    I'm in love.

After reading positive comments about the bright amber color on this page, I spent weeks hoping to see one on the road or at a dealership. Today, I finally saw one (bright amber with the lower accent paint job) at the Midway truck center in North Kansas City, and was it ever sharp! Dennis4, if I have to compare it between burnt orange and red, I would say it's closer to burnt orange. But that doesn't do it justice. You really should see the color on the truck (not just the paint chip) to appreciate it.

I know what the color of my new truck is going to be when I order it in Jan/Feb time frame. Please, nobody else in KC order bright amber, because I want to be unique (grin).

One question: I'm going to get a bed cover for mine. Are there problems getting covers that aren't a "common" color to match, or can they pretty much match whatever color you want? Anybody have suggestions on brands of bed covers?

Congratulations, Really good to hear that your truck is in and so far everthing is going great. The best of luck with your new toy. The dealer told me today that by buddy's truck was pulled today with the CD player and all. We were both told that ours orders would be held up because of a supposed shortage of CD players, but low and behold the shortage disappeared. He tells me that mine should be pulled next week if his dealership has a slot. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed.
Your mileage sounds really good considering you have less that 400 miles on the beast. Did you go for the auto or stick? I ordered mine with the 6 speed but haven't heard too much on any of the the posts about mileage for a 6 speed. Has anyone out there had any experience with the 6 speed and what kind of mileage they are getting. Thnaks again to all for great advice and encouragement in the long waiting game.

The color is more of a burnt orange, although in the right light it appears to be reddish. Dlamastr your right that two tone bright amber and prairie tan does look sharp. I'm not a big fan of two tones but if I had it to do over again I would seriously consider that combination. By the way, I realize beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the truck really looks sharp with black options. Like I said I got a tool box, bug screen and bed mat. At first I had a Delta diamond plate, chrome box but it didn't(in my opinion) look right, put black diamond plate box on and it looked right sharp.

I ordered the auto. I test drove a stick and it wasn't bad.

I too wanted to see the "pworange color" but could
never find a orange super duty on the lot and was
told by my dealership it is the same color as the
burnt orange on the Ranger and the Explorer, he
even showed me the cross reference in the master
color chart of Ford. Ask your salesman to verify
this because I looked at several Rangers with that
color and one Explorer and they were sharp indeed.
    Six weeks and waiting......

I received my F350, DRW, CC,3.73, ESOF 4X4, Lariat, Powerstoke Wht/Biege last Sat. Hated to see my old 91 350 (same specs less 4x4 and turbo) go, had good memories there. Despite driving this size rig for 7 years I was really surprised at how much bigger the new SD's are,( yeah I know the 4x4 adds to that). My kids noticed that the rear seat room is much larger. Also, the rear cylinders are almost under the dash. The new truck drives much smoother than the old rig and is much quieter with just the right amount of Turbo noise! Handling, if that is the right term is noticeably different, not only body lean but turn-in points (longer wheelbase)?
I've got the first 500 miles down and am averaging 16.8 MPG. Mostly 60-75 MPH and either A/C or at night with wipers and defrost.
I've really got to admit that this truck is well conceived and screwed together with not a single paint issue, vibration, squeak or rattle present.
A couple of things, the Trailer Tow mirrors and the DRW are the same width, BUT I fold them back out of the way when parking for an extended period anyway (I was used to parking a ways out anyway). I wish I could adjust the lower convex mirror as the drivers side is too low, great for watching the wheels roll.
Hang in there folks it was worth the wait!

    GOT IT !!!
Came in Thursday 9/24 and after having all the options installed I should have it next Wednesday. She is one sharp beauty ! I couldn't be happier with the Dark Hunter Green Metallic. I am really looking forward to driving her next week. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

My F350 Lariat CC 4X4 DRW took exactly 36 days, order to pickup. It came in in 35, but makeready took a bit of time and I picked it up officially the next day.

It's great. It's also huge -- at least 6-8 inches wider than my '93, even in the interior. Plenty of space behind the rear seat -- I had a speaker box that required me to move the seat 2" forward before, now it fits w/o moving the seat at all.

One word of warning about the power TT mirrors (get them, btw, they're great) -- the right hand main surface is not convex. Objects in the mirror look a damn sight closer than they really are for a change!

I just can't say enough good things. People keep staring at the truck, grinning, and asking questions. Its plain black, no dealer badge and I had them take the 4X4 (should be 6X6) stickers off the fenders. Simple, elegant, huge.

A decent site with information regarding delays across ALL company lines is http://www.wheels.com It's been mentioned here before, but I check the site every month to see what's going on.

After reading it I dont plan on seeing a new f250

Mayday--not to worry---just check directly at the plant for the scheduling of your truck--Gwen takes care of scheduling---her phone # has been previously posted---remember, YOU are the customer, and despite rumors, FORD does not want to lose your $$. Go directly to the plant---the Dealers are simply a go-between, anyway!! Good Luck. Our F250 was del'vrd. within 8 weeks. JB

Add me to the List, ordered my 250SD Xlt S/C 4x4.
All options, but two tone paint and power seat.
    Ordered at Invoice Price.

Has Anyone figured out the priority scheduling on this. The Ford Rep I have been dealing with on the
buy back of my 97 F150 stated that they would bump the priority up. Not sure if he's being straight with me.
  • pworangepworange Member Posts: 57
hoeftr, go figure, which would you give a higher priority to. A truck at invoice or one at MSRP. Money talks, I ordered mine at 1.5% above invoice and was assigned a priority 20, coincidentally it took 20 weeks but now I think it was worth the wait.

singer4, Gwen certainly is helpful but I don't think she can tell you anything until the VIN is assigned.
  • AKMarkusAKMarkus Member Posts: 21
    pworange,

Mine was a priority 20 as well. I don't know how but it came in at the end of 7 weeks. The dealer told me 16 - 20 weeks the whole time. The salesman had no idea of it's status until the rail car came in. Imagine my delight to get the call that it was here. The dealer said that it was off the "third line".

Can't give much info besides . . . but don't give up it should be a much shorter wait then back in the spring if the third line is indeed running.

Mine is a priority 10, and doesn't have a VIN or build date after five weeks. What is faster, a high priority number or lower number? I am paying $1200 over invoice, but am getting a lot more for my trade in than the other places. I went to 7 dealerships.
  • ARNARN Member Posts: 3
Sorry it took so long to get back to you but have been very busy. I have been hearing anywhere from 11 to 15 mph on the V-10. I am starting to learn more about this availability issue more all the time. It doesn't look good for getting one very soon. Just seen there was a new place to look for more info back a few messages so I am heading there now.
  • mroffshoremroffshore Member Posts: 148
    KEH4x4,

The lower the priority number the higher the priority for your dealership! Thats good for you, the lowest or the lowest priority is 50. Usually with that priority number and depending on your dealership's truck allotment, you should be able to take delivery in 6-10 weeks. Some dealerships have a higher truck allotment then others. The one I used in the spring had 8 per month and some have 2-4 per month.

Also the delivery should be close to what I mentioned asumming there are no holds on options.
I had 10 and I took delivery in 6 weeks 3 days. But ther were'nt any holds either and it was a reorder.

    I hope this hepls you,

I havn't seen anybody comment on the price increase that took effect in august. I just received a fax of the dealer invoice and immediately noticed a +500.00 change. It turned out to be $374 extra for the basic F250 4x4 cc lb and $90 up on the psd with a couple of other minor changes.

Edmonds does not show it in their price info but Kelley does .

By the way my truck is in and I will be picking it up this next week. I ordered at the 1st of june i think. Its been a long wait but it is the right timing for me.

    Nik1:

I hadn't noticed any difficulty seeing the console -- it probably depends a lot on your exact seating position.

    All:

I must say, this is a well engineered truck. It even has a nice flat position under the cubbyhole in the dashboard to mount something (CB, brake). I had to drive to work through thick rain today, with 3-4 inches in the right hand lanes heading for the storm drains. That's a situation that my '93 really didn't like -- the '99 didn't miss a beat.

    Campo:

That's great mileage. I've been getting about 10.5 in mine (same as yours, but CC and 4.30) but that's almost all to-and-from work in Dallas city traffic. Sounds like I might be able to get 12-13 on the highway -- can't wait to find out.

Just Found Out that My truck order priority was 14. Is that Good or BAD?

    ordered sept 25, 98 @ Invoice Cost.
  • mroffshoremroffshore Member Posts: 148
    hoeftr,

That sounds unusual to me. I was told by the sales mgr. at my dealership months ago that the priority numbers went in increments of 10 up to and incl. 50. Maybe I misunderstood or maybe I did'nt. If that is correct your close to 10 and that is the best you can get or so I've been told. Ask your sales mgr. Also thats a good priority despite buying at invoice.

The display in my overhead console is so dim that
you have to put your hands around it to see it in
the daylight. We have a 98 Jimmy with a similar
display that easy to see any time.
I asked the sales manager about it , his reply
was it's OK. This is the first Ford I been in ,
in along time, I thought maybe you Ford guy's

Hey guys, the fleet manager told me that the owner of the dealership changed the priority of my truck from a 10 to a 2. Is it me or does that sound like BS? He also told me that as of 9/23 my order was still "clean, unscheduled" ; today makes 5 wks,2 days from the order date of 8/26........
  • greg101greg101 Member Posts: 6
To report progress to date, the salesman called yesterday and asked if I still wanted the truck. He said the order was pulled and the build date was 9-6-98 with the arrivial in so. cal. near the end of the month. I am going to call him back after the 6th to see if a vin# has been issued. The truck was ordered on 5-28-98 with a priority #10. Truck stats as follows, F-350xlt,v-10,4x2,longbed,auto,3.73 axle, limited slip.

Yesterday I called and the fleet manager gave me a VIN and an est. time of arrival... Nov. 2.
It has been 14 weeks today. So that means that arrival would make it 18 weeks. My priority # started out at 20 and supposedly was moved to 11 and then to 10, but I have caught my dealer in at least two lies so far ( Or at least he thought he was telling me what an average idiot would want to know). At 8 weeks he told me my order was pulled. Can't say much because of the deal I am getting ($99 under invoice). I am going to call qwen some time this week and double check every thing that the dealer has told me.

When the dealer gets the VIN what else does he get like build date and E.T.A. or a spec. sheet or invoice sheet just some thing that they could fax me to see. To say the least I very sceptical of these guys. I just want ot get my ducks in a row before I call asking him to fax me a copy.

I did call my insurence with the VIN and it was an XLT with v10 4X2.

Nov. 2 will not get here soon enough. That '74 Delta 88 with no air is getting old. Even though the weather is finally cooling of in TX.

We have a good thing with the names and numbers of Ford people at the factory. I wouldn't use the information against the dealer. One of those dealer people might complain to a Ford muckety muck and Gwen and friends could get into trouble. Gwen could also be directed NOT to talk to us.

Well, I called the salesman today and got the vin#. He said the truck left the assembly plant.I wonder if it is worth calling gwen to see if there is a bill of lading for the truck to confirm if the truck is REALLY on the way? Before I call her does anyone know if she had that info when they have called her?
  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113
    greg101,

If you call Gwen with your VIN#, she will be able to tell you what day it was loaded on a freight car in Louisville.

    Ken,

I just "caught on" to the chat forum, saw your tire info,
and wanted to ask some prospective SD questions. I'll write
the CEO of Ford and request that Ford remunerate you somehow
for your help! My questions are:

    1) I don't need a 4x4, but want to acquire a lift kit. Could
you fill me in more than you have mentioned on how to add
reasonable height to non 4x4 SD's?
    2) What kind of milage can I expect to get out of my 7.3L
    TurboDiesel?
    3) Any "tricks " that I should be cautious of when
    purchasing?
    4) Any options I should stay away from?
    5) How do you like yours, and what are some of the day to
day challenges that you encounter w/your SD(i.e., parking,
handling, clearance problems in garages, etc.)

I want to purchase this truck because i will be towing a 32'
cigarette boat soon(I hope...)across Florida, have examined
the entire diesel truck market and have come back to Ford(I
    own a '68 F-100 6cyl, 1 barrel !), and love it.

I appreciate your advice, am in the computer biz, and would
be happy to return the favor of your advice by answering any
computer questions you may have, unless you're a guru like
90% of the people I meet daily:).

Hey, did you ever get a build date on your Lariat F350 4x4 V10. Your original order was placed in March, when I placed mine. Know you've changed to a dually. Seems like the Lariat 4x4 crews are really restricted. I left 2 messages on Gwen's machine and haven't heard from her. Figured I'd give the factory a chance to explain before I cancelled my order to buy a GMC. The dealer keeps saying my order is clean. They just don't have a clue. I'm into my 7th month. Think Babbitt Ford has a small allocation. If I was Ford, I'd fill orders for customers with a deposit first. But that would be logical and not business. Any recommendations, anyone? Greg
  • stanfordstanford Member Posts: 606
I made certain when I ordered my truck (from Hilltop Ford in north Texas) that they had no problem getting the order in immediately. They put it in, I left a $300 deposit, it was pulled the very next Thursday, and 36 days after placing the order I had my truck.

As far as I know, there are no hold ups specifically for the truck you mentioned (mine is an F350 DRW, CC, V10, 4X4, 4.30, Lariat). The only delay when I ordered mine was on the all-new deep red paint, so I switched to Black and it came through clean.

New to this forum, lots of great info. I'm looking to buy a SD 250 and notice that you can't get the snowplow option with the diesel engine. The dealer also told me that I would lose my warranty if I plow with a diesel. Does anyone out their Know what the weak link is with this setup?
Thanks in advance for any help.

If you've been waiting since March, it's likely time to start looking for another dealer. Nobody I've heard of has had to wait 8+ months. The dealer controls the priority of your order. Ford has no idea if you gave the dealer a deposit. Ford pulls a certain number of orders from each dealer each week. Ford pulls the orders based on the priority assigned to each order by the dealer.

If getting your truck quick is a priority, you should ask the dealer how many orders he has pending and how many orders he gets pulled each week. Stanford and I both live in the DFW area and ordered almost identical trucks (mine is a longbed). My dealer had over 20 orders pending and was only getting a couple orders pulled each week. Stanford's dealer was able to get his order pulled almost immediately and his truck was delivered in less than six weeks.

FYI, my truck arrived at the dealership yesterday. I've got a flight booked to Enid Oklahoma tomorrow to pick it up. It will get a 4+ hour road test on the drive back tomorrow afternoon. I scheduled an appointment to get a Line-X spray-on liner done Monday.

Stanford, any problems with the ESOF and the duallys? Are you thinking about the Banks Stinger or the full Power Pak? I noticed that you can get the Stinger and install the rest of the Power Pak later. Isn't the Stinger about $1,000 less? I'm thinking that might be a way to cushion the blow on the budget. The peformance claims by Banks related to the Ford 460 for the Stinger are: +36hp, +50 lb-ft torque and +14% mpg. The claims for the full Power Pak are: +68hp, +85 lb-ft torque and +15% mpg.

The snowplow/diesel issue might have to do with the front end weight restrictions. The deisel weighs about 500-600 pounds more than the gas engines.
  • stanfordstanford Member Posts: 606
Brutus: Not a problem yet. Some rattles caused by loose weatherstripping, etc, that I'm having fixed this weekend but nothing serious. I haven't really been in 4X4 (for more than a few feet, just as a test) so I really can't comment there.

I'm probably going to do the whole PowerPack at once -- it won't be for a little while though. I want to recover somewhat from the $12K cash I just put down on the truck itself.

maybe there's something to what gmace says...
The multiple dealers I'm talking with can't hold up much hope for quick deliveries over here in New Jersey. I may be in OK/TX for X-Mas, maybe I'll find someone there that can get one for me for delivery then?

Stanford: Congratulations! I'm surprised to hear that you had no delays, since www.wheels.com has been showing many of your options to be "severely restricted" for several months now. (Of course my future truck includes every option on that list.)

Plow/Diesel: Best I can tell, you can get them as a pair. In fact, there appears to be a credit when you order both, since they both include some of the same parts. But you can't choose Plow with a CrewCab.
I guess someone thinks that's too big a truck to plow with? (no such thing in my book) As I read the options though, getting the HD Suspension package and the diesel gets you about the same thing. My old order had diesel/HD susp/trailer/camper, and that appeared to include each individual suspension option included, without having to get plow too.

I live in Edmonton Canada and I factory ordered my F350 Lariat CC psd 4x4 and I know how frustrating it can be while waiting for your truck to come in or even trying to get an answer on your truck from the dealer. I see F250 and F350 Lariats in all kinds of variations here on dealer lots and I would gladly help someone with there purchase. With the exchange rate you could probably get a truck in Canada for less than the U.S. dealer cost. Just
my 2 cents. So far I can't find any flaws in my
truck yet and the diesel engine has more power
than you could imagine. When driving down the highway and your going to pass someone and that
turbo kicks in its like you are taking off in a F-18. (AWESOME!) You can email me if you have any questions at fredlambert@shaw.wave.ca

This is my first posting to this site. I have just ordered a F250 SD Crew Cab and PS Diesel, with short bed. My dealer was very up front with me about delivery (as we buy all our company vehicles from him he can't afford not to tell me the straight scoop.) I hope this info is helpful for all of you. First of all each dealer is on allocation. This has to do with how many of these trucks he was moving before the Super Duty came out. The dealer has only so many slots where he can place an order with the factory for a SD. The dealer should be able to tell you when his next slot opens up. If you place an order today... and his next slot is not available to week # 52 then your order will not get placed until Christmas. Then you get in line with all the other orders flooding in at the factory.
Other interestesting facts. Ford has budgeted 40% of production for diesel engines, 14% for V10. Only 9% of production is allocated for dual rear wheels... also only 9% for Lariet trim. If you happen to order options in short supply it can delay your order. But I have to assume the big delays you are posting have to do with dealers who dont have any slots available... but are not honest enuf to tell you that up front.
    Good luck.

My dealer also mentioned that the Ford may have to slow down on the heavy duty models because of something related to CAFE. I don't know anything else. I'm not sure if that means just 1 tons or just duallys or if it is the entire line. He also mentioned that the problems with the Lariats were the suppliers, particularly the suppliers of the Lariat wheels and leather interiors.
  • KCRamKCRam Member Posts: 3,516
    Brutus,

I'm gonna just go ahead and say your dealer is BADLY misinformed. CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) has nothing to do with vehicles that aren't rated by the EPA for fuel economy. It's a weighted average of al the EPA-rated vehicles a manufacturer expects to produce over a model year. Since the Super Duty Fords are all over 8500 GVWR, none of them are rated for fuel economy by he EPA, thus none of them can affect Ford's CAFE rating.

A safer guess would be, Ford and/or their suppliers can't meet demand of the SD trucks. Another thing you may see that will improve the CAFE - restrictions on the use of the 5.4 V8 in the F150/250LD and E150/250 vans.
  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113
Actually, it was a comment by the finance guy when I was paying for the truck. Like I said, I don't know anything about CAFE. Is there no relation between the percentage of non-EPA vehicles you can sell in relation to the number of EPA regulated vehicles?

Just ordered a SD F250 Latiat SC 4x4 on 9-28-98, 8ft bed with everything but the snowplow package.Looking at these response for the delivery
dates,I have some time to suffer to pick mine up.
I was told that it would take 6-8 weeks and that Ford just put on an extra shift on.I would really hate to have a truck payment in December. But worse, one next year.Haa.Will let everybody know when they tell me a date and when it will be in.
    GOOD LUCK!!!

Received Word from Ford on friday, The
    F250 SD PS S/C 4x4 that I ordered on Sept 26
is due to arrive at the dealer Nov 16. This is coming straight from the Ford Rep thats handling
    my 97 F150 Buyback.

Sound Resonable or is this guy pulling my leg?
  • stanfordstanford Member Posts: 606
Sounds reasonable. Mine took 36 days from order to delivery.

Those percentages sound odd -- 45% of SDs with the 5.4l V8? I'm a little skeptical there. Most numbers I'd heard were running higher percentages for the diesel than that too.
  • KCRamKCRam Member Posts: 3,516
As far as requirements for non-EPA vehicles, they have their own set of regulations, but they are nothing like CAFE. Basically they are lumped in with medium duty trucks. My Ram actually has a sticker that says it meets the applicable federal NOISE regulations for medium duty trucks!

Well I've already typed this once but it didn't seem to show up. Today I called my dealer hoping to hear after 10 weeks of waiting if just maybe my order was pulled. Since my birthday was yesterday I jokingly asked my salesman, Butch, if he had a present for me. To my surprise he said "Your truck arrived over the weekend." I asked what happened as I talk to him every week to see if my order was pulled. He said he didn't have an answer for how he never saw anything until it showed up on his lot. I don't know what realy happened but I didn't exspect a truck for a few months so I guess I'm ahead of the game.

I just returned from checking out my F350 4x4 v10 tan supercab and it's sure pretty. Tomorrow I take in my 96 dodge 1500 trade and pick up my new truck. By the way the sticker price stayed the same 32,025 and the dealer stuck to our deal of invoice 28,169 and he evaluated my trade for 11,300. I guess this is fair since before I ordered I was given between 10,800 and 11,500 from 4 other dealers mostly dodge.

    f150man,
I'm not sure about the 40% budgeted for diesel statement from your dealer.

There is a Ford publication that is sent to the sales staff at dealers. (The title escapes me at the moment.) I believe that in the February issue there was a "rah/rah, pump up the sales types" article about the '99 Super Duties. The statement was that the '97/'98 models were going out the door with high fourty percent diesel. The plan for the '99s during '98 was closer to 50% and the expectation for '99 was closer to 60% for diesels. Please remember that there are 450s and 650s in the new '99 SD line and most of these are probably diesel.

My F250 SC, V10, LWB, 373 LS, 4x4 arrived. Only after a short drive yesterday and today I noticed a vibration in the truck around 35-40 mph. The truck has General's AT 235s tires, but the vibration seems like it's in the drive line. Has anyone else notice any vibration in theirs??? And how smooth should one expect this truck to be?? I haven't bought it yet....Any thoughts???
