    Neat videos, Mike

Hey, are all the numbers on the screen accurate? That's the speed in the top left and g-forces, lateral and acceleration/braking? Once of the videos the car is pulling .95gs in the turn. Cool.

Another stupid question, isn't running off the track hard on the tires and suspension? Just curious. I would love to get involved if I had more time!

Yup those are real #s they used a GPS for the speed and something else for the Gs. Car does very well considering it's HP etc. The yellow honda is a good friend, he's got a RS swapped with a WRX.

Can't wait til Oct 30 at Limerock to do my 2nd race. I was a bit off course hitting those holes, but as a rookie you need to have 8 races incident free so it's better to go a little off course than to tap another car. As one of my track instructs says... if you have to use the grass, use the grass. :)

I finished 12th out of 18 starting in 15th spot. I can't wait til there is a rain race! Then we'll be talking.

In the next year I'm planning on trying to get a race series similar to the Honda Challenge for AWD only cars. Probably will start contacting manufacturers this winter to see if we can get some support from them. Looking to include: Caddys, Audis, Mitsubishis, Mazdas, Subies, etc. The big thing is no one will let AWD cars run (except in the very high classes like unlimited or GT) so for the average AWD fan you can't run in a real classification. This would be a whole race series dedicated to AWD. :)

Just got back from Watkins Glen, had a ball there instructing and running the L for 40min sessions back to back, did about 4-5hrs of track time each day on Monday and Tues this week. Didn't even burn a drop of oil.

sustained .95g cornering isn't at all weird for a prepped car running R tires. instanteous g force would be higher still especially during max effort braking.

    born: Sept. 29, 2004 05:59 p.m.
    weight: 7 lbs, 15.3 oz.

We got to the hospital and Q was already 8cm. No time for any drugs at all, not even for the episiotomy. Labor lasted 3 hours. we're finally home, but I don't think I'll be keeping up too well on the boards the next week or so!!!

    Loosh,

Congratulations to you and your family! Welcome to daddyhood! It's an amazing feeling, isn't it?

Q's lucky her labor was only 3 hours long! And what a cute baby to boot!

    Ken

P.S. You'll get used to the sleep deprivation. :-D

it's "eelee" as opposed to "elly." Last night was rough. Wouldn't take the breast in any meaningful way. We've started pumping bottles and, although disappointing to Q that she isn't nursing, is far better than malnutrition or formula. We are hoping Elie will get the hang of nursing. Because of here tenuous condition post partum, she was getting a little Formula. The new "fad" in nursuries is to cup feed the stuff, to avoid something they call "nipple confusion." To me, it teaches the baby she doesn't need to suckle to get food, so she got lazy on that cup and won't pull hard enough on the breast to get anything. *sigh* It's been a long night and a steep learning curve, but the compromise we have arrived at is pretty good so far, and we're hopeful the bottle will re-train her to take to breasts again soon.

Not to mention the cost savings too!

Hang in there Lucien and Q (and Elie). The first child seems to be the toughest one to start. She'll catch on.

Hopefully you all can get some rest tonight as well.

    Loosh,

Don't worry. Latching is a learned behavior. She'll get the hang of it.

Stay with breast milk as long as possible. All research points to advantages over forumla.

Parenthood is an incredible experience, enjoy it, even the less than great parts! The breastfeeding thing can be difficult, but I second the above opinions. Try to stick to it, Elie will learn, and so will Q. I can't see the picture for some reason, but the consensus seems to be that she's beautiful. Way to go, Dad!

    Congratulations! Elie is gorgeous!

The first few days of breastfeeding are always the toughest. If you haven't already, ask your OB/GYN or pediatrician to be referred to a lactation expert. There should be one on staff at the hospital. Also, check to see if there is a La Leche League chapter in your area, which most likely has a mentoring program. Currently nursing mom(s) will visit and/or are available to call for help and support.

    Congrats!

That came earlier than I expected. Gotta read back and see who won the pool.

Note her symmetrical position, not leaning to the left or right, but instead lying her head longitudinally.

Already she has great instincts; understands that symmetry is key. :o)

PS Tell Q to be patient, nursing it tough! Also let's be thankful the baby looks like her mom! :p

Nursing seems to up to speed, after using the bottle a bit to get her to learn. Thanks again for all your encouraging words and support. We're pooped!

    50/50? hey i wish i did only 75%

also i do 100% of the driving and she does 100% of the shotgun. think you have to revisit your marriage math.

marriage is more like a great awd system with power going to the tires that grip. sometimes front, sometimes just one wheel.

sometimes marriage is like juice going into a turn at over 100mph, can u grunt?

Jim, he could be a human "pacifier." ;)

Oh man, this discussion is getting too weird...

    Poor Loosh. It gets better!

I would sometimes pacify the lil' bears with my pinky finger, usually between feedings if they awoke with their 'hunger' cry. You want to have the fingernail side down so they don't scratch the roof of their mouth.

    Loosh,

I highly recommend this book/video on helping your baby stop crying by making her feel more comfortable in her new surroundings:

Well as long as bottles and pumps were needed, Loosh was needed to run up and down the stairs with all the acoutrements, as well as clean the stuff and store the milk. So it was a 50/50 endeavor in that sense....I mean in terms of sleep time etc. Looks like I'm off the hook tonight (knock on wood) since she doesn't need a bottle to get going.

i like swampy's analogy a lot. That would play well in the "Oh no3s teh g1rlfr31nd is t3h borked! She wants a ring and marriage will end my life!!!one!1!eleven!" threads over on Nabisco. I guess there's a lot more bullcrap in male/female relationships in the 18-24 crowd than we had. I can't believe some of the attitudes over there about relationships...1st hand expressions from the males or reported expressions from the girlz.

Loosh is telling Elie how to shift properly on the F-XT ;-)

    -Brian
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
"ease the clutch out, combined with fairly aggressive yet fluid throttle input to launch in 1st. Don't bother with redline, she's out of shove by 6k, but it's an eternity going to second with that big gap there. Very smooth but aggressive transition between clutch and gas again since the car gets fussy on the 1-2 shift. Then just bury it and hold on!"

Yeah, we're learning that the terrible twos don't really mean it starts at the two year mark and ends a year later.

    But it's so worth it!
