"EZPZJPEZ"... just how many decades back do you go?!... :surprise: ;)
  • azlimazlim Member Posts: 9
As with most of you, I have completely researched the Azera and am very impressed. Virtually the only thing negative I have read is that the mileage is not that great. With everything else I will be getting, this is of minor importance to me.

Yes, it will take some getting used to, since I currently get about 30 mpg in my '97 Mazda Protege, but I'm cool with it. I don't drive a car fast or hard.

Frankly, I am obsessed with this car. I spend hours each day searching for more photos, reading forums, reading customer reviews, and looking at the brochure I got at the dealer. I can't get enough.

I'm planning to buy the 2007 Limited in Sage green, beige interior, with the Ultimate package in just a few months. The salesman told me there will be a rebate on the 2007 Azera soon, so I'm holding out for that. And I should get XM.

I want to thank all of you for the information you have posted. It was very valuable. And, it helps me to feel confident in my purchase.

    Any advice would be welcomed.

    Azlim :)

    RE 180
I have that exact color combination on my 06 Ultimate.
The car shows well, especially with the customn stripes I had hand painted.
The only negative about Sage Green is that it is not a color sold in the Korean market. Therefore, the Korean painted upgrade parts that are available on the internet sites are not available for my car. Such parts are the non "H" grille etc. As you are buying an 07, the lighted side view mirrors will be factory installed on your car.
The XM will be a great feature. If you can get a factory rebate, even better.

Thanks much both of you, the lights inside now light up the way I want them

I went to the lot yesterday... the dealer is closed on Sunday... but did not see XM listed on any of the 07 stickers. So, don't know if I will be getting it (build date-driven). I read that those who do get XM get a 3 month complimentary subscription. Then it's $12 per month I believe.

I don't plan to do any upgrades or replacements, so the color works well. I want people to KNOW it's a Hyundai and be amazed.

I should mention that I have a friend who has owned a Sante Fe for some time and really likes it, so this helped to seal my decision to buy the Azera.

Floridabob1 - are your photos posted here somewhere? :)

Airbag light on the dash is illuminated and won't go off. Has anybody else experienced this with their Azera? Ideas?
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    re; 185
Airbag light illumination is usually either from a faulty sensor or a computer fault, both warranty items. In either case it requires a dealer computer reset.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
A couple of statements in the owner's manual indicate that a seat track position sensor will also cause the light to remain on.

"Do not place any objects underneath the front seats as they could damage the seat track position sensor or interfere with the occupant classification system. Do not place any object that may cause magnetic fields near the front seat. These may cause a malfunction of the seat track position sensor."

Don't know if any of the above applies to the current problem , but it was interesting reading!...

Just returned from a trip to Biloxi from Michigan, with numerous stops along the way. Mileage was 26.9 bucking a 20-25 mph headwind for much of the time. The cruise was set at 3-7 mph over the limit.

Travel over the hills/mountains in Kentucky and Tennessee was painless, mileage did not seem to be affected at all in such sections, and with the great torgue available, the car only needed to downshift once in the whole trip.

My only complaint was that at the end of a long day, my rear was feeling it - the seat felt a bit underpadded.

I have had over twenty new cars in my lifetime and this one is the best. It is so much nicer than the Jag X-Type we traded. My first new car was a 1966 Chevelle SS396 and to all those who think the Azera needs more power, the SS ran high 14s in the quarter ( 360hp, 4 speed ) and so does the Azera. The Azera has a higher top end by about 15mph and get 2 to 3 times better mileage to boot. Motor on!

Cobrazera, do you have an SE or a Limited? I have a Limited and on a 12 hour trip from DC to FL, the drive was fine with no issues on seating. However...I'm sure you could purchase an ergonomic seat cushion that you could use for long hauls.

Glad you're enjoying your Azera though!!!

A fat butt also helps. Take it from me.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
No... no, really, you can keep that fat butt!... ;)
  • cobrazeracobrazera Member Posts: 352
My butt isn't really small, butt if you think a few more cakes and such will help.... By the way, I have a Limited with the Premium pkg
  • silverazerasilverazera Member Posts: 17
I have the same complaint and it happens after two hours of driving. The back of my butt to lowest spine. Something about the design of the drivers seat does not make them as comfortable as my previous cars. I'm planning on compensating by putting a seat pad down on long drives. I've tried moving the seat height and lumbar support in all directions and just haven't found that comfortable spot. I don't experience it in the passenger seat if my wife is driving. I don't think they put enough padding down or it was too soft an underlying urethane. This is a small peeve compared to my overall satisfaction with the car.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
Maybe my butt is "seat-shaped" as I've experienced no discomfort in drives up to three hours or so, to date. If anyone expresses interest, I'll post some photos for comparison... [evil, nasty grin icon]...
  • drdonrsdrdonrs Member Posts: 164
Have you all adjusted the "lumbar support" to see if it makes any difference? I have a rather balky back and it is perfectly comfortable as opposed to my most recent vehicles (Acura TL). Of course I haven't driven for more than a little over 2 hours at a given time. :)
  • theblackholetheblackhole Member Posts: 62
I'm 6'1" 175lbs. I find the seats in the Azera comfortable on longer drives. That said, I would like to have the rubber bladder for the lumbar support expand a bit more and offer more support. Overall the seats fit my fram rather well.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE:196
My eyes opened wide when I first read "rubber bladder". I thought that it was a cool new option for long drives.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
And I really enjoy the dual chamber pots under the concealing door in the center console!...
  • theblackholetheblackhole Member Posts: 62
Ah yes the old rubber bladder trick! One of the parents on my son's soccer team refuses to stop on long trips (8 hours)other than for gas. I guess they have the rubber bladder option in their van!

Other than a bit more from the lumbar support, side bolsters would be nice too.

    Cobrazera,
I am considering the Jag X-type and the Azera Limited w/Ultimate package. What do you like better on the Azera? Anything better on the Jag?
    Thanks.
  • cobrazeracobrazera Member Posts: 352
We had our X-type for about two years, and in my opinion, the only thing the Jag has going for it is the prestige brand name and the exterior and interior styling.

The ride on the Jag is much rougher if the roads you travel on are not perfect, although it does corner flatter. Interior noise level is a good deal higher in the Jag, and it's not as quick as the Azera, although the mileage in city driving is a little better. I would rate highway mileage as being about the same, 'though the Jag recommends 91 octane gas vs. regular for the Azera.

The main reason we traded ours, though, was the reliability issue. My son had an X-type with similar miles as ours, and when his tranny went south with a $7000 rebuild - my Jag was history.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
Both the Jag and the Mercedes are largely running on the nameplate (although I agree the Jag has looked really good for decades)! But since Lexus cracked the luxury car barrier and has very good reliability ratings (as contrasted to the black-balled Jag and Mercedes'), the "I am a MERCEDES owner" mantra is likely to fade even further as more demanding people look into other marques...
  • wanna_azzywanna_azzy Member Posts: 41
I really want an Azera, white, Ultimate pkg. I have located one with Nov. 06 build date. Should I feel confident the "clunk", and most other early production problems, have been resolved? The salesman told me, over the phone, they would probably discount $3,000 - $3500 off MSRP. Is this a good deal?
  • hjc1hjc1 Member Posts: 183
    for #203
No problems with my Azera...Also I getting an average of 26 mpg after several fill ups...Only 1100 miles on the Azera and it should improve with more miles
I got about $3500 off window price

    Cobra,

    I understand.

I have been considering buying the Azera for several months. I also have a tender butt & car seats need to be soft. It may sound humorous to many folks, but trust me, it ain't funny in the least...

I literally sat in the Azera for hours while parked in the dealers lot, doing a "butt test". I was a bit sore after 2 hours. First hour or so seemed OK. It took longer to really tell....

I have spent & wasted thousands of $$$ on cars in recent years that just caused a lot of pain & misery, looking for the right one. My basement is full of junkyard car seats & parts I have used to rebuild seats... It is easier to rebuild an engine that to get the seating just right. Ugh, it is a grind. I fully understand that the problem is me, and not the cars. However, for those looking for a comfortable car, they simply are not made the way they used to be. Remeber when Cadillac seats were like sitting in a comfortable living room chair? No more....

My favorite was a 1993 Sable. A totally unimpressive vehicle mechanically, but the seat & ergonomics were outstanding- at least for me.

My current plan is to buy an Azera replacement seat base from the dealer for a few 100 bucks, and rebuild it with soft springs like the older style (1993 Sable) seat design that is softer. If I succeed, I'll buy the Azera & install the modified seat. If the seat redesign does not work, I'm out a few hundred bucks- instead of yet another clunker that will cost me thousands to get out of (again).

I've been to several auto upholstry shops- those guys can add foam, etc. But they have minimal ability to really affect the seat comfort- I find that the comfort is in the base, not the foam cushioning.

    Sam

    RE:205
WOW! And I thought that I was anal.
There are aftermarket seat manufacturers like RECARGO. Some will even build custom seats, molded to your butt.
These are used by NASA and some fighter planes and race cars.
It might be cheaper to have your butt modified.

Re. # 203 "getting an average of 26 mpg" Wow, hard to believe...or, you are the one in the express lane with cruise control set at 59-1/2 that refuses to yield.
  • cobrazeracobrazera Member Posts: 352
If you doubt the Azera can attain 26mpg, just find a level, uncongested freeway. Set the cruise at 70 and reset your mileage computer. You should see a readout of at least 29 mpg. That "hjc1" got 26 mpg must mean he is doing very little city driving.

You can get back a bit of the gas you use in city driving by coasting up to stop sign and lights, although if there's anyone behind you, they won't care for your driving style.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE: 208
To achieve any where close to 26 mpg, a driver must be very carefull and drive in areas with no hills.
  • lightfootfllightfootfl Member Posts: 442
Getting a reading like this doesn't indicate "average" mpg, but only what is happening at the moment. It would be great if we could really get our mileages to be whatever that reset would indicate. Realistically, I would think that if he is getting 20mpg or more, he is doing better than 90% of the rest of us. ;)
  • jaymagicjaymagic Member Posts: 309
26 seems slightly high to me (great for him if its true). But I am getting VERY consistently 22-23, with a lot of city driving thrown in, including some idling while waiting.

I am seeing 27-29 for longer highway driving up to 80MPH at times. (Now have about 4K on mine). It is harder for me to believe that the majority of owners are getting 20 or less than him getting 26. On the 07's at least, I just find that very hard to believe. Certainly, I would expect those getting the low numbers are complaining versus those getting 21-22+, but I do not equate the few who are so upset they get on a board to complain, with the majority of owners who don't even know there is a forum, let alone post on one.
  • hjc1hjc1 Member Posts: 183
I achieved 26 mpg with diving 5-7 miles over the speed limit or keeping up with traffic.
This was based on driving 1000 miles in 07 Azera. I live in Wisconsin and drive 80% of the time is On the Interstate. Want better mileage? No jack rabbit starts… no hard braking… not trying to pass ever car on the road…….. I know it’s hard to do this at times because this car is so responsive. The last car I owned was a 04 XG350 and on a 4000+
mile trip to California I averaged 28.7 mpg and that included driving a lot in L.A.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
"26 seems slightly high to me (great for him if its true). But I am getting VERY consistently 22-23, with a lot of city driving thrown in, including some idling while waiting."

22-23 is what I'm regularly getting in "mixed" driving for my location, with nearly 8,000 miles on the car. I did get 26 mpg for a Walt Disney world trip of about 125 miles one-way, but there were several opportunities to "show off" ;) so I expect 26 mpg or so is what I can also expect for longer interstate trips, unless I take a vow of "highway humility"...

Codenamed the BH Sedan. It will have an optional 4.6 V8, RWD with 340 hp. It will start under at an amazing $29995. It will appear at the NY Autoshow in April

This is a Korean site that has been known to obtain sketches. Great looking car with Infiniti and BMW cues

Wonder if they will set up a separate division in the future to sell an upscale car like this. I find that even selling the Azera in the same dealership setup has detracted from the sales potential. Then of course there has been a total lack of advertising of the Azera. When was the last time anyone saw the Azera advertised on TV and or the press as well as the auto magazines? What exactly does Hyundai have in mind for the future of the Azera, one mighty fine car? :confuse:

I'm something of a Jaguar afixianado having owned four...and loved them. However, you must know that the "X" Type is not, nor ever was, a true Jaguar. It is a rebadged and very tricked out European Ford Mondeo. The Mondeo platform was a very advanced and competetive design when introduced in the late nineties. It has been superceded by the new Mondeo as seen in the latest James Bond flick. Also be advised that Jaguar is dropping the "X" this year and will no longer be offering an "entry level" vehicle. That said, believe it or not, I found the Azera to be superior in almost every way to my five year old Jag "S" Sport Type which I traded on the Azzie. The ZF transmision failed at 30k. No charge, but enough was enough! The Azera is much more than I expected from Hyundai. Price was not much of a consideration, but the car feels like a $50,000 car to me.
  • cobrazeracobrazera Member Posts: 352
I hadn't heard about Jaguar dropping the X-type, but it is in its 6th year, and needs a redesign to remain competitive - with their monetary problems, it looks as they have passed on that.

X-type sales, though, were greater than all other Jaguars combined.
  • stcroixboystcroixboy Member Posts: 63
Thanks for taking the time to update me on the X-Type's history and anticipated demise. I really wasn't aware of it and with my less than positive experiences with 98-04 Ford Explorers, I think that I may be well served to head the Hyundai way. Glad to hear that you feel so strongly as to the Azera's qualities.

Can anyone here explain to me the full function of the air quality system switch? Trying to figure out if I have a problem, or if I just don't understand the function. There are times when I can turn it on, and other times I press the switch and it won't function (light up). Other times it will turn on, just to turn itself off after a few seconds. I've tried it in auto mode, manual mode, stopped, and moving down the highway. I know there are sensors that control the system in auto mode, but why would it not work "24-7" if I turn it on in one of the manual modes? The owners manual has no info on this that I saw. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE:221
The air quality switch when in the "Auto ON" position allows the air sensor to detect foul air. It will signal the flap to close allowing the cabin air to recirculate. If the sensor does not detect foul air it will not activate the flap and bring in outside air to the cabin.

My '07 Azera/Ultimate just turned 5,500 miles, after seven months of ownership. I'm still very satisified w/ the vehicle! :D:D

In-town average MPG is 23.5; I run the numbers manually, and compare to the computer. The ride is quiet -- no dreaded clunk, ever.

Cruising round-trip from suburban northwest Denver to Santa Fe, NM, the average MPG was 28. I set the cruise at 80; bear in mind I drove through several mountain passes in the high desert.

The dealer replaced the silver-tone door protectors that run across both doors. The end near the rear wheels was loose on both sides of the car.

I do very much wish the car had an iPOD port; that's about it.

    Motor On!

I noticed my drivers side door trim- protector strips on both front and rear door seem to be lifting out of the strips. I assumed it was the winter ice getting behind the trim and expanding. I'll have the dealer look at mine on the next oil change to see if the entire strip needs to be replaced or if there is a way for the body shop to press them back in. This is the first and only flaw I have had with this car in seven months & 14K miles.
  • jaymagicjaymagic Member Posts: 309
Susan, nice to see someone else posting here that is experiencing what I am getting out of my Azera. I'm getting right at 24 mpg, up or down .2. Mine has 5,500 on it, too.

Love that Shiftronic in the mountains, we hit Blackhawk probably once a week. I also noticed the very ends of the silver strip lifting. I thought they were supposed to be that way, lol. I will check also.

I forgot, get a cassette tape output adaptor for your IPOD. Buddy has one and it works great. Very inexpensive. Just put the cassette in your radio.

If you want a cleaner look with no wires hanging out...you get a good quality wireless fm adaptor too.
  • jaymagicjaymagic Member Posts: 309
Yes, cleaner look, but check with any car stereo shop, the cassette gives much better quality sound.
