You should not only go after the birds that leave droppings but also the trees that harbor them.

Got a question - might have been covered, but I got a little dizzy reading through all of he posts. I have a 99 Z71 5.3 Auto 25K mi. Every now and then, It feels like the truck tries to start in 2nd or 3rd from a stop - very intermittent - will go 6 or more weeks w/out it happening, then will do it once or twice. Anyone else had this problem? It's done this since 4-5K mi. Thanks!

does your tranny act up when it's up to operating temp?
or is this condition at all temps?
  • timfarntimfarn Member Posts: 289
Has the rock catcher on the front of it ever tangled with the driveway rock?
  • wang2wang2 Member Posts: 29
The trans is at operating temp when this happens. Any thoughts?
  • seeligseelig Member Posts: 590
not sure yet, but mine has a 1-2 bump in after what seems like a slight hesitation. it shows up when at operating temp. when the truck is cold, it shifts perfectly. going to the dealer with this in a couple days, and i'll report what i find out.

I remember the guy across the street had a Lincoln in his driveway. What happened to the driveway? That bird problem can be solved with a nice chainsaw from Home Depot...well maybe even Menards.

small blue truck is the neighbors.

hmmm cut down my gf's parents tree? That would be a good one. Might come outta that one missing an arm or leg
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
now that makes sense. I thought that the pic was taken in front of your Dad's house. Was wondering why it looked different.

Course a liitle roundup or agent orange would do wonders for that tree and leave it for the city to remove it.

I've been keeping my pickup out by the curve, but nomore. Someone thought it would be cute to key it. All the way from the front headlamps to the rear on the passenger side and on the driver's side on the box. Had to repaint the entire passenger side of truck and driver's side of the box. The body shop did an awesome job though.

    Nice looking truck!!!!

Are those wheels the "Python" by American Racing?
If so how do you like them? I've been thinking of upgrading my wheels to those.
And how do you like the Cooper Discoverer AT's?

Haven't had time to sign in awhile and appreciate the posts, but was surprised to see only two regarding tire pressure. Reading the one about running rear tires at 29 psi seems dangerously low, but then again I'm thinking about the Firestore fiasco and low tire pressure. I'm still leaning towards continuing to run 35 all around, though the inside door sticker says to run 30 front/35 rear. Would still like to hear from others!
    Thanks, Barry
  • seeligseelig Member Posts: 590
go ahead and run 35psi.......no wait, might as well go with sidewall recommended pressure......just don't get ticked when you see the center of those 35 dollar Generals wearin out..you'll see.
  • jake2500jake2500 Member Posts: 6
I like the Python rims. Have had quite a few complements on them. I have also had a few other people make up their minds on purchasing a set for their pickup as well after seeing these. As far as the tires go, I have no complaints. The tread wears very little. When I was looking at tires and wheels I was leaning toward a set of Goodyear's. Our local tire dealer in town talked me out of it though since he originally had Goodyear's then switch to the Cooper's. He noted the Goodyear ran terrible in wet weather and made more road noise than the Cooper tires. He also mentioned that they were able to balance the Cooper tires easier than any Goodyear he's seen in that size. Recently had a friend purchase a set of Michelin's. They seem pretty nice. Not a lot of road noise and slipping on wet roads.

    $35 tires?

    dayyyyyyuummm

wish i could find some bfgs/michelins/goodyears in that price range.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
    dealer buys them for $25.

    jake2500

I assure you, the Michelins do not slip on wet roads. Coopers are a great tire. Goodyears are considered middle of the road. Not bad, but then again not really great.

Just make sure you put winter air in them thare tires....don't want no summer air no more...

Ryan, don't forget to put the winter air in yur tires...but you may want to wait until after you install the new muffler bearing...you did get a new muffler bearing didn't you??

You know, I came back and asked for other opinions and don't understand the snide remarks. All I was asking was an honest opinion, and even though I don't post often, I enjoy reading the comments. All I was asking was whether 35 psi was a good pressure to run on all four. I was not slamming anyones previous responses. I had only stated that there were only two replies and wanted to see what others were doing. Reread my post.

    Winter air...give me a break.

I used to run my Generals at 30 psi all around and raise the rears to 35 only when carrying a load in excess of 1000#. These are COLD pressure values. I believe the max pressure is 44 psi for the Generals. I wouldn't go anywhere near that pressure. 35 psi maybe okay tho it does cause a lot bumpier ride especially if you're not carrying a load.

I am working on a 98 Z71 with a 350 in it. It runs rough and has a check engine light on. It blinked a few times and is on all the time now. Does any one know how to retrieve the fault codes with out the use of a computer. I learned how to get them from my wifes plymouth on Edmund's town hall......Thanks! from Albuquerque.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
IMO, you'll need a techII unit to download the error code. It will also reset the light. Can't think of any other way to do download without the aid of a computer.

has been a long standing joke here for each season change.....

..but you better double check ...just to be sure!

The remarks about changing the air in your tires from summer air to fall air are a continuation from conversations that started a few years ago, and are mostly directed to our little buddy Ryan.

He was a younger whipper-snapper back then, and we older gents were guiding him thru all of the concerns and technical mumbo-jumbo that he needed help on. Granted, a lot of it was B.S., and unfortunately the topic of changing the air type in your tires with the changing of the seasons keeps popping it's little head up every 3 months.

I keep my P265/75R16 Firestones at 35 psi all of the time (both front and back). That is what the sticker on the door says too. They are wearing great after 7,300 miles and no problems with traction in slippery conditions.

Those comments about winter air and fall air were not directed at you. I apologize it was just a little inside joke between a few of us.

Guys In my older age (almost 22) i am becoming much wiser hehe

    ???....22!!??

You still tiny grasshopper young one...

  • seeligseelig Member Posts: 590
please don't take any remarks as being snide......the response to your post asking for more advice on the tire pressure for the Generals, was for your advantage. if you feel ok running 35 psi, then by all means do so. what we(or i) intended, was to save you the time and trouble to find out where the General tires are going to be best at air pressure wise. this has been discussed here a few times, and almost all agreed that the Generals rode and wore better at 30 psi. Obyone once posted a way to read the tire print on the ground, and 30 psi gave good results.
with all the negative talk about firestones, they are (along with goodyears) the tires that actually ride and wear better at the recommended tire pressures per the placard.
why Chevy chose to even equip their trucks with the Generals is beyond me......they are a really cheap tire, not to mention they have been the root of vibration problems for quite a few of the trucks they were installed on. so like i said, if you feel comfortable with 35 psi, then by all means do it, but you'll probably see the center of the tire wear prematurely. there is a local tire shop i talked to about this and they said it happens on all the Generals they install, and the ones they have taken of trucks that upgrade to Michelins also display this same wear pattern. if you'd like to talk to the tire rep i've talked too about this, then let me know, and i'll email his ph.# to you.

Sorry that you felt the comments were snide, but like others have said, it was just a running joke between a few of us...just like the muffler bearing.

In no way was I trying to make a crack at you, just trying to help keep the humor alive in here.

I run my Fstone Steeltex tires at 45 psi at all four corners (2500HD) and bump up the rears to 60 when towing or hauling dirt, rock, mulch etc.

I have to chuckle at the Winter air thing. I grew up in a small town in upstate NY with not much to do during the Summers. I hung around the local gas stations and washed windshields. The "changing the air" ploy was a favorite to pull on unsuspecting females. Then all the local Merchants were in cahoots and had a Friend and myself going all around town trying to find a "meat stretcher", and a "sky hook"! Fun times.

LEFT HANDED SCREW DRIVERS ARE PRETTY HARD TO COME BY ALSO
  • stobarstobar Member Posts: 110
Thanks guys. Appreciate the responses and didn't know about the running joke. Guess that's what happens when you jump in on the tail end of a conversation! :)

Anyway, after reading Obyone's comments, think I will drop it down to what it says on the door (30 front, 35 rear). I agree with you all on General tires - next time I'll by Michelin!

    Thanks again,
    Barry

    BARRY

you may want more tire spressure in the front since thats where most of the weight of the truck is (engine).

35 all around isnt a bad idea
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
If you carry a load....where is most of the weight then?

BTW, you had Firestones on your truck didn't you? Hmmm...think they are better or worse than Generals?
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
"If you carry a load....where is most of the weight then?"

No ^#%^# sherlock but more often than not you will be unloaded HENCE the front of your truck being heavier. How often is he hauling alot of weight?

Yes i had firestones. Dont know how they compare to generals never had em.

    Ryan
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
Then how do you know what pressure to put in em if you never had em? doh!!
  • seeligseelig Member Posts: 590
can you also explain what ^#%^# means? does it have something to do with air pressure?
also, why did you dump the firestones and put on the BFG'S?
  • noobie1noobie1 Member Posts: 326
Yeah, so anyway I called Bilstein this morning and it turns out they're located in Poway,Ca, only about 15 miles from where I work. The guy says they don't make them for 2500HD's yet, though they've been getting a lot of calls about them, and they'll probably hit the market in two or three months.
Ryan, I also asked if they'd built your shocks yet. He said "Ryan who?" :)

I've driven on them on rental cars and trucks a lot; don't get them wet. Also had a set on the van I "accidentally" had to drive cross-country last week; made me really nervous every mile of the way. I can easily live with well taken care of Firestones, but OEM Generals are really, really bad tires.

I kinda needed them because after work i am sweaty and there is a possibility i will get dirty. I dont wanna ruin the seats.
  • minikinminikin Member Posts: 389
Just give up and go get a set of Edelbrocks. You'll be glad you did.

I am about to open up a can of whoop &#^&# (put in your own word here) on them. Offroadwarehouse has my rear shocks but bilstein has the fronts on backorder. Still waiting and i placed my order 1st wk of sept.

Tomorrow they may get a call from me
