There were dozens of '09 Sante Fe's on 2 of the 3 lots I went to (3rd dealer was very small budget operation attached to the Ford place and deserted). The Sales Mgr I talked to said he was ordering "every one he could get" to avoid "missing out like we did when we ran out of Elantra's during Cash for Clunkers"... This tells me there's going to be some decent incentives to come this month on the '09's.
Who's got info out there? Thanks!
Anyone think I could get a Santa Fe GLS FWD for $17K + tax + registration?

Even if you're talking about the manual transmission, that's quite a discount. Invoice is $20,800. Minus the $2K rebate, you're looking at $18,8. If you're looking for an automatic, add $1200 to that price.
My research last week did not suggest that dealers would be willing to sell a car for $1800 under invoice. They don't seem that desperate; and the news this week that Hyundai was one of the big C4C winners seems like they're not going to be giving these cars away.
Of course, it's all about the inventory they have. I got the best deal from a dealer in a somewhat rural area who had 8-9 Santa Fes lined up on his lot. And he was able to trade one of them with another dealer to get me the color/options I wanted. So if you have a dealer who's overstocked, maybe.
If you get a deal that good, come back here and let us know!
$2K cash back plus Gas Lock for all buyers (added Gas Lock for Sept).
Plus an additional $1K added in Sept for a trade-in allowance to sweeten the deal if you have a trade.
Soooo.... Just stick to your Edmunds price on your trade-in plus $1K to avoid having them try to keep that difference. On a trade deal you're looking at $3K plus Gas lock difference. That's pretty darn convincing to me. The sales person I'm dealing with is someone I've known for years and isn't playing around so there you go folks. Happy Hunting!
So, really the only extra incentive this month is gas lock. I'm not sold.
In October prices are going to drop.

I negotiated this deal with the salesman on the evening of Sept 3rd. Since it was closing time and I needed my wife to also sign on the purchase, they told me to come back on Sept 5th to finalize things. The salesman also wanted to get the final approval from either the GM or owner (can't remember which), since this was a below-invoice deal.
I come in on the 5th, and we go through the terms of the deal again. We are only $12 apart (due to them assuming 15 days of interest before my trade-in is paid off vs. me assuming 5 days).
The salesman asks me to initial indicating that I'll buy today on those terms and he'll get the sales manager's approval. He comes back and says, "oops, I made a mistake. The used car manager was already assuming $1,000 of bonus cash in your trade-in offer, but didn't tell me that before."
So essentially, they were raising the price of the car by a $1,000 right before it was time to sign. The salesman seemed somewhat embarrassed, so I like to think it was an honest mistake, but given that we had the used car manager and sales manager involved in the process just two days prior, I have doubts.
This really soured what was otherwise a decent, low-pressure experience at this dealer. I walked and won't be bringing my business to them.
Elyria Hyundai in Elyria, Ohio.
Not nice... but not rare.. You negotiate a price on one day, then come back the next day to complete the sale and the numbers change.
Let's put it this way... you never know what the real sale price is, until you are finished the paperwork and driven away..

Easy transaction @ Ron Tonkin Hyundai
Long story short - use the internet! It was haggle and hassle free. And the dealership I went to had an A+ BBB rating, so I wasn't afraid to make the trip.
I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. I used the internet when buying my 2007 and
like your experience there were no hassles. Enjoy it!
I wanted the SE Premium, but most dealerships around here are low of supply with the SE's. So I got the LTD for the essentially the same price as an SE
Anyway, I decided to wait until the frenzy of C4C finish. Last Friday found the car I want at Suresky Hyundai and asked for a quote, get $25350 OTD, which is a fair price to start with. My buddy helped with a little bit of negotiation and get OTD $25014.35. Did all the negotiation with email and phone calls, drove down there today, one hour and 15 minutes in the dealership, test drove the car, read the fine prints, got the finance down, sign the paper and took the car, it was a pretty nice process, both the sales person and the finance manager were very professional and not pushy at all, highly recommend it to anyone central, south NY, north NJ and CT. Here is final break down:
MSRP: $27935(pearl white, beige, floor mats, cargo net, cargo trail, mudguard)
Sale Price: $22793.35(after $2000 rebate)
tax: $1983.52
tl: standard, around $170
OTD: $25014
plus $1.49 gallon gas for full year
the sale price is only slightly more than the best price I saw people on this forum got. It was not easy to live in upstate NY for a month without a car, but my waiting saves me $1200 on the price of the car and wins me the cheap gas. Suresky's price is very competitive. I used to look at fitzmall and Alexandria only, but now they are lacking behind. Glad not to travel to MD to buy my car.
Drove back 120 miles, very smooth transmission, nice layout, easy to use button on the steering wheel, only complain is the road noise is more than I expected. Gas milage is not great but probably need several weeks to break in. Anyway, thanks to people on this forum with all the info and good luck to future buyers. :shades: :shades: :shades: :shades: :shades:
It is hard for me to fathom people paying anything more than 21 or 22k for a Santa Fe, and that would be for a relatively loaded one.
The base GLS, which is fairly well equipped, can be had for mid 17k plus TTL.
To think some of you actually are paying 28k to 32k literally shocks me.
Did the internet/phone contact route and was down to a local dealership and Doug's Hyundai in Lynnwood, about 80 miles away. We ended up with this deal from Doug's:
MSRP: 31,945 (pearl white, mats, bluetooth)
Invoice: 30,131 (this includes $150 advertising)
Price after $2K rebate applied: 27,431, or $700 under invoice. And, they threw in an iPod cable, outside of the deal. Odometer = 9 miles.
All in all, it took about 3 hours to do a test drive, haggle over the trade in/doc fees, do the paperwork - which took the longest since I read everything! - and transfer our stuff from our trade in. We had called ahead, said we'd be down with our trade in, but made no commitments (and hadn't decided to buy going in). When we arrived the Santa Fe was washed and parked out front, ready for a drive. Paperwork was already started on the chance we might buy. (It was a VERY slow day.) After we agreed to a deal, the salesman covered all the new owner items while the finance guy prepared his paperwork. While we were signing papers, the car was filled with gas and our trade was brought around and parked next to it, so we could transfer our stuff easily. Nicely orchestrated, very little wasted time and no feeling of pressure.
If I've missed anything relevant, I'll try to answer.
Also, can anyone please give a fair OTD for 2009 basic SantaFe in CA?
Thanks much
I hope prices drop for October because I know all the dealerships in NJ have had a terrible September.
I also won't buy a second until there is a significant increase in dealer cash or rebate or loyalty rebate, etc.
Local dealerships here in the northeast have told me that the Hyundai plant in Alabama is still sending 09 models and that the 2010 models will not come out until 2010 sometime. I know in my area there are still 09's coming in and a lot still around.
MSRP was $29,885
OTD was $25,706
That includes license, title, sales tax, destination fee, doc fee, everything. The only thing not included in that number was my actual trade in. I had an old clunker. The Cary dealership offered me $300. They Fayetteville dealership offered $1000. So my final price was actually $24,706
I didn't haggle at all. I almost choked when they said my trade-in was good for $1000. I would've been happy with $600.
Good luck with your purchase and let me know how it goes for you. We love our new car!
Please post any offers or final deals in terms of $$ off MSRP so that we can all try and compare the current climate for deals.
FYI - I'm in NE Ohio.
They have a TON of stock, many limited trims. They can't even give these away. No 2010s yet.
Depreciation hurts, with many used 2008s listing near 15k with moderate miles. But if you keep the car forever, it's a bargain.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
