Ok in front of my house on the street is a patch of ice good sized cause the damn city sucks and doesnt plow well.

Ok when i pull out of my driveway and put it in drive i am usually on ice. When i hit the gas (with the old 265's) the truck hesitated then fianlly got some grip. With the new tires there is virtually no slip in the rear wheels.

I didnt mean that its kicking in more but when it is needed it works better

You guys do owe me you put me through hell

Oh yea first full tank of gas on the new tires virtually no difference.

    All city driving 13 mpg

I think it's kind of funny how you all have trucks with nice carpeting and then you lay down rubber mats over top of it. I deleted the carpet on mine and got the rubber flooring. Tossed in a set of Kraco truck floor mats - $20 for a set of four at Costco and not a bad fit. When things get really dirty I can throw the mats in the driveway and hose them down, as well as hose out the truck.
  • z71billz71bill Member Posts: 1,986
I sort of agree with 87lion - I use floor mats most of the time, but in the summer or when I take a long trip I leave the mats at home (or stick them in the back/trunk). Why have carpet that you never use?
Even if you cover the carpet with mats after 6-7 years it will still look worn out.

Don't get me wrong -in the winter with snow, mud & crud I use the mats.

Finally back down at school on the good old T1. Fifty times faster connection than at home :) Washed the salt off the truck today, it needs washed again. Hard to go from a dirty truck to a CLEAN truck. Takes more than one try. Noticed the pewter paint had a dozen or more small chips in the paint on the hood. I think someone said pewter is prone to that. Oh, mom was following me today on the interestate and my truck threw a rock and put a small crack in the windshield of the towncar. She was kinda mad. She said I can take care of getting it fixed. I hope you have a good day at school tomarrow RYAN. Best of luck. I think my first class is at ten tomarrow.

    Sincerely,

    Hunter

Ya need to do the mpg test now since you reprogrammed for the tires. The old mileage didn't have the reprogram so it'd be off a bit. How did you measure the tires to get 32.84? I didn't know they make rulers that accurate...plus you must have good eyesight to see .84".
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
    Dean

BFG lists the 285 as 32.8 tall"

I did a calculation and came up with 32.84 i forget what the calc is . To many formulas to remember.

Actually i only drove about 20 miles with the speedo not recalibrated. That was on the last tank of gas.

Good luck to you also Hunter

you guys start early back there. We don't start till the 22nd. I only have one small chip on the tip of the hood. (it's pewter). Does the tranny shift harder with the hypertech ryan? I would like to get one just for that. keep the bands from slipping.

    later, nick
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Heck yea it shifts harder. They dont call it shift firmness for nothing.

I didnt like it at first kinda felt wierd but after driving it a lot today i like it.

I also noticed it gave it a little more power.

I highly recommend the CatchAll mats by Nifty. They cover more area than the other brands discussed because they go partially up the center hump so they cover the area your gas pedal foot rests against. They look 100% better than those rubber ones because they are color matched carpet. Mine are charcoal and they match well. They hold water, mud, and snow because they have a raised lip and a stiff molded rubber backing. You can vacuum them like carpet or hose them down like rubber. I do both. Plus they fit the contours of the truck very well. I have a reg cab truck so I can't comment about the rear mats.

but then again. No one really sits back there except the kids.

    Ryan-

You didn't do the chalk test like the HPIII manual says?
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Red sounds like a nice truck. Now you have 2 in your family GRRRRRR haha im jealous now

Dean cant do a chalk test with snow and ice on the ground.

Pocahontas how is anything off topic? We have been talking about floor mats, HPIII, and reds new truck

Is it just me, or is this Pocohantas over managing this thread? Sheesh, with Meredith as long as we were talking about something truck related we didn't get cracked across the knuckles with a cyber-ruler. Oh, I better stay on topic...

My name is smikes, and I'm a 2001 Silverado XC LT, 4x4 Z71 owner...

Would discussion of the right gas for the Silv be considered an accessory? ;)

I've been running em all along, except for one PureOne Purolater filter, that reduced indicated oil pressure by 10 psi.

I'm with you Lion, factory rubber floor with Kraco's best $19 mats. Work fine.

Another 6" of snow to go with our two feet from last week. Getting my money's worth from the studded snow tires and the snowmobile. Still sore from two over the handlebar excursions last weekend. Rubber bed mat works great for snowmobile. Aluminum cover on tailgate getting eaten up by carbides....

I clicked on your connection above and behold, but what do I see???????? An INDIGO BLUE CREW CAB w/ black flares?? Nice truck though. Assume the black 2500 was traded in. Apparently a look became a test drive of which became a negotiation and purchase. Is that the one that you mentioned earlier that you saw on a dealer lot having the 8.1 litre? Ryan, you gotta check this out.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240

I test drove that and took it home for a while....check the silverado HD section for 10 pics of it...

I wanted to see a new CC....

I am steering towards ordering a 2002 LT CC about June or so....

That one had the 6.0/4:10's.....I did drive an ex.cab with 8.1/Allison 4:10's though..

If I got the 8.1/Allison ..it would be more of a toy than need.....we will see..

New 6.0 has more torque...same HP.....I just don't ant to take a step down in power from an ex.cab 6.0 to a heavier truck with same power....

    Still got the Black one......

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner on the Lloyd Ultimats.
I ordered mine thru Stylin Concepts. Total for both front and back was $129 less s&h.

I got the non-emblem S. Graphite and it matches my Graphite cloth interior very well.
They have 5/16" pile carpet. The 2 front pieces snapped into place so no moving around.
The back is 24" wide and covers the entire rear floor door-to-door nicely.

Bottom line, I don't get into my truck with a lot of mud and dirt on my shoes, so carpet mats work good for me. I just vacuum them once a week and they look like new again. They cover the floor nicely, and I'd buy the Lloyd Ultimats again if I had to do it all over again.

2001 Ext-cab Z-71 update: 820 miles and still absolutely flawless.

Tim, don't know if you garage your truck regularly, but remember to check the length of the crew cab. An ext. cab SB fits fine in my garage, but a crew cab most likely is a few inches too long for the standard 20' to 20 1/2' garage. Just a thought.
  • 99crewcab199crewcab1 Member Posts: 79
I have an appt tomorrow to have my fronts tinted. I'm trying to decide on 50% vs 30%. I like the looks of the 30, but the tint guys said the cops are real dicks up here in SB and I may get a ticket. I'll probably endup going with 50%. We'll see tomorrow.

I just had mine tinted. Just so you know they come stock (almost clear)with 70% tint. The deep tint (stock) is around 24%. I ended going with 15% on the sides and 5%(limo) on the back. If you want I have some pictures I could send you. If you've made up your mind already well then good luck.

I tinted my front windows 20% and it matches really well to the rear side windows and the rear window of my 97 'ado. I bought my tint from Checker Auto Parts for $12 and did it myself, not sure how long it will last, but has held up for 6 months already and it still looks great!

We will sure miss you if you do leave. Of course this may get axed for being off topic. Of course the farewell of a long standing memever should be on topic. And actually there shouldn't be a problem as long as things are close to on base. If anyone has a problem, just state it, or a question just state it and myself and others who frequent the topic will try and help.

    Best wishes

    Hunter

Would it make you feel better and stay if I was to go to bat for you? You know, like volunteer to let everybody razz on me for a week? Then maybe next week (or sooner if I can't take it), somebody else would take a turn.

To keep it topic: Would changing the oil from dino to synthetic be considered Aftermarket and Accessory?:-)

I think that you spread alot of good info. This place is for all of us truck guys to share our interests. You have a truck, you love your truck, so just ignore whatever is going on and continue on this thread. We all get off topic, but does every single post have to be about trucks? NO! If something is funny, share the info. If somebody doesn't want to read it, they can skip it. If they have a problem with that, they can stick it! People who are so uptight about everything really get on my nervs.
You'll make the right choice (STAY!)
    good luck bud,

Well, I give up on AC Delco. No PF-59s in this state. According to the Mobil people though, the Mobil 1 filter is a M1-206. That I did find. As for my Lund Interceptor, I took that piece of junk back. Although the dealer tried to not let on, I think he's taken others back. Anyone have experience with EGR deflectors? How about the GM deflector? I want to avoid one that causes the windshield gasket to flutter. Thanks.

As I was curious, I used a K&N oil filter on the last oil change with no disasterous results. It has a nut shape on the bottom of the filter for easy removal and install. So far...3000 miles...and no problem...about $10 at Checkers.

I guess everyone heard about KMart and their 2/$5 special on PF59 as they were sold out. Last time at the Denali dealer saw two pallets of the stuff being unloaded. Maybe I should have taken a case or two...LOL!!

Check out the Tahoe/Yukon topic....ya know what I mean....

Of course here there is more banter than on topic posts...which is normal. How else would this topic hit #1 so often and the host doesn't appear as much.

Throttle Body because of the wrong VIN#!
Can anybody explain how they read the VIN#

They said my truck had the new throttle body on it
and the problem is carbon build up. They cleaned it
and it's ok now. But for how long!

    Billy
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
From the VIN, they can tell that it's a truck, where it's made, when it was made, basic configuration. So in truth, that along with the plate on the inside of your driver's door will give them enough info to know if it's the old or new throttle body. They should also be able to check the part no. cause they will be different if you have the old one.

Last Oct. I bought a 2000 Silverado Ext. Cab. 2500 LS with most of the "good stuff" The only thing it did not have was the cool inside review mirror and they wanted way to much to put it in. Anyway I needed the truck to pull my boat and this is the first PU I have ever bought. Got about a 1000 miles on it with no problems.. so far. I still have my S-10 Blazer that I drive to work everyday. I would tell you what I have ordered for the truck but then I would need to go to the Accessories section. :) I think it a bit dumb to have three different section to talk about one truck... Well thanks for reading my post, and to let you know I have been lurking here for a long time. Reading this board is what helped me decided on the Silverado... along with dad's GM discount. :)

I have a Lund Trident on my '00 2500, no problems. If you go back through the posts (including the archived predecessors to this discussion), you will come to the conclusion that if you have the loose window molding, it simply doesn't matter what bug shield you get. As Red said, the problem is in the window molding, not in the bug shield.
