haha
I checked back about 60 msgs and found nothing regarding my question, so if it has been beaten into the ground prior, I appologise.
Looking into a 2002 silverado. Standard Cab, 4x4, long bed, 3/4 ton, basic work truck.
In this configuation, it is only offered in the HD version. Correct?, any opinions why?
And what is actually included in the HD versus a simple 2500, any real chassis beef-ups, or just a cool looking sticker :-)
looks like an HD option is only about 100 bucks.
also, what is the word on the 6.0L engine, problems?, fixed for 2002?
they are 8600 GVW...as is the 1500HD.....but the 1500HD being a crew cab has farr less capability than an ex.cab or reg cab.
A regular cab 8600GVW 2500 is almost the same as an ex.cab 2500HD with 9200GVW...being it has less weight in the truck/frame itself. Take out 4WD and the capacities go up even more.
6.0 engine problems....mine has 41,000 miles..has a slight tick on start up when cold....uses no oil...no problems what so ever. Don't worry about it.

only certain options though
I believe it is ext cab 4wd and reg cab 2wd? Look at edmunds pricing for 02 they list the LD but only certain body types
haha
I wonder how many LD's (7200) were actually sold?...can't see too many people getting a 5.3 with a 2500?
- Tim
2500,----> gw=8600, payld=3152
2500hd,--> gw=9200, payld=3152
reg cab, 4x2
2500,----> gw=8600, payld=3638
2500hd,--> gw=9200, payld=4108
does anyone know what differences between these models, real chassis changes, shocks, visible differences, etc.
Realistically, this is just a curiosity, because for the reg cab 4x4 is 2500hd only. I just would like to know what I got, in real hardware terms. I know the HD is required to get the 8100 engine, but wondering what the differences are assuming the 6.0L is choosen. Thanks
Visual differences BULDGE in hood
I looked a bit more and the heights are greater and more ground clearance with the HD vs LD for the same models, so there has got to be something of substance changed or added underneath. I will look for the buldge only on the trucks!! The customer is not myself, that is why I have not been on the lot looking, I will probably take this opportunity however, to stop at the dealer and look for myself. Never miss a chance to car or truck shop. Im addicted.
I'm making it back every once in awhile. Like I said before, this job is a lot tougher time wise than the last one, so I can't make it on very often.
If you don't remember, I've got a 99 Z71 LT. I've got the Firestone P265s on it. A buddy of mine is getting rid of his 2000, and he is offering to give me his Goodyear LT285s. He originally had the firestone p265s on his, but he upgraded. He thinks I shouldn't worry about the difference as far as speedo recalculation goes, but the service manager at the local dealer I talked to claims it will really throw off my speedo and they won't reprogram it. I've also heard it throws off the shift points, and it can affect gas mileage.
I'm sure some of you have done this - what do you think?
Thanks,
Mark
Shift point i seen no difference with the change but then again i also changed the program with an HPIII programmer
In some cases, the extra speed (actual is higher than indicated) maybe enough to get you a ticket instead of a warning.

....I need more coffee!
LOL
It really comes down to looks if you are getting a 6.0L. Yeah the HD has a little stronger frame, and axle, but if you like the 2500's looks better, and want a 3.73 with the 6.0L for the gas mileage, go for the regular 2500. It will still do the job just as well as the HD.
Oh, one last thing, the HD actually has lower ground clearance than the regular 2500, but I think that was alos documented in my post last year.
I went with the HD because I liked the looks more, but they are both great. Good luck.
only if i can find a set of rims for a good price
One of difference is FE9 (Federal Emissions) and VCL (Fleet Clean Fuel). The question is what is the difference and how does it effect the truck (performance, mpg, maintenance, ???)?
Thanks for any help.

Removed the chrome off the pass side mirror and painted it blue. Looks GREAT!
Tomorrow i am doing the drivers side
Ill post pics asap
You may ultimately have a body shop paint it for you. Don't know how much they would charge for two mirrors. If you plan on doing the platic chrome that runs across the front of the truck, you could have them do all of it at the same time. And I wouldn't recommend Maaco or Earl Scheib.
1.removed chrome peice off mirror
2. sanded (scuffed) surface
3. applied a bonding agent (surface modifier)
4. applied primer
5. applied paint (few coats)
6. applied clearcoat
7 let dry
8. put on truck
FINISH PRODUCT (have drivers side to do tomorrow)

Did you sand between coats of paint for adhesion? Especially for the clearcoat. Let dry between coats? Watch the clearcoat carefully, it will have a tendency to crack in a couple of months depending on how many coats and how you prepped in between the coats. Seelig could probably advise you better on this.
if it cracks oh well it was easy enough to do and ill resand and redo it over
doubt it will though i am guessing ill catch a rock before anything

please don't tell me you put all the layers of prep, prime, paint and clearcoat on all in the same day........
Neat Z-71 or 4x4 decals etc........
Primer sprayed on 1 coat let sit 10 min then sprayed on a second let sit 45 min (15 over the recommended)
first coat of blue paint let dry 45 min (30 min suggested)
second coat added after that
Clear added an hr after the last coat of blue paint. Clear stuff basically dries on contact. I let it sit for 1-2 hrs then put it back on the truck. Basically took all day. I did the drivers mirror today i havent put it back on the truck yet.
Also i used a fan to help dry.
it was 75degrees out when i did this
So far so good.
