About 6 months to a year ago, there was a series of posts about Silverado owners who put wind deflectors on the hood and had problems with the change in airflow causing a flutter/noise in the windshield seal. One fix was clear RTV, and someone else was told to use 3M adhesive strips.
Well, I have that same situation now. Which is the preferred solution, and are there specific narrow adhesive strips, or would I rip a wider 2 sided adhesive down to fit?
I tried searching for the solution, but all I know from the search is that it's in there. I don't have time to cover hundreds of posts looking for my needle.
I used 3m tape. Cut it long ways (ripped it like when using a saw). Put it under the trim and POOF noise gone. Never really heard it except for one day i was driving into some heavy head winds. Though i should add it for the heck of it
Anybody install this 2.5 inch leveling kit yet? I'm seriously considering it. I can live with a sagging rear for the few times I actually haul anything substantial.
See my post #5508 asking the same question. So far, no one has said anything particular about that lift. I got a few comments regarding what it might do to the front axles being run at an angle.
I ordered mine last week, still don't have it though. I've been looking for one forever, just found this one last week. Let me know if you hear any more about it. At least they have substantial info about it on their website.
I know you live in Hawaii and my wife and I would like to relocate there someday. I am wondering which island you live on? Any info on Hawaii would be great. You can e mail me at jl_griff@yahoo.com with anything.
Now for me Silverado questions.. What do you think is the best thing(s) that I can do to my truck for increased performance\gas mileage?
Obyone, May be coming your way in September for our anniversary, if we do we will have to get together on north shore in Haliewa for a few Mai Tai's, I can't remember the name of the bar though, might have something to do with those Mai Tai's I had there the last time!
For the benefit of those Silverado owners, here is the end result for my 5.3L knock issue that I posted on "GM Engine Knock" site........
5/100 Ext. Componet Warranty Take It or Leave It says GM. So at this point what choice do I have, I took it after a futile arguement for a 6/100 beginning after the 3/36 expired, tried to get the 5/100 to take effect after 3/36, that didn't go over either. So with 27,000 on the odometer and the truck almost 2 years old I get an extra 2 years or 54,000 miles added to my 3/36 warranty for the engine only. As I told customer rep GM sure doesn't have much faith in it's product if it can't back up the claim that the "knock" is normal and will not cause any premature wear. "Sorry sir, that's the best offer with can give you"
So that's the end of the story for now, until some auto mag, Consumer Reports or Big Brother steps in to confront GM on this "knock issue".
it's better than nothing eh? i went through the same thing you just did, only my truck which has 51K on it now ('00) is sure to hit 100K before the time limit. the only disadvantage in taking their warranty is that you give up your right to buyback. the "loose" bottom end noises i hear are no louder now than they were at the time of my complaint. engine has gone through oil changes (Mobil I) every 4K. tranny was just serviced (pan dropped) and it to is clean as a whistle. having owned several offshore brands, made me believe that these trucks should be quieter than they are, but all my GM's cars and trucks have had a quirk or two, so i no longer worry about it. one that comes to mind was our Olds 88 ('68) with a Rocket 454 (hi Comp) that had the loudest snap/crack sound at start up (known has rod bearing clearance), and it never failed or used a drop of oil till it hit 140K. it was the fastest "lead sled" i ever had......laid 96' of rubber right in front of a cop once too.
You obviously knew this cop or you had him handcuffed to the steering wheel LOL!
Buy back is no longer an option with New York's Lemon Law after 1 year or 18,000 miles, so I settle for the additional 2 years or 54,000 miles on the engine. Only time will tell if this ever develops into a full blown problem, I hope not since I usually keep my trucks for 10 years on average. However if I ever win the lottery it will be a no brainer to trade it in and get something new, I won't hold my breath on that one though.
68 Olds 88 w/454, big engine to go with the big boat of a car. I traded in a 63 F-85 Cutlass for a 69 AMX w/390 V-8 and still own that car today. Ahhhhh those were the days.
I had the Gibson swept side installed. Wasn't too happy and switched to the PV system. It's pretty good course a supercharger would make more of a difference......
www.pvmufflers.com
I chose the superwhites simply because they were cheaper and DOT approved. You will notice the quality of the light is whiter and brighter. The downside is that the beam is more "concentrated" towards the middle of the road and not as "broad" as the stock lights. Would I do it again? Most certainly cause we don't have any deer problems in Hawaii.
Maui is a great place. Most of the job opportunities lie in the hospitality industry. Course a good puter person could make a living anywhere.....
throttle on my '99. The first time I'd drive it after sitting all day or overnight it was like the throttle was stuck and took extra pressure to "break it loose". Then it was ok until it sat for a long period. Drove it for most of 28k miles this way. My Brother-in-Law and Nephew who both had '99's had the same thing and had thiers fixed. After warranty had expired and NOT by the selling Dealer. But a more receptive Dealer who got it in under warranty.
Add the cat back system but skip the airbox they do nothing for HP increase. I added the Borla catback system to my truck and already had the optional increased Airbox from factory. My 2 cents I have a link to truck pictures thru my profile if you want to look.
I had the throttle sticking problem on my '99. It felt as if something was catching as I press the pedal. It was "checked/repaired" a few times by two different dealers. Neither actually replaced it, only clean and grease was all they did. I turned it in last October with over 50K miles and it was tolerable. Not sure what would happen if it were left alone or not fixed.
What do you guys think of the Dexcool coolant in the newer vehicles? I've heard it can cause damaging effects on the engines if not monitored closely. I was told that it would be best to flush the system and put in the "origianl green" antifreeze. Seems that the Dexcool doesn't hold up as well as we are led to believe. Anyone have any thoughts on this either way? I plan on keeping my truck for quite a few years and one less problem would be nice!!
As I understand only has a problem if it is Open to air. There are a couple of known problems with radiator caps allowing the coolant to oxydize. Otherwise I have seen it last over 100,000 with no problems.
I had DexCool liquid turn into DexCrud solid on a 95 G20 conversion van with the 350 at 42000 miles. Happens quickly (I check fluids every weekend) too.
Owner's Manual says: "Damage caused by the use of coolant other than Dex-Cool is not covered by your new vehicle warranty."
I plan to flush & change to regular Prestone at 36,000 miles.
BTW, I tried to get the Dex-Cool flushed & replaced with non-Dex at delivery by the dealer but got the BS warranty excuse.
Looking for a recommendation for a good source of GM Manuals. Need them for both a 2002 Silverado and 97 Venture.
I remember seeing recommendations for manuals that were better than Chilton's, but I can't find that post anymore. The only shop manuals that show up on the search engine is for Lexus.
Not sure if this is true (as if anything the service department tells you is true!) Some computer sensors that read engine temp will not function correctly if you change back to regular antifreeze. May cause drivability problems - more noticable during warm up.
Thanks for the info on my questions. I am a computer person so who knows.. perhaps I can get to Hawaii sooner than later. I would still assume that Oahu would be better for IT related jobs but who knows...
As far as the lights they sound good but unfortunately I have to worry about deer here in PA. Perhaps I should get a push bar and throw some PIAA's on there? What do you think??
Also, did you notice any difference in gas mileage with the PV muffler system? BTW, does your Silverado Vibrate???
I had thought about that coolant....right after I had serviced my trans. What I was planning on doing was replacing the coolant at 50K miles which should be by the end of this year. Figuring going with the same red/orange stuff mixed at 50% with distilled water. Something kinda bothered me about letting it go for 100K miles...not sure what it was.
On the PV system I can't really tell if mileage increased, I'm averaging around 15 mpg with 70% highway on a 2wd xcab. Yeah my rado used to vibrate until they replaced the rack and pinion under a TSB. Course those crappy General tires that come with the truck don't help any either.
Take a look at the IPF series 900. That's what I have. 375,000 candle power. And yes you can change the bulb out to whatever color you want.
I currently paid 250 and 90 bucks to install them. Amber lights will cost ya about 25 a peice. Trust me, only use these things when nobody is around. About 1/2 mile plus range on em.
Good for shining in on Honda's that cut you off. Problem is that they will shine through his and about 3 other cars!
Check em out. They are brighter then the PIAA's. Cheaper too but about a hundred bucks!

Dual Exhaust?

Hypertech III?
Something else??
I do a lot of driving and with the increasing gas prices, I would like to do something. Any thoughts comments would be appreciated!
Also... has anyone replaced there stock headlights/fog lights with something BRIGHTER! The stock ones are kind of weak!
Thanks!

The difference being that one's approved and one isn't.
I live on the main island of Oahu. Today is a scorcher 80 degrees, 58% relative humidity, with unusual southerly winds at 12 mph.
Best bang for the buck I think would be a good catback system. And one thing that's definite....86 any ideas about a tornado.

What exactly are the symptons of the throttle body needing replacing?
I am wondering cause i hear sticky gas pedal. What exactly is that?
When i let my foot off the brake (and not press the gas) the truck doesnt move. It doesnt move at all until i hit the gas. Is this a symptom?
