Anyone out there with the scoop on the September incentives on the '09's? Cash for Clunkers hasn't wiped them all out by a long shot.

There were dozens of '09 Sante Fe's on 2 of the 3 lots I went to (3rd dealer was very small budget operation attached to the Ford place and deserted). The Sales Mgr I talked to said he was ordering "every one he could get" to avoid "missing out like we did when we ran out of Elantra's during Cash for Clunkers"... This tells me there's going to be some decent incentives to come this month on the '09's.

Who's got info out there? Thanks!

dealership told me yesterday that the 09 Santa Fe's have $2K in rebates plus gas lock (but you can't get an extra 1K in place of gas lock) I also believe they have increased the dealer cash available to dealerships who sell this month.

Anyone think I could get a Santa Fe GLS FWD for $17K + tax + registration?
  • tenpin288tenpin288 Member Posts: 804
I just looked at the Hyundai USA website and the September incentives are posted. In my area the SF, all trims, has only the $2000 rebate and no mention of Gas Lock anywhere on the website. :(

"Anyone think I could get a Santa Fe GLS FWD for $17K + tax + registration?"

Even if you're talking about the manual transmission, that's quite a discount. Invoice is $20,800. Minus the $2K rebate, you're looking at $18,8. If you're looking for an automatic, add $1200 to that price.

My research last week did not suggest that dealers would be willing to sell a car for $1800 under invoice. They don't seem that desperate; and the news this week that Hyundai was one of the big C4C winners seems like they're not going to be giving these cars away.

Of course, it's all about the inventory they have. I got the best deal from a dealer in a somewhat rural area who had 8-9 Santa Fes lined up on his lot. And he was able to trade one of them with another dealer to get me the color/options I wanted. So if you have a dealer who's overstocked, maybe.

If you get a deal that good, come back here and let us know!
  • counselor4444counselor4444 Member Posts: 47
I've already gotten quotes of $18,5 for a 09 GLS FWD with auto trans. but that is too high for us right now. Hyundai is giving the dealerships a lot of dealer cash this month to sell them.
  • 1hhead1hhead Member Posts: 18
I have yet to close this deal, so anything's possible, but here's what the Sales team at my local dealer explained about September Santy incentives...

$2K cash back plus Gas Lock for all buyers (added Gas Lock for Sept).

Plus an additional $1K added in Sept for a trade-in allowance to sweeten the deal if you have a trade.

Soooo.... Just stick to your Edmunds price on your trade-in plus $1K to avoid having them try to keep that difference. On a trade deal you're looking at $3K plus Gas lock difference. That's pretty darn convincing to me. The sales person I'm dealing with is someone I've known for years and isn't playing around so there you go folks. Happy Hunting!
  • counselor4444counselor4444 Member Posts: 47
The 1K trade in allowance is in lieu on a 1K dealer cash incentive. So, no big deal. Last month there was a $1250 dealer incentive.

So, really the only extra incentive this month is gas lock. I'm not sold.

In October prices are going to drop.

I have a bizarre follow-up to this buying experience:

I negotiated this deal with the salesman on the evening of Sept 3rd. Since it was closing time and I needed my wife to also sign on the purchase, they told me to come back on Sept 5th to finalize things. The salesman also wanted to get the final approval from either the GM or owner (can't remember which), since this was a below-invoice deal.

I come in on the 5th, and we go through the terms of the deal again. We are only $12 apart (due to them assuming 15 days of interest before my trade-in is paid off vs. me assuming 5 days).

The salesman asks me to initial indicating that I'll buy today on those terms and he'll get the sales manager's approval. He comes back and says, "oops, I made a mistake. The used car manager was already assuming $1,000 of bonus cash in your trade-in offer, but didn't tell me that before."

So essentially, they were raising the price of the car by a $1,000 right before it was time to sign. The salesman seemed somewhat embarrassed, so I like to think it was an honest mistake, but given that we had the used car manager and sales manager involved in the process just two days prior, I have doubts.

This really soured what was otherwise a decent, low-pressure experience at this dealer. I walked and won't be bringing my business to them.

    That's not bizarre.. perfectly normal..

Not nice... but not rare.. You negotiate a price on one day, then come back the next day to complete the sale and the numbers change.

Let's put it this way... you never know what the real sale price is, until you are finished the paperwork and driven away..

A local Denver dealer (the one I bought my SE from a year or so ago) is advertising an '09 GLS with AWD, MSRP $24,470 for $16,795 - and you STILL get the $1.49 gas for a year.
  • counselor4444counselor4444 Member Posts: 47
what is the fine print on the $16,795?
  • denvertrakkerdenvertrakker Member Posts: 132
None that I could see. Underneath the listing it says "78 available" (from memory - I chucked the paper already). BUT - that's probably total inventory, not all GLS and not at that price. So, that price might be for one particular car, but there were NO qualifiers such as a particular stock number, or "demo" or anything like that. I assume that somewhere in the ad it would say "dealer retains all rebates".

    High Pressure tactics
    Uncomfortable pressure tactics.

Know your prices. He goe by a very high sticker and discounts 30% His sticker is 5k higher than everyone else.

    Very High pressure

Poor response time (none yet) to phone messages about simple registration question for new santa fe

    Great price
  • counselor4444counselor4444 Member Posts: 47
There has to be fine print for that. That is going to include all kinds of rebates and incentives that you may or may not be eligible for including: military, college grad, loyalty, dealership loyalty, trade-ins, etc incentives and rebates. Look directly next to the price in the paper for the fine print and also at the very bottom of the ad. Then call the dealership and ask specifically what if any rebates and incentives are included in that price. You need to know this info up front before you go in to negotiate.

Brad Benson Hyundai has a rating of "F" by the Better Business Bureau of New Jersey. According to the BBB's website, Brad Benson "BBB processed a total of 87 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period." That is beyond terrible. Be warned.
  • boltguyboltguy Member Posts: 94
I actually zoomed in their print ad from arapahoehyundai.com and it includes college rebate, military rebate, and owner loyalty rebate..

First time post... I purchased a beautiful Santa Fe Limited this week. After experiencing complete frustration with a local dealership, I called the internet sales manager at dealership 50 miles away. I was immediately offered a Limited (with cargo tray, cargo mat and carpets) for $25,448. I took advantage of the trade-in bonus which brought the price down even further. I'll save another $1000 with the gas card this year, so I'm feeling fantastic.

Long story short - use the internet! It was haggle and hassle free. And the dealership I went to had an A+ BBB rating, so I wasn't afraid to make the trip.
  • slateblueslateblue Member Posts: 110
Congratulations on the new Santa Fe, I think you did well with your purchase and
I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. I used the internet when buying my 2007 and
like your experience there were no hassles. Enjoy it! :)

Has anyone seen anything of the 2010 models. Local dealership says no sign and they are nearly out of 09s. I had understood that manufacturing would start by early summer with the 09 production being cut short and that significant changes in design would appear on the 2010's. Anyone have a clue.?
  • luckyolesonluckyoleson Member Posts: 4
Congrats!! Ree, did that price include taxes etc etc ?
  • reeservedreeserved Member Posts: 7
Yes, everything except my trade in value and down payment. That was the OTD price. It's a small dealership in Fayetteville, North Carolina. They have a dozen or more Limiteds and I think they are eager to clear them off. I was just as eager to get one :-)
  • NY_MaverickNY_Maverick Member Posts: 26
Was that for a 2WD or All Wheel Drive?
  • reeservedreeserved Member Posts: 7
For a 2WD. I think the MSRP was in the low 30's.
  • luckyolesonluckyoleson Member Posts: 4
Ree, one last question.Did your LTD come with sunroof?mWell my daughter is in her SE with Prem # $ and Bluetooth OTD for 25,500.The only real diff i see with the 2 is the LTD is the leather. I still cant help but think i could have done better, but as we say in these parts, it's all good. But since her mother is listed as the primary owner, i'm sure glad that i wont have to be around for the arguements when her mother wants to drive her car. I fear my daughter will be moving back in with me soon. LOL One other thing, they tried their damnest denie the 1.49 gas. I actually rose from my seat and caused a commotion. My guess is that since it comes from Hyuandai central that there is a way for them to make money off this if it is not included in sale.
  • reeservedreeserved Member Posts: 7
Yes, the LTD has leather and sunroof. It has a few other features that the SE doesn't, like the 6 CD players and 10 speaker Infinity sound system. It's loaded with nice features, but no BlueTooth

I wanted the SE Premium, but most dealerships around here are low of supply with the SE's. So I got the LTD for the essentially the same price as an SE

Finally made the purchase today, long long story: started to look at dealer prices at the end of July, worst time ever with C4C started, everybody jacked up their prices, even the ones previously mentioned by others as straightforward and honest dealers(fitzmall, Alexandria, etc). fitzmall went from almost 5000 dollars off MSRP to 3000 off then 2000 off then 500 off. Alexandria Hyundai initially quoted the AWD SE I want at $24939 OTD with 8.25% NY tax, the car was sold before I can take it and then they raised the price so much that the quote of a FWD SE with same options as the AWD SE is more than $25000, once again, demand and supply kicked in and even the nicest shark would jump on you when they get a chance.

Anyway, I decided to wait until the frenzy of C4C finish. Last Friday found the car I want at Suresky Hyundai and asked for a quote, get $25350 OTD, which is a fair price to start with. My buddy helped with a little bit of negotiation and get OTD $25014.35. Did all the negotiation with email and phone calls, drove down there today, one hour and 15 minutes in the dealership, test drove the car, read the fine prints, got the finance down, sign the paper and took the car, it was a pretty nice process, both the sales person and the finance manager were very professional and not pushy at all, highly recommend it to anyone central, south NY, north NJ and CT. Here is final break down:

MSRP: $27935(pearl white, beige, floor mats, cargo net, cargo trail, mudguard)
    Sale Price: $22793.35(after $2000 rebate)
    tax: $1983.52
    tl: standard, around $170
    OTD: $25014
plus $1.49 gallon gas for full year

the sale price is only slightly more than the best price I saw people on this forum got. It was not easy to live in upstate NY for a month without a car, but my waiting saves me $1200 on the price of the car and wins me the cheap gas. Suresky's price is very competitive. I used to look at fitzmall and Alexandria only, but now they are lacking behind. Glad not to travel to MD to buy my car.

Drove back 120 miles, very smooth transmission, nice layout, easy to use button on the steering wheel, only complain is the road noise is more than I expected. Gas milage is not great but probably need several weeks to break in. Anyway, thanks to people on this forum with all the info and good luck to future buyers. :shades: :shades: :shades: :shades: :shades:

Reading some of these posts shocks me.

It is hard for me to fathom people paying anything more than 21 or 22k for a Santa Fe, and that would be for a relatively loaded one.

The base GLS, which is fairly well equipped, can be had for mid 17k plus TTL.

To think some of you actually are paying 28k to 32k literally shocks me.
  • air2karlair2karl Member Posts: 16
If you buy GLS or SE trim, you can definitely get a deal no more than 23k before ttl, just as you said, a FWD GLS invoice - 2000 rebate- 1500 discount = mid 17k. However, if somebody want the leather seat and dual zone climate control in Ltd trim, it is gonna be very hard to get a deal below 25k since their MSRP is around 32k. I guess I am getting your point clearly, do you mean people are not getting good enough deals or they shouldn't go for the highest trim? :P
  • moml111moml111 Member Posts: 6
Reserved - we are in North Carolina also. Working with our dealer we were are at a figure of around $25,500 with bonus for trade-in. (approximate $30,000 MSRP). Sounds like you got that price before bonus. Just to confirm your price also included tax and destination. We are planning on calling the Fayeteville Dealership for pricing. We are probably 1 1/2 hours away.

I have just purchased a 2009 Sante Fe from the Hyundai dealer on 441 just north of Sample. I really liked the salesman & feel that I got a fair price. They were helpful & informative. I did not wish to buy another new vehicle as I still owed a lot on a 2007 Saturn Vue w/ 100,000 miles. But they made me an offer I couldn't refuse (not involving sleeping with fishes either). I believe it is Coral Springs Auto Mall on 441 just north of Sample by the Casino. I did shop around and they did not pressure me into a purchase like everyone else did, at least not over the top uncomfortable pressure like the stereo typical salesman. Let me know if this helps.

Can anyone help with a price I should be at for a Santa Fe Gls auto Fwd in Illinois. Thanks .
  • timidonetimidone Member Posts: 1
Thanks to all who have posted before; I hope this post will also help others.

Did the internet/phone contact route and was down to a local dealership and Doug's Hyundai in Lynnwood, about 80 miles away. We ended up with this deal from Doug's:

MSRP: 31,945 (pearl white, mats, bluetooth)
Invoice: 30,131 (this includes $150 advertising)
Price after $2K rebate applied: 27,431, or $700 under invoice. And, they threw in an iPod cable, outside of the deal. Odometer = 9 miles.

All in all, it took about 3 hours to do a test drive, haggle over the trade in/doc fees, do the paperwork - which took the longest since I read everything! - and transfer our stuff from our trade in. We had called ahead, said we'd be down with our trade in, but made no commitments (and hadn't decided to buy going in). When we arrived the Santa Fe was washed and parked out front, ready for a drive. Paperwork was already started on the chance we might buy. (It was a VERY slow day.) After we agreed to a deal, the salesman covered all the new owner items while the finance guy prepared his paperwork. While we were signing papers, the car was filled with gas and our trade was brought around and parked next to it, so we could transfer our stuff easily. Nicely orchestrated, very little wasted time and no feeling of pressure.

If I've missed anything relevant, I'll try to answer.
  • reeservedreeserved Member Posts: 7
I'll have to look at my paperwork again to see the exact price, but yes, that sounds about right. We are 1.5 hours from Fayetteville as well but it was worth the drive. Prior to that, we were trying to get a deal in Cary. There are no deals in Cary :-)
  • needacar123needacar123 Member Posts: 11
Hi - does anyone on this forum have an experience buying through carmax? Is it true that it follows no haggle pricing. Is it liek a crime to even think about price haggling in carmax?

Also, can anyone please give a fair OTD for 2009 basic SantaFe in CA?

    Thanks much

A GLS base FWD model (automatic) at invoice is 22,896 plus 750 destination charge = 22,846. Minus 2,000 rebate for September = 20,846. In August $1250 dealer cash was being offered for the north east (this month I believe it was 1,000 OR 1,000 trade in cash- so less was being offered for September). If I subtract August's 1250, that makes this vehicle 19,600. We bought one in August and have decided to buy a second, but are waiting until a better deal is offered (since the dealer cash went down and we are not impressed with gas lock as gas is now down to $2.20 where we live). You cannot get this vehicle for "mid 17k" right now. IF you wanted a manual, you may be able to get that for around 18ishK. But no one wants a manual. (nor do I).

I hope prices drop for October because I know all the dealerships in NJ have had a terrible September.

I also won't buy a second until there is a significant increase in dealer cash or rebate or loyalty rebate, etc.

    Shivelyt,
Local dealerships here in the northeast have told me that the Hyundai plant in Alabama is still sending 09 models and that the 2010 models will not come out until 2010 sometime. I know in my area there are still 09's coming in and a lot still around.
  • reeservedreeserved Member Posts: 7
    I looked over my paperwork.
    MSRP was $29,885
    OTD was $25,706
That includes license, title, sales tax, destination fee, doc fee, everything. The only thing not included in that number was my actual trade in. I had an old clunker. The Cary dealership offered me $300. They Fayetteville dealership offered $1000. So my final price was actually $24,706

I didn't haggle at all. I almost choked when they said my trade-in was good for $1000. I would've been happy with $600.

Good luck with your purchase and let me know how it goes for you. We love our new car!
  • moml111moml111 Member Posts: 6
Thank you so much reserved. We live in Cary, and we thought the price was high also at the Hyundai in Cary. My husband has since called Greensboro and Fayeteville - both of which were about $1,000 less than the price we were quoted in Cary. Thanks for all your help. Glad to hear you love the vehicle.
  • reeservedreeserved Member Posts: 7
The other difference with the Cary store is the doc fee was higher and they offered less for the trade-in. But since you live here too, you probably aren't surprised by that. I love living in Cary, but it isn't known for bargains.

I have a quote of $29,000 for a 2009 SF LTD AWD V6, touring w/ rear seat entertainment, MSRP of ~$35K. The $29K price reflects $2,000 cash back. Seems like gas assurance is no longer available. Is this a good price? I am looking for a car relatively soon and will gratefully appreciate any guidance.
  • dsatterw8dsatterw8 Member Posts: 3
Looking at 2009 Sante Fe SE FWD with added option package (heated seats, etc). So far we have offers of $3,922 and $4,372 off of MSRP going through AAA website. That includes the current $2,500 cash back.

Please post any offers or final deals in terms of $$ off MSRP so that we can all try and compare the current climate for deals.

FYI - I'm in NE Ohio.

Walked in to Roseville Hyundai and test drove a GLS last night. The sales guy threw out 18k as we were leaving. Sacbee ads listed 19.5k.

They have a TON of stock, many limited trims. They can't even give these away. No 2010s yet.

Depreciation hurts, with many used 2008s listing near 15k with moderate miles. But if you keep the car forever, it's a bargain.

    Hope this helps.

First time Hyundai owner! I shopped around 4-5 dealers in the Bay Area and South County Nissan Internet Manager was willing to quote me $21,800 for the 2009 Santa Fe SE with added bluetooth and carpeted floor mats. In all, it was $24, 300 out the door. And I asked him to engage the autolocks as a courtesy which he did w/o question. I would highly recommend that dealer again.
  • needacar123needacar123 Member Posts: 11
Hi - I am in sacramento and planning to buy a Santa Fe. Was wondering if the Roseville dealer gave 18k as OTD for GLS? or was it base price and will add fee +tax etc?

    Thanks
