Has anyone out there ever seen "stick on" rubber protection for the top part of a rear bumper much like you would see on an Explorer or Tahoe? If so where should I look? I am in an out of the back of my Axiom all day and I would like to keep the top of the bumper from getting scratched.
Went to the dealer to order the air spoiler from the 03 for my 02. Was told that it is $220 un-painted, but you will need to repalce the rear door and hinges and the pistons for a grand cost of $1300. Needless to say, if this is true there will be no spoiler on my 02. Anyone know any better?
Go here and take a look. I don't know how this compares to the new factory spoiler. It may even be the same company where Isuzu gets them from considering the short supply of aftermarket parts for our Axioms.
After about a week of using remote start,it started failing, will attempt 3 times and nothing.Talked to salesman and dealer they claim its not their responibility.Visited couple of viper dealers who as dealer claims installed the alarm system includuing remote winter start. They checked it worked but,it only works when engine is warm.Is it possible that we messed settings on the remote controller? On the sticker it saiz that winter start is a standard equipment so I think dealer is responsible and its covered by warranty all they say they can do is disconnect it?
There was a TSB about this 98-00 Troopers w/3.5l couldn't get remote start due to some electronic incompatibilities, starting in '01 it wasn't a problem.
Northern Virginia got two feet of snow this weekend and I had an opportunity to test the Axiom in some decent snow conditions. The Axiom handled everything well. I feel a simple change in the tires and the Axiom would be great in winter conditions.
A big change in tires is needed, not a simple change!! Living in Buffalo, NY I get the opportunity to experience the snowtraction. If you enjoy feeling like you are driving on Ball Bearings these tires are great. I am not ready to ditch them as I have only 2000 miles on them but by next winter they will be gone. TOD works fine and ABS works great in snow, tires, not so good.
I feel the same way about my Axiom. I live in Delaware and we also got about two feet of the white stuff yesterday. It would really be awesome in the snow if it weren't for the (p.o.s.) tires. I still can't figure out why Isuzu would put such cheap, horrible tires on their new $31,000 suv. I have 6,500 miles on my tires and will definitely be changing them before next winter.
Yep the Axiom tires are straight street tires. This gives it a better ride. I have Pirellis Scorpion ATs on my Trooper and it's amazing how the TOD just grips and goes in even 30" of snow + snowbanks 3'+ created by snow plows!
Get some good AT tires on your Axioms and you'll not regret it.
Hi all, I'm looking to trade in my current vehicle within the next month or so, and I wanted to see what all the Axiom has to offer. They appear hard to find a used one, I can't afford new. Any problems of note? TSBs? Any info will be appreciated. I had been looking around, and I completely forgot about the Axiom. I really, REALLY like the style of it. I am dissappointed in the fact that the Isuzu 10/120 warranty isn't transferrable, as I thought it was. Now I'm not as interested in the Isuzus as I was, they are just like any other vehicle. But, I still like the Axiom and the Rodeo.
Spoke with Calmini about upgrades for the 2002 Axiom. Thought the vechicle was Rodeo Frame and Trooper drive train, suspension and engine. They inform me that it is mostly Rodeo and the only thing they have for it are a kit for raising it and an air filter kit. No other suspension components. No bushings etc. Anyone know where else to go or a swap parts list?
Spoke w/Mark. We can get a new rear spring and some rancho shocks but otherwise there has been nothing much available. With 2000 miles on the Axiom I don't know wheather throwing out my shocks and springs makes sense yet?
My shocks (Rancho 9000s) came on Tuesday, should get my OME springs today or early next week. Hoping to get the lift installed by end of Feb. I'll take pictures before and after.
One part of the shock swap that I do not have info on is the ISC disable. How do I keep the computer from seeing a fault from the wiring harness? Anyone have a schematic?
Dear Editor, Your reviews of the Isuzu Axiom and Rodeo are horrendous. "The Axiom is little more than a rehashed Rodeo wearing nice duds and a Halloween mask for effect." "Pick the Rodeo only if you have a soft spot in your heart for Isuzu." First of all, the Axiom's interior is much more luxurious and has more features than a Rodeo. The interior feels and is roomier. The engine is from the Trooper, not the Rodeo. Why don't you mention similar "Halloween mask" comments on vehicles such as the Toyota Highlander and Lexus RX300. The RX300 is more luxurious but it is nearly identical to the Highlander and it evens looks a lot more similar than the Rodeo and Axiom. There are plenty of reasons to buy a Rodeo. Exclusitivity, off-road ability, sporty styling, and a roomy interior are a few. It may be a wee bit outdated, but so is the similar Pathfinder and neither has a redesign in sight. Personally I prefer the Explorer, Axiom, and 4Runner, but to say only Isuzu lovers should buy it is horrible. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves.
Thank you for sharing that with us. I'll only say "to each his own" but will point out that Edmunds.com is not alone. You left out the part about "Even Honda finally got rid of its version of the Rodeo this year."
Tidester Host - I agree with Libertycat. The review is more emotional than factual and made outrageous remarks about the vehicle that are not shared or experienced by any of the owners. Examples are remarks about braking and about the storage of the spare tire.
I laugh about the spare tire thing every time I hear it...how many other suv's have visible spare tires under the rear of the vehicle...quite a few...and the braking comment is pretty outrageous too...the only thing I can conclude is that either there was some bias among car reviewers...or some of the earlier 'tested' vehicles has some issues...
I'll get a write up out this week sometime. Hardest part of the lift was bolting the top of the rear shocks into place. Getting the springs in and out was 2nd on the list.
Right now I have the Ranchos set to 2 in the front and 3 in the rear and it seems to ride like the sport setting. Great around town but on the Los Angeles freeways it may be a bit too hard.
A disconnected sensor may be seen as a fault. Therefore, unplugging the sensors may not turn off the light, you may have to disconnect the lamp or remove the bulb.
We got about a foot of snow here in Chicago last night. That gave me an opportunity to put my Ax through some tests. Despite mediocre tires I am happy to report that the Ax was a blast to drive in deep snow! Both TOD and low 4X4 provided sufficient traction in every situation. If I were to choose one setting to go through really deep snow, I think I would prefer low 4X4. It seemed to go forward with greater authority in this setting. When I put the switch in 2H position, I could barely move forward with some serious fish-tailing. I was very impressed with the Winter Mode. In 2H and Winter Mode engaged, I was able to move forward without wheels spinning and fish-tailing. If you use Winter Mode in 4x4 setting, it's almost like moving on dry pavement.
Your experience mirrors mine over the two winters that I have had the Axiom, with the Integrity tires. I have yet to find a situation where I didn't have confidence that the Axion would be able to maintain traction. Next winter I'll have better tires and even better performance in snow. I, too, use low range but primarily to maintain slow speeds on steep, icy downhills. It works like a charm, specially since you can still use the transmission to change gears to adjust your speed if necessary. On most other occassions TOD does just fine.
The lift came with 2 front shocks, 2 rear shocks, 2 rear springs (oem 912), all mounting hardware (bolts, etc), a brake line re-adjustment do-hicky, and 2 lower bump stops. The bump stops were not used as our bump stops are very different than the Rodeo I guess. I cut the rear bump stops down but left the front as is.
Enjoy! I am. The new shocks really do even out the ride even more than the airshock kit from truckspring. Anyone want a used airshock kit?
Pictures of the lift are at the link below. The bro and I enjoyed tearing the Axiom apart! Good thing it was in his driveway.
One thing I didn't mention was the use of a spring compressor was necessary for the lift. The gas tank was in the way when we tried to lower the axle down far enough to push the new springs in.
One other tid bit. The bolts on the top of the rear shock is a ball buster to tighten. 1/8 of a turn at a time holding the flat section above the nut at the same time.
The lift really gives your truck a nice look. Combined with the TOD, you should be in great shape. What other modifications, if any, have you considered?
Larger tires and possibly different rims when my wife's back is turned! Looking at the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 265/70 17s. $123/tire at tire rack. Just Tires said they'd match the per tire cost plus the shipping charges.
Over on the Vehicross VMag forum superchargers are $2,800 and will fit our engines. How does close to 300 horses sound?
Also a PowerVault catback exhaust system is available for around $360.
Locker for the rear. I haven't decided between a locker or something like power trax. Still being reseached.
In the most likely order, my next mods will be the tires, then the exhaust, then the rear diff. The SC will have to wait!
I have a 2wd as I'm in Los Angeles. I wish I'd picked up a 4x4, still trying to convince the wife that we need 2. Her lease is up in January, I'm pushing for another Isuzu!
It pays to shop around. I got my dueler A/T's at a firestone place for a similar deal...they matched what it would cost me if I were to have them shipped from tirerack and installed there per tire. It worked out to about $105 per tire (including mount and balance) + tax. However I wouldn't go back to that firestone place because the couldn't balance the tires...but it still does pay to shop around...I just should have shopped a little more :-).

Your dealer is solely responsible for that option.
"Winter Start" on the sticker is refering to the transmission being able to start in 3rd gear rather than 1st so that you don't slip your wheels.

The Axiom has excellent reliability because it's basically a Rodeo frame + Trooper drivetrain. Both of which have been around for at least 5 years.

He can get you rodeo stuff which will work on the axiom.

Still trying to get a link up to the write up and pictures.

Amazing!! How badly is the axiom selling?
