, and a lot too much for the car. Maybe if I put "fins on the back, like the old Fury's.;) Sdmike, what if I use them to cover the trunk lock? I would have to hope the struts are strong enough to hold it open if I do, LOL.
I shold have said they were in the intake section, not in the emblems section. (too much in a hurry)
  • exshomanexshoman Member Posts: 109
I removed mine too, for all of a few hours. While it does appear to be marginally quieter at higher speeds, at about 35-40 I experienced a booming resonance. So I put it back on.

It was pretty easy to take off and put back on, so give it a try - you might think it's worthwhile. If you crack a rear window open, the resonance goes away.

The worse sunroof resonance I ever heard was when I took a test drive in a Passat Wagon. At about 40 mph, it was so bad it hurt my ears.

I have been curious about an aftermarket deflector, but I don't particularly like the looks of them.
