actually prolongs a tranny's life. And since it works for two, one even being blue, I would theorize that in all probability it would work well for you too.

BTW, I looked at my s/s tailgate protector and it is made by PUTCO.

I have the black flares and it still worked ok. Maybe it's because I painted the bowtie and the grille egg crate black, too.

Ya know the guy in the truck didn't mean to damage your truck either but I could have sworn I saw the Lawn Mower Man in the passenger seat with him laughing his [non-permissible content removed] off & drinking a stout beer!!

Hypertech is supposed to firm up the shift points as well as recal speedo for BIGGER tires, so I guess we will see a posting on e-bay for a used Hypertech unit now huh ?

If you got the plate number from the truck the company IS responsible for damage from their payload leaving the truck prematurely !! But remember he didn't really mean it, bwhahahahaha

Leave for a weekend and i get torn apart

    Fishing pics to come soon

Was complimented many times on the blue truck with black fender flares.

HPIII for sale soon? Not mine i have mine programmed for the 285's and it works fine.

Yes ray i took off the shift firmness but still have the tire size set.

I got a few more chips from rocks this weekend (why do they tar a road then put rock down its stupid) I got em from the tires throwing them up Oh well i just cringe and deal with it now.

I got a new sticker also for my back window. Goes under the rear light says like a rock with a bowtie under it (all in blue)

When I start up my 2001 ext. cab 5.3L it sounds like a diesel for about a minute and not just when cold. It didn't when it was new. Now about 16K on it. Also when it gets above 70 degrees F. (ext. temp)in Seattle it pings very softly and at lesser temps if I am pulling a boat (8,000 lb.). On pulling the boat out of the ramp I have to use 4WD auto and the front end growls when I turn on dry land 30 yards further to park the boat to clean it up. Has anyone had these noises? Are they serious? Thanks for the help.
  • roger350roger350 Member Posts: 157
Cold start up knock, is common in these engines, and many people have it even when it isn't cold. The 6.0L are notorious for it. The GM Service Manuals say it is normal if it quits within 90 seconds I believe. This probably means they won't fix it if it goes away before 90 seconds, but who knows? I just recently got an oil analysis back and it indicated a critical amount of copper, (could be bearings or oil cooler). I am interested in hearing if anyone else with the knock has had similar results? Rumor is that the fix will be new pistons, installed by the dealers. Many people seem to think it will be a new short block, because GM wouldn't have dealers tearing into engines, but they replaced rings on the Vettes that used too much oil, so they aren't opposed to letting dealers rip into our engines. Perhaps the sheer volume of work required for all the trucks would lead them to replace shortblocks, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

As for the pinging, this is also some what common. I run premium to avoid the possibility, and have never had the pinging. Try going to mid grade first and see if the pinging comes back?

I would use 4wd Hi at the boat ramp, and once you have gotten up the incline, put it back in 2wd before turning. I'd bet the growl would go away? Turning in 4wd on dry pavement isn't a good practice.

this isn't a Tahoe board but I figure you mechanics will probably be able to answer this here. My wife drives a '97 Tahoe 5.7. The radiator overflow tank always seems to be empty. Thermostat has been changed once already. Any ideas?
  • morin2morin2 Member Posts: 399
Lots of possibilities for lost coolant. Try the easy fixes first - check hose clamps & Replace the radiator cap (cold!) & while its off, check for Dex-Cool gelling - a problem we had with a late 95 3/4 ton Chevy conversion van. If that doesn't work, have it pressure tested ASAP. Good luck,

also check for anti-freeze smell under the hood. my 96 5.7 leaked anti-freeze at rear intake gasket. it was repaired under warranty and 2 months later started leaking at front intake gasket. much easier to find

If this was a fishing trip, where are the fish? I realize you would have to have the truck in the picture to stay on topic. Show us some fish!

That pic was taken with a real camera. Just came out blurry. No fish pics ran outta film before we even went fishing. We went to this fair and they had a hot air balloon launch and my gf took a bunch of pictures of them taking off and stuff. Ill post some of those tonight. I do have a pic with us fishing.

Did you really say this? "(why do they tar a road then put rock down its stupid)"

Haven't had your engineering economy class yet, have you?

"Haven't had your engineering economy class yet, have you? "

In fact i have and i got an A

I know why they do it and its to save a ton of money but it sure does ruin a vehicle fast. Guess they dont care about that if they dont have a newer vehicle or drive on that road.

You may have forgotten i change my own oil, did the rear end fluid change, lube the chassis.

Yesterday i tore my ext cab seat out to locate a thud.

In about a week and a half ill be installing new shocks
  • seeligseelig Member Posts: 590
your rear seat out to install new shocks??? never heard of anyone doing it that way before......
is there something you know about shock installation that we missed?
  • punjabpunjab Member Posts: 102
Let's take it easy on 'ol Ryan to get back to Silverado's....I know that lot's of you have the HPIII, and I soon will also. I am finding huge price differences on the net, so where and how much did y'all pay for them?

My best bet for a new one is $299 + $4 shipping. Worst I've seen is $389 + 8% tax + $8.50 for shipping. Ebay's not much help 'cuz those folks want a king's ransom for a used piece of equipment. Thanks in advance for any help...
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
$279.99 at a local parts place for my HPIII

YEA I TORE OUT MY REAR SEAT TO PUT IN NEW SHOCKS Tore straight through the floor board

I get no respect here. Maybe i should go elsewhere

We can't wait to hear the shock story. Just make sure you snatch them plastic tabs off the shocks as soon as you take 'em out of the box. Makes the installation a lot more fun.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240

    19975 on the odometer

Changed 1 grease fitting to a 90. What a pain in the rear. It was easy to put in but taking it out wasnt fun. I was full of grease (thanks service dept now i know why i am doing it myself i dont leave globs of grease)

Checked all fluids (read a post over at pacific audio about burnt trans fluid and it scared me.) All fluids fine

As for my rear drivers side squeaky brake i removed both rear tires. Rotors look like $hit. ALl rusty. Had my dad check em out. Turned the wheel and you could hear squeak. Took a file, sandpaper, and an air hose and took off the surface rust (ill post a crappy pic of what i am talking about). Took it for a drive with dad in the bed. NO NOISE for now. guess this will be a monthly thing (removing surface rust).

    HINT HINT

Front wheel wells you know inside there the plastic. Well i sprayed some tire foam stuff in there (i couldnt get it clean with soap) let it sit and it cleaned it real good. Just thought id pass this on

    NEXT WEEK
    1. Oil change
    2. Hopefully new shocks for my truck and my dads (his S-10 is at 99996 maybe ill go drive it for 4 miles today haha)

Anyone remember the web sight for that stuff?
I checked it out not long ago after reading the buzz, but don't recall where and forgot to mark it. I want to try putting it between the cap boot and the back of the cab. The cap salesman told me the boot will wear the paint off. Uhg! Has anyone else tryed this? Thanks for the help.

was hopin you'd figure it out by now.......but the hot trick to eliminating brake squeal is to use Zaino on the discs......Z-2 should do it. if not, try silicone grease, you'd be suprised at how far you'll go with no squeaks.....LOL
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
how far ill go? RIGHT INTO A WALL

i may be dumb but i aint stupid
