Purchased a 2010 Santa Fe SE yesterday and the finance guy was trying to get me to purchase an extended warranty contract. I asked why would I need that if the powertrain is 10 yrs-100,000 mi and the basic warranty is 5yr-60,000 mi. He said it was due to computer chips etc etc... Did any of you purchase an extended warranty? One of the reasons I purchased the Hyundai was due to the advertisted warranty...AKA America's Best Warranty. :confuse:
  • fushigifushigi Member Posts: 1,459
Sometimes I buy the warranty, sometimes I don't. It depends on the product, the risk I'm willing to tolerate, and with some purchases my mood. On cars I've seen and personally experienced blown transmissions in the 65-80K mile range so having powertrain coverage for 10/100 is a requirement for me and the Hyundai warranty satisfies that need.

What you'll see people here suggest is the following: Take the cost of the warranty and set it aside in a savings or investment account. After the factory warranty expires, you'll have a tidy nest egg to use for repairs and if no repairs are needed, you'll have a larger down payment than you might have otherwise.

    Two BTWs:
    1. You don't have to buy the warranty at the time you buy the vehicle. You should have at least a year and possibly up until the time the factory warranty expires before your option for an extended warranty runs out.
    2. Assuming you're financing your Santa Fe, if you don't buy the extended warranty you also aren't financing it and aren't paying interest on that financing so you save a little more money.

Thanks for the info. I asked about buying the warranty later and the finance manager said I couldn't. He probably just wanted to make the sell. It would have been added to my loan so I would have been paying interest for it. I like the idea of setting the money aside. Makes a lot of sense. :surprise:

I got it for 28,900 that is including TT&L. Tax here is at 9%. I may have over paid a little but I love the car. I travel a lot for work and really like how it rides and makes my trips much more comfortable.

I drive around 70-78mph on highways so I do not get the best mileage (22-23) but I can live with it.
  • purplehaze86purplehaze86 Member Posts: 4
I bought the extended warranty to cover everything for the 10/100,00 only because he said if between the 60k-100k I do not use the extended warranty I will get a full money refund on the payments I made on the extended.

I've been shopping for a new small and affordable SUV for over a month. I looked at the Nissan Rogue SL, RAV4, CR-V and the Forester. I never considered the Santa Fe...in fact, I would have never considered a Hyundai. Well, I was heading back to the Nissan dealer after looking at the CR-V (and being disappointed) to purchase the Rogue. On the way, I stopped at a local Hyundai dealer. It is a very small store, kinda hidden. The lot immediately in front of the showroom is very cluttered with new Hyundai and used cars. First, I was very impressed by the low pressure and laid-back sales attitude and the straight forward demeanor of both the salesperson who approached me and the sales manager. I looked at a Santa Fe in the showroom and was very surprised and immediately impressed. It was not at all what I expected. For some reason, I thought the car would be built like garbage with awful fit and finish. I was very wrong. I decided that I would purchase one. I found on the lot an AWD 2010 GLS (Pacific Blue Pearl) with the GLS Premium Package (Navigation, Sunroof, etc.), Carpeted Floor Mats, Cargo Net and First Aid Kit. MSRP was $29,140. I purchased the car for $24,757; which is $26,257 less the $1,500 rebate since I financed through Hyundai. The price included freight, but not TTL. Does this sound like a pretty decent deal? So far, I'm happy with my new Santa Fe.

I think I did a lot of the same searching you did and found nothing that impressed me. I had found a 2009 demo, which is very close to the 2010, but at a super price. I looked, but left, and still went off looking at other cars and when nothing felt right, I went back and drove the SF again and realized it was the best of them all and made the deal within an hour.

Being an '09 with 6500 miles got me an even better deal, in my mind, and it's an LTD, without Nav, which i didn't want anyway.

I've done some long range driving and the usual aches and pains i've had in the past simply never appeared, it was fun to drive, had ample power and just was all around enjoyable. I especially love the integrated IPOD connection. The salesman even got me a free cable.

I'm sure you'll be happy with your selection and you should get many years of good service from it. My wife as an '04 SF and she's had very few things wrong with hers, mostly just routine maintanence.

I've yet to talk to anyone with an SF who doesn't like their car. ! If you're like me and keep your cars a long time, I hope you got their extended warranty. the 10/100k bumper to bumper is the best anywhere.

Good luck and enjoy your new car!

I have the same issue with my Santa Fe, It happens with both retail compact disk and also with burned disks. On one of my monthly visits to the dealer for electrical problems. I asked about it skipping and if that is normal with CD's, I was educated that CD's are not perfectly round and balanced and that is why it skips, and its normal and happens on almost all new cars.......... Yeah !! I don't beleave them because out of all the cars I have owned over the last 38 years I have only had one that ever skipped, it was cheapest CD player I could buy for 20 bucks.

Buying tomorrow a 2010 Santa Fe Limited AWD for 26000 + TTL in Indiana. It is coming with mud flaps, carpeted floor mats, and cargo net (about $250 MSRP). You guys think it is a good deal?
  • rocdredrocdred Member Posts: 17
Hi.. I'd 100% recommend buying a SF.. I have a 2009 which is almost identical to the 2010 and love it.. It's a great car. But the price will go up in financing as they add stuff on.. I ended up getting the 10 year/100k upgrade as i tend to keep cars a long time.

The only issue seems to me the price is high. It's close to list price and it's almost July and the new models are coming soon. So, they want to unload existing inventory.

I'd check Autotrader and Cars.com and see what they're selling for in your area, and my car was a demo, which made it a better price, but a demo is legally a new car.. It had 6500 miles, which is nothing.. My car listed for about 30k and i paid $21 so you can see how much it dropped being a demo.

I found the demo on their lot and the salespeople kept trying to lead me away to other cars..:) Must have been a reason. but it was an acceptable color, which now I really like, it was a Limited with everything but bluetooth and Nav, neither of which i wanted anyway, so it all worked out for me.

Shop and see what deals are out there, but the bottom line is buying a Santa Fe will be a good move for you.!

My I ask where you live?? I'm about to make a purchase of the exact model and options and the best I could do after the $1500 was $ 25,600 + TT&L. I'm in Bucks County, Northeastern PA.
    Thanks

Hi.. I'm in Fairfax, VA not far from DC..

Are you looking at an '09 or '10? That will add a few thousand to the price.

I got an '09.. Maybe thats the difference. But see what they have in demo units.. A demo, combined with Hyundai's extended warranty is a great deal.

I know there was some rebate in there, but i don't recall what it was for.

Apparently I got a good deal.. I saw a few on autotrader around $22k in your area, but they were low mile used. Always worry about those! Unless it's a CPO..

Here's the search I did..: (very long, you might have to cut and paste)

good luck and hope you find a good deal.. :) I've been happy with my SF so far..

    Hi RocD,
    I appreciate your response. I was comparing '09 with a '10. I think that was a pretty good price for a "10.
I did find an '09 limited w/o nav. with 3500 mi. They were asking $25K. I'm going to work them till I get the right price. We have a Genesis that we bought from this dealer, so I'm sure I can get him to $21K. I'll keep you posted.

I think i got pretty lucky on the SF I got.. It also had been sitting there for a year, so they really wanted it moved. I found paperwork in the center console that showed it arrived and dealer prep stuff from April 2009. I got it in March 2010, so it was sitting there costing them floor plan money for a year..

Nothing wrong with low mileage cars if you have the complete extended warranty. I worry about why someone would trade in a car that's practically new.

Do a CPO or a demo and you should get the best deal. ! Don't forget Hyundai has a return customer rebate of $1500 i think.

Did you make the deal for the 2010 SF Limited AWD @ $26K? I'm look to make the same deal as soon as I find the right color. I'm in the Phila. area. Thanks!

Yes, it is a 2010 Santa Fe Limited AWD without any packages (the dealership threw in carpeted floor mats, mud guards, and cargo net) for $26,000 + Tax,title etc. Bought it on 24th. Already put 760 miles on it!

If you finance at least $5000 from Hyundai, you get $500. The interest rates weren't good though. They have two options: 5 years at 3.9% APR (i took this) and 7 years at 4.9% APR.

Just to let you know, the leather interior is making creaking noises over even small bumps. You don't hear it if you turn on the music. Never owned a leather-seat vehicle before so wouldn't know if it happens in other cars too.

If you don't want leather seats, you can choose SE AWD with navigation package (total MSRP comes to about the same). You won't get Dual-Zone Automatic temperature control and some other cosmetic improvements in SE though.

That is a great deal you got! I'm assuming your SF was out of the dealer's inventory.
My problem is the dealer I leased our Genesis from does not have our color, and there is only one in the area.....so he's at $27K + TTL. I guess I have to work him harder! Thanks for the leather heads up...but I have a new Jaguar XF and the leather was making noise also...so the dealer used some sort of leather dressing on it and the leather is now quiet!
  • dealovedealove Member Posts: 6
I did get a "recent grad" (Dec, 2009) $400 discount. $26K is after that discount. So we are looking at $26,400. Could you tell me what kind of dressing it was so I can tell my dealer to do the same? I am also getting noise when the seat belt buckles get in touch with a small metal restrainer on the seat belt (to prevent unwanted sliding of the buckle) over bumps. So I buckled all the belts in my car and that took care of part of noise.

I don't know if I am being a stickler here but I drove a 1996 camry before I sold it 2 weeks ago. Never had any sound coming off belts or cloth seats (14 year old car!). Just two sounds when the tires hit the bump.

I took the Santa Fe to the dealer and unfortunately roads around dealership did not have many bumps! They gave me a cloth interior Santa Fe to drive so I could compare. The cloth one was relatively silent.

    Hope that helps!

Paid 22233 on the road - taxes ttl all part of that price. How did we do in MD?
  • dad2bedad2be Member Posts: 60
I'm in PA and price shopping this same vehicle for my father. With 6% MD sales tax and estimating $400 in total doc and licensing fees, looks like you paid around $20600 for the vehicle? I've seen this same model (base GLS FWD with just floor mats as an option) on fitzmall for $19999 (+TTL.) I checked this price against several local dealers and they quickly said they would match it. Now I have to see how far below this number they will go. It is the last days of the month, though, so that is likely contributing to the willingness to deal.
  • swiss4lifeswiss4life Member Posts: 1
Just bought the car last night here in Raleigh, NC. MSRP was 30,515. We purchased for $24,696 + TTL which came to $26k out the door.

FYI the Santa Fe GLS is on special everywhere to match the price of the Tucson since there are few Tucson's on the lot. Also, the 2011 Santa Fe isn't coming out until August September. They are also mocing the plant for the Santa Fe from Alabama to Georiga, so there will be a stoppage of production of the Santa Fe starting very soon, which means supply will go down and prices will be harder to negotiate.

    2010 GLS Santa Fe

    $23,260 with T,T,T---OTD (FL)

I used Turecar.com and found the best price for the car in my zip code. I took the price to my local Hyundai dealer who matched the price.
  • mn778mn778 Member Posts: 46
Bought a '10 Santa Fe Limited AWD...with carpeted floor mats and a cargo net....no Nav. for $26,4500 + TTL. The negotiation took 10 minutes over the phone! I have a Genisis coming off lease at the end of Aug. so they included my last two months rent on the Genisis which was $1200 additional money, so it actually came to less than $25,250 for the Santa Fe. Thanks to this site, I had all the pricing info I needed to make a great deal.

Live in Reston, VA / DC area. Looking at a 2010 SE AWD for $28,865 MSRP. With being a member of Costco, incentive, and $1,500 for my truck, they are offering $24,665. This was 15% off or so without negotiating. Black color.

I think I can come down more, but not sure how much.

Any suggestions of a goal? Mine was $24,500, but it seems I can beat it.

I think you can do better. I have an '08 SE AWD which stickered for almost the same exact price as yours, two years ago. I paid $24,199 with no trade. Have you checked Fitzmall?
  • smetzlersmetzler Member Posts: 23
Thanks. I got it down to $23,300 excluding, taxes, titles, etc. which takes it to around $24,500 ish. I think that will be acceptable.

I just bought a 2010 limited AWD with navigation package. for 28,700. I got one dealer down to 29,200 and then took that price quote to another dealer who beat it by 500$. This was bought in the Buffalo area of NY.
  • shivelytshivelyt Member Posts: 46
I am interested in buying a 2010 SantaFe LTD, 5 cyl. No navigation, just floor mats. Edmunds shows total sticker price, incl freight of $29,515 and prices paid of about 26,800. I need to do better-- 25,000 or below excluding any tax or title charges or any mickey mouse fees. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Dealers in Las Vegas keep no inventory. They operate like a Sears catalog store. Willing togo out of area to buy. Thnks for any inf.
  • denvertrakkerdenvertrakker Member Posts: 132
How far out of area are you willing to go? Denver? If so, try Arapahoe Hyundai in Centennial, a Denver suburb. I bought mine there, and no one could come close to their pricing. They also have massive inventory - where other area dealers had maybe a car or two with my requirements, they had dozens!
  • andimissandimiss Member Posts: 4
I was offered a 2010 Santa Fe Limited FWD, w/ no navigation, all leather instead of leather trim, for $26,000 after the $1,500 rebate. Is that a good deal?
  • rocdredrocdred Member Posts: 17
The key is if you can't find a better deal where you live. Prices will range some depending on the area, demand and inventory.

I don't think it's a bad price, but is probably an average price. But, Hyundai knows this car is a demand car and sells well, so they won't likely cut the price a lot.

You can always call their bluff and go in and tell them you can't exceed $25k and you'll buy it immediately, and see what they tell you. If they won't budge, then you have your answer. If they can lower the price $1000 to make a sale, you'd likely get it.

On the other hand, today's the end of the month and incentives to move cars goes down a little as Aug starts.

The only thing I can tell you is I love my 2009 limited with all leather. My wife has a 2004 SF and hers has been very reliable with a 40mile a day commute.

Good luck and enjoy your new SF!!

    :)
  • andimissandimiss Member Posts: 4
Thanks for the help. I'm in Houston and the demand is pretty high; they only had 1 Limited on the lot and it's a demo. The car has to come from Austin or Dallas. I just might call their bluff, especially since I just drove a Mazda CX9 and there is no comparison. :(
  • derwoodtderwoodt Member Posts: 2
$25K incl TTL. But deducted the $175 for etching the glass while in financing. I'm sure we could have beat it down more but honestly we like the car so much it was hard to be ruthless. Thanks to all previous posters who helped us out by sharing. Good luck and happy trails to all.

Hi Paul, I dont know if you have already bought your vehicle. If you have not, then I would like to relate my experience. I was in the same situation as you. I decided on the new 2010, only because the engine is far superior to the 2009 and gives far better MPG. It also has a 6 speed trans. which makes the mpg better. ALSO, if the 2009 is not broken in well, you might have a few engine problems down the road. I gained this info from a lot of research and talking to a few dealers. I have got 3500KMS on my new vehicle and just got back from Myrtle beach and I live in Ontario. The Santa fe performed well and I averaged between 28-30mpg.
BTW, I have the Limited AWD with leather and no Navi.It has a 3.5 six cyl. This is my first Hyundai. We only have Hondas and Acuras in this family. I decided on a Hyundai as I noticed the resale values of Hondas have dropped here . I am happy with my decision. Hope this helps

There are a lot of discussions going on about what to buy regarding the SF.

About all I can say, is my '09 bought this past March has proven to be a wonderful car to own and drive.

I have a spinal condition that causes pain most of the time, and my previous car, an Audi A6 seemed like it would be great, but proved to be miserable to drive for long trips.

On a recent 400 mile trip to NY, other than what I'm used to, it was a great, comfortable drive both ways. I only stopped to eat and get gas, amazing as it seems, i got gas once on the way up and once on the way back. That was all I needed. The mileage computer said i did 26.5 MPG, which was seemed great to me. I normally average 20-21. Which still isn't bad for a 6..

There are posts about the 2010 being better, but for a marginal difference, I'm not sure it matters much. And be aware of other threads elsewhere that discuss the 2010 seems to have transmission issues, which my 2009 seems to have avoided. I doubt there are 09's still available that are new, but with 11's coming soon, maybe the 10's still around will drop in price, although my guess is they won't fall a lot.

As my car was a demo, I ended up with 100,000/10 years and if my wife's 2005 SF is any guage, it's possible i'll not need much of the warranty.

The real decision seems to me not if you want to buy an SF, but what color to pick..! This may not be the best car made, but for the price and what it does, it may well be the best value for any car made.

Hyundai was a joke not many years ago, but they've certainly got a top end product line today.

Find the best deal you can, buy your car, and you'll be happy! What else matters?

    :)

Looking at the GLS FWD I4 Automatic.
    Fairfax, VA
    MSRP @ 22,995, Invoice @ 22,095.
    Most listings @ ~22,100-24,200k. Some @ 27,400's.
Found a few for 21,990's in Manassas.

How low do you think they'll go?
  • rocdredrocdred Member Posts: 17
As many people have noticed, the SF's don't drop in value very much and Hyundai seems content to wait for buyers instead of giving them away.

I got my SF from Manassas Hyundai and they got pretty close to my price, but I was also buying an '09 demo that had been on their lot for a year, so it was probably a car they wanted to move.

As I've (and others) have said, if you like the SF, find the best deal you can and buy it.. It's a great car.. Get the extended 10 year/100k warranty and party on!

I'll admit my Ltd has some nice toys, and the leather seats are REALLY comfortable.. Might be worth the upgrade if you can afford it.

Thanks to this forum I got some great tips. I finally bought a new Santa fe 2010 GLS model. It has cargo net/floormat. My final price including tax title and license came out 22,000. This is Sacramento CA.

All the dealers I talked to couldn't match this price. Only one dealer agreed. Its a basic car with no add ons.

Any thoughts in how I did?

Thanks agian to all the folks who shared their experience.
  • rocdredrocdred Member Posts: 17
IF you're happy with the deal you made, then it's a good deal, which it sounds like.. While the GLS isn't as fancy as the Ltd, I drove both and other than some upgrades, it's still the same basic vehicle, which I'm sure you'll love.

The SF is just a super car and good luck and have loads of fun!

I live in Colorado and am looking for a 2010 SE or Limited. These seem to be as rare as snowballs in the desert. Something about a plant relocation. Wondered if you all can provide more information and when this relocation is expected to be complete and the outlook for Santa Fe availability after that. Thx!
