I got the $2000.00 rebate. My total taxes and fees came to $1100.00. This made my OTD price 21,477. NEW 2009 SE FWD Floor mats only. This was at West Broad Hyundai in Richmond Virginia.

For the person looking for Lauren, I spoke to her a few days before she purchased her car. Haven't seen her on here since. Hope she's doing well

In early July I put down a $500 deposit on an 09 SF SE with only the floor mats extra. This was a Cash for Clunkers deal. On July 24 I went in and closed the deal.
    Sticker: 25770
    Factory rebate: -2000
    Cash for Clunkers: -4500
    C4C scrap value: -150
Total out the door price (including all taxes and fees): 19863

Limited with options, less rebate for clunker, paid $25k on the road price. (taxes, title, license and assorted fees included) at AJ, AZ. dealer.

thanks for the reply, I have been following this thread for a while, I saw your price quite a while ago and decided to give west broad hyundai a try, they have been pleasant to work with, however, they can't give me any price close to what you got, they said Hyundai changed their incentive policy from June 1st, thus the incentive no longer based on the volume they sell, thus they can't give me that much discount as they gave it to you, so final offer is still a lot higher than what I wanted, I guess I may have to give up

    Thanks for the info.
Have you tried fitzmall? A lot of folks on here recommend them.
  • air2karlair2karl Member Posts: 16
I will try with them, I feel this C4C thing is happening at the worst time for me, all the dealers are so busy with that and they seem to have more leverage with all the C4C sales, 8.35% sales tax is not helping either :cry::cry:

I am in Chicagoland area. MSRP w/ options of cargo tray, cargo net and matts = $25,935 Invoice =$24,635 TMV = $24,420 w/o rebates. Dealer price including rebate = $21,799. Dealer gave an OTD offer of $23,775. Is this decent or could I try for better? Thanks!

Can someone recommend a dealer in the NY/NJ/PA/CT/DE area? I don't mind traveling to get the best price. Thanks!

Towne Hyundai in Denville, NJ routinely provides the lowest price.

Can anyone recommend a Hyundai dealer is south Florida? Most seem to be very unprofessional even by car salesmen standards. Trying to get a fair price on a 2009 Santa Fe Limited.

We are looking to purchase this vehicle with the premium (04) package - power driver's seat, moon roof and homelink. Originally interested in the FWD but they don't have in stock with the premium pkg. Dealer is offering 23,695 plus tax-PA and title. Regretfully no clunker to trade especially since they've just printed more cash for this!! Price seems reasonable but I'm wondering if I can do a little better.
  • carlos1239carlos1239 Member Posts: 2
Got a price of $25,894 from Delray Beach dealer for an 09 Limited. Another dealer says they will beat any price in writing by $1000 plus they have a $250 coupon for looking at their website. That brings it down to $24644 +++. Still $949 higher than your price in PA. Thanks for your input.
  • jayessjayess Member Posts: 59
If you were responding to my post immediately above yours, per your reference to 'price in PA' - my quote was for an SE, you indicate LTD

hi, jayess, would you mind telling me which dealer you went to? do they have a lot of SE AWD in stock? thanks
  • counselor4444counselor4444 Member Posts: 47
I'm a very detail and research oriented person and probably contacted 40 dealerships in NJ/NY/PA/CT/MA/DE/MD area to find the best prices. I gathered all the information I needed, including invoice prices, rebates, and dealer cash before going into the dealerships so they would know up front that I knew all of the price info. I knew exactly what I wanted to pay based on the internet prices we received. We were up front that we were not eligible for the loyalty/college grad/military/cash for clunkers rebates. We also already had our own financing outside of Hyundai.

We began our day at Maxon Hyundai in Union, NJ. We had received a good internet price (MSRP: $25,770, Internet price: $21,5 incl destination) and they had indicated that they had the model we wanted in stock. We arrived and were eventually told that they did not have what we wanted. (even though their email said differently) They tried to sell us a SE AWD that we did not want for invoice minus manuf rebate minus an additional $1500. They told us they could get the less expensive SE FWD we wanted but they would only take the manf rebate off the invoice with no other discounts. We did not have any further with discussions and left.

We next went to Global Auto Mall in Plainfield, NJ. We did not have an internet price from them but had been told this morning that they had what we wanted in stock (even down to the color we wanted). We got there and found out that they had SE FWD but not in the blue color we wanted. They showed us a red SE FWD. We were then told that they could get what we wanted through a dealer locate. I gave the salesman my shtick- i've spoken with 40 dealerships, seen X prices, know about the rebates/dealer cash. He came back with a print out of the exact vehicle we wanted which he would have to get from another dealership and a high price. (I knew this would start "the negotiation game") I gave him a low ball price in return. He came back and told us that they could sell it to us for a little under $21K. He then refused to commit to a number. The head sales manager came over and said to us, i understand you have looked at a lot of dealerships and I do not think you are serious about making a deal so you should go and look elsewhere. (is this guy serious?) Then the head salesman says, we can sell it for 21K. We agreed to take it and then our salesman comes back and says that they won't do it for the blue vehicle they would have to locate and they would only do it for the red SE FWD on the lot (even though the negotiation was only for the dealer locate vehicle) We were pretty angry at this point (1 hr later) and left in a fury.

Outside, I asked my husband to consider the red one on the lot as it was a good price, and we went back and asked to see the red one again. I warned the salesman, if this is one penny over 21K, we will leave and will not come back. He said not to worry it was a done deal and that we were getting an even better deal b/c it had bluetooth (which the blue one did not). We go back inside and he goes to get the contract and comes back and says that the sales manager wants more money for extra options now. We got up and left. We honestly believe that our salesman had no idea this was going to happen and seemed just as angry as us that the sales manager had gone back on what he offered. Be warned: our salesman (Kelvin) was very polite, but the head sales manager was not and deceptive business practices are used. The sales manager changed prices on us twice after committing to the prices offered. I do not recommend buying from them.

We then went to Hackettstown Hyundai in Hackettstown, NJ. Jerry was our salesman. We had received another good internet price from then (21,5) They told me on the phone they had the colors we wanted, and did. No unethical sales practices, no changes of price, only professionalism here. We negotiated the price down from MSRP $25,770 (SE FWD with mats, incl destination charge) to $21,250 plus tax, title, registration, etc. We believe that we got a very good deal. We will pick it up on Mon or Tues and I will post another review then. Yay!

thanks a lot for such detailed report, I have been looking in NY, NJ, PA, MA, CT area for a while and couldn't find the car I want, or once I found one, it is gone the next day, I need one ASAP and hopefully your suggestions will help, thanks again :)
  • counselor4444counselor4444 Member Posts: 47
You are very welcome. Selection is diminishing, so you should do your research now. Definitely try to find the car you want before you go you to visit dealerships. You will not get as good of a deal if you want them to locate one for you. Best deal is when you buy it off the lot (at least in today's experience) I admit, it is "possible" I think for you to maybe find the SE FWD for a bit less then us.... maybe for the 21K flat, but if there are certain colors or options that you also want, you may have to pay a tad more (like we did) I should also mention that on top of the 21,250, we had to pay tax, a 4 year motor vehicle registration fee, and a document fee. (pretty standard I believe) I think the rebate
  • counselor4444counselor4444 Member Posts: 47
    whoops....

I think the rebate....for the Santa Fe will go up by at least $500 in September (just a hunch) but we were worried that none of the lower priced models in certain colors would be left then (esp with the cash for clunkers program going on)

    Congrats on the new Hyundai.
I had a terrible experience at Global too. Those folks are nuts. Would never step in again even if they gave me a free one.
I am looking for a SE/Ltd awd with 3rd row seat. Did you come across any during yr search ? Choices are limited now. Thanks for your help.
  • air2karlair2karl Member Posts: 16
if you don't mind driving to NY, you can check out Suresky & Son, Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Hyundai, they have about a dozen SE/LTD AWD, but they are going fast, they sold about 6 SE AWD in the past two days.

Talking about limited choices, anybody know if the dealers are going to get more Santa Fe in stock or they pretty much just gonna keep what they have now and wait for the 2010, this cash for clunker thing has helped them sell quite a few Santa Fe, so stock is kind of low now in their lot :confuse:
  • counselor4444counselor4444 Member Posts: 47
    Mudra,
Yes, the touring package is hard to come by. We wanted a SE FWD with touring package but could not locate one. So, we had to do without the touring package (we didn't absolutely need it) I found 1 Limited with touring package at Maxon Hyundai. It was there on Saturday. (sorry, I don't remember the color!) Get an internet price and then negotiate below that. They should offer invoice minus rebate minus an additional $1500. Don't let them try to slip in a ridiculous $250 dealership advertising fee. Good Luck!

If someone could help, I'd appreciate this....

Currently, the Hyundai site states $2000 cash back. But then there's that $1.49 gas section which seems to state in-lieu of that, you can get $1,000 + $1,000?
But then there's a blurb where you can add the $1,000 to current rebates?

I'm confused. If I walked in and paid cash today, would I get $2,000 or $3,000 or what off? Thanks so much.

Hyundai warranty is a marketing tool.. it is not all that comprehensive.. it is very, very limited with many exclusions... in that there are 3 levels to buy from Hyundai plus the one offer in the market scheme.

True is it better than nothing. I passed it up. My experience at Hyundai is that lots of stuff was just tacked onto the auto sale just for profit and gravy for the dealership.

That was including the warranty sales pitch. The warranty has more marketing hype than actual meat to it or the additional plans would not be offered.

    I'm looking for a 2009 Santa Fe Limited AWD w/ 3rd row in black/tan or silver/black.

How much should I be paying OTD? What's the story on $1.49 gas offer? You can waive the offer for an additional $1000 rebate. Has anyone taken up that offer?

Any recommendations on dealerships in the bay area?
  • sfdood38sfdood38 Member Posts: 2
Hi atipo-Did you find the car you're looking for? I'm in the bay area and it seems like people in other parts of the country are having much better luck with cars and offers. I'm looking for the same car (Limited AWD with 3rd row) in either black/tan or silver/black. Let me know how your searching is coming along.
  • counselor4444counselor4444 Member Posts: 47
    LisaD,
You get EITHER the $2K off OR $1K off plus the $1.49 a gallon gas. We went to a lot of dealerships and they don't even bother offering the $1.49 gas to you because everyone wants the 2K off up front.
  • LisaDLisaD Member Posts: 50
Counselor - Thanks so much for clarifying. I've gotten differing answers elsewhere but there are more of "$2000 is the max" responses. Dang. Thank you.
  • momof3girlzmomof3girlz Member Posts: 6
I found one of these and we've got the out the door price at $25950. I'm wondering whether this is a good price or not in this climate. I've got the C4C thing (sorry it's the only thing I can do with my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd AWD V8 worth about $2500 in trade).

Also, what is the deal with the warranty? The dealer hasn't mentioned any warranty programs and I'm getting cold feet already reading about warranty issues and how the warranty isn't really comprehensive. I bought a used Saturn SL2 about 15 years ago with an "extended warranty" that wasn't worth the paper it was printed on so I'm a little gun-shy.

Also, I'm probably old school, but I still remember the days of the $500 beater car and cars that didn't cost as much as a year in college. Please tell me I'm not making a mistake.

    Thanks in advance.

I've been paying attention to the ads on tv lately and I caught one this evening that specifically said $2K + the $1.49 gas freeze deal.

    Just thought I'd mention this...

Did anyone save any advertising or the web page that shows the $2000 July rebate for the 09 Santa Fe?

I ask because I emailed Hyundai and asked if the Gas Lock promotion was in addition to the regular rebate. They replied that it was. In other words $1000 rebate plus $1000 for Gas Lock = $2000. But I'm sure that the July rebate was $2000 not $1000. I just don't have any specific proof of that. Can anyone help?
  • counselor4444counselor4444 Member Posts: 47
    Azi,
I'm sorry to disappoint you but the rebate for the Santa Fe was the same for July and August. $1K + either the Gas Lock or another $1K. Total= 2K.

I expect it will be slightly better (maybe another $500) in September.

But right on Hyundai's Special Offers page for this month it says "Santa Fe All Trims $2000". Said the same thing last month.

    momof3girlz,

Can you give specifics of your OTD price?
MSRP, Sale Price (Before C4C), etc.
    Thanks in advance!

But right on Hyundai's Special Offers page for this month it says "Santa Fe All Trims $2000".

Correct. But if you click on the link about the gas offer and click on the Santa Fe, you'll see that the rebate drops to $1000 + the $1.49/gal offer.

    http://www.hyundaiusa.com/financing/specialoffers/gaslock/offers.aspx

Here are the FAQs on the program.

    http://www.hyundaiusa.com/financing/specialoffers/gaslock/faq.aspx

Also, here are the gallon limits for each eligible Hyundai:

*ALL NEW 2009 HYUNDAI’S MODELS (EXCLUDES BASE MODEL ACCENT #15313, GENESIS, GENESIS COUPE AND ENTOURAGE). For one year, you pay $1.49 per gallon of gas. HMA pays difference between actual gas price at pump and $1.49. Gallons limited to 2009: Accent 415, Sonata 4cyl 480,Sonata V6 545, Elantra 430, Santa Fe AWD 635, Santa Fe FWD 600, Azera 3.3L 570, Azera 3.8L 600, Tucson 4cyl 545, Tucson V6 600, Veracruz 670, Elantra Touring 465 - No cash refund for gas not purchased below maximum gallon limit. At participating gas stations. Limitations and conditions apply. Ends 8/31/09.

IMO, the full rebate is the better deal. ;)
  • LisaDLisaD Member Posts: 50
It's $2,000 off total. However way you want to do take it - it's still $2,000 and no more.
  • momof3girlzmomof3girlz Member Posts: 6
    Dmbfn41,

Unfortunately, the deal I have is on a marked up contract without all the details. I can tell you that the original price she showed me - which I'm assuming is MSRP - was $34855. She showed me the invoice price was $32K (I've forgotten the exact number) because I said something about the invoice price being about $29K.

The price they originally quoted me was $29399 plus tax/tags/freight/clunker. When I said that was too much she brought over an older man who asked what it would take to get the car sold. I said $24K or $25K at the most - ball park off the top of my head and stupid I know. I've looked at the Hyundai pricing on Hyundai's site, Edmunds and Kelly enough that I thought that wasn't too bad. I also took a printout with me from Kelly that showed the True Market price as $32,354 with all the options.

I just want to make sure I'm not doing the wrong thing. Also, I saw something about different warranty packages... what is that?

    Thanks,

    M

I did - in the previous post:

I'm assuming the MSRP was $34855.

Invoice price was a little over $32K - I don't remember the exact figure.

Kelly True Market price is $32,354 with all the options.

    OTD price is $25950.

    Thanks,

    tenpin,

I guess you're right. In all my clicking around, reading footnotes and such I never actually got to that page that showed $1000. Any I was hoping to convince them to send me $1000 ;)

I agree that the $2000 is a better deal.

    Hi,

I am new here, and I am planning to buy a Santa Fe SE with 3rd row seating.

I am wondering whether it is wise to wait until 2010 models start coming in before buying a 2009 one. One of the considerations might be that the rebate and $1.49 gas discount will end after August; and according to most of the dealers 2010 models will be introduced near the end of September.

Should I wait or buy now (in August)?
  • LisaDLisaD Member Posts: 50
  • counselor4444counselor4444 Member Posts: 47
Sorry chngng77, but I believe beginning in 2010 the Santa Fe will not be available with third row seating. If you want a third row you will have to buy a Veracruz. Even if you considered buying a 2009 Santa Fe with third row, it will be nearly impossible to find one now with the third row because so few were made and selection is low now. Good luck.
  • coolbobsfamcoolbobsfam Member Posts: 1
The 2010's will not have 3rd row seating as an option. If you want the 3rd row get a 2009 now.... they're running low on stock.
  • LisaDLisaD Member Posts: 50
It's my understanding the 3rd row will be offered for 2010

Been calling and driving all over town this week looking at cars and haggling with dealers. Was originally looking at the Hyundai Tucson, but liked the size and options on the Santa Fe better. Compared it to the CRV, Rav4, Kia Sportage, and Subaru Forester. Liked the Santa Fe best of all.

Salesman at Dave Menegay Hyundai in Rainbow City, Alabama (about an hour outside our home of Birmingham) really worked hard and got us what I think is a great deal.

We wanted a black GLS, grey interior, with the Premium Package, to get the heated seats, sunroof, and steering wheel audio controls. Ended up with a vehicle with that package, as well as the bluetooth hookup and the silly first aid kit.

Edmunds TMV on a Santa Fe with this configuration is $24,840. Dealer beat the TMV price by $200. Here's the breakdown:

    Sale price: $24,604.06
    Doc fee: $389.00
    Sales tax: $687.31
    Title fee: $16.50
    ------------------
    Price before rebate: $25,696.87
    After $2000 Hyundai rebate: $23,696.87

I wanted to get out the door under $24K, so I'm pretty pleased with this. Other, more conveniently-located dealers here in Birmingham couldn't get me below $24,500 out the door for a black Santa Fe.

The 2-hour round trip drive to Rainbow City saved us about $800, and I think that's a pretty good tradeoff.

Questions? Ask away, especially if you're local to Birmingham.

Got a price quote from a neighboring dealer and went to the dealer closest to my house. They offered me this

    Sante Fe SE AWD
    MSRP 28,100
    25,000 sale price
Includes mud guards, blue tooth, cargo tray, cargo net, wheel lock

    NY Tax 8.875
    DMV around 190
    Doc Fee 45

    Minus 2,000 incentive

    OTD price 25,466

Is this a fair deal?? Looked on edmunds and seems good.
    Also got in white .
