What are people paying elsewhere??
There's a dealer here offering $199 over invoice..
Is this a deal???
Would appreciate any feedback - I can't wait to get behind the wheel!!!!
Im considering purchasing a Jeep Liberty but also considering the Saturn Vue as well.
The only thing that bothers me now about the Liberty is its poor fuel mileage. Coming from a 4 banger with 95 horses and an outstanding mileage estimate gives me a lot to think about.
Other than that, I love everything I have read about the Liberty and seen at the auto show and am just about ready to join the Jeep family.
The new Saturn Vue on the other hand reminds me of the reason why I purchased my Tracker over the RAV4 and CRV when those were rated much better than my Tracker.
Unlike the CRV & RAV4 my Tracker is a real truck and thats why I bought it.
I now see the same thing between the Liberty and the Vue. The Vue was built to cater to soccer moms and dads and people that most likely wont use it to have any real fun.
To prove it, all you need do is compare the two just a little.
For instance the Liberty comes with an option of automatic or manual transmissions and the Vue only offers it with the smaller engine. The Liberty is a Jeep (and that speaks for itself because Jeep does not make cars). Im not sure what platform the Vue is built on.
Ill admit that there is a lot I like about the Vue. But, just as it did with my Tracker, the need for a tough vehicle that could take me camping and hiking and not fall apart on a rocky trail seems to be winning out.
Anywho, I make my purchase in Sept so I still have time to think about it. Oh, and I cant wait to be able to attend my first Camp Jeep.
Man I think I have already made my decision. But just to keep me thinking Liberty maybe you guys should remind me why its better than the Vue.
Be well all. :-)

I have a 2000 Tracker 4 door 4 cylinder and a Liberty with 5000 miles on it. The tracker on the Interstate (70 mph) uses the same amount of fuel as the Jeep. The difference in comfort and drive ability is like night and day. As you probably know the Tracker keeps you busy in a crosswind which is hardly noticeable in the Liberty. All I know about the Vue is what I have read in the magazines,I think the two are totally different vehicles.
I did say that "coming from a 4 banger with 95 horses and an outstanding mileage gives me a lot to think about".
I compared my Tracker to the CRV & RAV4.
My main issue is with the fuel economy of the Liberty vs. the Saturn Vue. There lies my dilemma.
However Im irritated with some things that other manufacturers do which ultimately steers me toward Jeep.
I have 2 Saturns (1992 SC & 1994 SL2) which were bought new and which my kids are now driving. Both have over 100,000 miles on them and are still going strong. I waited until the VUE was out to make my decision on which vehicle to get.
There are things about the VUE that I liked and things about the Liberty, but the main thing was how it felt to drive the two. The VUE looks cheap on the inside, whereas the Liberty Sport that I have looks nicer and less plastic. The Liberty also seemed more like a truck than a mini-van to me. (For me this is a good thing - I want something that I can use for hauling and towing.)
And the Liberty ended up costing less than the VUE and that is including the warranty.
Just my 2 cents...
Another thing. The Jeep is a truck, the Vue is not.
And when I added up all the options that I wanted no the Vue it ended up costing 2k more than it would cost with the same options on the the Liberty.
Thanks Cheryl
Any other current owners wanna push me more towards the Liberty? lol I think you'd only need to blow at this point. :-)
Of course, Saturns are plastic on the OUTSIDE also.
It would be nice to get an extra 100 miles before filling up.
The diesel used is Italian made as mentioned before, and used before in Grand Voyager.
Well tested.
New 2002 Grand CHEROKEE will have a diesel from Mercedes Benz, 2.7Common Rail.
Jeep owner from New Zealand has mentioned later this year this MB Diesel could be found from European Liberty (Cherokee) also.
This is not sure, I think 2,5 CRD will remain some time---
But more spec, check www.jeep.com, and go for example worldwide and check Great Britain (England) pages.

happy owner of Silver Limited 2.5 CRD
So that sounds great for such a heavy and capable vehicle as the Liberty. Of course, the engine would have to be reliable in both hot and cold climates and not command much of a premium over the regular gasoline engine to make it worthwhile. Buyers such as myself wouldn't mind giving up some 0-60 speed for great low end grunt and lower fuel costs. Hey, it's not a sports car.
Unfortunately, limited production models in the US market typically cost more and are in short supply. Not good for the buyer.
Maybe this proposed rise in the EPA minimum milage figures will get the car companies off their butts and give us consumers more efficient options for all types of vehicles on the road.
1. If the 4WD in a Liberty (with Command-Trac) is not engaged does it operate FWD or RWD?
2. If operating in 4WD on wet or slippery roads and the road conditions improve to damp or dry and 4WD remains engaged does damage occur? ........ how soon? ......are there any warnings to get out of 4WD?
3. Is there any easy way to determine when to use or not use 4WD short of experience and / or a damaged vehicle?
I would appreciate any guidance you may offer.
Driving range can be up to 400+miles depending the speed. 88 mph highway takes you long ways.
Also the environmental issues with CO2 values are quite minimal.
The diesel fuel cost here 0.870 Euros => $ 0.756 per liter => 0.2642 gallons.
It is ok with serpentine roads here, it heats inside faster than other big diesels I have experienced. Ok I think, even I have to say V8 would be nice in any case....

I have been trying to find info on it but have not been very successful.

Who wants an electric car out in the woods where there are no outlets?
ROTFLMAO!!!!
i think ive got the same problem as yours. Am hearing some humming coming from the rear of the car. Not sure if its related with having a full tank of gas but the sound seems unusual.
any update about this?
Actually, good mileage, good torque, and low maintenance are all great reasons for running a diesel. That, and you can run off home heating fuel if you feel a little risque!
ROTFLMAO!!!!
Probably the same person that wants a gas powered car out in the woods where there are no gas stations.

What happens when you submerge an electric car?
The bad news is it would be extremely expensive. I believe I was quoted at $6,000 to have them installed.
This would represent nearly 1/4 of the total price of the Liberty to begin with.
I swear by ABS brakes. But, I know I couldn't afford to pay this kind of money to have them installed aftermarket.
Not sure why Jeep and other makers don't make ABS standard equipment. I believe the government will require them at some point.
Anyone know?
