What you'll see people here suggest is the following: Take the cost of the warranty and set it aside in a savings or investment account. After the factory warranty expires, you'll have a tidy nest egg to use for repairs and if no repairs are needed, you'll have a larger down payment than you might have otherwise.
Two BTWs:
1. You don't have to buy the warranty at the time you buy the vehicle. You should have at least a year and possibly up until the time the factory warranty expires before your option for an extended warranty runs out.
2. Assuming you're financing your Santa Fe, if you don't buy the extended warranty you also aren't financing it and aren't paying interest on that financing so you save a little more money.
I drive around 70-78mph on highways so I do not get the best mileage (22-23) but I can live with it.
Being an '09 with 6500 miles got me an even better deal, in my mind, and it's an LTD, without Nav, which i didn't want anyway.
I've done some long range driving and the usual aches and pains i've had in the past simply never appeared, it was fun to drive, had ample power and just was all around enjoyable. I especially love the integrated IPOD connection. The salesman even got me a free cable.
I'm sure you'll be happy with your selection and you should get many years of good service from it. My wife as an '04 SF and she's had very few things wrong with hers, mostly just routine maintanence.
I've yet to talk to anyone with an SF who doesn't like their car. ! If you're like me and keep your cars a long time, I hope you got their extended warranty. the 10/100k bumper to bumper is the best anywhere.
Good luck and enjoy your new car!

The only issue seems to me the price is high. It's close to list price and it's almost July and the new models are coming soon. So, they want to unload existing inventory.
I'd check Autotrader and Cars.com and see what they're selling for in your area, and my car was a demo, which made it a better price, but a demo is legally a new car.. It had 6500 miles, which is nothing.. My car listed for about 30k and i paid $21 so you can see how much it dropped being a demo.
I found the demo on their lot and the salespeople kept trying to lead me away to other cars..:) Must have been a reason. but it was an acceptable color, which now I really like, it was a Limited with everything but bluetooth and Nav, neither of which i wanted anyway, so it all worked out for me.
Shop and see what deals are out there, but the bottom line is buying a Santa Fe will be a good move for you.!

Thanks
Are you looking at an '09 or '10? That will add a few thousand to the price.
I got an '09.. Maybe thats the difference. But see what they have in demo units.. A demo, combined with Hyundai's extended warranty is a great deal.
I know there was some rebate in there, but i don't recall what it was for.
Apparently I got a good deal.. I saw a few on autotrader around $22k in your area, but they were low mile used. Always worry about those! Unless it's a CPO..
Here's the search I did..: (very long, you might have to cut and paste)

good luck and hope you find a good deal..

I appreciate your response. I was comparing '09 with a '10. I think that was a pretty good price for a "10.
I did find an '09 limited w/o nav. with 3500 mi. They were asking $25K. I'm going to work them till I get the right price. We have a Genesis that we bought from this dealer, so I'm sure I can get him to $21K. I'll keep you posted.

Nothing wrong with low mileage cars if you have the complete extended warranty. I worry about why someone would trade in a car that's practically new.
Do a CPO or a demo and you should get the best deal. ! Don't forget Hyundai has a return customer rebate of $1500 i think.

If you finance at least $5000 from Hyundai, you get $500. The interest rates weren't good though. They have two options: 5 years at 3.9% APR (i took this) and 7 years at 4.9% APR.
Just to let you know, the leather interior is making creaking noises over even small bumps. You don't hear it if you turn on the music. Never owned a leather-seat vehicle before so wouldn't know if it happens in other cars too.
If you don't want leather seats, you can choose SE AWD with navigation package (total MSRP comes to about the same). You won't get Dual-Zone Automatic temperature control and some other cosmetic improvements in SE though.
My problem is the dealer I leased our Genesis from does not have our color, and there is only one in the area.....so he's at $27K + TTL. I guess I have to work him harder! Thanks for the leather heads up...but I have a new Jaguar XF and the leather was making noise also...so the dealer used some sort of leather dressing on it and the leather is now quiet!
I don't know if I am being a stickler here but I drove a 1996 camry before I sold it 2 weeks ago. Never had any sound coming off belts or cloth seats (14 year old car!). Just two sounds when the tires hit the bump.
I took the Santa Fe to the dealer and unfortunately roads around dealership did not have many bumps! They gave me a cloth interior Santa Fe to drive so I could compare. The cloth one was relatively silent.
Hope that helps!
FYI the Santa Fe GLS is on special everywhere to match the price of the Tucson since there are few Tucson's on the lot. Also, the 2011 Santa Fe isn't coming out until August September. They are also mocing the plant for the Santa Fe from Alabama to Georiga, so there will be a stoppage of production of the Santa Fe starting very soon, which means supply will go down and prices will be harder to negotiate.

$23,260 with T,T,T---OTD (FL)
Any thoughts on the price ($3-4 K) differential and pros & cons?
I might have a deal here at $32,000 Out-the-door for their V6 AWD limited pckg w/ nav.
I think I can come down more, but not sure how much.
Any suggestions of a goal? Mine was $24,500, but it seems I can beat it.
srm
I don't think it's a bad price, but is probably an average price. But, Hyundai knows this car is a demand car and sells well, so they won't likely cut the price a lot.
You can always call their bluff and go in and tell them you can't exceed $25k and you'll buy it immediately, and see what they tell you. If they won't budge, then you have your answer. If they can lower the price $1000 to make a sale, you'd likely get it.
On the other hand, today's the end of the month and incentives to move cars goes down a little as Aug starts.
The only thing I can tell you is I love my 2009 limited with all leather. My wife has a 2004 SF and hers has been very reliable with a 40mile a day commute.
Good luck and enjoy your new SF!!
with Nav package, floor mats, cargo net MSRP $27,415.00
with "Dealer Add Ons" (I know it's crap) MSRP $28,362.00
Got down to $24,999 before rebates
Got down to $23,499 after rebates
with dealer fee and T,T,T $26,236.00 "Out the Door"
Good price?? Opinions??
I have a quote from a dealer for an 09 Santa Fe GLS AWD at 19,8000.
Is this a decent price? I am in central Ohio. Any experience's good or bad to share
about Santa Fe's?
Thanks

a few minutes later....
Never mind-- just got it to work by NOT following instructions in owner's manual but rather directions i found elsewhere online.
BTW, I have the Limited AWD with leather and no Navi.It has a 3.5 six cyl. This is my first Hyundai. We only have Hondas and Acuras in this family. I decided on a Hyundai as I noticed the resale values of Hondas have dropped here . I am happy with my decision. Hope this helps
About all I can say, is my '09 bought this past March has proven to be a wonderful car to own and drive.
I have a spinal condition that causes pain most of the time, and my previous car, an Audi A6 seemed like it would be great, but proved to be miserable to drive for long trips.
On a recent 400 mile trip to NY, other than what I'm used to, it was a great, comfortable drive both ways. I only stopped to eat and get gas, amazing as it seems, i got gas once on the way up and once on the way back. That was all I needed. The mileage computer said i did 26.5 MPG, which was seemed great to me. I normally average 20-21. Which still isn't bad for a 6..
There are posts about the 2010 being better, but for a marginal difference, I'm not sure it matters much. And be aware of other threads elsewhere that discuss the 2010 seems to have transmission issues, which my 2009 seems to have avoided. I doubt there are 09's still available that are new, but with 11's coming soon, maybe the 10's still around will drop in price, although my guess is they won't fall a lot.
As my car was a demo, I ended up with 100,000/10 years and if my wife's 2005 SF is any guage, it's possible i'll not need much of the warranty.
The real decision seems to me not if you want to buy an SF, but what color to pick..! This may not be the best car made, but for the price and what it does, it may well be the best value for any car made.
Hyundai was a joke not many years ago, but they've certainly got a top end product line today.
Find the best deal you can, buy your car, and you'll be happy! What else matters?
Fairfax, VA
MSRP @ 22,995, Invoice @ 22,095.
Most listings @ ~22,100-24,200k. Some @ 27,400's.
Found a few for 21,990's in Manassas.
How low do you think they'll go?
I got my SF from Manassas Hyundai and they got pretty close to my price, but I was also buying an '09 demo that had been on their lot for a year, so it was probably a car they wanted to move.
As I've (and others) have said, if you like the SF, find the best deal you can and buy it.. It's a great car.. Get the extended 10 year/100k warranty and party on!
I'll admit my Ltd has some nice toys, and the leather seats are REALLY comfortable.. Might be worth the upgrade if you can afford it.
RocD
All the dealers I talked to couldn't match this price. Only one dealer agreed. Its a basic car with no add ons.
Any thoughts in how I did?
Thanks agian to all the folks who shared their experience.
The SF is just a super car and good luck and have loads of fun!
