it all depends on what kind of off roading you are going to do and how big a void you are looking for. personally i prefer the BFG line. I currently have the AT and they are great. BFG is one of the most popular brands that people run there must be areason for it. Also look at the yokohama geolander and the procomp explorer(fairly new to tires). Look in 4 wheel magazines for other options.
BFG AT's are a good choice for performance/cost if you use your truck off road. I have the Yoko Geolamders on my SUV and they are grippy and quiet. The favorite AT tire that I have ever owned is the Mickey Thompson Baja MTX. Great snow/trail traction, not too noisy on the highway when inflated towards the upper end, great LT look, but alot of ching. If you got it though...
I have a 98 Dakota Sport and am currently looking for a Tonneau cover. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Also, what about a good post-market sound system upgrade? Thanx
I have had a bed liner (slide in type on three pick ups now ever since 1991. I have mounted the same fifth wheel pedistal on all 3 liners and thus far have had no problema at all.The same pedistal is going over a slide in liner on my 2001 Silverado when it gets here. Ken-o
get the badges (emblems), off as soon as possible. the longer you wait the more of a imprint will be left in the paint. Get a handful of old rags, some light test nylon fishing line and some WD40. Be prepared to take an hour or more and do it slowly. Staturate from the top of the badge and using both hands pull the line behind the badge. it comes off real easy, but will leave some adhesive residue. Use more WD40 and pick it off, you can use Goo Off but it gets messy, or you can use an eraser type buffing wheel.
Had a 99 then an identical 00 Silverado 5.3 ext cab and used a Line-x in the both of them, great stuff. The 00 has a Roll n Lock cover over the Line-X because of the tools and gear that has to be concealed.
Will be using the Ultra Boards on the 00. On Fri 10/6 the running boards will be installed by a body shop. Having a hell of a time trying to get an accessory shop to put them on. Some drilling required and a lot of brackets that will put an erector set to shame. But they are what the wife wanted, since she catches hell getting in and out of the Blue Beast.
I had to have a tool box custom made for this truck and i would like to know if anyone knows about some special seatcovers that will protect the fabric and also what to install to smooth out the ride in this bucking bronco lol, thanks
Can anyone comment on installation of a 3 piece bug shield, nerf bars, and splashguards on a Ram1500 Quad-cab? I'd like to do it myself and save the $$. Also, any comments on "Driver's Design" bugshields, Downey SST tonneau covers, Husky mud flaps, Westin black nerf bars, or Penaliner SR bed liners? I guess that you can figure out what accessories I'm looking at! Thanks.
I had them installed by rhinolinings when they put my bed liner in before i actually purchased the truck. All went through the dealership. Gave me a great price too.
I installed the mud flaps (easy but rear wheels had to be removed) and the tail light guards very easy too only 1 hole to drill. If i did the nerf bars i wouldnt have got them done for awhile i only did it by the shop to save time.
Hi Guys and gals.I am sure that this topic has been addressed before but am tired of searching all of the posts.....Please advise me about Flowmaster pros and cons on my 2000 f 150 xlt 5.4ltr truck. Will this have a big effect on milage and performance of this rig? What price range am I looking at? What is the life of these setups? Please advise me with all of the great expertise on this site, on how I should go about setting up my new rig. Thanks in advance for your input on this repeat post! I value the vast knowledge of this site! Mark (Fishnwiz)
Hello, I'm considering buying a 1998 Explorer XLT and have heard that aftermarket third row seats are available. Any idea where I can find them and how much they cost? Thanks!
Hello, I have just ordered a 2001 Silverado 1500 LS. One of the dealer installed options is an under the rail bedliner. Yes, I have read the postings on bedliners VS sprayed in liners and for my application I have decided on an under the rail bedliner. Now, the dealer told me that he can put in heavy duty liner made by GM for $249 (installed) which will really hold up to wood being thrown into the truck. Or, he can put a lighter bedliner into the truck for $149 (installed)which he claimed would not hold up as well in protecting the bed from getting dented by fire wood. What do you think? If you know of a place where I can it cheaper, let me know. BTW, I do plan on hauling wood with the truck so the heavy duty liner appeals to me.
Chet, In one of my trucks I had the "FORD" brand, made by duraliner. In the another I had the duraliner brand. I am assuming that this is true for the GM version also. The only difference between the two was the brand logo and about $100. The thicknesses were the same and the parts guy at the dealer said that they were the same. Installation was the parts guy and I dropped the liner into place. (Later I did the complete attachment. In a white shirt and my wife was amazed that the shirt didn't get dirty.)
Save your money unless you can't stand to have the duraliner logo on your truck!
BTW Usually all you have to do is ask the parts guy for a deal and they'll discount the parts.
Can you give details on the box you had made for your 2001CC. I am considering having one made that will fit inside the wheel wells up against the cab. Or it can be moved to the space inside the bed extender with the gate up. This would allow easy access from the back of the truck. It would be about 17x17x40. I have the Nissan water resistant seat covers. they look and fit great, not cheap though. BTW my truck is an automatic, but rides like a caddy compared to my saturn.
4x2 lifts are becoming more popular than ever. I think most people just want the look and extra ground clearance for all the no snow or mud bajaing that we all love to do. Check out Truckin' Magazine at you newsstand. Or do a search for a company called Fabtech. I have seen tons of lift kits. They usually consist of front spindles and coils springs, and rear spacer blocks. Easy for the do-it-yourselfer. Good Luck.
Response to Fabtech. Excellent choice. Mfg. located less than a mile from my shop. Am friends with the owner. Good guy, great products. Dave actually races with his own products. No wimpy poser crap that bends or breaks. Lifts that actually work. I have other friends in with other businesses that I would NOT promote. Fabtech is top notch. Later.
I was thinking about getting a set of the Dee Zee alum caps in black powder coat finish. Has anyone used or seen these and if so how well do they hold up? Do they scratch easily?
I need running boards for a crew cab 2001 GMC 2500HD shortbed. Preferably body colored and preferably withthe matching pice to extend along the front of the bed backk to the rear wheel well. Second choice would be the flat black OEM style similar to what goes on SUburbans and the big SUVs. SO faar I haven't found any with the bracketry to fit the new trucks. Suggestions?
Also, can anyone tell me if the Advance folding bed cover locks to and secures the tailgate...or does it need an accessory lock for the gate like Pop Lock? I emailed this question twice to Advance but haven't heard back. Right now I'm waivering between Roll and Lock (I like the look) and Advance (I like the price and the fact that it doesn't have a can hanging down inside the bed taking up hauling space)but if I have to buy a seperate lock for the gate and look at a less attractive cover I'll prbably go with Roll and Lock. Agains, SUGESTIONS????
for the flat black running boards. I got the Black Guardians for my Silverado x-cab and am quite pleased. They had both the cab and bed boards. I don't know if they have them for the crew cab but I would imagine all they needed to do was change the length of the extrusion. These boards are black anodized aluminum with plastic trim. You can use a round end cap or built in mud flap in the front. Also, you can have the plastic trim painted to color match your truck.
because the width of your photo was throwing off the margins on this page. When this happens, it makes it difficult for other members to read the messages, because they then have to scroll from side to side to read the complete line. Hope you understand.
So people can see your photo, I'm going to copy/pasted your message in the next post, along with a direct link (url) to your photo. Another option would be for you to repost a smaller photo. Okay?
Btw, you may also want to post your picture in our "Truck pictures" or the "Showcase your vehicle at Town Hall" discussions. We're being a lot more flexible with photo size in those discussions, since it's mostly pics there with very few messages to read.
Thanks for the info. I run 1600x1200 here at work, so OF COURSE it looks OK to me! Just for future reference, what would be the maximum dimensions for an embedded photo?
Anyone in the snow/road salt areas of the country having any problems with the Westin chrome-plated stainless bars? How about Back Contry stainless nerf bars...anyone use them? I'm getting ready to buy a set and trying to decide which way to go. Thanks
Does anybody else have any experience with Lucerix products? It appears that they do quite a bit of business in the Class A and commercial-truck markets.
Can anyone tell me if there is a slide in light weight overcab camper that would fit a new ranger extended cab 4x4 with a six foot bed? thank you, George.
If you post your question in the "Cabover Campers & Camper Trailers" discussion here on Edmunds, or in the "Travel By Road" chat forum (http://www.travelbyroad.net/hcbbs/), you'll be far more likely to find somebody who can answer your question.
Does anyone know the reasoning behind the xtreme not be able to be used for towing. I'm in the process of buying a jet ski (>1000lbs) and I know it would be more than capable. The problem is i'm stuck in a lease for the next 2 years, any suggestions?? thanks
Civic can tow a 1000 pounds. If GM says the Xtreme can't be used for towing I'd suspect it's because of the unique body panels and they don't have a hitch set-up to work with them. -- Don
Just my opinion Silveradobob - Westin CPS is an exceptional product & I highly recommend them my customers - Westin currently has a $35.00 rebate towards purchase of CPS nerf bars. Also a good warranty if you had a problem down the road. Just keep your receipt/warranty card. Not familiar with the other product you mentioned. Good luck...
If your dealer doesn't throw it in on the deal. You should not pay over $150.00 for a GM bedliner. Sometimes the dealer will try to intall another brand - just insist on a GM product. Remember it is a part item in there system. My sell price at my shop is $170.00 for an aftermarket liner. If I was to purchase a new GM truck I would prefer the GM liner.
I'm looking to enhance the look of our new 2001 4X4 Taco with either a Safari Light bar (usually characterized as a tubular bar that is bolted under the front end but doesn't extend up past the bottom of the grille) or a Grille Guard (one that just covers the center grille).
Any suggestions on brands and prices? Not really interested in the Euro ones that cover both the grill and the headlights. Just the grille.
I'm looking at purchasing a hinged soft tonneau cover for my 2001 QC SLT in the next week. I have looked at the Extang, Downey, Saddleman and a few others. I do not want or need a hard or roll top. Any information good or bad is looked for and also information on low priced dealers in northern Delaware or on the web would be great.
I am looking at getting a spray-in bedliner, I just wanted to see what other peoples opinions are. I am strongly considering a Speedliner. Wanted to see if anyone has any experience with them. My other possibility is a Line-X. I am leaning a little more to the Speedliner as it's got a higher strength, but with a little more grip than the Line-X.
Rhino is out as the dealer would like to drill holes in the bed for drains.
Has anyone here had any personal experiences with the Speedliner. I can get a better price than Line-x, and from what I have read on other boards people that have had experience with both actually prefer the Speedliner.

Thanks for the response. Nice truck! It looks sharp. Seeing that set-up is helping to push me that way.
Would you recommend installation by a shop?
