question is but what happens if you try to do so. do you rollover? do you understeer? or do u feel scared stiff and let go?
no takers for the g-force?
Reason why I ask this is: the amount of feedback that I get on my PRO when taking a ramp at 40mph is tremendous, with car trying to pull out. When I dorve a focus & escort on the same ramp at the same speed, they went thru as if the ramp was non-existant - like hot knife thru butter.
hope I get some better answers now...that u know the background.
You'd probably get understeer w/ too much speed for the turn in a FWD car.
I don't think you'd roll over if you were on flat pavement doing a slalom like in the mags, but if you cranked the wheel hard and fast enough, I'm sure you could roll in anything.
It's hard to roll anything on pavement. The only way they roll these SUVs in tests is to get the body rocking, not very typical of real life. Cars usually only roll once they leave the road. As Mike said it will understeer and plow the front wheels.
I was thinking of a case where you somehow were going fast enough and then managed to get the car turned sideways...but I think then you'd just slide on the tires unless the vehicle was really top heavy.
Now that I think about it more, I think you're right...it's the off the shoulder areas/road debris that will cause vehicles to roll.
But malt is right, some kind of rocking motion, and bouncing on the shocks is needed first.
The Consumer Reports ad on TV these days shows them pulling the E-brake on a BMW 3-series and jerking the wheel right, then left (or vice versa), causing it to roll over. Its doing a good clip - perhaps 50+mph.
So, basically, its possible, but very difficult to achieve in a sedan (unless you're trying to avoid a herd of buffalo in a park driving a high speed!)
I tried to find out more info on Marshal Power Racer tires, per the number Meade posted a few days ago (thanks again). I called Hercules, they only handle truck tires from that maker now. They sent me to Kumho, who said Hercules handles the brand. So I guess I bought one of the last Marshals in the US. Ugh...
(I moved this post, as recommended by Pat, from the main discussion, BTW.)
Also, I think I will wait until all my other tires wear out, and I will buy 4 Kumho tires from TireRack.com for about $100 each then have them installed.

I dreamed last night that I came to MAPP IV with my Jetta (which was weird, because I have not even planned to come). I was there with a friend of mine, and Larry's son (LJ I think, but don't hold it against me if I am wrong since it's been like 2 years since I have seen him) asked to see the key to my Jetta. I let him, of course. He came back, a short time later, saying the key was broke. It looked like the key broke off and was on another part of my keychain (which is REAL weird, because I have NO keys on the car remote ring). I was able to drive the car home though, but with the same key (really weird).
So I got all the way home and was trying to rush back to MAPP, but looked up and realized the clock said 9:37PM and thought it was too late. Then I woke up.
Mazda has announced the development of a super-strong injection-moulded plastic that can substitute for steel in vehicle bodies. The company says the new material is strong, lighter and less expensive to produce that anything that has gone before.
Since I work a lot with plastics, I'm normally suspect of applications where parts are exposed to heat.
At least they have some experience using similar material, so this should be OK, although distribution may not be as even as with glass mat molding. Mazda usually has good engineering, so they probably used a conservative safety factor.
Still, it's a good thing they introduced the Atenza/6 in other regions several months before we get them, so the new material can prove itself.
I especially liked the one about statues of horses. Here in Richmond, I can take it a step farther. We have a street here called Monument Avenue that has a wide median with trees and walking paths. Every few blocks you come to a traffic circle with a big statue of a famous Civil War leader on his horse in the center of it.
The horses and riders face north if they fought for the Union Army and south if they fought for the Confederates.
What's the normal representation .... 1. Horse has both front feet/legs planted on the ground = rider died of natural causes 2. One leg in the air = rider died of bettle related injuries 3. Both legs in the air = Rider died in battle
At least that's what they mean in some other countries, is it the same here?
found this review of the Hyundai Tiburon on the net:
"To understand what I’m on about, let’s examine the new HyundaiCoupé. Plainly, they wanted it to look like a Ferrari 456, but instead of buying one to copy, they went for the cheaper option: they sent someone to Italy and had him describe it to their designers down the phone.
So what they’ve ended up with is a Hilfiger T-shirt featuring an alligator rather than a crocodile. Something that’s nearly right. "

When I read that name on the site, I was even more confused.
now I remember...ur real name is Paul King.
sorry.
what does that indicate?
What happens if you slalom(or try to) above that speed?
G-forces:
MSP holds 0.89g. Does speed play any factor?
what if my car+tires hold 2g, albeit at 50mph? what good is that?
The last Protege tested on Motorweek looked really tight going through their slalom course.

Fast car...cannot slide....would it topple over?
what kind of feedback are you talking about. are you talking about actual G forces felt, the steering feel, ride, tire screeching, etc. ?
"pull out" are you talking about understeer, where the car isn't turning as much as you'd like to?
Not so with the escort & focus.
1. the softer suspension 'softened(ahem)' the buildup of the lateral acceleration to make it neglegible.
2. better seat(?) to keep you in place without flying all over the place?
3. you're just nuts

Then again, the Mazda6 is more akin to Nissan's Altima than the Honda Accord.
Oh well, still very happy with my Protege. What a great car!

btw, i sat in a passat drivers seat yesterday. did not inspire me enough to get out and get one, the way the protege did.
