Thanks for getting the true locker information. It's about as I expected, OK as long as you don't abuse it.

buying them....only thing I figured the freight to be about $150 - $175 to get em here. Oh well, let's see if you get the CC first.

Was stuck in traffic as a tourist on a moped did a right turn into the sidewalk at 25 mph with no head gear. Either unconcious or dead spread eagle on the road. Just so happened I was stuck in front of a Dodge dealer which is also owned by the company I bought my truck from. They had 4 3500 white rams parked in the front, all with stainless steel dumps on them and cab lights. In the middle was a Black quadcab 3500 dually. Now that truck looked awesome. Too bad it's a Dodge.

On the tourist, didn't see any blood. It just so happened that she got all panicky when the cars passed her so close that she drove into the sidewalk and flew off the moped and knocked herself out. Either concussion or a big knot on the head. Can't believe these tourists don't wear head gear. Ambulance took her away and cops were deciding what to do with the moped. Don't think she'll be enjoying her vacation from the hospital.

about $19,500 trade in on your "clean condition" LS. Does your truck have excessive wear, only 3 doors, or other drawbacks? Are you using GMO/GMS to buy the new truck, since that lessens how much the dealer will give you on trade in? How much depreciation total from the price you paid is the $18,000 trade in? I am curious because the local Chevy dealer would only give me 11K on the stripper I paid 16K for from him after 6 months of driving (GMS price to GMS price). I have heard $4-5K depreciation in the first year (actually, when you drive it off the lot) is typical. Also, it seems that within a fairly broad range, mileage and condition don't seem to matter much on a newer model trade in. Buying new vehicles is just inherently expensive, I guess.

In todays mail came AMI Auto World Weekly

It had a review of the Silverado LT extended
cab 4x4 1500. I did not read the article before
passing on to another family member
but throught it might be of interest to some on
    the forum.

I did read the Lincoln Navigator review
since used to have one. They weren't that
    impressed neither was I

    Save the day.

This evening i backed into a damn mailbox. I was turning around on a very tight road barely any room. Didnt know i hit it till i looked back and the mailbox was against my taillight. I pushed it back about a foot and when i pulled forward it went back to its original position thankfully.

No damage done will check tomorrow im sure the guard will be scratched a bit but no harm to the tail lights

Pushed it back a foot and it went back into its original position? I think that's considered hit and run with criminal property damage. Unless there was a spring built into the base of the mailbox stand. Never seen one of those. I'll bet that mailbox is leaning as I type this. Just hope no one got your liscence plate number. ;-)

    Dean the mailbox is fine

It didnt happen in indiana either.

ok, on a more serious note, what's your guys opinion on Chromed factory aluminum wheels?

    Ryan,
Sounds like you need to get one of those Poron backing alarms like they been talkin about over on the Tahoe/Yukon thread! Let's see, $200 for prevention, $400 to fix the dent and scratch in the tailgate...hmmmmmm how's the math add up here. Now seeing as you weren't in Indiana, might this hit and run be an interstate federal situation....better watch out for the black Crown Vic sedans cruising around your house! Might be the postal inspector...they got more clout than the FBI! LOL

Seriously, guy, I have been thinking about one of those since I backed into a car in a parking lot when my windows fogged after I got into the truck on a cold rainy day...$500 to the Taurus, - $24.95 + tax for the cute mini propeller hitch plug cover on the 'ado. Adjuster said insurance rates won't go up.....yeah right! Wonder if they'll give me a discount if I put one of those back-up things on my truck?

    Red,
Factory wheel is a factory wheel...they got to put 'em on to get the vehicle off the assembly line. Chrome will pit and rust...had many a chrome reverse wheel in my day. Depending on what your intended purpose for the vehicle...steel should be stronger than aluminum, but heavier for unsprung weight. May not cool hubs, bearings and rotors as well as aluminum...gotta figure out what you're going to do with the vehicle.

i agree on the chrome pitting. right now it's more of a preference thing i guess. the factory wheels are OK, but these that have been chromed, are a bit bright. i guess what i'm asking is, what do any of you guys think of the chrome look on a new truck?

never backed into anything yet with my truck but, last week when on one of the jobsites at the coast, a laborer came in and asked who owns the red truck. right away i was seeing "red" and answered "i do why?" this kid then tells me " i barely bumped your truck eh". he and i lucked out cause it turns out that the dumpster he was movung for no apperent reason put a small gash in the plastic step in the center of the bumper. no biggy as it got replaced the next day, but i was sure ready to tie this kid to the bumper and drag him around awhile. LOL

You been reading about Jasper, Texas...huh?

Chrome on a truck would be OK depending on the color combo...Let's see, IMHO, 2tone truck dark top light bottom, not, too much bright to causee a clash of color. Single subdued light color might look OK as white or pewter needs some flash. Bright vivid or heavy single color, red, black, blue, or green; too much contrast. I have the Dark Charcoal Grey with a Pewter bottom and went with aluminum for a softer look.

I was looking at that poron reverse sensor on the web.. It doesn't really appear to be designed for pickup trucks though..
    a. which model were you thinking of?
    b. where would you mount it? it says not to mount it on the bumper. So I guess you could put it low on the tailgate, but not too low as the bumper will probably intefere with the signal..
I don't think there's enough flat space on the tail lights either..
    c. it appers the module the that the sensors plug into is designed to be in the rear of the vehicle, but must be kept dry. (works great if you have a trunk, or an SUV type of vehicle), but on a pickup truck?

    What are your thoughts?
  • z71billz71bill Member Posts: 1,986
We have different taste - I like the look of a dark color truck with crome. IMO Black with crome wheels is the best combo. A white truck and crome wheels I am not sure about. I want some contrast between the truck and wheels so they stand out.
  • bessbess Member Posts: 972
How bout a white truck with black wheels? hehe.. enough contrast? j/k.

They have an online special of $50 off of certain items. Type "Edmunds" in the comments section and receive another $50 off. Yep, that's right $100 off retail. Not bad. Of course, if it doesn't work, doesn't matter.

    Bess,
according to their website, either product no. 9983 or 7202 will work on a pickup. 9983 is $149.99 after adjustment and 7202 is $129.99.

I ordered the 9983 last week. Not sure on whether it'll go on the Denali or the rado as the wife drives the Denali....but I backed into a Taurus with the rado. Damn Fords.....

    Bess,
There is a post on the Tahoe/Yukon any details thread that outlines how someone installed one in a SUV. What caught my intrest was that the sensors were mounted below the bumper and slightly forward to prevent damage. The center sensor wass mounted in the license plate recess. Though the wiring was run into the back of the SUV through the tailight recess and the module was mounted in the back, the kit comes with 26 feet of wire to get it up to the front of the vehicle. Seems to me that one could snake the wiring up through the same looms that are used for the tailights/trailer harness along thee chassis and up into the cab where it might be mounted under the center console with the LED display readout mounted in the dumb empty space in the overhead console.

Oby, thanks for the heads up on the extra discount...makes the mini3LV a pretty good deal.

Ryan, better get one NOW if you keep backin' into stuff...hehe

Z71, you have a point...like I said though in my opinion...I like the more subtle look...like something is different but I can't quite put my finger on it...that's why I like Oby's grille. I think that is why they call stuff like this "customizing"...let personal taste rule...course I'm so far out that I haven't won any shows...guess I'm too subtle hehe lol

Red, you better be real nice to her if you want to play with her new toys...I was married to a Sicilian girl for 7 years...she still holds a grudge after 25 years I'm told!

Guess I better get over and order me a back up sensor.

White truck with black wheels would be unique. May as well get the black wheel flairs to match!!Or if you like the blended look get white wheels and tires. LOL I guess anything will match with white. I have the same problem with my Pewter color Silverado - I have thought about getting some after market wheels, but I think crome wheels with a pewter truck looks lame. Having a hard time finding wheels that look good. I wanted to get some heavy duty mud tires - put them on my stock wheels and use the new wheels for some Michelin LT M/S tires. IMO even the so called A/T tires are not that great off road, they get gummed up with mud. I know I can't stand the road noise of the agressive mud tire for every day driving. So I would switch tires and wheels at home before I go off roading.

Question - Some people say narrow tires (245 's) are better off road than wider tires (285's). My prior trucks have always had 31 10.5 15's. Any opinion on this? If I do get some dedicated mudders should I stick with 265's - go up to 285's or down to 245's?

  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Damn ok i had NO room to manuever. I had a curb to the front of the truck and a small ditch at the rear. Wasnt even looking in my side mirror only the passengers mirror. When i did look in the drivers mirror mailbox was against the truck. NO DAMAGE.

Funny thing is i almost had her drive home. I begged her to cause i wanted to drink but she didnt want to drive and hr and a half home on the expressway with my truck.

BLACK CROWN VICS? Hmmmm none of those but there has been a few black subs on my block since i got home from work.

    hehe

TIm yea a curb then someones front yard with a few trees.

    DEAN

Hey do you know alot about the hypertech? Well ok last wk i reprogrammed for the new tires. Today i changed the shift firmness and speed limiter. I went back in and checked to make sure the tire size stayed the same and it went back to stock (after i had reprogrammed firmness and limiter). Do you have to reprogram everything when when you do a change?

Also got the crap scared outta me when i was done i put it in reverse and the truck didnt move. I was like uh oh so i put it in drive no go. Dumb #&#^#* me forgot to take the parking brake off.

This weekend I visited a truck accessory installer. Had a chance to look at a few different acc. for my truck. I have a question for you guys with aftermarket mats (no huskyliners, sorry Ryan)
    1) How was the color match to your interior?
    2) How was the fit from front to back, side to side in front seat positions?
    3) If you have an extended cab, did you get the second seat mat and how much of the floor does it cover with the seat up?

I test fit the Lloyd Ultimats, and was surprised how much the recommended set didn't cover the factory carpetting.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Around this way husky is the only way to go from my experience.

Easy to maintain just wipe dirt off.

Fit is great and they do thier job. Floor mats arent supposed to stay pretty

They look like a fine product. I'm just not a fan of the diamond plate look. I also saw the wade rail caps this weekend you mentioned. They are cool. I'm going to get a set for sure now.

Did you make sure it down loaded your tire size in the first place? I know that sounds like a silly question but...After programming it you have to make sure that it goes from "0%-100%" it takes about 10-15 minutes.... Just checking. Especially after that mailbox thing. Dude you have to know your limitations, that is a big truck- a mans truck..I hope your girl wasn't with you to see that.

    hehehe...

I will second Ryan's recommendation for the Husky Liner floormats. Smikes, despite you not liking the diamond tread pattern, the Huskys are the best heavy duty mat I have found. This is the second set I have owned. When I sold my old truck, I was going to put the factory mats back in, but the buyer was a hunter and asked if I would keep them Huskys in. They fit very well, clean up real easy, and cover a large area for protection. The rear seat liner goes all the way to the back of the extended cab for when the seat is up. A friend has another brand in his Suburban of which they are not nearly as sturdy as the Husky, the side wall to keep slush in is not as high, and the tread pattern is actually harder to clean(needs a scrub brush regardless). The colors are reasonably close for aftermarket. I guess you just have to decide what is more important--looks or functionality.

    Hypertech

Yes it worked it downloaded took about 12 minutes then it saidturn key off for 10-15 seconds then push any button to turn off.

    Did it all

Tim i put towels down over my factory mats for the summer till i got these. I have towels down in the back cause i didnt buy the rear set yet doubt i will.

I'm just about to the 3000 mile mark. I'm still looking at switching to Mobil 1 now, rather than waiting til 9000 miles like I did with my 89. Anybody have a reason why I shouldn't? I have decided to skip the Slick 50 this time. The Mobil 1 web site advises against it, for one. I'm still deciding on a filter, too. I haven't seen a Mobil 1 filter for the 5.3. I thought the AC Delco number was PF-59, but at K-Mart it says PF-58. I know there was an analysis of filters a while back that recommended these two filters. But for $3.09, how good is the AC Delco? I have to wonder if they haven't been built cheaper more recently. I can remember when Fram was a good filter, but it seems Allied started making them as cheap as possible when they bought the company. Thanks for your responses.

    Catchall mats that is.

    Ryan- HPIII questions

1- You do not have to set the parking brake when programming

2- You do have to answer yes or no to keep previous setting when it asks you

3- You do need to pay attention to what you're doing when you're doing it (like backing up or reprogramming)

4- Did you measure your tire the way that Hypertech recommends?

Sorry if I seem to be a wise [non-permissible content removed] but last thing I remember last night was about my 18th Beck's Dark and killing a 750 of Black Velvet Reserve. I do remember asking what we are celebrating and someone answered Martin Luther King day.....sure wish I knew this kind of stuff in advance as I would have stocked up on Tylenol.....
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Yes you need to set the parking brake. Today i tried programming and it wouldnt let me and i remembered the brake wasnt set i set it and all went ok.

I talked to hypertech about the tire size. I told them i set mine to 33" and the tire height is 32.84 they said 33 is fine.

The shift firmness so far is kinda nice.

Also The locker has kicked in a few times since i got the new tires and it seems to work alot better with the new tires. Kicks in quicker.

If the locker is kicking in quicker, that means the tires are spinning quicker/more than your old tires did.
