Well, I don't think its worth the extra, but then again many would disagree. Any pictures of the bowtie version in the accessories catalog? Just a thought. -Eric
Ok....But I'd still rather pay the gas and have the power in reserve.....instead of saying "why did I go with a couple MPG more to only have a terrible towing experience..?"
on a 2500HD. I posted some pics of my '01 Chevy 2500HD 4X4 EC SB with the 285's (www.picturetrail.com/whatsachevy). I did crank the torsion bars up 4 turns (about 3/4") and had to trim some of the front air dam and inner front fender wells. The left front rubs slightly when turning hard left on the rear of the fender well, but it is not bad enough to worry about fixing. I even went to 16X8" rims which are 1 1/2" wider than the stock rims. I like the bigger tires much better and they have basically the same load weight rating as the stock 245's.
BTW, I was also at TMS this last weekend. It was a 4X4 driver's dream. Mud everywhere. There were 6 of us in our '77 26' Coachmen (Chevy 454, 4-barrel, duals with glasspacks). Our buddy pulled us out of the muck Sunday morning with his Chevy 1500 with the stock tires. He won $20 from the guy parked next to us that said his "Little Chevy" didn't have the guts to pull our RV out. I have been to TMS every year so far, and I am still waiting for dry conditions and nice weather. Maybe someday!
I just put a set of TR55IX (the newest NGK design for our trucks) on my 6.0L.
The hardest part was getting the plug boots off, but I was able to do it with my hands.
Make sure you torque your plugs back in, as the torque setting is really low (?11-13?ft-lbs). I also installed some dielectric grease on the boots when I put them back on.
The new plugs are heat range 5.5 which is a half step cooler than the OEM NGK plugs. My OEM plugs were bleach white, so a slighly cooler plug is probably just right.
BTW, I got little hands but super grip strength due to decades of racing dirtbikes, so..... you might end up having to use a tool.
2 yrs already on that 'rado ! Mine will be 1 yo in May ! Hey if yer lookin for a soft tonneau check out k-mart ! My girl got mine there 150 bucks ! Oddesy (spl) made by Le-bra co. Its held up well here in the NY snow and ice. No snaps and the frame comes with c clamps to hold it on ! So if i gotta haul anything the whole thing comes off in a couple of minutes or ya can roll it up. It has built in straps in front to hold it in place if you do.....Hey hows your stepsheilds held up over the winter ? Mine stayed put no probs. and held tight all winter too. Worth the 20 bucks not to have scratched up door sills!..............geo
I want to install aftermarket fog lights on my 01 silverado. The factory air dam opening that I measure is 3 x 7 inches. Most retangle fog lights that I have seen are 3.5 x 7 inches. I prefer PIAA lights, but none seem to fit. Please advise.
figured out. You find lots of them in college towns. Just returned from 3788 mile, two week, 3 wild turkey trip. East Coast to NW Arkansas, back through Alabama,(didn't see our favorite resident), Georgia, SC, NC, and VA. Did not see ONE toyota towing anything on the highways. Did see one taco hooked up to about a 16' flat bottom boat....It was broke down beside HWY 58 in Southern VA. LOTS of GM and Ford products towing. Not as many, but several Dodge trucks towing. Heaviest thing I saw loaded on a Toyota was a 17' Old Towne canoe near the Buffalo River in the Ozarks of NW Arkansas. Good luck on this one now! Tom
On what was left of rear bumper on a '78 rusted out, beat-up Chevy 1/2 ton with tailgate missing doing 80 MPH on I-20 in AL...... "Honk if parts fall off" Fellow driving it had a really sun burned neck. I wonder.....No, couldn't have been...Well, it was AlaBAMA...
Yea, that's the stereo typical thing, must be Alabama. I lived in Bama all my life, and every place I've been there is always someone with a sun burned "neck". Oh well whatever. It could be worse I guess. If your not doing at least 80mph on any Alabama highway, your going to get run over! With only a few hundred troopers, many in upper ranks, it leaves only a few to patrol the roads. There are times when there is only one trooper for 5 counties. Keep that in mind if/when your traveling south for your vacations. Small cities are unable to patrol the highways unless their population is more than 50,000. The 97mph cut off on my 1500 is probably a good thing sometimes.
The mirrors are holding up GREAT obyone. They have seen below zero temps and 80 degree + temps. Only 1 chip from a large rock. Its not bad barely noticable.
Also the zaino spray on stuff works awesome. I applied for the 1st time yesterday. It rained today (drizzled) and left no spots whatsoever. Couldnt even tell it rained. On spots on the truck were from hauling mulch and dirt yesterday/today
Zaino spray-on stuff? No rain spots? I missed this. Not much on putting in the time for show quality finish on a truck, but I hate washing it and then having it look dirty from light rain. It be blue with black flares; like yours, Ryan. -- Don
hey obyone looks like with the savings from the soft cover over the hard cover im gonna replace my rear speakers (gf said they are sounding bad so i know i am not hearing things)
For folks who are interested, there is now a borescope photo of cylinder bore damage caused by piston slap on a 2001 8.1 Liter GM engine with only 14K miles in addition to the .wav file of the sound at http://www.gmpistonslap.cjb.net
This is the only knocking cylinder which is approximately down 10 PSI on compression when compared with the average of the other cylinders. The engine knocks at all temperatures (although louder at cold start) and is now using approximately 1.2 qts per 2K miles of oil. Borescope inspections of the other non-knocking cylinders showed only the original factory machining
I agree with you. I wasn't offended at all. I know all to well what too much sunburn can do. LOL.
Finally finished a project that I am glad I didn't use the truck for. I was thinning out a tree this weekend and used a ladder to reach some higher limbs. Word to the wise, don't miss your cut cause when the limb falls end first and kicks back toward the tree it could hit the ladder. Only wish someone had told me so I wouldn't have drop 8 feet on my back. Wished I'd had the cam setup, it might have won something. BTW, I didn't say hey ya'll watch this.
I didn't quite go to that extreme but we did load up the Oak I cut down this weekend. No pics but it looks like it hadn't been used. I did use the old bed liner in a wire mesh trailer for the little stuff.
Had to look twice, thought that was your truck at first. I would not expect this load of stones to damage any liner. I would expect more damage from the shovel to get them out if not done carefully. Throw some busted pieces of concrete blocks, or large (5-10 pound)rough stones in there and see if it doesn't have gouges. I am impressed the way the truck handles the load! Tom
if you have a 1/2 ton truck, licensed as a 1/2 ton truck, and you put a ton of rocks in it, aren't you technically overloaded? And subject to ticket and fine?
My 1/2 ton Silverado has about a 2000lb payload before I reach the GVWR of 6400lbs. Above 6400lbs, it may be ticketable. But, I only seen pickup weights checked in Canada.
It looks like 1/3 of the cars around here have mechanical violations (headlight aiming, exhaust, clear taillights, wheel/tires, cracked windshield, etc) that could be ticketed, but never are.
By the way, my 2500 (3/4 ton) has a payload of over 3000#.
About a month ago i tired to order a fuel filter from parts america. They sent the air filter but canceled the fuel filter. Talked to my salesman buddy and he found out from the parts dept they changed the filter. The new number is

Look at the following:

Look under Saddleman, Tonneau Covers.
I have this one on my truck and it works great.
Sorry it does not have a bowtie on it.
I think you can get it for less than the GM price and it looks to be the same one as what they are selling.

It's brand new and was just opened in the past few days. Check it out when you get a chance.
I know what LT 265/75-16 C stands for - I also know what a Q or S at the end means - speed rating Q= 99 MPH, S=112mph.
But what does the number in front of the speed rating stand for.
Examples:
LT 265/75-16/C 112Q
LT 265/75-16/C 123Q
LT 265/75-16/C 119S
I thought it was the actual speed rating in MPH - but if this is true how could a Q rated tire (123Q) be higher than an S rated tire (119S)??
Maybe I have too much time on my hands -
My guess is most of the guys selling tires don't know the answer -
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/general/speed.htm
the number you're looking at is the load index and not the speed rating.

Hey have you changed that cabin filter yet?

I should have got a pic from last thursday. I had the bed overflowing (literally) with mulch (in bags).
