How about a pic with the lights on? I'd like to see what "superwhite" looks like
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
Where did you get all your Super-White Bulbs from? I know you used them on just about all the car lights but where can we get them? I've seen things like this on Ebay before but wasn't sure what was what.

Your M looks really great the way it is now. After reading through your list of planned mods, I can see that your M will be more of a "show" than "drive" car. I mean, an aquarium in the back seat? You sure have a lot of work ahead of you. I really love those wheels though, but I just don't think 20's would work for us. Maybe the 18x8.5 size someday if we just go really nuts (yeah right!).

Five or six weeks ago, I posted about the left drift of my M. I had previously taken the car in at about 5000 miles and the dealer said it was a radial pull. He rotated the tires and the problem was eliminated for a while. I later had my car in for an oil change at 5800 miles and I did not rotate the tires because I thought it had already been done by the dealer for the pull problem at 5000 miles. In the meantime, at 6500 miles, I noticed a slight drift creeping back into my drive.

Now, at 7700 miles, I notice that the front tires have worn significantly at the outer edges. I guess the dealer didn't rotate the tires, just swapped left front for right front.

When I get my next oil change at 8500-9000 miles, I will rotate the tires. Who knows, maybe I can nurse 15-16000 miles out of them! And I wonder what will happen with the left pull when they are rotated?

I had to replace 2 goodyears on my 98 Intrepid at 15000 miles -- they said they must have run underinflated to wear that quickly (not true!). MY wifes 98 Avenger had 17" goodyears and a tire blew at 8000 miles -- it separated in many places and you could push your finger through the sidewall in several places -- they said this was common in a blowout. We also found a bubble protruding from the inside of the rear right tire when we first tried to rotate her tires @ 5000 miles -- the goodyear dealer said it had been hit to cause that -- hit on the INSIDE of the tire! I believe it was like that when we bought the car. They said it needed to be replaced and refused any compensation. The Dodge dealer said it was between Goodyear and me (of course!)

This is the last straw -- tires wearing out at 7700 miles -- it is no longer possible to give goodyear the benefit of the doubt. I will never use goodyears again....they fully deserve the reputation they have earned in this forum!

    Just venting...

Questions for those with upgraded audio systems.

1.For those that replaced the factory speakers, did you have to rewire them? What did you do?

2.For those that replaced the factory amp, what did you do?

I want the speakers to replace the original, I am thinking that they need to be rewired. The amp as well.

For anyone interested in the HID bulbs please contact ebay@midnightmoose.com for the high and low beams and xenonempire@aol.com for all other bulbs. I would hold off on buying any interior lights yet because I have been talking to xenonempire because they sent me the wrong bulbs for my map lights, door lights, and glovebox lights. They said that according to their books, they sent me the correct lights and they want me to give them the bulb # for those locations so they can update their books and send me the correct parts. I will place another post when I get the correct bulbs installed to let everyone know it is ok to place your order. I would recommend the high and low beams though, they look really good and I will let you all know when I take an updated pic with the lights ON. =)

SIBE - Sorry, I always leave mine on AUTO, I forgot where the switch was. =)

BEACH15 - My car isn't a "drive" car as it is right now. I have another car I drive when it rains or whatever. I bought it the day before Halloween last year and I just now turned 5000 miles. I only drive it on really nice days or when I take it to shows. =)

Someone posted here a few days ago about replacing their stock speakers so you might want to scroll back 50 posts or so. I seem to remember them commenting that the stock sounded better than what they put in. In my last two cars I replaced the head units with high-end systems, and the stock speakers sounded wonderful with the better units. If you insist on replacing the speakers there shouldn't be any re-wiring if you exchange similar parts. For example, there are two sets of full range speakers, one set in the front doors (6 1/2 inch) and another set in the rear deck (6x9). You can probably just swap them out using the existing wires.

It may not be the tires... yesterday I filed small claims court against my local dealer and daimlerchrsler. My car has 27K miles and is on its third set of tires. They were also feathered and cupped as yours were. It seems that the car has a positive camber reading ( tires riding on outside tread ) all the way around.. The dealer is no help, customer assistance wont help ( too long a story to write ) and I cant even get the name of the local district manager who ( allegedly reviewed my complaint ) and denied assistance to me... according to the customer assistance center. They've all been arrogant and it's pathetic how they treat their customers. Their stock is plumetting, their employees are getting laid off and they deserve what they get.
Ive driven chrysler products since 1981 and although this car is my favorite it's the last one I'll buy. Im buying european or japanese next time.

If anyone has had any luck in getting tires replaced or other satisfaction via lawsuit or arbitration I'd like to hear about it and would appreciate e-mail to dyadinc@aol.com
    Thank you

I haven't sued or gone to arbitration, but I got close. My 2000 300M was unavailable to me for a month because my 5* dealer ruined the paint on the roof while trying to remove scratches during preparation. When I found out they were repainting, I declined to take the car, but I was saddled with it. Chrysler headquarters informed me that the dealer did not need my permission in preparing the vehicle -- he could do whatever he felt necessary to prepare it. They said it was between me and the dealer. The dealer had a signed contract and refused to swap vehicles. Several coats of unmatching paint later, I finally had to take the car once the paint matched, or take them to court. Arbitration wouldn't cover this issue. It wasn't worth the hassle, so I took the car.

I don't know if Chrysler's self-destructive attitude is the industry norm, or if the company just has a death wish. I think the M is a great car, but Chrysler's "take it as it is or leave it" attitude sucks!

As far as the tires go, I got the impression from this forum that the goodyears were a major problem. In fact, Chrysler replaced the goodyears with michelins, starting with the 2001 model. Almost everyone claims that their tire-related problems disappeared once they got rid of the goodyears...and given my tire problems with the Intrepid and the Avenger, I'm betting the goodyears are the problem!

Hello gang! Here is my scoop for today!

Today I went to see my friend who is a manager at one of my local Discount Tire shops to have my tires rotated and balanced. Since I bought my Zen Racing custom wheels from him, there was no charge for this service. I was haveing the famous Badyear tire vibration so I believed that a tire service was needed.

Well guess what......????? Two of my Badyear LS were beginning to seperate! This is with only 8300 miles on them!

The tires will be prorated to replace($20 per tire out of my pocket), but he did not have that tire in stock. So he told me I could have the same tire(no WAY) or choose a differant tire brand if I liked! Here are my options:

    Bridgestone Potenza RE 730 255/50-17 Z rated

    Nitto NT 450 255/50-17 V rated

(With this tire size I would be off 1.1% slower on my speedometer.)

I would have to buy two tires and pay the prorated for the other two. LMK opinions on the tires.

    Hi Guys...

My M is having some MAJOR problems... On the way home from work tonight the Check Engine light went on, and then I realized I was stuck in second gear... No matter what I did it stayed there ... Autostick wouldnt do anything, automatic would start off in second and stay there... This seems like its going to be expensive... glad I bought that extended warranty... Seems like some of you guys were right when you said the M had a lousy transmission!

Greetings 300M fans. tnsc_300m here. aka Mike Edmonds.
I live in Knoxville, TN very near interstate 40 exit 380.
I know Av & Phases are coming into town this weekend.
We're gonna hook up and check out each others cars
and hang out a little while, but not sure exactly when yet.
KPM61, Herrmdogg, or other 300Mer's near
Knoxville and intrested in getting together for an impromptu meet this weekend.
Let me know and we'll see what can be worked out.

This sounds like a good opportunity to have a good
time and check out our 300M's.

FYI, Knoxville is a medium size town, metro pop. of about 230,000 and is where I-75 and I-40 intersect and is about 40 miles from
the Southern end of I-81. Also about 30 mi. to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Great Smoky Mtns. Natl. Park. Plenty to do and lots of great places to eat.

BTW, the Honda Hoot is in town this weekend. This is THE NATL. MEET for Honda motorcycle owners.
The place is teeming with hundreds ( thousands ??) of awesome 2 Wheelers from all over the country.
So if ya like bikes ,as well as 300M's, there'll be lots to check out.

Post here or Email mike_edmonds@hotmail.com if
    intrested.
    Later tnsc_300M.

I had the same problem 7 months after buying my car. I was driving doing about 35, I tried to get on the freeway and the damn thing wouldn't accelerate. I took it to the dealership and they said a sensor had went bad. Took them about 2 hrs to fix.
  • phases78phases78 Member Posts: 471
    dont get more goodyears!!!

you know, i can't say i understand whats going on with everyones dealers being like that. its horrible!! my dealer has givin me absolutley no problems, and done everything i've asked of em no questions asked.. i had em put in a new battery for me cuz mine was a demo, after i got it (or before, im not sure, which i told them) a chip in the paint on a door molding appeared, they ordered and installed a new one for me...same situation with the inside trunk release.. plus a couple other little issues...

is it just my dealer thats actually 5* ??

    -----------------------------------------------
email me man i dont know when to leave tomorrow! im gonna have to call you i think....
  • ajpiiiajpiii Member Posts: 260
Thanks Man... I was getting worried... sounds like that could be it... The car was shifting fine this morning then all of a sudden, Whamo ! stuck in second... Im going to try a new 5* for this fix, the one I bought the car from is a 0.29737746 *
  • ajpiiiajpiii Member Posts: 260
I got the Bridgestone Potenza RE730s on my M... they kick butt... a little more road noise though... I had the badyears, and they pulled to the left... put on some Bridgestones and it went away... Plus they look cool...
  • ajpiiiajpiii Member Posts: 260
    Fuzzy...

How much did those rotors go for ? Did they help braking over stock at all ? How about the longer life claim ? Im about to need a brake job and figure why not get something that will outperform the OEM stuff...
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
My 300M had this twice. Both times due to a malfunctioning engine speed sensor that had to be replaced.

Staying in the 2nd is also known as a "limp home mode".
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
Glad you like the shirts. I'm very pleased with how they turned out. All paid orders have now been mailed. Now I can reclaim my dining room (previously designated "shirt central"). I now know all the folks at my local USPS on a first name basis.

Basecall caps can't be far behind. Maybe patches too. Stay tuned for more offerings from the 300M Enthusiasts Club Apparel Boutique.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Gil - Go with the Bridgestones. I think Nittos are a well kept secret, but you can't beat getting a set of Potenza 730s for $20 each!

Roger - Beshi has some nice jackets, hats, canvas beer totes, and other stuff that is begging for a logo. I also think I saw boxers in there. lol
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I have three 5*s and 5* wannabe within 20 minutes of me and they've all been great so far. Maybe you and I have just been lucky. It's also nice to have some options. :)

For those that missed it before, here are a couple of links that might be useful to you. One is an oil filter study that blasts Fram and other cheap paper filters, and the other is a tire size comparison calculator. Thanks to those the posted these previously.

Hey, where did you get those Bridgestones from?
    Did you say 20?
  • ajpiiiajpiii Member Posts: 260
Do you guys think that the fact I switched to 245/45-17 tires could have made the engine speed sensor malfunction ? its more than a 3% difference in tire size... Hmmmmmm
  • traleytraley Member Posts: 64
I don't know about everyone else, but when my sensor when bad, I had stock tires on. Still do for that matter.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
The tire size had nothing to do with it.

Mine also did this, but it was stuck in 2nd for a few hours. Did it on my way to work one morning, I left it in the parking lot, for the day, & after work I started it, & it was fine drove to the dealer. The dealer said it was a bad input/output speed sensor. Replaced, & all is good. Don't think tire size is a problem. I was running 245-45-17's for a while, then I switched back to stock, then I went to 18's. It did it with the stock size on.

The rotors are better then stock with stock pads. But are even better with nice hard metalic pads. I choose to switch the pads back to stock because of the squeals of the harder pads. But with the stock pads there is less fade, & the pads grab better in the wet weather. I think I paid like close to $400 for all 4 rotors with pads. I installed them my self so no labor.

he said naively, emboldened by the success of the recent 300M Enthusiasts Club shirt venture. Send me pics, send me samples, send me prices! I'm definitely in for the caps and the boxers. Anyone else interested in any of the items mentioned (post #4879)? Any other ideas without getting crazy?

Also, any embroidered items for the ladies? We're getting more and more female members, and we need to keep them in mind too.

It can now be told, I held off until the "happy ending" was real. A woman at work has a 2000 M. She had the shimmies and shakes and pulls from day 1. In 7000 miles, Goodyear replaced her tires TWICE. She is no shrinking violet as you can imagine. The car still wasn't right. She raised all kinds of stink with everyone in earshot and Goodyear bought her a set of Michelins! The car is fine now. No out of pocket expenses for her, just the aggravation.

The headlights and side marker lights can only be ordered from Europe. The headlights are listed as being projector type (like the LHS) as for being HID, my friends in Europe tell me that it is not, just regular halogen bulbs. They are expensive About $475 each. I believe Rogor2K is sold out of the side marker lights.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
There are HID (High Intensity Discharge) bulbs. There are Xenon/Halogen bulbs, and regular Halogen bulbs. I have tested a few of these Xenon type bulbs and noticed that they are not any brighter then the standard Halogen When Measured from the side with no len (stand alone). The only thing that is really different is the lenght of the filiment to the base of the bulbs. Which changes the light pattern the lamps put out. It is the same thing that happens when you have a Maglight and turn the lens base to adjust the focus of the light. The xenon's have a longer filiment to base measurement (about 1/16") which makes them more like a spot light. whereas the standard halogens being shorter give a more flood light pattern. If you measure the light at the brightest spots on both the xenon's are brighter (thats why they give the higher ratings) but the overall light pattern is less.
So if you want general lighting keep the standard halogens. If you want a brighter hot spot then go with the xenons. I used a light meter, and a Intrepid headlight assembly to do the testing at 50' and at 200'. The lamps were hooked up to a deep cycle battery that was hooked up to my car battery (car running) while testing was done to give a constant voltage. I used a local Target parking lot to do the testing.
I am keeping regular halogen in the lo beams and may use xenon's in the Hi beams later.
  • kpm61kpm61 Member Posts: 35
So you tried the HID aftermarket headlight upgrades in an Intrepid and found that the light pattern to be focused in a more "spotlihgt" like pattern ?
Was the side illumination also accaptable ?

If I understand correctly this was useing the stock reflectors.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I'll take my digital camera into Beshi and see what I can find. :) If you have something in mind other than what they normally have they can always order it, or just embroider it if we provide the items. I'll see if Beshi makes their own sweatshirts too. If so, we should be able to get them real cheap. You can't go wrong with sweatshirts (although it being 90+ here today it doesn't sound good right now) ;)

my drivers seat is showing some wear signs---like stretch marks especially on the outside edge of the lower part of the seat---my M is 14 months old with 19k on the dial---anyone else noticing this --

Rogor--nice black low profile (not high profile) caps would be nice--with a simple logo---maybe just the badge logo with or without the checker pattern--are we allowed to use that logo per Chrylser agreement?--how about temporary tattoos saying "I love my M" with an arrow going through the badge logo---
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
the bulbs I tested were xenon and halogen types. HID systems were too expensive to test.
