Looking to lease a 435 or maybe m4. Special scenario: don't have cash to buy the car now but would have it within 2 years (starting new job). Does it make sense to do a 24mo - 10K lease and then purchase at lease end. I would probably keep the car for another 3 years or so after that. Is this a crazy idea?

BMW FS residuals aren't based in reality and generally very high at lease end. I've heard BMW FS will sometimes negotiate at lease end to bring the price of the car in line with market value. Just depends on the scenario

Hi, can you confirm what the residual for a 428i xdrive 36 mo, 10k/yr lease is in July? June was 63%, correct? Any change? Thank you!

.00130 MF and 63% residual for the 2014 428 xDrive Coupe... $1000 build out cash.

What do you think about these numbers from North Jersey dealer. 435xi msrp 59000 selling price 53000. Lease with nothing down just first month payment $678. 12k for 36 months. Selling price included all incentives.

With just the $725 acquisition fee added to the selling price, the payment would be $593/mo+tax. I'm sure you have other costs included... $400 registration, $300 dealer fee, $1500 tax?

Add in $2200 more, and the payment is $657/mo.

Let's ask moderator about these lease numbers. MSRP 55200. Agreed upon price 48400. 10K for 36 months. Title, license and registration fee 315. Acquisition fee 749. Supp title fee 199. Tire & rec/Doc fee/Dealer fee 475. Taxes 1339. Monthly payment comes to 585. MSDs also applied to lower money factor. Nothing down except 4200 MSD plus first month. What do you think? This is from western NJ BMW dealer for 2014 435xi

    When I add your $3077 in charges to the $48,400 selling price, .00081 MF (.00130 - .00049 for 7 MSDs), 63% residual, I get a payment of around $534/mo.

I'd want to know what money factor they are using...

Get a cheap lease on a cheaper car now... Buy an M4 when you can afford it, and qualify for it.

I agree with your first sentence.. but, the days of negotiating the residual have passed. Before they will cut the price for the lessee, they'll just sell it to one of their dealers for a lower price.

Yeah... looks like they marked up the base money factor before applying the MSDs (assuming you are making 7 MSDs?) If you only made 4 MSDs, then .00102 is correct.

Been watching this forum for a long time and am deciding if I should pull the trigger on this deal. I know that south florida has high dealer fees but let me know if this makes sense and if it is a good deal.

MSRP: $42,400 (base care plus drivers assistance package)
    Sell Price: $39,823.00
    Rebate: $1,000.00
    Sell Price: $39,823.00
    Total Cap Reduction: $1,000.00
    Acquisition: $925.00
    Adjusted Cap Reduction: $39,748.00
    Tag, Title: $182.00
    Dealer fees: 855.45

    Total due at start: $1,659.25
    Monthly: $459.74
    Monthly Tax: $32.18

    Thanks for your help!

    I'm going to assume this is a 36mo, 12K/yr lease on a 428i Coupe.

If I use the base MF of .00130 and residual of 62%, I get your pre-tax payment, exactly.

That said, I see some issues... Your selling price is about 6% off MSRP, before accounting for the rebate... That's not too bad, if they weren't adding an $855 dealer fee. Also, the acquisition fee is marked up by $200. It's okay that Florida dealers add exorbitant dealer fees, if the price is low enough to compensate for it.... but, here.. it's not..

To make up for the fee and the marked up acquisition fee, I'd want another $1000 off the selling price. That would knock $29/mo. off the pre-tax payment.. That would be my goal.. I might settle for $700 or so, less..

It is a 36mo & 12K lease. The Money Factor and Residual Value are right on point.

Funny thing is that the finance guy said they are only making $128 on the deal. LOL.

Would appreciate some help. Haven't gone in to negotiate yet with local dealers (NJ). What I have so far: 36 month, 10K, BWM 428xdrive coupe.
MSRP is 50,000, negotiated price so far is 44,865. I'm not going to put anything down and want to roll it all (taxes etc.. ) into payments. Here's what I've come up with- $371 base plus $32 tax, and $56 interest, for a total payment of $460 per month. Did I calculate this correctly and does it look like a good lease deal? Oh - just wanted to add that I live in NYC, but I will likely lease in NJ.

The base MF is .00130 and the RV is 63% for 36/10. Using your numbers, I get a pre-tax payment of $470.52 ($371 depreciation and $99 interest).

NJ calculates the sales tax for the entire lease up front and adds it to the cap cost - or, you can pay it as part of the initial out of pocket.

There are other fees you need to account for - acq fee of $795, dealer fee of $300-400, an a couple others that escape me at the moment.

I'd like to present an offer to local dealers for a 435i. Can you tell me what would be a "good" deal on this vehicle for 36-month lease, 10,000/year mileage? (Not looking for best deal possible that might require driving out of state to the one dealer that would do it, but rather a very good deal that I should be able to get at one of the dealerships in the metroplex.)

    Here's a representative car:
    http://www.classicbmw.com/new/BMW/2014-BMW-435i-1f36d5b40a0a000247e11309f640cfa0.htm

Considering a 435i coupe equipped in the $55-57K MSRP range.

Would love to know what you think I could get the final sales price to, as well as acquisition and dealer fees I should expect, and final monthly payment.

    Thanks in advance!!

Nice 10% discount off the MSRP !!!

    What's the tax rate?
Down here in Fl it's 6.5%
With Fl numbers your looking at 501 (371 base + 99 interest + 31 tax). I'm sure tax is higher up there? Then between acquisition fee, dealer, fees, etc - figure another 1500-2000. If you roll them in, add another 50 or so per month.
If your going true sign and drive, I would think 550-560 range is the norm.

If you lease based on the advertisement of bmw? would this be a good deal?

    for example: http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/Vehicles/2015/4/435iconvertible/OfferDetail.aspx?NAModelCode=144K&OfferType=2&regiontypeid=4

  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 237,046

The advertised lease assumes a dealer discount of $1000 from MSRP, in addition to the $1000 of buildout cash from BMW... That's not much of a discount.. Invoice is about $4K under MSRP... so, that gives you another $3000 to play with... I'd think with some shopping around, you might be able to knock another $2000 off their selling price. So, instead of $4274 due at signing, shoot for $2000- $2500 due at signing, with the rest of the terms the same...

Don't forget about tax, title and registration...

I am looking for some help with a 2014 428i lease.
These are the numbers I was given:

Monthly pmt = $435 (including tax)
    Lease Term: 36 months
    Miles Per year: 10K
    MSRP: $45,025
    MF: 0.0013
    Residual: $28,365.75
Total drive off: 3,000 (including 1st payment)

Please let me know if this is a good deal or if I should keep talking to other dealers, and also if the MSD would be worth looking into for this case!

    Thanks in advance!

I, too, would like to see a breakdown of the $3000.

MSD's can be used to lower your MF down to .00081 (if max 7 are applied).

Ok lots of assumptions without those details but lets assume:
1k of the 3k is actually going towards the car - rest in fees
    taxes at 6.5

If those assumptions are close and your getting a 435 payment, your getting the car for around $41,000.
If that's the case, your getting 9% off which is pretty good.

    $3000 down breakdown

$912.40 is towards inception fees which includes first month payment and registration and dealer fees.
$1915.23 is down payment towards the car which is what minimizes your monthly payment.
$172.37 is tax on the down payment.

So with the new numbers and 6.5% tax, your getting the car for 41800 to get at 435 tax in. That's 7% off MSRP. Still pretty good.

MSD's are always a positive if your willing to go that route.

If not try getting another $500 off but looks pretty legit.
Are you ordering or is it on the lot? On the lot, maybe go for $1,000 off but that might be pushing it.

    Enjoy

    Hi -

I'm looking at a 2015 435i Grand Coupe. It's basically loaded with a MSRP of $65,600. They are only offering me $500 off since it's a hot car and $1k from the manufacturer because I did their 4 series event. I have bought a car at this dealer previously, btw, and feel they should throw me a little bit more of a bone. No? Anyway, total amount including $398.95 of aftermarkets (window tint, nitrogen, whatever) is $64,498.95 not including taxes which are 3% on cars in North Carolina.

The lease seems a little off, particularly money factor.

Residual is 62% for 12k miles ($40,672). They told me payment (without taxes) is $902.13 for 36mo/12k miles and only putting $1,500 down toward first months payment & whatever fees. $929.19 including taxes.

He said the MF was .002, but I'm having trouble calculating it. It should be more like .0013, right?

Base MF for the 2015 435i Gran Coupe is indeed .00130, so the dealer is trying to make a bit of extra profit off of you. Residaul for 36/12 is 62%. Using your MSRP and selling price, I calculate a pre-tax payment of $798.58.

I'd say there is quite a bit of room to negotiate.

I don't know whether or not to believe those guys when they say things like that.

And remember, a dealer won't do something that doesn't make sense for them.

It's doesn't matter what you believe; what they make on the deal is not important. What matters is that you walk away comfortable with the deal you negotiated.

When I did my deal, they were more concerned about selling me a car I wasn't truly content with solely because it was there in their lot now. They were willing to work with me, but I had to make compromise in order to meet them where they wanted me.

They could have given me a better deal.

They tried to tell me that salesmen make $50/pop off of deals and are paid majorly in $4k bonuses for selling 20 cars monthly.

Then they said car sales does a fraction of the business service does and the main purpose of car sales is to get more cars on the road (even if it happens at a slight loss sometimes) as the money will be made back in servicing said vehicles.

Using your MSRP and selling price with the 33/10 residual of 66% and base MF of .00130, I get a pre-tax payment of $587.70. So, looks like the MF may be inflated by the dealer for a bit of extra profit.

Certainly room to bring the payment down.

Make sure that the $53,500 includes the $1000 build out cash available this month.
