meade, I commented about Yahoo groups in #195 - middle of my post.

PF - I find edmunds much easier on the eyes(don't wear glasses and I don't need to) and easier to track new messages. Maybe I'm weird, but I think I've met one or two other "weird" people who feel the same.
  • the_big_hthe_big_h Member Posts: 1,583
It's just the most comprehensive Protege-related forum on the web, period. You'll never get any work done if you hang around there too much...
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
But it doesn't have to be one message at a time. Click on the "Messages" link and then click on "Expand Messages" at the top of the page. There ... now it looks a lot like Edmunds! Take the time to explore all the ways you can customize stuff and I think you'll find it's just as good as, if not better than, here.

And no offense -- but this forum hasn't been the shining example of speediness for the past few days, and it frequently hangs and doesn't let me into it for sometimes as much as a half-hour at a time.

There's an option over at Pclub...not that you'd want to ever post there, that let's you just track new messages being posted.

One good thing about Edmunds is that you can find info on all types of cars...it is not "autocentric" so to speak.
  • chicagoprochicagopro Member Posts: 1,009
Turn your back for one second and folks start talking about you. :)

Cafe vs. the Meaderator's group: liked 'em both for different reasons.

Pclub: yep, I'm there too, but the demographic is very different from most other places, and I since I'm not a 20-something male it's not always easy for me to hang in there, d00ds. Pclub does have an amazing amount of info, however.

will have to be modified. I had planned on picking up an early model Miata and tuning it. I sat in a Miata today, and I'm sorry to say that I'm a bit too big for it. I could only drive it with the top up, for one thing. My shoe didn't fit between the clutch peddle and the foot well wall to rest on the dead peddle for another. That, and the steering wheel was between my knees. Oh well. On to plan B.
  • mazdafunmazdafun Member Posts: 2,329
I think the Miata is sized best for people 5'3-5'7. Hopefully, the new RX8 will fit me better.

I recall the mid to late-80s RX7s fitting me (snug, but it still fit). Perhaps you could find one of those?
  • dsm6dsm6 Member Posts: 813
Fun cars. Good suggestion - I may look for one. Ever try out a Toyota MR2? I bet that's too small for me as well.

The problem is, I like the way small sport cars handle, but don't fit in many. Such is life. I may have to go for one of the Detroit bruisers (stang, camaro, etc.). Better torque, I guess, but there's more to driving fun than torque. Besides, I'm hoping to add more power/torque to whatever I pick up anyway - and I want it to be reliable afterwards.

Heck, half the fun will be looking for the right car anyway!
  • maltbmaltb Member Posts: 3,572
But if I could, it would be a Miata. At 5'10 and 180, the car suits me well with a little room to spare.

Right along the Protege theme, the car has a lack of power but nothing else brings back my 12 y/o go-cart days like that thing. Someday my garage will contain one, next to the vintage Land Cruiser (I want my old one back). Not really sure what other "second" car I would need/want.
  • dsm6dsm6 Member Posts: 813
I think I'd like to get two "second" cars too. One fun car (MR2, RX-7, Mustang, ?), and the other a Ford F250 4x4. Which to get first? I know which one the wife would want first - the useful one.
  • maltbmaltb Member Posts: 3,572
    which is the useful one?
  • dsm6dsm6 Member Posts: 813
That is the point on which we disagree.
  • mazdafunmazdafun Member Posts: 2,329
As a passenger. No way I could fit in the driver's seat. My thighs hit the wheel when I scrunch down enough. I think you sit a little lower in the MR2 than the Miata.

Riding as a passenger in a friend's Miata was a blast when he drove through the foothills on the SF peninsula.

I was shocked when I read that.....and which car was that?

A souped version of the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO!!

not even BMW, Porsche or Ferrari can touch that.
  • protege_fanprotege_fan Member Posts: 2,405
    Holy Crap Batman! That's FAST!!!

Speaking of Lancers, I SWEAR I saw one last night! I have no idea how it got up here though as Mitsubishi doesn't sell their cars in Canada :(

Good -- mine will have less bugs. Thanks for being the guinea pig. My much-improved 2005 model will be fine, thank you very much.

(I figure Ford engines need at least 3 model years for the stalling, pinging and leaking issues to be resolved, and I seriously want the 6-cylinder.)

edited, that post sounded bad if you didn't know the context.

Thought about you tonight while I was eating a chicken and dumpling platter (with carrots, corn, and mac & cheese...and biscuits).

Yep, that's right--I ate dinner at Cracker Barrell (the closest one to me...and it's STILL an hour away).

And why didn't you ever tell us about that chocolate cobbler??? Dang, that stuff's good!

    Take it easy!

They were banned back in May from TH. I think they are back and posting under new TH user names? If you lurk, read and post around TH a lot, I bet you will figure out who they are.... stay tuned Pro2(Miss Cleo) is closing in on this intrigue.

That person seems to revel in flaming anyone slightly critical of Hondas (even if it's an obvious characteristic, and not a flaw).

    Leave it alone Larry.

Those two could stir things up enough to make it fun. Actually Cindy(ZZ79) was the one that made all sorts of outrageous claims about the H car's exaust not stinking. FX was mostly fair in his posts and contributed all around TH.
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
    ... you-know-where.

Larry, don't listen to maltb. Pat always needs a new challenge. ;-)

I'm the big, bad host in the OC. ;-)

Also, discussing members who were banned and may, or may not, have returned to the hallowed halls of TH is inappropriate. So, please use this discussion to talk about the weather, your kids' baseball/soccer game, your vacation adventures, the upcoming possible baseball strike...or...your Protege!
  • maltbmaltb Member Posts: 3,572
    geesh!
  • protege_fanprotege_fan Member Posts: 2,405
the baseball strike was averted? No? Shows how much I follow that game.

    You can't win for losing!

    ;-)

OK, after reading the Member Agreement, I think I've come up with a safe, legal subject allowable here.

    How's the weather?

    Meade
  • Karen_SKaren_S Member Posts: 5,092
...seems a bit cloudy from where I'm sitting. ;-)
  • mazdafunmazdafun Member Posts: 2,329
    Wish I had a window office. :(
  • meinradmeinrad Member Posts: 820
Now weather will have to be banned too since we are discriminating against those who do not have windows.

    Better try again.......
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
Hmm.... Some of you had a fine, very off-topic conversation going on just now on the Sedans board -- how come you clam up when you get here?

    :)
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
(and I'm just passing through, btw - believe me, I DON'T live here - heh heh)
  • vocusvocus Member Posts: 7,777
Having the sun around all day is not all it's cracked up to be. I sit directly under a huge skylight in our office. The light is nice, but the reflections can become very annoying sometimes on my computer screen.

Speaking of weather, when's it gonna cool off? I got a part-time job working in a warehouse (no comments, please) and it's hot as Hell in there! I work 6-9, and by the time I leave I am so sweaty it's practically unbearable. I hope the temps break soon. :)
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
What exactly do you do? I've heard your title, but it doesn't seem like a "warehouse job" kind of title.

Is this your main job? How you affording that $25,000 Jetta with a 15-hour-a-week job???

    Please explain!

  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
It's no fun after you get caught. Remember when George got "caught" by his mom in Seinfeld? (I've got a great .wav file of it in the Files section you-know-where ... speaking of off-topic stuff!)

Could you please discretely remind me of the URL to that nameless other place? My former company wanted their laptop back when I left and I forgot to get save it. My username is ibmarty.

    Thanks.

I work at a company called Vocus full-time (of course, where the SN comes from). My official title is "data specialist", but it includes alot of things. Data entry, researching contact info for people in the PR sector, managing accounts of people who host computers that record news all over the country, and other office duties. My new part-time job is working at UPS (the warehouse thing), that I just started this past Monday. I have been sneezing every since, because of the amount of dust there. So basically, this job is going to last about as long as a snowball in Hell. :)

But that's what I do. Feel free to check out my company's website at http://www.vocus.com.
