is the expert on what needs to be done to install the billet. I do know that the front end piece is a cinch to remove though, just not sure if it needs to be removed to install a billet....i'm gonna find out soon enough though, as you know who wants one on her truck now...
The only parts that need to be removed is the tacky plastic where the air flows into the radiator. Other than that everything remains as is including the plastic chrome across the front.
Did you try to email again or call for the info. The sooner you do it, the sooner you'll have it. Maybe the doc is on vacation.
Truck is completely quiet, no noise from any part of it, even when I drive over large bumps or jump up and down anywhere on the rear bumper. It was the crossover tool box lid latch that was the source of my squeak. Isn't grease a wonderful tool, so many uses.
Hey guys, I'm still in the dual exhaust buying mode, waiting for my tax refund from uncle sugar and have narrowed the choices down to a Vortex system (cheapest) Ravin (most expensive) or a Flowmaster (mid-range). The Vortex dealer (Big Al's) says that Flowmaster has not kept up with new truck technology and that is why he goes with Vortex. His system is $275-$300 with 2 1/4" pipes and a 3" tip with a 2 year warranty. Midas uses Ravin and will cost about $400-$450 for 2 1/2" pipes with a years warranty The other guys offer Flowmasters and Glasspacks for $250-$350. I'm leaning toward the Vortex but don't know much about them. Any suggestions?
Also I'm looking for some fog lights for my Silverado, does the Chevy dealer carry them or should I go to PeP Boys or Advance Auto and get them? It looks like I would have to cut holes in the bottom plactic piece of the bumber to make the lights fit.
Anyone notice a whinning noise coming from under the truck on the drivers side? It is really noticable when stopped with the window down or standing outside of the truck when it is running. Kind of sounds like it might be the fuel pump. It is most noticable when the outside temperature is 90 or above. I have a 2000 SB 2500, 6.0L, Xcab. Any comments?
yep, you are not alone on the fuel pump noise. mine has done this same thing several times. mostly when the fuel level is below 1/4 tank and it's hot outside. i'm not gonna worry about it since GM gave me one of their 100k/5yr warranties after i made my complaint to BBB about the lower end noise on the 5.3. it's like obyone said, "GM is giving out ext. warranties like cotton candy."
front end look - and save bugs and small stones from bending the radiator core fins. They also make a stainless grille but the holes look to big to stop the small critters and I prefer the blackout look. $45 and not tools or modification.
So your willing to spend $400-$450 on a catback system with only a 2 year warranty ??? Spend another $100 on the Borla System and get a million mile warranty that you'll never need to use. I bought mine thru Summit Racing mail order & had it in 5 days. Took one hour start to finish to take the OEM system off and install Borla, they fit like a glove, of course I only had 700 miles on truck when I changed out the exhaust system so everything came apart fairly easy.
I have the exact same truck as yours. I also have a buzzing or whine from the fuel pump on hot days. I'm not worried about it - all of them seem to make noise under certain conditions. My wife's Oldsmobile has had it off and on for almost 70,000 miles - still works with no problem. My old Dodge truck did it for nearly 200,000 miles, but pump never went out.
this pump noise gives the truck sort of a high tech sound, or could be there to cover up the diesel sound the engine makes. i tell ya folks, GM has a way of makin ya love their trucks.
There seems to be some confusion over the amount of oil to add and of course everyone is entitled to their opinion. The manual states 6 quarts. However, it doesn't agree with the dipstick. I don't know about you but I wouldn't listen to anything called a "dipstick" ya know.
lots of contraversy on this, but it is 6 quarts. i use the ac filter, but would like to try the K&N. i've also been changing the mobil at 6,000, and it looks almost as good as it did going in. could probably go longer, but for what i paid for the truck, i don't mind spending a little more for maintainence.
Book calls for 6 on my 6.0...but no...the dipstick don't agree. First change at the dealer the invoice said 7 qts....I was going on a trip and drained out a quart and it was too low!...put half back in...making 6.5. Took it in a few times more and same thing....7 quarts on the bill....I asked why?...they said it took 6.5 and they can't bill for a 1/2 qt.....
used 6.5 for a while..then I heard about the wrong dipsticks being used in some 2000's.......so I said heck with it.....back to 6...it's still in the checkered area....that's what matters..
A little low is better than too high and my lifters floating...
- Tim
..and yeah...M1 5-30 with a PF59......Like Quad said...they can't say it was the filter if you do have an oil problem....
I got my nerfs through Cabelas. Stainless steel, lifetime warranty. Best deal I could find and I thought it was nice to have my step pads say "Cabelas"...reminds me every time I get in of why I have a truck.
I don't have paperwork in front of me but I believe it was $525 inc/shipping, all stainless steel and of course their "million mile warranty" (I don't think I'll need it but I do hold onto my truck for at least 12 years so if I have a problem it's covered). It is a single in dual out system and I chose the split rear exit behind the tires. I have a couple of pics that show the exit points but nothing underneath.
As far as oil filter for your Rado stick with the AC-PF59, here in NY I pay $2.50 for it at Autozone and truck holds 6 quarts of oil. When in doubt after your change add 6 then recheck "dipstick" with truck on level ground. It should be in the hash marks zone on dipstick. When I brought mine in for a free oil change at dealers the guy says his book says it takes 7 quarts with filter change, I pulled out my manual to show him otherwise and had him remove the "extra" he added since he overfilled it. He wasn't happy about it but if he's changing my oil he better know what the hell he is doing and what the particular vehicle's requirements are! Ya gotta wonder about some of these oil jockeys these days!
I checked out your picturetrail site, nice truck. I love the caption on the last picture. How loud is the exhaust? I want something louder than stock but not so loud that my son can't sleep in the back seat. Did you install it yourself? If you did, how was it? I have been considering systems, originally I wanted a flowmaster or Gibson but from what I've been reading its worth the extra money for the Borla or a PV(??? I think obyone has this one right???)
I finally had a opportunity to get a good recent mileage reading on my 2000 Xcab 2500 6.0L with a 3.73 rear end and 14,472 miles - drove from Oklahoma City to DFW airport and back this afternoon. Everything is original equipment on this truck. 407 miles, 24.566 gallons = 16.57 mpg - best I've ever gotten out of this truck. Drove 70mph with cruise on, A/C on, with a head wind going south and about the same amount of wind coming back north. Includes approx. 20 minutes of idleing at the airport. Outside air temp ranged from approx. 94 to 102 degrees. Seems good to me! How's this compare to the results the rest of you fellas get with this same vehicle configuation?
2000 2500 Ex.cab SB 6.0 4:10...I drive it hard...always got about 12.5 MPG....since it turned 30K...it's a whole new truck..gets about 15-16 MPG now........75 highway with AC on max and fan on high all the way....100 plus outside..
Hey Guys Where can I find the drl headlight cut off switch?? Seen it around here sometime back ? Anybody remember ? It fits in the dash under the cargo lamp switch right ? looks like factory.. If anybody remembers please post Thanks.......Geo
2000 2500 ext. cab SB 6.0 3.73 - got 16.8 MPG on my last road trip from Houston to Corpus Christi and return. 65 to 70 MPH, cruise and AC on, outside air temp about 97. Got 17.0 MPG on one trip earlier this year. Truck routinely was getting 14.2 to 14.5 MPG on everyday average driving. Had the computer reprogrammed a few months ago and mileage has dropped to an average of about 13.7 to 14. Power does seem a little better after the reprogram though.
If you have a 00, 01 all you have to do is push the button on the dash that normally would turn your dome light off, and push that button 4 times and your dlr & lights will go off you will have to repeat this when you re start.
I know about that quick fix. But some months back somebody found a site with a custom made switch for a GM truck to shut them off and turn on when wanted or needed. Thanks tho.... RYAN Where is that switch ? Remember anyone?
I knew you would remember. Thanks these drl and auto headlites are driving me nuts. Can't sneak out of the bar or home at nite. Couple of guys at pickuptruck.com are looking too !!!!! Thanks........Geo
I just got one and installed it this morning. I didn't do anything to the factory grill because I wanted to be able to return to stock if I wanted to. Well I am obviously going to have to do something because I don't like the way you can see the stock grill in the back. My question is, did you paint the stock grill black as SS suggested or did you remove it entirely. I was going to paint it but I figured why bother, you might as well just remove it since painting it would ruin it anyway. Does it add stability to the grill assembly? I'm just wodnering what other people who have this grill have done.
Shocks don't matter ref ride height unless you get into max extension problems. Crank your bars until you get the ride height you want and then go get the front end re-aligned by a reputable shop. -- Don
I have my finger on the send button as we speak for 4 brand new bilstein shocks. Now all i am waiting for is an email back to make sure they are available
Hey, you have the new bodystyle, right? Or so I thought... Anyways, the dome override only works on the newer bodystyle, my '99 classic wouldn't work either.
As for the rest of you, anyone besides me still prefer the older style still? Everytime I see one, I wish mine hadn't been smashed. Oh well, just my $0.02... -Eric
I've been told it's up to a the dealer to warranty something if it's actually out of the time & mileage limit. Seems that if you push them a little they may bend. I had a power steering pump replaced on my previous truck, a '94 GMC, and then @ 10,000 miles later, out of the factory warranty period and over a year and a half of use the second pump failed-called GMC customer service, raised a little heck, they called the dealer, the following week, I took the truck in for them to replace the pump-NO CHARGE. I figure the worst that could have happened is they would have told me they wouldn't cover it.
I recently ordered a '02 Silverado Crew Cab 1500HD. It has the 6.0L V8 engine with the 4.10 rear axle ratio. I was wondering if there is a big mpg. difference between the 3.73 rear axle and the 4.10 or not? Anyone out there that could let me know, I would appreciate it.

I seen a trucl like mine all decked out but it was gold with chrome grill guard and side steps and it had black flares. Looked very tacky
What needs to be removed? Whole front end (lights?)

To all you Mobil 1 users.
You are using Mobil 1 5w30.. now is it 6 or 6.5 quarts??? I have an 01 Rado 5.3 ext cab.
Also do you recommend the AC Delco PF59 or should I go with K&N?
