My wife and I have started our search for an '07 Civic Coupe w/ Manual and Navi. We're still debating between getting this or an '07 or '08 Scion. Navi's the big thing we really want.

So far, the only price we've been quoted is from Criswell Honda in Gaithesburg:

    $18,900 + tax + tags + $100 processing fee + $595 freight.

Let's see what other quotes I get are like. Hopefully there's still enough '07 Civic Coupes w/ Manual & Navi out there for me to have bargaining power.

    Same problem with the Accords. . . . and Camrys. . . . a used 2006 can't be had for cheaper than a new '07. . .

    And a used 05 is just only about $1500 cheaper than a new '07. . . . .

so conventional wisdom is to just buy a new one and enjoy all the new car benefits including warranty, smell, new car feel, knowing it wasn't driven like heck by the previous owner, and of course just 5 miles on the odometer when you drive off the lot.

Buy a ford or chevy and you can get a lot more off of a 2 year used.

    '07 Civiv LX Auto

    Price: $17,350
Tax (6%) and everything else: 1104
    Total:18,450
This is in AR. I also got the 7 yr Powertrian warranty for FREE, good at any Honda dealer. That's why I went to this dealer.

Do you think I got a good deal?
  • cp2007cp2007 Member Posts: 4
new: $17,700 + tax; Boch Honda, MA, but seriously took several hours of tough negotiating. They acted like they sold below what they bought it for. Second dealer Bernardi came at $18250. For those shopping now, if the price difference isn't too great, might as well get 2008, can get a thousand more back at resale; might also want to check out the new Accord!

Hi guys, I just want to ask if the '08 civic sedans are already out in the market here in the US. I tried searching the internet and it seems to me that the pictures of the '07 and '08 civic sedans are the same. I looked at kbb.com and edmunds.com and they only have the 2007 models.

If ever the '08 civic sedans aren't out yet, anybody have an idea when they'll be out in the market?

    Thanks!
  • jet10000jet10000 Member Posts: 656
There should be some on the dealer lots before the end of the month. Contact your local dealer and he should be able to give you an idea on when they will be getting some.

The pictures of the exteriors are generally the same. The main difference for 2008 was the addition of a trim that includes leather---the EX-L.

So I just made my first "official" car purchase yesterday. My first car I got used from Carmax, so it was a very hassle-free process. This was my first dealer purchase.

07 Civic Sedan LX, AT, 225 mi. $17,950 OTD. Not bad, huh? I feel like I negotiated a pretty good deal, but there's still that little paranoid part of me that wonders if I could've done better.

One quick question: I know GAP insurance is recommended for leased cars, but is it also a good idea for purchased vehicles? I signed up for it, but I can cancel it anytime. Any advice?
  • duddud Member Posts: 91
That is a good price on the LX, considering that you got it from Carmax (yuck).

As for GAP insurance ... did yuo pay cash or finance your car? If you financed consider this:

"Gap insurance will insure one for the difference between what one would owe on a vehicle and what an insurance company says it's worth. This insurance is a must for someone who is considering purchasing a new vehicle since a new vehicle depreciates right after it is driven off the dealer's lot."

Civics do not depreciate as fast as other vehicles but consider how much GAP adds to your insurance premium against how you would afford to replace your Civic, should it be lost.
  • supermom2005supermom2005 Member Posts: 3
Sorry, I meant I purchased my first car (a Mits Galant) from Carmax, but this Honda was my first dealer purchase.

I financed the car. It only adds a few dollars to my overall monthly payment. The fact that Honda's don't depreciate as much is the main reason for my question--I wasn't sure if it was necessary.

Ok. so here is the deal,
This is my first time posting here so please be gentle. I am looking for a steal of a deal on a 07' Ex w/nav (AT).
I've done my research and in my zip code the invoice price was 19,500. But when I went to the dealer he said the invoice was 20,000 (whatever). So I gave him a deal of 19,500. And after the usual haggling they said they could do it. But I'm a patient person and said I wanted to wait a few days. (which made them squirm of course)
I know that I can get it lower if they are willing to do it for that price on my first visit....but what they don't know is that I'm paying cash. And I know better than to tell them that before they put it in writing.
So to make a long story even longer, How possible is it to pay 18,500-19,000 (Ex/AT w/nav)? I will wait another month if I have to but I want it now.
    Any advice???
  • jet10000jet10000 Member Posts: 656
Well, I don't know if you should wait another month. The 2008's are rolling onto dealer's lots and they'll probably want to clear out the 07's fairly quickly.

You may be able to get a better deal, but you should negotiate quickly or if you have time get a couple of quotes from other dealers. Sometimes that helps to get the price down if the dealer knows he'll lose the sale by you going down the street.

    Good luck!

Make it easy on yourself, tell them you want a better price, tell them if they drop it to whatever you want to pay that you will buy it today. That's the best way since they will sell out as the 2008's will come off the trucks besides the car is 1 year old already and that means you can look up on Edmunds how much a 1 year old car loses.
Honda maintain their value so you'll be ok, but on some other makes you'd lose your shirt.
  • editor2editor2 Member Posts: 64
Making them "squirm" by saying you can wait to buy is not the way to get serious response. What they want is to do the deal and have you buy today. That's when the negotation will get serious, when they know you will actually go ahead rather than play games and waste time. In other words, you have no strategic advantage by telling them you're patient and can wait. Get real, do a sitdown with real numbers. About paying cash, you are not taking anyone by surprise especially. Separate the "how" of your purchase from the straight negotiation of the car's price. You want to set the price and only after that discuss how you will be paying. If the sales person asks how you plan to pay, you can tell him/her that you are set with your means and will get to do that later. This means, don't do the 4square box thing (a template they use in which all parts of the deal are written down at the same time). Stick with talking about the price of the car only. (No point letting them know you will not give them the opportunity to make more off you with financing). My opinion only.
Lots of people do cash, or at least partial cash, so do not imagine that this is some huge "aha!" revelation to a salesperson.
  • jd82jd82 Member Posts: 4
    dear dealerbware,
If you are looking for an 07 civic with navi the correct invoice is 20,155. that includes the destination charge. Paying cash for a vehicle should not influence the pricing of the vehicle. If that dealership is willing to give you a vehicle for 655 dollars under invoice i'd say that is a pretty good deal. The only thing you will be accomplishing from this point on is a lot of headaches. Go to the dealership in the last couple of days and take a shot at 19250.

bought mine aug 10 and now there is a recall on it. the wheels might fall off while driving its needs some kind of sealer or something. Saw it on cnn today. Great i thoght i was buying a car that had some quality. P.O. I even asked the chump dealer if any word of problems or a recall. next time im buying a toyota.
  • jet10000jet10000 Member Posts: 656
Unless you've been driving in areas where there has been road salt present this past month, the chance of your wheels falling off is zero.

Read the report submitted to the NHSTA here and get the full information. Doesn't sound like a complicated fix at all. It only applies to 5% of the vehicles, so check to see if your VIN number is actually affected before you get all excited.

If you are registered with Honda's Ownerlink, it will tell you if your specific car (based on VIN) falls under the recall - www.ahm-ownerlink.com

They are discussing this at length in the Honda Civic 2006+ Issues Forum

I bought this week an 07 Silver Civic LX with auto transmission with aftermarket leather seats.
Paid: $17549 including leather, tinting, etc.
    $1097 tax (6,25% in Texas)
    $217 Title, license, Doc. Fee
    Total OTD: $18,863
Considering leather usually costs about $1000, I think it was a fair deal. I live in the Dallas, TX area. I negotiated over the phone only and spent just one day on the purchase. I only spoke with the internet sales manager of each dealer and told them exactly what I wanted each time.
  • tvdoan06tvdoan06 Member Posts: 1
    Whats up,

i was just wondering how you were able to negotiate 17,000 OTD for a 07 Civic Coupe LX MT, cause I've been looking for the same make and model except in Tafetta White and the lowest i can even negotiate for it was 18,200 OTD. I was wondering what dealership did you get your car from and what tips you can possibly give me to negotiate my car for that price because that's my ideal price.

Well, it was the last day of august and the dealer was keen to close the deal.

The dealer is now running an "employee price" program and I think you could get close to what I got if not the same or better. The dealer in question is Ray Price Honda in East Stroudsburg PA.

Let us know how you get on.

    Cheers
  • gezzgezz Member Posts: 7
    Hi,

Sorry It took me a while to respond, I've been away for a while.

You may have seen another response I've posted, the dealer is in East Stroudsburg PA so it will be of little use to you if you are in CALI.

I think the market in the east side is very different to the conditions you guys have in the west coast so trying to get the pricing given to people here in the West is going to be very hard.

In terms of what I did, nothing, went there, found the car I was looking for and was ruthless with the pricing, I was ready to walk and they ask me to name my figure, I did and whilst they weren't happy I think they were looking at the bigger picture for them.

I didn't buy any accessories or crazy maintenance plans, I put no money down and financed the lot (17K) at 6% but I've since paid this off.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks
    Gezz

Secondly, shall I wait till the 3rd week of September?

I am looking to buy Honda Civic LX, 2008. Can anybody please suggest a good dealer near Atlantic city in NJ. I am moving from Memphis, TN to Absecon, NJ in about 6 weeks. I guess it will be a better deal for me if I buy it NJ.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!
  • mahedomahedo Member Posts: 3
    Please! Please! Please!

Tell us what dealer/salesperson sold you your '07 LX. Many DFW-area buyers are desperate to find a dealership recommendation.

Also, which other dealers did you contact? Any of those you'd recommend (or recommend to stay away from)?

    Thanks in advance.

I bought my o7 LX w/ leather and AT on Sept 14 from Red River Honda in Denison, Tx. It is about 50 miles north of Mckinney on Hwy 75 (exit 70).

The dealership is new, but you can find it at redriverauto.com.

I called them and asked to speak with the internet sales manager last Monday. While it turns out I actually dealt with a salesman, he called me back with a price of $17549 plus TTL with leather included (OTD $18,863). He did not have it in silver so he said he would find it and call me back. He called back a few hours later and said that he had found it in silver so I bought it.

I ended up getting tinting, mud guards, pinstripe, trunk tray, etc thrown in at no additional cost.

The deal was cash with no trade in and they knew this up front.

I also contacted Freeman Honda, Honda of Mckinney, Lute Riley Honda, and McDavid Honda. Mckinney seemed the most aggressive of these and quoted $17,994 plus TTL for 07 LX w/leather and AT and all the dealer add-ons.

I might have been able to get one of the others to match the deal, but since I was in a rental car and hurry to buy, I did not go back to the other dealers.

    Good Luck
  • mahedomahedo Member Posts: 3
    ChilliPepper,

    Thanks for the details.

I guess you got your LX w/leather for invoice ($16,944) or slightly lower, before adding in the after-market leather.

After multiple emails, my lowest price from McDavid was $150 over invoice, although they don't actually stock base LX sedan AT's, without junking them up with $$$ of dealer-installed options.

I'm interested in paying $16,750 for a base LX sedan AT, which would bring the out-the-door price to just over $18,000. That's a lot higher than those in other locations are paying, but seems reasonable in the North Texas area.

Would you like to mention your salesperson at Red River Honda?
  • chillipepper1chillipepper1 Member Posts: 6
You are correct that the price was about invoice or slightly lower. The other dealers wanted $16,944 plus ttl and $1000 for leather. Red River qouted the price with leather and did not offer the price without leather. I suspect they gave me the car at invoice plus $600 for leather. The tinting and dealer add ons were all thrown in.

I mentioned that they found the car for me. It turned out that the car actually came from McDavid of Frisco in a swap without the leather or tinting. So I would not worry about all the dealer add ons increasing the price but just tell tham you are not interested in paying for them and they can throw them in.

I think it is possible to get the car at 16,650 plus TTL. I would act qiuckly though as the invetories of o7 LX w/ AT is getting low. I would try Red River, Lute Riley and McKinney.

The salesman at Red River was Brandon.

PS: Red River had last Friday an 07 LX w/AT in Galaxy Gray with 1600 miles on it that they are vary anxious to unload. If gray is OK you might make a great deal.

    Good Luck

 I Bot an 07 Accord in May 07 from Lute Riely in Plano. While the salesman was OK the Business Manager was unprofessional and even added 2 items to the finance agreement, which I had not approved, trying to sneak them by me. I made a big stink about this to the salesmanager but somehow walked away feeling that this is an accepted way of doing business there. I won't give them my business again!

Looks fair....maybe a little high. I just paid invoice for an 08 EX-L (Leather) Sedan. Price was $19,055 plus about $630 for shipping and $99 dealer processing plus taxes, tags, title. Make sure you use the internet pricing person for better pricing and a smoother sale. Buying services can be good too, I used a service through my credit union. I live in Maryland. Dealer was Norris Honda. It took a couple of days for them to get the color I wanted from another dealer in PA.
  • riddlermythriddlermyth Member Posts: 40
I'm sorry, but being rather new, what do you mean by:

"Make sure you use the internet pricing person for better pricing and a smoother sale"

    Thanks!

It seems the best deal I can get is 16300, plus destination fee(600) and title, tax.

Anybody has better deal or dealship to recommend?

    Thanks.
  • duddud Member Posts: 91
I think what cwhyte meant was to use the Internet Sales Manager at the dealership and NOT a regular salesman.

The easiest way to do this is to request a quote via a dealer's website.
  • duddud Member Posts: 91
An LX what? Manual or Automatic?

$16,300 for a manual is much too high.

$16,300 for an auto is reasonable.
  • cwhytecwhyte Member Posts: 14
Yes, I find it easier to deal with price negatiations via e-mail. I also think the internet sales person may have more flexibility/authority to start at the bottom line price. In my case, I actually went to the honda web site to build and price my model. At the end of that process it lets you enter your zip code and send an e-mail to local dealerships. I selected 5 dealerships (one at a time) and then got e-mail replies. In the comments section, I asked for UBS pricing if possible (United Buying Service), which is a service available to credit union members in the Baltimore/DC area. There are plenty of other buying services that may be helpful as well. Anyway, I got two dealerships that quoted about $500 over invoice, another dealership that quoted close to MSRP, and Norris Honda that quoted me invoice price, so I went with them. The purchase went pretty smoothly.

    Hi Van-info,

I bought my Silver 2007 Civic EX Sedan Automatic for $17,888 (destination charge included) before 8.25% sales tax (Norhern California)+ $300 fees on 9/13/2007. So, I hope that can be a basis for your negotiation. My only concern is whether there are any 2007 EX left in your area. Goodluck on your search!

purchased a 2006 Honda civic Lx from a Honda dealership last week 10,000 miles with remainder 26,000 mile warranty. Can I buy this 8 year/100k/0 deductible Honda Care warranty, and from who do I purchase it.
  • jet10000jet10000 Member Posts: 656
I don't think you can get the 8 year warranty on used vehicles. I think the best you can get is 5 year 84,000 mile warranty.

    See:

    for details.

Hey everyone, I was hoping more people on these Civic forums would be looking into Civics w/ Nav. Most prices on here seem to be without Nav. Here are some numbers I have gotten from emailing dealers around the DC Metro area within the past couple days.

    Dealer #1:
    Civic EX-NAVI Coupe AUTOMATIC
INTERNET PRICE: $19,560 (PLUS TAX, TAGS, FREIGHT $635, PROCESS FEE $100, and dealer installed options, if any)

Dealer #2 (this quote was late August, so maybe it's changed now)
2007 Honda Civic EX Coupe with Navigation & Manual Transmission: 18,990.00, plus tax, tags, 595.00 freight and 100.00 processing fee.

Dealer #3 (this car is acually gone now, but on Sunday, Sept 9 when I inquired about it, this is what the price was):
    '07 Civic Auto w/ Nav for $19,460 + $635 destination + $49.00 deal processing fee + tax & tags.

I'll post more prices as I find them, and will post the final price I pay for what I get.

On Slickdeals, there's a formula to follow on what your target price should be (here's the link to the thread that discusses that: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=566262 )

Following that formula for a EX 2dr Coupe w/Navigation System (1.8L 4cyl 5A) (using info from edmunds.com), here is what it seems I should pay for the Civic I want:

    MSRP: $21,260
    Invoice: $19,560 http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1.../trans_1x1.gif
    Rebate: $0
    Holdback: $637.80 (3% of MSRP)
    Tru Inv: $19560-637.80 = 18922.20
    Tax in MD : (.05 * True Invoice) = 946.11
    Tag: 200 (est.) = $195
    Low ball: $18922 + $946.11 + $195 - $2000 = 18063.11
    Target: [ ( 21,260 - 0 - 18,922.20 = 3196.89 ) / 2 ] = 1598.45 + 18063.11 = $19661.55 (out the door price, all fees included)
    - Or, $18,520.45 before tax & tags

    - - - - -

Do you guys think I can negotiate in that iPod connector accessory that you can get on some (all?) '07 Hondas? What about a new Navi disc for my '04 Accord? I believe Civics use a different Navi disc so I can't just use the new '07 Civic's navi disc with my '04 Accord's navi.

The iPod connector has been discontinued because they couldn't get the software to work well. It required software to be installed on your computer and you had somehow use that software when you downloaded it to the ipod.

I suppose if the Navi disc is something they sell in the dealerships parts department that you could get them to throw that in if they wanted to close the sale.

Really? I thought the music link was a new thing. This page still seems active:
    http://musiclink.honda.com/Comp_Veh.html

Perhaps they just haven't taken it down.

Yeah, maybe I'll ask for the Navi disc if I can. Right now, according to https://store.alpine-usa.com/Hondadvdsales/, they have the 2006 update version 3.60. I don't want to actually buy it yet because I think this fall is when they'll do the 2007 update. If I get it a year older one for free, that'd be good.

The music link has been out for a couple of years. They took it off the available accessories page on the Build Your Honda web-site about 3-4 months ago.

When I did some Yahoo searches, I found out that it had been discontinued and that it was problem prone. Your dealer can confirm to you that it is no longer an available accessory.

well that sucks.. the new civic does have at least an aux in jack right? I would hate to resort to a tape adapter or fm modulater in this day of age on a new car purchase.
  • editor2editor2 Member Posts: 64
The 2007 Civic (mine is EX) has the Aux in, which is all you need to use the Ipod. Well, almost: you need to buy a $15 cord connector. But it works fine.
  • jet10000jet10000 Member Posts: 656
It has the aux jack right next to the power outlet on the front dash.

If you're getting a Nav version, it also has a Digital Audio Card Reader so you can copy your mp3's onto a card and control it through the steering wheel controls and see the text information on the display. That is a really great feature that they don't even offer on the new Accords.
