I ordered a GMC 2500 crew 4x4 with the 6.0 and 4.10 on 18 Aug 00. I was given a TPW of 27 Nov 00, just found out that the truck was built on 05 Dec, so I'm hoping on a delivery of the 25 Dec.
Thought I would post this info to give other folks a timeline for ordering.

I don't know where you live but there a quite a few cc sb 4x4 6.0 leather loaded trucks around the Dallas area. I've decided if I'm going to have one of these I'm going to have go where they are available. I've got a whole list of dealers if you want more info let me know.

I've got a 95 surburban with the limited slip rear end. The only service required is to change the rear diff gear oil with the first oil change. No other servicing is required after that. I don't know if there is any difference with the newer locking rear end. I would expect it would be the same service. Would I get a locking rear end again? You bet, and if it were available on the front end of a 4 wheeler I would get it on both ends. If you ever tow on a slippery surface on an incline you'll be glad you did.

Thanks for the input. I test drove another truck just like mine (except not EC) and it did the same thing. Guess I will do like you suggest. It's just annoying.....the dealer opened a trouble report with GM and MAYBE there will be a
GM effort to fix it if enough people complain.

Sorry if my last post (#102) seemed negative. I find it frustrating to wait over four months to order a vehicle only to find I can't get what I want. I live in Montana. The sparse population here equates to low dealer allocations. I found a truck in Denver that meet my basic requirements but it was priced beyond my budget. I didn't consider Texas but I did try to export one from Calgary. (Can only export used trucks.) Amazing that dealers could have trucks sitting on lots in one part of the country while others sit waiting. If anyone has an encouraging word about 8.1 gas mileage I could sure use it.

10.5 towing 8000 lbs or so -- Was the GM tour deal so grain a salt, but I bet it was a 4.10 and with the 3.73 should be some better. Someone else posted hyway at 13+ i think with only 150 miles.

Guy next door has big ram v-8 and was complaining about back & forth to work 13.?.

Heck my 5.8 f150 is just getting 10+ so maybe those of us who have the 8.1/3.73 on order won't do so bad after all.
    Keep your chin up --

Boy! Sure don't understand why you couldn't order the LT the way you wanted it. When you pay this much I figure I'm going to order it exactly the way i want so not always wishing i would'ove. The extra options are not that much % diff.
GO FOR WHAT YOU WANT ---!!!

Think you should hold out til you get what you want for sure.

    Love that blue Montana Sky!!

Just picked up a 8.1/Allison 4.10 last night. Incredible truck! They are worth the wait!

The guy had a couple of other 2500HD's on the lot still. Check out Dan Vaden Chevy through www.gmbuypower.com. The guy there T.C. was real good to work with. The price was real competitive.

Sorry you couldn't get better service, and since I lived in Montana - Nye and Absarokee - I kind of understand where you are coming from. I have a 2500HD, 8.1,Allison on order. Ordered on Oct. 10 and expect end of Jan. On gas mileage, I don't know except for the posts that I read. However if it makes anyone feel better about GM, I am driving a F250 Ford with a 351Windsor engine. I keep very good records on everything I own - do that for the IRS and personal knowledge - and for the year of 1999 I got 7.3 miles per gallon. Since 2000 is not over yet, I don't know what I will get. However, I did drive to Clinton Mont. and got about 8.65 mpg round trip. Anything can be better than that. My airplane is the best thing I own for mileage - 15 mpg at 120 mph. Where do you live in Mont? Montana is the greatest state I have ever lived and I love it. Will probably retire there. I really like Red Lodge.

I am on the west side of the Rockys and on the east side of the Cascades. I have a Grumman Traveler - 150HP. I have flown over the Rockys more than the Cascades - mostly into Montana. I have flown into Omaha a few times also. I had a Grumman TR-2, 108HP, and flew over the Rockies with it. Almost went down at Salmon Idaho in a 100HP Cessna 150,iced up, 1/8th tank of gas, and 140 miles to VFR. God was with me - Got that 150 to 14,000 (if anyone were to tell me a 150 got to 14000, I wouldn't believe them) I made it to Challis, and about 10000 feet below was Challis airport - cut the power, to hell with thermal shocking the engine, 40 degrees of flaps, and dove. Had 2.6 gallons left. That was the worst flight of my life. My girlfriend and I both had given up making it out alive. I made a couple of stupid mistakes on that flight - which I will never make again. Guess this doesn't have much to do with Silverados, does it?

Thanks to the response on the rear differential question from hunter, ryan, and bud. I have another question. The dealer tells me that you cannot have a rear sliding window any more as an option, and you would have to get one after market. Any one know of a good resource for this product? Seems to me to be ridiculous to get a new truck and then have to take out the rear window to get what you want. The dealer said it was a liability problem with the security of the slider. I sure like the one I have in my ranger now.
  • woolyback2woolyback2 Member Posts: 21
Can anyone tell me what the ordering sequence is when you order a truck.
I know the dealer will enter it into the computer and it is automatically received at GM and is officially on order. At least that is what my dealer did. Once a week on a Friday he gets a direct connection with GM and enters all of his orders.
What I would like to know is what happens next so I know what is going on with my truck.
I'm sure there are a lot of other potential buyers out there who would benefit from this information.
    thanks.

I believe the rear sliders GM was using had a problem with the frame cracking.
Don't know if it was a supplier problem or the cab twisting.
I had a C.L. Lawrence rear slider installed after I purchased the truck. $200 installed. Looks nice. No cracks so far. You need to decide if you want it tinted.
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
I have a 99 with a factory rear slider. The frame cracked and had to be replaced with an improved version.

I also have a 2000 3/4 ton, and I could not order a slider on that truck, so I got a C.R. Laurence slider.

Both the CR Laurence and replacement slider are superior to the original factory slider. The original slider could be opened with a coat hanger in 5 seconds (I found out when I locked myself out at a rest stop in Colorado) and the replacements cannot be opened with a coat hanger.

For about $200, get the CR Laurence slider. It's worth it.

My rear Slider frame ('99) has been cracked for a year or so. Coming up on end of warranty. What type of rear slider did they install at your dealer?
  • sdpiersonsdpierson Member Posts: 69
mletje is right---it is C.R. Laurence.
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
No brand name listed on the window, but it appears very similar to the CR Laurence one I bought for my other truck. It has a metal frame and latches on the passenger side, just like the CR Laurence one.

I don't expect any problems with this one.

Does anyone know if a cloth seat with full power controls (including lumbar and recline) is offered in the HD's?
  • roger350roger350 Member Posts: 157
I believe the only way to get power lumbar is to get the LT package. It doesn't even come on the power leather seats in the LS package. The recline I don't know about?
  • markbuckmarkbuck Member Posts: 1,021
Just curious, have one on order, wondering what the seat configuration is and if the rear seats fold down?

Out of the last big snow storm that buried RYAN we got rain, but some of the water that was on the ground has frozen now. Had a puddle about 30 ft long and 4 ft wide by 5 inches deep that had frozen along side the driveway. I thought I would see how froze it was since it has gotten down to low single digits this morning. backed over the puddle, it smashed the ice all the way back. Put it in forward, rear diff locked, still no go. Couldn't even rock it. But it in 4x4, pulled right out, didn't even spin a tire. Other rear tire was on ice in the driveway. Goes to show you 4x4 can come in handy in ice and snow. Were under a winter storm warning for tomarrow now supposed to get between 4-10. Have one final tonight at six, two on thursday. Worried about the idiots down here, this will be the biggest snow possible in ten years for carbondale. Hope my truck doesn't get smashed, they will probable post-pone exams I guess, I hope not. If it snows, there are very few plows down here, getting out of parking lot will be interesting.

    Best of Luck

All the info on the sliders is correct, we own a glass business and have replaced many of the new sliders due to the frame cracking. The C.R. Laurence brand is the brand we sell and is the very best available. They do also have a power-slider thats a very good window but you do lose a little bit of space do to mounting the control under or behind the seat.
    Hope this helps,

Yeah, I hope they don't push back or reschedule exams because I really don't want to have to come back or stay longer. I want to be done. How long do you get off. We come back the Tuesday after MLK day, like the 14th or 15th of Jan. About a month off. I hope you did well on finals.

It started sleeting and then the freezing rain started about 8:00PM and at 11:30 its still coming down. I went and picked up my son so he would not get run over by the FOOLS on the roads in their 4X4's who can't drive. Dropped and yes it did drop a 900lb bale of hay into the back of my '99 C2500 2X4 and drove about 14 miles each way with out any problems. As I moved the tractor around to put the bale in the truck I had it raised up to clear some other things and the bale started to roll and fell about 6 foot to the back of the truck and it had about 2 inches of shock rebound and that was it.

5" of snow already, it is freezing rain right now at school on top of the snow. Called home, 60 miles north we got 10" so far, still snowing, mom got the car stuck in a 2' snow drift in the drive. I don't have a HD just a 2000 Ext Cab 4x4 SLT. I want a duramax but hard to justify oh well. The 6.0 LD 2500 is looking better all the time, and still get autotrack :)

Please Explain one more time EXACTLY what the difference is.
    75v
  • hunter98hunter98 Member Posts: 273
2500 LD Autotrack has the autotrack like the 1500 does. It engages when needed and allows you to trun virtually like in 2wd with light trottle, if it senses slip it engages the front wheels. 4w drive on the HD is an on or off affair. Same as the 4 hi on the LD. Turning is much more difficult, parking and driving in town is more difficult. You wouldn't use it on wet or semi slippery roads. I would engage it in and out several times because of main roads DRY and side and country roads GLAZED. With the 8" snow we just got I would use 4 hi because it is covered everywhere. This weekend would be autotrack.

    Just my 2 cents

Since the Duramax seems to be appearing now, I wonder if any of you know if a 3500 chassis cab with the Duramax and Allison can be had yet? An F-350 with diesel will cost me $26,000 and I am weighing the possibility of getting a Chevy/GMC that I am sure would cost more. I am looking to put a dump bed on and need the diesel. Any help would be appreciated. Since it seems hard to post right now, I am including my e-mail address. Hope this works. I don't like the new Town Hall system so far either! gglasscock@home.com

Awesome looking truck. i thought to myself, 'this is how high ALL Z-71
trucks should sit.' if only they would give the half tons a similar ride height instead of worrying that women would hitch up their skirts tryin to climb up, it would be pretty much perfecct.
