Were you able to contact West Broad in Richmond? Based on the price I got from them on a SE FWD and adding the difference for the Limited and AWD. I think you could come out about 1500 better. You didn't say if your price included any rebate. Check some of the earlier post to see what others paid.
  • CowherPowerCowherPower Member Posts: 8
Yes, my price includes the $2k rebate, so it is the bottom line out-the-door number for me. I looked over a whole bunch of posts in this thread but only found one or two with hard numbers on a Limited AWD. Seemed like my price was better than those.

Thanks for the tip on checking West Broad. I'm in northern Virginia, so that would be a haul, but maybe I can get a better quote from them and then use it up here.

I see on the Hyundai web site that the $2000 SF rebate continues for the month of July. They also have on the top of the page an offer of $1000 rebate and a year's worth of gas at $1.49/gal. I assume that you get to pick one or the other?

That's how it works in my zip code:

"$1,000 customer cash plus Hyundai's "$1.49 Gas Summer Sales Event" is not combinable with the $2,000 cash offer."

2009 Hyundai Santa Fe Incentives & Rebates

We'll move this thread over to the Hyundai Santa Fe Prices Paid and Buying Experience discussion - have fun shopping!

I hadn't thought to check the Edmunds page. Same story for my zip code.

"Fun" is not a word I've ever associated with car shopping. Except for the last car I bought (first time with internet sales) I feel like taking a shower by the time it's done. ;) This time around though, even dealing with internet sales, so far it's looking like another shower is coming. :(

OTOH since I spent some time selling cars in an earlier life I do amuse myself predicting what the salesman or manager is going to say/try next. :D

But I've still got some time. I'm waiting for the CARS program to get in full swing. I'll either buy in late July for delivery the first week of August (if they agree) or just buy in early August.

I'm in Roanoke, it was about 6 hrs round trip. But for the money I saved, it was worth it. We only have 2 local dealers and neither of them would touch the price.
I only looked at SE FWD and of course you are looking a much higher model plus AWD. I'm sure someone will come along with much more knowledge than I have to help you out.
  • azjazj Member Posts: 18
One thing I've noticed in my initial dealings with dealers this time is that several absolutely refuse to respond to email.

This time around I decided to email all the dealers within 100 miles of 85023 and ask for their best out the door price on a new 09 SF SE 2WD. Depending on their website I either used the web contact form, the internet department's email address or direct email addresses if given. One was contacted through Costco's web car buying service. My hope was that this would reduce confusion and give me a printed record of what was promised.

Of the 10 I contacted, San Tan in Gilbert and Tim's in Prescott haven't responded at all to repeated emails. Tempe, the Costco dealer, called and left a message but hasn't responded to my emails. And I thought dealers were hurting. :confuse:

The rest have been painful. All have required a series of back and forth emails due to quoting the wrong vehicle, forgetting to make it an out the door price, disagreements about SE standard equipment or having to re-answer questions that were answered in my original request. One guy's emails read like a series of text messages- sentences run together, no capitalization, mis-spellings, etc. Another called and left a message that included a comment that I would also get an email because "that was my preferred method of contact". So then why did he fracking call? :confuse:

Thanks, but I checked their website and unfortunately they only have one Limited AWD and it's black. There's no way I'm getting black - WAY too hard to keep clean.

In general, am I crazy to want an AWD? It seems like dealers carry very few of them and almost everyone here seems to be getting FWD. I know it add about $1,500 to the cost, but it's nice to have in the snow or if you go to the Outer Banks and want to drive on the sand!
  • clueless17clueless17 Member Posts: 15
I don't think you are crazy. I think you should buy what you can afford. I would have bought an AWD SE if I could have, but I knew what I could and wanted to pay.
I have had an AWD in the past, and I very rarely used it. Have you looked at an SE AWD? I know they are not as plush as the limited, but might be a consideration if you are trying to keep the price down. JMO

Ok, so I finally found a 2009 Limited AWD in the right color, but it already has 300 miles. I'm in northern Virginia, and it turns out that the dealer did a swap with a dealer in Pennsylvania and they drove the car down. I don't know anything about break-in periods, but I can't imagine that it's good to put a brand new car on the interstate and drive it 300 miles. Should I be concerned, or are break-in periods mostly a thing of the past?

    Thanks!

Anybody hear anything about what's in store for 2010. The current model is getting pretty stale. I had heard that they were going to make 2009s only thru May and then start producing 2010s forward. Some design changes expected. They need to work on gas mileage.

I'm in Canada so I guess your prices won't help me at all. I have asked 5 dealers for an email price, only 1 responded. I gave a phony phone # and address cause I don't want them calling me or writing me. I want to see the email price first, then decide to call them myself.
I just came back from 2 weeks vacation in Victoria, BC and the rental I was given is the Sante Fe and I fell in love. It was wonderful to drive and the vision was amazing. I don't even want to look at my car, told hubby I want a Santa Fe, he said ok. I am 2 hrs from the City here, so I really need to get email prices before I drive into the city to shop. I need to know what they have in stock etc.
Do any of you think that paying cash automatically saves money? Or does it matter?

I hate buying new vehicles, I'm good at dickering, I simply say: Can't go that high, thanks for your time and walk out. They usually call me by the next day, however, like I say I live 2 hrs. from dealerships, so that won't happen now.
Its a wonderful SUV, I didn't think I'd ever want one but here I am, and I never thought I'd ever buy foreign, but here I am lol.
Good Luck to all, hope I can get a good deal

If you intend to keep the car till it drops, I'd say worry about the break in period. if you intend to sell it in 3-5 years, leave the break in worries to the next owner to worry about oil consumption and low mileage.
  • anonymouse2anonymouse2 Member Posts: 17
My experience was similar. But all said, after 3 weeks of emails and calls, I felt I got the car I wanted at the price I wanted, and I did not have to dicker around too much on their turf. Its a control issue - car dealerships are mostly based on a high pressure sale and controlling your emotions when they have you in the dealership. When you do it over email, price is the only tool they have, and usually the folks who will not respond know that they will never be the lowest price. So I felt I was probably not losing much with the dealers who did not respond. Also, make absolutely certain they tell you the OTD price for the car, not just their discounted price as they can always slip in things when you get there.
  • CowherPowerCowherPower Member Posts: 8
Thanks for everyone's input, but in the end it looks like I will not be getting a Santa Fe. The price was right, but on my last test drive I just couldn't get comfortable without my head hitting the roof. I'm 6' 4" with most of that coming above the belt, and I would have had to tilt the seat way back to stop my hair from rubbing on the ceiling. So now I am looking at getting a Toyota Highlander instead. It's a good bit more expensive, but I also think it is much nicer on the inside (and maintains its value better). The Santa Fe looks like a great vehicle, I just wish it had an extra inch of head room.
  • sbn5sbn5 Member Posts: 2
So I am shopping for a 09 Limited AWD and currently have a quote of $27,300 OTD. How does this sound for a deal? I've been playing two dealers against each other and could hopefully get a little bit lower - question is how much (if at all). This is in VA/NC.

    THanks.
  • marg2buymarg2buy Member Posts: 4
Well I'm finding that the salesmen online are inflexible. Their pat answer to me so far is: go to the website, the vehicles and prices are all there to browse through.
And if I want any more information to phone him. I'm trying to get something in writing in an email b/f I call him, or should say them, still waiting, they're not giving an inch

  • marg2buymarg2buy Member Posts: 4
please explain what is OTD? :shades:
  • azjazj Member Posts: 18
Out The Door. In essence the amount of the check you give them.

I've had somewhat better luck online. Out of the eleven dealers within 100 miles, three haven't responded at all. Two were pretty good often responding within an hour (during business hours). Their answers were always on point. These two were lowest quotes I got. The others were considerably worse: not answering my question, answering the wrong question, days between between replies, etc. Overall I got a range of $1200 on their lowest, OTD prices.

One I nicknamed texting guy- his answers looking like of bunch of text messages strung together. While he was the one of the lowest priced and promised to beat any other dealer's price his lack of professionalism, timeliness (or lack thereof) and varying answers over time really turned me off.

I ended up putting a deposit down this weekend with one of the good ones. The price was as quoted.

    Hi there,
I called West Broad in Richmond today and got a great deal on the Sante Fe SE FWD. We're completing the deal Thursday and I plan to pick it up on Saturday.

Thanks for the tip. It was good talking to you Sunday night....I really appreciate your help and I can't wait to pick it up. I got the Slate Blue.

    Thanks again,
    Lauren in VA

Congratulations, I know you will LOVE it. The Slate Blue is a beautiful color.
I am so glad that we were able to help.

I'm in Canada, so the pricing is different. I've decided I want a GL 3.3L AWD, we have lots of snow here lol. So the price I've been quoted is $30,000. So thats a beginning, now I have narrowed it down I can contact the dealerships again and say for sure what I want. In a few days we'll drive the 2 hrs. to see the salesmen, that will be stressful. We're hoping to get them down to $27,000. for a cash deal. Do they really give you a better deal if its cash? Hope so

Hi,everyone, glad to find this forum and hope to get some help here, thanks in advance! I live in Albany, ny and would like to know if anyone knows any good dealership in my area. Another thing is, some of my friends keep saying stay away from Korean cars, only get Honda or Toyota, even my Korean friends drive camery. However, after reading on this forum, I feel like Santa Fe is a nice car, and the price and warranty look great. So if anyone can give some objective opinion on this, say, comparing the Santa Fe with the CRV or Highlander, what is the difference there? I am looking to get a SUV. Thanks everyone! Appreciate any input on my questions! :shades:

Do they really give you a better deal if its cash? Hope so

My experience has been that they'd rather not sell you a car for cash - it removes the potential for them to make money on the financing.

Let them think you'll be financing the car, then they're more likely to give you a low price, then turn you over to the F&I guy for the REAL profit...

Our daughter was really encouraging us to purchase a Honda since she and her hubby have been very happy with their CRV. I did my own research and decided I wanted an 09 SF Limited FWD. I never thought I would buy a Hyundai; but we did. We decided to go with Hyundai of Valdosta (GA). I test drove one 08 with the 3rd row and Rear Entertainment System. I decided to go with my "gut" and purchased the 09 for $24,008 Out The Door including dealer discounts AND they gave us the $4,500 Cash for Clunkers. (We had a 1995 XLT Ford Explorer 4wd). I am very excited. We drove the car down to our home in Central Florida and loved the ride. My only question about the car has been the red blinking red light up by the windshield on the drivers side.

I had a very pleasant experience with the Hyundai of Valdosta and would encourage anyone interested in a Hyundai to visit the dealership. They have answered all my many, many questions via telephone calls and email ">while I was still in the decision making mode.

So far I am very, very excited about our new purchase and look forward to many many years with this car. :)

working with a salesman here in austin, tx and wanted to make sure we were getting a good deal. we are looking to purchase a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe SE with the Touring package (third row seating). We've test driven and crawled around in it so we know we want this make/model/package. Touring packages seem rare. There are only two in Texas that have the Bluetooth accessory (which we really like). Here's what we're being offered for one with touring package, bluetooth, mats and cargo net:

    MSRP $27,955
    Invoice $26,480
Dealer Offer: $23,850 ($150 to bring it in from out of town) + TTL (rebates already factored in)

there are two other dealers in town and no one can get their hands on exactly what we want so we don't have an apples to apples price war to be waged here in austin or san antonio (we looked). does that price seem like it's a good deal?

I have had nothing but success with the Hyundai product. I have an 02 Santa Fe that has been nothing short of being bullet proof. I'm at 79,000 miles. I also have an 07 Entourage. I had 1 of the common problems with the first ones made but the dealer has been the best dealer I have had the pleasure of dealing with. Unfortinatlly the dealer is in SIXBURGH!!!! With that being said, this dealer ( Bowers Hyundai) has repaired all of the problems I had with my Entourage, quickly and all covered under warranty. They even drove 2 hrs away and towed my van back, fixed the junction box (common problem with early models) cut front rotors and I had it back 3 days later. NO CHARGE, all under warranty. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, Hyundai or Kia have a great product, you won't be sorry unless you buy from a dealer that has poor customer service and gives you the CAN'T DUPLICATE PROBLEM so there must not be one bull crap. Go into the Honda forum and read about the transmission problem with the Odessey, Pilot and Acura's MDX. Honda says there isn't one, I think the #%&@ is soon to hit the fan.

I don't know how objective my opinion is as I have ordered my very first Hyundai, a Santa Fe, but I looked at Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV. I found both of them to have uncomfortable seats. The Honda did not accelerate well and the headrest was awful. Now, I know Honda is a quality car and I had a Civic for 9 years which gave me good service. However, Hyundai stands behind their cars with the best warranty in the business and I think that by the time my Santa Fe is old enough for me to trade it (probably in 10 years) that the resale value of these vehicles will be at a level with Honda and Toyota. Just my 2 cents....

Looking to buy a car for my wife and she has settled on a new Santa Fe SE AWD with the touring package (wants the 3rd row) and blue tooth.

Curious what others have paid for the Santa Fe at this trim level and with these options.

    Edmunds says:
    MSRP--29,480
    Invoice--27,930
    TMV--27,039

Curious if people are paying less than TMV? I live outside Boston. Any feedback would be most welcome.

    Sincerely,
    Sean

We have a deal on a Santa Fe SE FWD w/Touring and bluetooth, mats and cargo net in Texas for $23,850. It breaks down like this...

    MSRP: $27,955
    Invoice: $26,480
Edmunds TMV: $25,698 (and the dealer is giving it to us for that)
    Rebate: $2000
Charge for bringing it in from out of town: $152
    Total: $23850

Good luck finding one. There is one vehicle in Texas that's an SE/Touring with bluetooth and it's a color we're not crazy about. We've called around and there are very few SE's with Touring. Everyone says it's b/c no one likes the third row. I can't imagine why. My 6'2" husband was comfortable in the third row. He wouldn't want to travel cross country in it but he'll never have to.

    Happy car buying!

    Just FYI -

Arapahoe Hyundai in Denver - the folks I bought mine from a year ago - is advertising '09 Santa Fe LTD's with MSRP of $34,780 for $28,780 before any of the "special" rebates (military, college, owner loyalty). These people were easily $1000 below everyone else a year ago, and probably still are. Bet you could even beat 'em up a little bit more...
  • altostephaltosteph Member Posts: 3
I was recently quoted $26.3 K for an 09 Limited AWD in IL including rebate.
  • sbn5sbn5 Member Posts: 2
That's not OTD though, right? I ended up paying $27,350 OTD for a Willow Gray Limited AWD in Greensboro, NC. Dealer had to get the car from VW. Could have gotten a Silver one a bit cheaper but preferred the Gray one - also dealer said the Gray one had the tow package (not sure what that is).
  • altostephaltosteph Member Posts: 3
No, I haven't purchased yet. Price includes standard Limited AWD options without extras. Includes destination charge but not taxes or title/registration.
  • atipoatipo Member Posts: 2
We've been having a terrible time finding this car. At last, we think we've found an 09 Ltd w/touring package (need the 7 passenger option) with leather seats, AWD, for $31K. My husband hired a broker to find one (cartelligent), but they could only do $30,500 for a car shipped from out of state (we're in CA) and then they couldn't finish the deal (car disappeared??) So, I called all the dealers in our area today Petaluma Hyundai came up with this deal.

Any thoughts? We're starting to feel as though we don't have much negotiating power since the supply has totally dried up.
  • anonymouse2anonymouse2 Member Posts: 17
Your issue is the options you want. I'm not sure, but I do not believe your dealer can simply order a car with the options you want from Hyundai. Hyundai just makes a certain mix of cars with certain options and yours is one of the low supply, high demand option packages. This means you do have less negotiating power unfortunately.
  • cmcjenkincmcjenkin Member Posts: 7
anonymouse2 is correct. Hyundai dealers get an allocation of units - as opposed to a true 'order what you want" process. So if you are looking for something truely specific, as you are, it could be near impossible to find.

Expand your options a little maybe?

I'm interested in purchasing a 09 Santa Fe SE trim with Touring Package. MSRP 26,695 + destination. Invoice is somewhere around $25K. There is currently a 2K rebate. (I am not using Hyundai financing). That brings it to around 23K. How much lower can I get this for right now? Any dealer incentives? I also imagine it will be cheaper in August too? (Would have preferred to get a Veracruz but there is very few on the lots right now because the 09's just began rolling out in May and almost no rebates or incentives).

    TIA!

I picked up my new 09 Santa Fe Limited Touring yesterday. I live in Boston and had to go 60 miles to Manchester, NH to get it. I could only find two dealers in all of New England that had any. I paid $100 over invoice, but they also charged $400 (!) for "documentation". If you want the car, I think you're going to have to pay their price.

I just bought an '09 Santa Fe SE today. I am very happy with it. I took advantage of the Cash for Clunkers program so the deal I got was this:

    -3,500 Clunkers trade in
    -2,000 Hyundai rebate
    -1,100 additional dealer discount
    $21,345 price paid plus tax

    Looking forward to this forum

I missed out on getting a SantaFe Limted w/nav. cause of super high dealer fee's. Does anyone know of good dealers in South or North East. I willing to drive out of state...

Try Jim Hudson Hyundai in Columbia, SC on Greystone Blvd. I bought my Santa Fe Se from them for $21,900. This was prior to the Clunkers for Cash program, too. They are wonderful to work with.

anyone know what the current dealer incentives are for August 2009 for the Santa Fe?

    I want a Santa Fe, no options. MSRP: $ 24,895 Invoice $23,652

Right now there is a 2K rebate. that brings it to $21,652. How much lower can I get this? Thanks.

I bought a base SE in Richmond VA for $20,377 after rebate, before taxes and fees.
So...... I would think you can do MUCH better on a GLS.

I am looking for a SE too (no option added) You bought a brand new 09 SE for 20k????? What rebates were included? Wow, if I can get a SE for just over 20K, i'll definitely get one this weekend.
