For the person looking for Lauren, I spoke to her a few days before she purchased her car. Haven't seen her on here since. Hope she's doing well

Have you tried fitzmall? A lot of folks on here recommend them.
We began our day at Maxon Hyundai in Union, NJ. We had received a good internet price (MSRP: $25,770, Internet price: $21,5 incl destination) and they had indicated that they had the model we wanted in stock. We arrived and were eventually told that they did not have what we wanted. (even though their email said differently) They tried to sell us a SE AWD that we did not want for invoice minus manuf rebate minus an additional $1500. They told us they could get the less expensive SE FWD we wanted but they would only take the manf rebate off the invoice with no other discounts. We did not have any further with discussions and left.
We next went to Global Auto Mall in Plainfield, NJ. We did not have an internet price from them but had been told this morning that they had what we wanted in stock (even down to the color we wanted). We got there and found out that they had SE FWD but not in the blue color we wanted. They showed us a red SE FWD. We were then told that they could get what we wanted through a dealer locate. I gave the salesman my shtick- i've spoken with 40 dealerships, seen X prices, know about the rebates/dealer cash. He came back with a print out of the exact vehicle we wanted which he would have to get from another dealership and a high price. (I knew this would start "the negotiation game") I gave him a low ball price in return. He came back and told us that they could sell it to us for a little under $21K. He then refused to commit to a number. The head sales manager came over and said to us, i understand you have looked at a lot of dealerships and I do not think you are serious about making a deal so you should go and look elsewhere. (is this guy serious?) Then the head salesman says, we can sell it for 21K. We agreed to take it and then our salesman comes back and says that they won't do it for the blue vehicle they would have to locate and they would only do it for the red SE FWD on the lot (even though the negotiation was only for the dealer locate vehicle) We were pretty angry at this point (1 hr later) and left in a fury.
Outside, I asked my husband to consider the red one on the lot as it was a good price, and we went back and asked to see the red one again. I warned the salesman, if this is one penny over 21K, we will leave and will not come back. He said not to worry it was a done deal and that we were getting an even better deal b/c it had bluetooth (which the blue one did not). We go back inside and he goes to get the contract and comes back and says that the sales manager wants more money for extra options now. We got up and left. We honestly believe that our salesman had no idea this was going to happen and seemed just as angry as us that the sales manager had gone back on what he offered. Be warned: our salesman (Kelvin) was very polite, but the head sales manager was not and deceptive business practices are used. The sales manager changed prices on us twice after committing to the prices offered. I do not recommend buying from them.
We then went to Hackettstown Hyundai in Hackettstown, NJ. Jerry was our salesman. We had received another good internet price from then (21,5) They told me on the phone they had the colors we wanted, and did. No unethical sales practices, no changes of price, only professionalism here. We negotiated the price down from MSRP $25,770 (SE FWD with mats, incl destination charge) to $21,250 plus tax, title, registration, etc. We believe that we got a very good deal. We will pick it up on Mon or Tues and I will post another review then. Yay!
I think the rebate....for the Santa Fe will go up by at least $500 in September (just a hunch) but we were worried that none of the lower priced models in certain colors would be left then (esp with the cash for clunkers program going on)
I had a terrible experience at Global too. Those folks are nuts. Would never step in again even if they gave me a free one.
I am looking for a SE/Ltd awd with 3rd row seat. Did you come across any during yr search ? Choices are limited now. Thanks for your help.
Talking about limited choices, anybody know if the dealers are going to get more Santa Fe in stock or they pretty much just gonna keep what they have now and wait for the 2010, this cash for clunker thing has helped them sell quite a few Santa Fe, so stock is kind of low now in their lot :confuse:
Yes, the touring package is hard to come by. We wanted a SE FWD with touring package but could not locate one. So, we had to do without the touring package (we didn't absolutely need it) I found 1 Limited with touring package at Maxon Hyundai. It was there on Saturday. (sorry, I don't remember the color!) Get an internet price and then negotiate below that. They should offer invoice minus rebate minus an additional $1500. Don't let them try to slip in a ridiculous $250 dealership advertising fee. Good Luck!
Currently, the Hyundai site states $2000 cash back. But then there's that $1.49 gas section which seems to state in-lieu of that, you can get $1,000 + $1,000?
But then there's a blurb where you can add the $1,000 to current rebates?
I'm confused. If I walked in and paid cash today, would I get $2,000 or $3,000 or what off? Thanks so much.
True is it better than nothing. I passed it up. My experience at Hyundai is that lots of stuff was just tacked onto the auto sale just for profit and gravy for the dealership.
That was including the warranty sales pitch. The warranty has more marketing hype than actual meat to it or the additional plans would not be offered.

How much should I be paying OTD? What's the story on $1.49 gas offer? You can waive the offer for an additional $1000 rebate. Has anyone taken up that offer?
Any recommendations on dealerships in the bay area?
You get EITHER the $2K off OR $1K off plus the $1.49 a gallon gas. We went to a lot of dealerships and they don't even bother offering the $1.49 gas to you because everyone wants the 2K off up front.
Also, what is the deal with the warranty? The dealer hasn't mentioned any warranty programs and I'm getting cold feet already reading about warranty issues and how the warranty isn't really comprehensive. I bought a used Saturn SL2 about 15 years ago with an "extended warranty" that wasn't worth the paper it was printed on so I'm a little gun-shy.
Also, I'm probably old school, but I still remember the days of the $500 beater car and cars that didn't cost as much as a year in college. Please tell me I'm not making a mistake.
Thanks in advance.
Just thought I'd mention this...
I ask because I emailed Hyundai and asked if the Gas Lock promotion was in addition to the regular rebate. They replied that it was. In other words $1000 rebate plus $1000 for Gas Lock = $2000. But I'm sure that the July rebate was $2000 not $1000. I just don't have any specific proof of that. Can anyone help?
I'm sorry to disappoint you but the rebate for the Santa Fe was the same for July and August. $1K + either the Gas Lock or another $1K. Total= 2K.
I expect it will be slightly better (maybe another $500) in September.
Can you give specifics of your OTD price?
MSRP, Sale Price (Before C4C), etc.
Thanks in advance!
Correct. But if you click on the link about the gas offer and click on the Santa Fe, you'll see that the rebate drops to $1000 + the $1.49/gal offer.

IMO, the full rebate is the better deal.
Unfortunately, the deal I have is on a marked up contract without all the details. I can tell you that the original price she showed me - which I'm assuming is MSRP - was $34855. She showed me the invoice price was $32K (I've forgotten the exact number) because I said something about the invoice price being about $29K.
The price they originally quoted me was $29399 plus tax/tags/freight/clunker. When I said that was too much she brought over an older man who asked what it would take to get the car sold. I said $24K or $25K at the most - ball park off the top of my head and stupid I know. I've looked at the Hyundai pricing on Hyundai's site, Edmunds and Kelly enough that I thought that wasn't too bad. I also took a printout with me from Kelly that showed the True Market price as $32,354 with all the options.
I just want to make sure I'm not doing the wrong thing. Also, I saw something about different warranty packages... what is that?
Thanks,
M
I'm assuming the MSRP was $34855.
Invoice price was a little over $32K - I don't remember the exact figure.
Kelly True Market price is $32,354 with all the options.
OTD price is $25950.
Thanks,
M
I guess you're right. In all my clicking around, reading footnotes and such I never actually got to that page that showed $1000. Any I was hoping to convince them to send me $1000
I agree that the $2000 is a better deal.
I am new here, and I am planning to buy a Santa Fe SE with 3rd row seating.
I am wondering whether it is wise to wait until 2010 models start coming in before buying a 2009 one. One of the considerations might be that the rebate and $1.49 gas discount will end after August; and according to most of the dealers 2010 models will be introduced near the end of September.
Should I wait or buy now (in August)?

Salesman at Dave Menegay Hyundai in Rainbow City, Alabama (about an hour outside our home of Birmingham) really worked hard and got us what I think is a great deal.
We wanted a black GLS, grey interior, with the Premium Package, to get the heated seats, sunroof, and steering wheel audio controls. Ended up with a vehicle with that package, as well as the bluetooth hookup and the silly first aid kit.
Edmunds TMV on a Santa Fe with this configuration is $24,840. Dealer beat the TMV price by $200. Here's the breakdown:
Sale price: $24,604.06
Doc fee: $389.00
Sales tax: $687.31
Title fee: $16.50
------------------
Price before rebate: $25,696.87
After $2000 Hyundai rebate: $23,696.87
I wanted to get out the door under $24K, so I'm pretty pleased with this. Other, more conveniently-located dealers here in Birmingham couldn't get me below $24,500 out the door for a black Santa Fe.
The 2-hour round trip drive to Rainbow City saved us about $800, and I think that's a pretty good tradeoff.
Questions? Ask away, especially if you're local to Birmingham.
