Maybe it's just sensitive to the crown of the road.
  • psychonautpsychonaut Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the response. The question I have then is if it is sensitive to the crown in the road is this going to cause pre mature tire wear?

Visited a big dealer in Phoenix in December, around 50 Liberty's on his lot. A Sunday, and I was one of only two shoppers in an hour period. Advertised at just under invoice, 7/100,000 warranty (understand this was extended thru March 02), $500 off for vets. Seems a good time to buy. Is there more room for haggling? Maybe some percent off listed option prices? I'll be paying cash. I rented a Liberty 4X4 Sport for a week, impressed, and have been doing my research. Thanks, Don

How do you all find the passing power on the highway? I tested one and you needed to absolutely floor it to get any life from it between 65-75 mph.

You are definately getting a great deal and should get it. I paid MSRP and still think that I got a great deal, plus I supported my local dealer.

My powersteering fluid is very very low (after 1200 miles)... and I really don't wnat to take it to the dealer for this simple task. If I go to the auto store to buy some... what should I look for?
    any ideas....

Check the owners manual, it states all fluids that should be used by the vehicle. Great source of information. BTW, do you notice a problem with the steering? If so, then I would either bring back to the dealership (perhaps a leak or faulty container), or bring it to a trusted mechanic. I would be concerned about losing power steering fluid after 1200 miles. Good luck.

    psychonaut-

This seems to be a common problem with Chrysler vehicles whether they're Jeeps or 300M's. Can't really say if it's the tires or the design. If I were you, I'd call the manufacturer IMMEDIATELY since they are guaranteed by the TIRE manufacturer and NOT Chrysler.

I HAD this problem with my 99 300M from DAY ONE! 10 1/2 months later I resolved the problem MYSELF with Goodyear BECAUSE I e-mailed them the 3rd day I had the car. All I was getting from Chrysler was EXCUSES like above- crown in the road, they all do that, characteristic of the car etc.!! BULL!

My Goodyear tires were defective. At 11,000 miles I got NEW ones from Goodyear for ZERO $$. Other Chrysler customers were not so lucky or just accepted the old crown in the road "theory"! My car went STRAIGHT after I got the new tires, no matter what lane I was in!

If you're retired and like to spend time at the dealer, then continue to have them check it out or replace part after part because they have NO clue OR just contact the tire company ASAP and correct the problem now!!

Just my .02 from EXPERIENCE with CHRYSLER and their "5-STAR" dealers and their factory reps!

I finally took the plunge, and put a deposit down on a Liberty 4x4 today. I drove it twice this morning, and it absolutely is a fun vehicle to drive.

I also lucked out and found one with ABS brakes. I was concerned about buying a car without anti-locks, but the one I selected had them.

I also feel I got a great deal. The Jeep Dealership here in the Chicago area gave me a very good price.

I did my homework and research. Thank you Edmunds (as well as those who helped me on this message board) for your help.

I pick it up next Saturday. Something to look forward to.

    Hi,

I am getting ready to order my Liberty and wish I could get the options of the limited with a 5 speed. Anyone know how I could find out what options are going to be available for the '03's? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hey all. I am going tomorrow to look at the Jeep Liberty once again. The list price for the basic Jeep Liberty Sport is $21K on the lot. What are some prices paid for the basic Jeep Liberty Sport. I appreciate any help.

    Thanks,

Has anyone here received their letter for the airbag recall? They had it in the news more than a month ago and I've not got any info on it. I'm pretty sure mine will fall into the recall cause of when it was built. Anyways, if anyone has got a letter yet let me know.

Are these mandatory for the customer? Here in Central NJ, the DC dealers won't budge on this.
  • cdkelly23cdkelly23 Member Posts: 52
JackyBailey asked about a price for a Liberty. I ordered one on Saturday that is a Sport, has anti-lock brakes, the Option 27B package and a few extras (sunscreen glass, tilt steering) for around $23,400. The sticker was around $24,500. Keep in mind this price includes the 7 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty Jeep is offering until the end of March (which I believe is worth around $1,600).

I believe I negotiated a good price. I'm very happy with it.

Good luck with your search. I test drove probably 7 different models of SUVs, and nothing came close to the Jeep Liberty.

I hope the Jeep dealer you are working with is as good as the one I'm purchasing mine from here in the Chicago area.

    rob57551,

According to the research I did previous to purchasing a Liberty, yes these are legitimate
fees paid by the dealer and passed on to the consumer. They can be as high as 3% of MSRP
so plan accordingly. They're just like the destination charge, dealers have to pay it and pass it on to us. Cost here in Ma was $300 for adv. fees.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your search.

I've noticed a damp/musty smell as well, when the Jeep is first started, then it goes away after a little while. It is pretty disgusting. If anyone knows how to fix this, please share!

Until it rotates off, the New Vehicle Spotlight up on the main Edmunds.com page features the Liberty (sponsored by Jeep).

    Here's a link.

Could the odor just be some of the "new car residue" burning off? I've noticed in all new cars I've purchased, there is always a bit of an odor (in addition to that new car smell) that tends to dissipate after a short while.

That would be my guess. You might take it into the service department and see if they have heard similar complaints.
  • lyngolyngo Member Posts: 28
There is a TSB (technical service bulletin) out for this problem. It isn't a recall for obvious reasons...not very threatening but is annoying I guess. I don't have that problem but evidentally enough Liberty owners do to warrant a TSB. I think the fix is putting a solution to kill bacteria in the vent system?? not sure about that but the odor you're talking about is a problem for some Libby owners.

Noticed in the "fine print" on the Jeep commercial that a "deductible applies" with the 7/100 extended warranty. Just out of curiosity, does anyone happen to know what the deductible is for worked performed under that extended warranty?

    Thanks!
  • cdkelly23cdkelly23 Member Posts: 52
I believe a $100 deductible applies to the warranty. At least that's what my salesperson told me on Saturday.

I'll get that in writing from him.
  • klbrmbklbrmb Member Posts: 41
I went to www.nhtsa.dot.gov to research these. There are alot of them. I wanted some more info on a few and they charge approx. $34 an hour to get the info for you. Does anyone know where I could find more info on these without if costing me an arm and a leg?

    Thanks

You can get the entire text of the TSBs from alldata.com (and likely some other places). They have summaries for free (as does Edmunds in the The Edmunds Maintenance Guide).

Am considering purchasing a Liberty Limited. My only concerns are reliability and resale. I realize this is a new vehicle but did anyone else have these concerns? This vehicle is for my wife. Thanx for any response.

I pulled the trigger and purchased a Jeep Liberty on Saturday. Like you, I consider the reliability of a vehicle before I purchase.

From from I've read, and talking with dozens of Jeep owners, the Jeep is a good vehicle to purchase. Jeep owners are loyal to Jeep. And, there's a reason for that. They've been happy with their experience with Jeeps. I would venture to say Jeep owners tend to buy more than one Jeep during their driving lives.

Jeep doesn't pretend to be what it isn't. The Liberty isn't an SUV on a car body. It's a true SUV. The Honda CRV is just a Honda Civic on an SUV frame. The Toyota RAV4 is just a Camry on an SRV frame.

I wanted an SUV, and I know that's what I've bought.

I'm satisfied with my decision. Jeep is a name that has been around for a long time. And, read all of the postings on Edmunds from long-time Jeep owners. You will see many satisfied Jeep owners.

I've wanted a Jeep for a long time, and I'm finally getting one. I believe your wife will enjoy driving the Liberty.

To me the key to reliability is how the owner takes care of his or her vehicle. If you change the oil every 10,000 miles and never take care of the vehicle, it will become unreliable.

If you maintain it and not treat it like a rented mule, you shouldn't have to worry about reliability.

    Good luck with your decision.

I remember hearing that they had to get the parts to fix the air bag in supply first. no sense in issuing the letter if no parts are ready.
  • nanibellenanibelle Member Posts: 2
Just picked up my silver Liberty Sport with 27B package and CD player. It was $21,709. The warranty is powertrain and covers 215 parts. You have to purchase ($1125) the Extra Care warranty package for coverage of 800 parts. They also had a maximum care package that was even more. I got sucked into after the saleman said, "Have you ever owned a 4 x 4 vehicle before?" "It's not that they break a lot, but if they do...."

I love the Liberty! First few days off the lot I have averaged about 15 miles to the gallon but I was ready for that! It is a real fun SUV to drive AND to own!

Your link didn't work for me.

Why on Earth would Jeep run an anti-hunting ad? Doesn't that eliminate about 16 million potential customers?
  • cdkelly23cdkelly23 Member Posts: 52
Somehow, I find it hard to believe that Jeep would sanction such an ad. Could it be that this is an ad of an animal rights group, and just happens to use a Jeep vehicle in the ad?

I haven't seen the ad, so I don't know. But, groups such as PETA will stoop to any level to further their agenda.
  • vin_weaselvin_weasel Member Posts: 237
It's a little one-sided but if what they're saying is true, then it's really really stupid. DC should really watch how they are trying to sell these vehicles. Hunting is one of the reasons people have bought Jeeps.
  • mad0865mad0865 Member Posts: 176
If you read through the TSB's from the Edmunds.com web site posted earlier, a lot of them sound like customer complaints rather then actual technical problems. For instance:
CUSTOMER COMPLAINT OF A BROKEN RADIO ANTENNA.

Ok, their antenna broke. Is that considered a TSB? I wouldn't think so.
  • anonymous02anonymous02 Member Posts: 1,538
You have to look at the message. Edmunds doesn't let you wraparound urls, so you have to cut and paste the second line into the address.

I guess it WAS a real Jeep ad, but due to pressure, they pulled it. You should still write them and let them know their errant ways. Look at how KMart stock fell after they took Rosie as a spokesperson. Their stock is through the floor.

(Columbus) – The people at Jeep have responded to the calls of sportsmen and stopped running an advertisement that “took a shot” at deer hunters.

Last week, the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance sent a call to action for sportsmen across the country about a commercial being run nationally by Jeep that glorified anti-hunters and vilified sportsmen. Sportsmen immediately took action, flooding the company with telephone calls and faxes expressing their displeasure with the ad.

According to a letter received today, these actions prompted the auto manufacturer to cancel the commercial.

“We did not anticipate this story line would evoke such negative emotion among some viewers,” stated Jeff Bell, vice president of marketing communications for DaimlerChrysler, Jeep’s parent company. “Obviously we underestimated the sensitivity of this issue. [B]ecause this is so emotionally charged, we will no longer continue this campaign.”

In the ‘Deer Hunter’ commercial, a man drives a Jeep through a wooded site with two deer tied on top of the vehicle. As the Jeep drives by, hunters are shown in the woods, in close proximity to each other and the road, admiring the man’s deer. The driver of the Jeep then drives to a location that shows a “No Hunting” sign. The Jeep stops, the man gets out and releases the deer that appeared to be dead. The driver tells the deer they are safe and the deer bound away. In the background, other Jeep owners are shown doing the same thing.

“This is concrete proof that the sportsman’s voice should not be taken lightly,” said Rick Story, vice president of the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance. “When the voices of the millions of sportsmen in this country all speak as one, a great deal can be accomplished.”

Sportsmen weren’t the only ones objecting to the commercial.

Jay Menuskin, facilitator for Prebul Chrysler-Plymouth-Jeep in Chattanooga, Tennessee felt the commercial was offensive to his clients. He called the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance to “apologize for the tasteless ad that did not serve any useful purpose.”

DaimlerChrysler is to be congratulated for quickly removing the ad from the air once it began hearing from sportsmen. Although the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is satisfied with DaimlerChrysler’s decision, the fact that the ad even made the airwaves is still cause for concern.

“It is unbelievable that any company competing for customers would take an action that would alienate a huge group of them,” said Story. “I would certainly hope that DaimlerChrysler officials get a better handle on how their campaigns will be received before they launch them across America in the future.”

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance protects the rights of hunters, anglers and trappers nationally in the courts, legislatures, at the ballot, in Congress and through public education programs. For more information about the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance and its work, call (614) 888-4868 or visit its web site, www.ussportsmen.org.

"Because of our innate involvement with nature and outdoor activities, we felt we could use the hunting analogy in a tongue-in-cheek way to highlight the “go anywhere, do anything” capability of Jeep vehicles."

Translation: We thought we could pick on those un-PC hunters. However, they're really organized and they came at us like an angry mob. We are forced to backpedal. But we didn't apologize. Hope they still have an outside chance of buying a Jeep/Chrysler product.

  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    I use this method:

[A href="http://www.goes.here">link] (substituting angles for the brackets).

But you are still limited to 116 characters or so within the quotes above - longer urls throw our margins off.

Hello, just an update. My Stone white Lib is FINALLY built and was due to go out today!
Now I am excited. Knowing it is finally built makes all the difference.
I was wondering how everyone is doing on getting a decent interest rate. I would love some input on Banks that are low interest right now.
    Thanks!

took delivery of my Jeep Liberty Limited the first
part of November so i could do battle with the mid-wests snow during my 100 mile per day commute, no snow until yesterday. Loved that liberty on dry roads but it is even more impressive on snow and ice even though we only had 3 inches can't wait for the big snow so i can
go out and play. 4 wheel anti lock brakes were a huge plus

For the best rates try here: http://www.lendingtree.com/stm/default.asp

The rates I got for a 6 year loan were great. 7% that was in November, however I didnot go through them cause my credit union offered slightly better if I had them withdraw directly from my checking account. Try Lending Tree though... they take all you information and look for the best rates. It is so easy.

Good Luck... and hopefully the next two weeks or so will fly.

Went to look at a Liberty hoping to like it as I have had good service from a Cherokee. Its just too small and won't work for me.
  • lyngolyngo Member Posts: 28
You know I think in order to become a TSB, a certain # of complaints need to be registered with the manufacturer. So yeah, the broken antenna sounds like a customer whine but they must have received a group of the same one in order to merit a TSB....I think...don't quote me on it ;-)

As for the Liberty being too small....from what I understand the Libby is LARGER than the Cherokee in every way....must be an illusion? I believe there's still some Cherokees on the lots...you may want one of those :) I'll bet you can still get a great deal! I couldn't be happier with my Liberty. For a first year model, I'm impressed...have had absolutely none of the minor problems complained about (odor, yada yada yada) It truly is the best vehicle I've ever owned....fun to drive too!
