$30,000 OTD for a loaded 2010 Santa Fe Limited with Navi? What was your sales tax rate?
  • markinmichiganmarkinmichigan Member Posts: 1
Hi all, about 2 weeks ago, I purchased a 2010 Limited V6 FWD (no navi) w/cargo mat & floor mats.

    Sticker price after destination: $29630.
Price I paid after rebates & before TTL: $25,999.

This was at Suburban Hyundai in Troy, Michigan (at the Troy Motor Mall)

    Great sales experience there.

don't you pay tax and tile and then they subtract the rebates?

I'm looking at a smaller SUV to replace my 2007 Mazda CX-7. I'm giving the CX-7 to my wife to use. I've been test driving a bunch of these. I'm in Colorado and go to the mountains a lot (once per week).

I stopped by the local Hyundai dealer and saw that they had a number of 2009 Santa Fe Limited V6 3.3 AWD on their lot that they are trying to get rid of. The salesperson mentioned that they could probably sell them pretty cheap $6000+ off MSRP. I looked and the TMV price isn't that low so I'm guessing they just need to get rid of these cars. Most of them are between 31,600-31,800 MSRP (basic Limited with maybe some mud flaps or mats or something).

    My questions:
    - Any idea what I should be paying for this type of car?
    - We are planning on keeping the car for a minimum of 6 years. So not that concerned about resale value. Anything that would deter me from getting a Hyundai?
-I read some reviews where people really like Hyundai. Other people complain about the gas mileage. Should I be concerned? Is it really as bad as 14mpg with the 3.3 engine?

Any ideas how the Hyundai 3.3 engine will compare to a Mazda CX-7 in the mountains? I know the V6 might not have as much power at high altitude. Just wondering how bad it might be. The deals on the 2009 might be too good to pass up. Seems like they should really be pushing to get rid of these cars.

Just a bit of a warning. Make sure the 2009 Hyundai Limited as the 19.8 gallon fuel tank as advertised in the owner's manual and elsewhere. I am convinced that my 2009 has a smaller gas tank. When it is close to empty by all indicators I can only get 16 gallons into the fule tank. I have a case number with Hyundai but have had no clarification to date. The smaller tank greatly reduces my range and I am not pleased. If range is important to you, check out the fuel tank.

i paid $24,700 without tax and dmv charges last november 2009. i received $5,000
trade in on my 2005 sante fe balance $19,700 good power . average about 18 mpg
all types of driving. if they have a lot of 2009 sante fe's try getting them to reduce price. i shopped on the internet got best price. also try to find cost of santa fe limited on google and negotiate from cost don't go by msrp or suggested dealer prices.

There is NO WAY that my 2009 FWD Santa Fe Limited has anywhere near this size gas tank. I am not sure what my owners manual says but when the fuel light comes on I can only put about 13 gals into my tank. My guess would be that my tank holds less than 15 gallons. I never let it go very long after the light comes on because I don't want to run out of gas. ;)

Also curious about 2009 Santa Fe v6 limited w floor mats cargo tray and first aid kit dealer selling $29869 with $2500 rebate plus taxes tags for $29183. Not sure if this makes lat year model a good deal? Any advice? :confuse:

How can you tell if the fuel tank on a new car is 19.8 Gallons before you buy it?
  • santafeesantafee Member Posts: 6
Please look into link 270,2010 AWD fully loaded out the door is 30000. So think if you want to go for 2009 or 2010.

The specs for 2010 santafee says 17.8 G
  • clamminfrankclamminfrank Member Posts: 9
Where are you fnding the specs that show 17.8 G?

Everywhere I look it says 19.8. Thanks.
  • clamminfrankclamminfrank Member Posts: 9
While I respect your post, my 2009 Santa Fe FWD DOES NOT hold 19.8 gallons. I am well aware of what the published specs are but something's rotten in Korea. Hyundai themselves have given me a case number while they investigate and that was over three weeks ago. I am not alone in the complaint as another poster believes his tank holds only 15 gallons. Later....

Okay I need help and opinions.

went to the dealer today and they have a new santa fe 2009 with 300 miles on it.
Its a limited with FWD,V6, Nav, Hitch, moonroof. NO Bluetooth, No ipod connect.
Sticker said $30,200 - Dealer quoted a price of $27,000 and change.

They said they would deal on the car and seemed like they wanted to get rid of it. What do you guys think is a good starting price to negotiate from? What is a fair price? What should I expect? ANy thoughts or opinions are appreciated!

Or do you think a 2010 is better? Limited, FWD, v6, with nav, bluetooth? What price could I expect for a 2010?
  • denvertrakkerdenvertrakker Member Posts: 132
$24,000 is not unreasonable for that vehicle. Last year's model, been used as a demo, probably the last one they have - you betcha they want to get rid of it!

Hyundai is on a roll lately, so they probably won't deal as much on a '10.
  • richiegrichieg Member Posts: 9
purchased a 2009 sante fe limited awd loaded except for navigation and blue tooth
i paid $24,700 plus taxes and dmv fees. purchased last november from Danbury
Hyundai in connecticut. they still madee money. consumer reports hasa a number to call that gives you cost of vehicle. that is starting negotiation point,

I am going back and forth between the Santa Fe and the Tucson. The main factor is the size of the Santa Fe and the 4 cylinder engine. The Kia Sorento is also one I am checking into, but the 4 cylinder engine for it is a concern also.

Does this engine have enough power for these vehicles?

We test drove a 2010 Santa Fe with the 2.4L 4-Cyl. front wheel drive with automatic transmission last weekend and were pleasantly surprised. (We wanted to test one with the 6-Speed manual, but none were on the lot.) It wasn't an exhilarating ride, but the 4 Cyl. had satisfactory pep. I felt that the engine in our tester was noisy at idle, but my wife was fine with it. The li'l 4-Cyl. looks kind of puny in that wide engine bay engineered for larger engines in prior years.

What surprised us too was how well the Santa Fe cornered at speed -- it has an excellent ride quality.

We'd choose the Tucson for the reasons you mentioned, but at 25.7 CuFt, the rear luggage space is too small for our family.

I'm trying to figure out the differences between the 2010 Santa Fe GLS and 2010 Kia Sorento Base, but can't quite see what distinguishes one from the other. Other than Sorento is 75 Lbs heaver than Santa Fe for some reason.

After months of aggrevation with my Audi A6, I started looking and was slowly going crazy over purchasing a new car.

Looked at a wide range of cars and was almost lured into an 2008 CPO Acura RDX.. It was nice, had a lot of power in the turbo and was really clean. Not entirely sure why I didn't jump, but I waited.

Looked at a Nissan Murano and other cars.

Then ended up at a Hyundai dealer in Manassas VA and looked and drove a 2009 Santa Fe demo I'd looked at several weeks ago. Really surprised it was still there as it was clean, and looked great with only 6500 miles on it.

Fairly loaded FWD Limited, we took it out for a drive and while it didn't have the ummph of the Acura, it was powerful enough, looked nice and handled well.

Basically went in with a goal of a $300 monthly payment and walked out with a $305 monthly payment after less than an hour. Car will be prepped and I'll get it tues or wed.. I'd tell you what I paid, but honestly, I've not even seen paperwork yet and I really am not sure exactly what the final total ended up being. Think it was around $22k..

I think the warranty was one of the key factors, but geeze, my wife has an older Santa Fe and loves it, a guy at my warehouse has a newer one and loves it and I guess I'll find out if I love it in a few weeks..!

It was pretty painless, and the price for a 2009 was way less than a 2010 for almost an identical car.. If you're thinking about a SF, i'd definitely look for a 09 as they're making sweet deals to get rid of them.

Will see how things go in a few weeks! Will write again if i don't forget!

Feel free to PM me, if you have questions. (I think you can do that on here!)

    Hi Guys,

We wanted to buy a 2010 Hyundai SantaFe SE AWD. We just got the following quote from a local dealer after visiting them:

2010 SantaFe SE AWD + Cargo Net + Wheel Locks + Carpeted Floor Mats =

    $26317 (car, including destination)
    - $1000 trade in ( 1996 Toyota Corolla, 127K miles)
    + 7% tax
    + Tire Tax $7.5
    + 4year registration $299
    + $299 Doc fee
    - $1000 (Hyundai rebate)

    = $26695

We plan to pay cash and we are in Jersey City, NJ.

Is this a reasonable price? On this forum I saw some dealers are making deals 4K to 5K below MSRP price before the Hyundai rebate? That sounds amazing... Are we paying too much for this car?

Thanks so much for your help!
  • rocdredrocdred Member Posts: 17
Hi... The price doesn't sound bad.. But if you do what I did, you could well save over $5000 more.

Find a new 2009, as they are still out there, although the number is dwindling.. They are almost identical to a 2010, but the dealers want them gone. Fast..

I did a new 2009 Limited demo and my final price was $21k ! It has everything but bluetooth.

And my dealer was fairly easy to work with and I'm happy so far.. Of course, i've only had the car a week.

Oh, and after i drove it home, the brakes felt funny, I brought it in at 12, and they turned all 4 rotors and gave it back at 2:30.. Very impressive.

I love the car, hope you do too!

Try amex and overstock for quotes both show $300 less .
Mine was $25036 with $1500 rebate plus tax tags
    for
2010 SE Awd indigo blue pearl with cocoa black
first aid kit, cargo net, cargo tray, mudguards, i-pod cable, remote start
  • agmaoagmao Member Posts: 2
I did not know overstock and AMEX's car buying websites. They look nice and those two look really similar... I will print the page and negotiate a bit more with my local dealer.

Will also take a look for 2009 models, but I think I saw somebody mentioned in the forum that 2010 model feels better and drives better than 2009 model, any one has more comments on that?

    Thanks a lot !

So here's our story. We've done our homework, driven the field, and come down to the SE AWD V6. It drives great, is solid, powerful, has all the features we're looking for (except std. heated seats). We had read about issues with vibration in some vehicles and a potentially harsh ride with the 18" wheels so back to the dealer we went for another test drive. We started with the SE and immediately noticed a vibration in the front that felt like a wheel weight had come off, or cold tires. But it didn't go away even after the car warmed up. So then we tried a Ltd. to see what that felt like. Same issue, just not as pronounced. We were happy with the ride quality on both, not at all harsh. Finally we re-drove a GLS with the 17" wheels to see if perhaps it was the wheel/tire combination. Again, it was there, but less noticeable. What did strike me was a sort of rhythmic drumming sound from the engine that was more annoying than the vibration! What the devil is going on? We're trying to buy one of these SE's, but can't find one that doesn't have any issues! I'm suspicious of the Kumho tires and wish there were some cars at the dealer with different brands installed, but that won't happen, as Kumho's are Korean.

Has anyone felt or experienced what we did with this front end vibration and drumming noise? I know there's a blog for the 2009 model that is all about vibration, but this is on a 2010. We anxious to be done with all this shopping so any replies will help. Thanks.
  • timmythebonetimmythebone Member Posts: 18
Been driving SE AWD V6 for 3 weeks and neither the vibration or drumming sound. Tires are Bridgestones but I wouldn't think it matters. :confuse:

I think one can find fault with any car on the road if that's what you want to do. Nothing will ever be perfect, not even a $100k car..

Just find one you like and the issues will fade into the background as you get used to it.

When I got mine, my drive home was immediately greeted by a clear braking problem, so i brought it in and they found all 4 rotors off a bit and turned them to get it fixed, which it did.

Now my SF is great. The minor issues are just that, minor. And I'm happy with the car.. Hynudai seems very concerned with quality and customer satisfaction, so maybe if there are problems you can duplicate for the shop, they might even have fixes for some of them.

Miy 09 SF Ltd is still new to me, but so far, I'm loving it..

Can anyone provide a definitive answer on this please?

Current 2010 Santa Fe customer incentives include either:

    * $1,000 customer cash back (4/1/2010 - 4/30/2010), or
    * Special APR Financing. As low as 3.9% APR for 60 mos, 4.9% for 72 mos PLUS $1,500 Bonus Cash (4/1/2010 - 4/30/2010)

Current 2010 Santa Fe manufacturer to dealer incentives include $1000 dealer cash (4/1/2010 - 4/30/2010).

One local dealer insists that If I opt to finance and receive the $1500 customer finance cash, the dealer is forced to forfeit the current $1000 manufacturer to dealer cash. For example, this dealer will sell for $27,500 after rebate, but will not sell for $27,000 if I finance. A second dealer disagrees, ie., if I finance I get the $1500 and they keep the $1000. Not only that, they actually get a bit of additional benefit when one finances.

Not sure which to believe? Thank you in advance for your help.
  • vidiot1985vidiot1985 Member Posts: 5
Where did you find info about a $1000 manufacturer to dealer incentive?

Edmunds lists only the two manufacturer to customer incentives, which can't be combined.

In the end, it doesn't really matter what the dealer says about who's getting what money from whom. All that matters is how much each dealer is willing to sell you like vehicles with all incentives and/or financing included.

For the 1st time in my life, I've been negotiating the purchase of a new car-SF LTD with Nav. Interesting process (I'm 66)!! I've been frustrated by the dirth of color chips for this car. My local dealer doesn't even have Santa Fe brochures ....they refer me to the web. The only color I've seen in person is Blk Forest Green.....pretty, but I'm concerned about dirt and wear and tear showing up on this color. Has anyone seen the Pearl White Paint that costs extra): I don't think I've ever thought of a white car as "beautiful", but maybe this color?
  • rocdredrocdred Member Posts: 17
I can tell you i have 2009 Platinum Sage, which i think was discon for 2010 and love it.. it's grey but in bright sun, it's blue.

I'm not a green person so can't tell you about that color.. But all the SF's have nice paint choices, although it's hard to find one you'll like without seeing it.. check other local dealers unless you're in an area without them.. I am in the DC burbs and there are 10 Hyundai dealers within an hours drive, although the one i ended up with was the 1st one i looked at.

I have seen white and it's nice if you like white.. but it's soooo white.. :)

Check for leftover 09s.. they are way cheaper and essentially the same car.. mine was 8k under sticker before negotiating anything.. and i got a demo (legally new) with everything but AWD and Nav.. neither mattered to me..

Good luck.. whatever you buy, i'm going to bet you'll like it.. I love my SF, my wife loves her SF.. and my warehouse manager loves his SF..!

    Marty.
  • geni1geni1 Member Posts: 3
Agree with vidiot....bottom line is what's the best price they'll sell the car for. then take off the customer rebates depending on if you're financing with hyundai for not. Manufacturer to dealer rebates aren't your concern....do they want your business or not!? Good luck.....use Edmunds and TrueCar.com to get the best price you can from several dealers. I'm about to close a deal (although willing to walk away if anything not happy with how it goes) and am satisfied after using these pricing websites.
  • geni1geni1 Member Posts: 3
Hi Marty, did you see 2010 or a 2009 SF in White. I'm not much of a green person either (altho, at 19, I loved my 1965 MGB in British Racing Green). And it may be a moot point depending on what's available.

We have a 2007 SF LTD/FWD in Pearl White w/Black leather....not only beautiful, but easy to care for.
we have 62K miles on it and have had no problems or concerns...hope to be able to say that at 100K and beyond.
we avg. 23mpg week in - week out....have gotten 27-28 on hwy trips...gets better milage at 63mph than at 55mph.

    Hi,

Im looking to buy a car and did my research and read bunch of forums and reviews. I found a used 2008 Santa Fe GLS FWD with 5 speed MT with 15000 miles on it.
This is going to be my first SUV. After doing my research i didnt have any luck with finding reviews about 5 speed version of GLS.

Is $14000 sounds right for the car?
    Thanks
  • rocdredrocdred Member Posts: 17
    My opinion...

It's not a bad price, but it's not spectacular. The Limited is a lot nicer inside..if that doesn't matter.. move on..

A manual trans in an SUV? I'd think it should be reserved for a sports car. Manuals are fun to drive if you're zipping around on curved roads.. in an SUV, maybe not so fun.

But I have only had my 2009 SF for a few weeks now and have to admit to absolutely loving it..

You might want to check your local area for NEW 2009's still out there. Get a new car, with a new warranty for not a lot more than a used 2008.. I'd think the warranty alone could be worth the price. Mine was a demo with 6700 miles.. That made it even a better deal.

If the Limited and the Trans are not an issue for you, i'd say it's about the right price.. is it Hyundai CPO? If not, it may not include the warranty, and without it, i'm not sure i'd buy.. That's one of Hyundai's best features.

I looked at my dealers inventory in Manassas VA, and he's still got a new 09, that you could probably get for 20-22k for a limited..I did an autotrader search locally and found 9 '09's available.

That is by far the best deal out there.. New car, new car warranty.. More than your $14k so that's the biggest issue. but when i started looking, i didn't want to spend over $15 and ended up closer to $22.. But in all truth, it was the best move i've ever made.. It's too new to know what'll happen, but it's just a great comfortable car to drive. Going to my sons college graduation in a few weeks, will see how it does on the high speed US 81 in VA that's 5 hours from here..!

Thanks a lot for a feedback...

    What is "Hyundai CPO?"

My budget is limited to 15k therefore i thought 14k for that car is nice. I couldnt find any of SF in this price range with just 15k miles on it.

The are where i live has a plenty of curves, plus i like a manual. But couldnt find any reviews on how the motor and trans perform....

    Still debating....

I found a dealer with several 2009 base limiteds in tx. they wouldn't move off 23000. we wanted 22500. you think we can get it for that or less next month or when 2011 comes in. anyone think the rebate will increase from 2500
  • rocdredrocdred Member Posts: 17
Hi.. if you found a 09 for 23k and you like it and it's worth 23k to you, then why lose it for $500.. Get them to toss in other stuff like an ipod connector or a the back carpet protector. As the 09's are gone when they're gone, it's a game of chance if you found one you really like. I paid a little less, but it was a demo, so that may have been the difference.

But I love my car and $23k is still 6-7k less than a 2010 similarly equipped and will be more than that for a 2011..

Guess it's a toss up, but if you wait and gamble on it and it sells, then you're SOL.

On current model cars, it's easier to wait and see. Can't do that one old model new since they're out of production.

    Good luck..:)

If it comes with enough warranty to make you happy and you like the car go for it.. My wife has a 2005 SF and it's been very reliable.. Just turned 110k..

Like anything you buy, if the price is a good value to you, then go for it..! I don't think you'll be unhappy with a Hyundai product.. Check into extended warranties, maybe even one from the dealer. An extra $1k-1500 is well worth covering the car up to 100k. One repair can easily exceed that.

    Good luck!

I don't feel great about 23000. I'm not too thrilled about the 20 mpg combined. We got quotes for 2010 for 26000. I'm just surprised they let us walk and couldn't meet in the middle.

    Good deal?

I am assuming it's after 1000 rebate. I am also assuming MSRP is around 29.8k. In that case it's a good deal. you are getting 3K off MSRP, which is not bad.

Post the details of MSRP and rebate, you will get better answers.

You are correct. After $1,000 rebate, MSRP right around that $29.8K.

My wife and I just purchased our 09 Sante Fe Limited yesterday.

It was a Black on Black Demo model. No Navi/running boards but all the rest. After a few hours we were able to settle on $22,500 before TTL.

Purchased from Terry at Key Auto Company in Jacksonville, FL.

I've had my 09 SF for about a month now.. Was a demo model, and i've been thrilled since the day I bought it.

    Enjoy your new car..!
