Does anyone know what this means regarding the AUX jack part? I hope it means I can plug my Sirius radio feed into this jack instead of using the little FM modulator thing that I now use, which gives me lots of static. Thanks.

I see they did drop the XM radio ready stuff. I like Sirius better anyway. I would not have paid extra for XM.

Yes, that's exactly what that means. All you need is a $5 cable you can buy at Wal-Mart. You plug one end into the jack on your Sirius unit and the other end into the jack underneath the power outlet on the dash.

I'm looking to make the same purchase a 2007 Honda Civic LX automatic 4dr. It does not have to have anything extra on it. I live in AZ and have not been successful in negotiating a decent price in AZ. I'm willing to go to So Cal or even Las Vegas if I can confirm a price. Have you made your purchase yet??
  • jet10000jet10000 Member Posts: 656
Honda has updated its web-site with the 2008 Civic Coupe. It includes 2008 pricing as well as the price for the new leather trim.

Has anyone recently purchased an 07 LX automatic 4dr in AZ or So Cal?? If so what did you pay and was there anything that might have driven the price lower like a trade in or down payment or financing with the dealer?? I would like to make a purchase on Fri or Sat. I do not have a trade in, have my own financing and have had absolutely no luck in getting a decent price in AZ. I'm willing to go to So Cal if I can be sure the price won't change when I get there. Any help???

This is also how you plug in an Ipod or other mp3 player, so then it plays through the car's speaker system. (also with a cable)
  • duddud Member Posts: 91
    Kyote,

please confirm the '07 vs. '08 prices here. You were going to pay about $18,500 for an '07 but ended up paying $19,500 for an '08 ... correct? If true this just confirms what I thought ... that the dealers are not going to be commin much off MSRP for the '08s vice going invoice or below on '07s.

    Congrats on the purchase ...
  • kyotekyote Member Posts: 28
Hi Dud, I am not sure about the $18500. for 07, maybe that was an illusion. The old "bait and switch" trick. So I think the best I could find for a 07 was about $18800. The 08 is for $19500. All these prices include vehicle destination and any dealer fees. These prices do not include my TTL. Oh, the 08 price does include tint and cargo net.

Correct, the 08 cost more. I heard on the news that new car sales are down, so I am not sure how much or how long these price increases will last.

    kyote,

I have been trying to locate a short stereo jack cable(male/male) that plugs into my ipod as well the aux jack but haven't found one.
The shortest one was like 6ft (1ft would be ideal)I have also heard that cable works better than the FM modulators (interference issues) Also the FM modulators are PRICEY! I would rather stick to $5-$10 cable that gives better sound unless it totally ruins the coolness factor. I found a few retractable cables online - those would be nice!!

Which cable from walmart are you referring to?
  • editor2editor2 Member Posts: 64
Found mine in Best Buy. Check also at the Apple Store and online.

    maria18,

No, I haven't made the purchase yet. So far $17,879.49 OTD at Pacific Honda in San Diego (Posted by Prsu)is the best price I've seen in So Cal or Las Vegas area. Good luck and please let me know if you find any good deals.

    Thank you
  • kyotekyote Member Posts: 28
Editor and Jet. Thanks much for the info on the cable. I will pick one up!! On our 02 Civic, the modulator brought in way too much static. Then I found a cheap kit that went direct wire from Sirius to radio antenna lead, result was 100% improvement in sound and no static!! Now Iam looking for a good Sirius mounting kit that will work in the new Civic. Seems several are available. Some fit in the cup holder, some seem to mount to AC vents. Anyone tried these? Results? Thanks.

    Hi,

For those of you interested, I've just picked up my new Civic and the purchase details are as follows:

07 Civic Coupe LX MT Royal Blue MSRP $17,355 + Taxes + License + etc...

After lots of negotiation: OTD $17,000

And yes, the OTD above includes license, registrations and taxes.

I think it was a pretty good deal judging by the posts here. :D

    Cheers

Made the purchase one week ago.

    Car: $16450
    DMV fees: $234.75
    Tax: $1361.66 (8.25%)
    OTD: $18046.41

    Hi carless in sva,

I also want to purchase an 07 civic LX sedan AT. Did you have a trade in or did you finance with the dealer??
The dealers will not send me a break down of an OTD price in email. I went to two dealers today. The first dealer gave me an OTD price of $19,776 and was not willing to negotiate at all. The second dealer quoted me $19,699. I told him I was looking in the 18k range and he said I was crazy and where would I get a price like that and what was I trying to do?? He let me walk too. When I spoke to other dealers on the phone, I had the same response. I'm willing to go the bay area if I could get your price. Would you give me the name of your dealer, who sold you your car and how did you negotiate that price. Did they add on any unnecessary accessories?? Thanks!

    Hi Anks1,

Also looking for an 07 civic LX 4dr sedan AT. Have you made a purchase yet or received any good OTD quotes in your area??
  • carless_in_svacarless_in_sva Member Posts: 8
    Hi maria,

I used Larry Hopkins Honda in Sunnyvale. I also got a slightly more expensive quote (about $50) from Honda of Stevens Creek. The quote from Autowest in Fremont was about $16600.

I got all these quotes through Internet. I also got similar quotes from dealers in LA (the best one is from a dealer in North Hollywood at $16500+$500 online shopping gift certificate).

I didn't have a trade-in, and I payed cash. There wasn't any unnecessary accessories in the car.

    Good luck!

In Twin CIties on 8/18/07. Purchased Si Copue in Fiji Blue for $21,100 with all-season mats and moonroof visor. OTD $22,800 incl TTL etc. Worked with internet salesman at Richfield-Bloomington Honda. Very good experience other than long time at dealer to close. Only got 6% rate from AHFC, though, since no incentives on Si. Fun car!

ummm....just trying to help people out here. i read forums and got ideas around what price to shoot for and I got it. i do not mind giving details...i am just good at this stuff. jessshh. it was a a silver alabaster color...i could have had the civic for 17,500 at 2 dealerships.

    good luck
  • maria18maria18 Member Posts: 10
    Hi Carles in SVA,

Thanks for the info. Cali definitely has better pricing. The quote you received from a dealer in North Hollywood at $16500+$500 online shopping gift certificate, I guess I don't understand the gift certificate. The quote for $16500 was the car's invoice price... right?? The $500 gift certificate was not tacked on to the invoice price of the
car..right??? Also by the looks of your purchase there was no destination fee. How did you get them to drop that? The dealers in my area were also charging a $130 advertising fee. Thanks
  • editor2editor2 Member Posts: 64
What do you mean by "could have had the civic for $17,500"?
  • terrypm1terrypm1 Member Posts: 79
Today is the day for everyone to get you some. Can not wait til tonight when all the hot deals are posted. Labor day weekend is here, the deals are ripe for the picking.
  • duddud Member Posts: 91
I hope you are right. The general rule-of-thumb is to buy right BEFORE the end of the month NOT at the beginning. If I were a dealer (trying to meet my sales quota) I would be less inclined to deal at the beginning of a sales period than at the end (as in yesterday). I hope all those "great deals" have not already been picked.

I have been seeing some great deals here in the last 2-3 days. I wonder if this will continue now that it is early September and the '08s are coming out.

Made the purchase on 9/1/07(16miles on odo)

    Car $16,800
    DMV fees $168
    Tax 1266.62 $7.5%
    Doc fee $57.33
    OTD 18,291.95

    Love my Honda

Just got an '07 Civic coupe galaxy gray LX AT from Metro Honda in Jersey city for $1000 below invoice yesterday. They had a 2007 year end clearance going for all civic and accords.
However, there was doc fee of $189 and window etching of $169 which I tried to bargain with. However the manager said that I won't be able to find a civic going for this price. The lowest I got from others before this was $400 below invoice.
NJ charges 7% tax and a 4 year registration fee of about $250-$270. OTD is $17500.

Try DCH Paramus Honda. Actually if you send me an email, I can give you the # and the name of the sales rep who is really pleasure to work with. I'm sure he can give equal or better price.
  • carless_in_svacarless_in_sva Member Posts: 8
    Maria,

The price I posted includes destination fee, and they don't charge advertising fee here. You need to pay tax (8.25%) and DMV fees (around $250 here), though. Go get some internet quotes and you'll have a rough idea about the price!
  • smccafferysmccaffery Member Posts: 6
So far the best offer I have gotten is for an 2007 is $18,300, including destination fee, if I buy it today or $18,600 after 9/4/07 or and $19500 for a 2008 incl dest fee and nothing added to the car, plus Title and license fee of $254, plus tax 6.25%. This does not include extras like mud guards, wheel locks and pin striping and my final price will depend on whether or not the car I choose has these add-ons, which they won't give me prices for. Any thoughts on these prices???

Purchased a Rallye Red Si Sedan with Navigation & Summer Tires for $22,148 + TTL.

Dealer Add-ons included: Single Black Pinstripe and Locking Lugs

    MSRP: $23,835
    Dealer Add Ons: $150 est
    Total: $23,985

    Discount: ($1,837)
    Negogiated Price: $22,148

Funny note. I did the deal over the phone. The dealership had three Si Sedans in stock when I spoke with them (two Navs, 1 non-Nav). I placed my deposit on the Red one and within the next hour the other two sold too! Crazy! I took me forever just to find a dealer within 150 miles with a Nav Si Sedan anyway and I *almost* lost it too.

Could someone please explain why nadaguides.com says a 2006 Civic Coupe EX MT w/o nav and 30,000 miles goes for $17,625 when a brand new 2007 can be purchased at invoice for $17,815? I'd like to save money by purchasing a 2006 but $200 isn't enough of a discount.

I will pick up my new EX Friday. A trip from TX to CO is in the near future!! Hey current Civic owners, how many miles till the first oil change? And is it the old rule of limited revs for the first so many miles??

    Thanks for any info.
  • jet10000jet10000 Member Posts: 656
I'd run that 2006 using the Edmunds appraiser:

    http://www.edmunds.com/tmv/used/index.html

    I wouldn't pay $17,625 for a 2006 for the reason you stated.

You should probably do some searches and find a real 2006 EX MT up for sale and compare them with a new car cost. Keep in mind your window for getting a new 2007 is closing fast.
  • jet10000jet10000 Member Posts: 656
Actually I think Honda's first scheduled oil change is at 10,000 miles but I follow the "severe" maintenance plan for oil changes which means I do mine every 5,000. I just can't get used to waiting a full 10,000 miles to do an oil change no matter what the owner's manual says.

When I bought my civic I know they said not to do the first oil change too soon (like before 3,000 or something) because there's special additives in the new oil and those need to stay in the engine for awhile.

And I remember when I picked up my car the dealer told me to keep the revs under a certain level for the first so many miles. Can't remember the specifics, but I'm sure they'll fill you in when you pick up the car.

Have a good trip to CO!

Your new Civic has an oil minder which adapts to the drivers driving style and will let you know by %'s when it's time to change the oil. I was told that when it gets to the 15% mark, it's time for a change. But ask the service manager when you get the new car. As for varying the speeds during the break in period, I was told to do this and I did. Worked great for me.
It's a great car and I love my LX. It's my first Honda and I'm hooked at this point. Happy shopping!

Although I thought I did a lot of car research, I wasn't prepared for the pressure and time involved in buying a car (my first... I lived in Manhattan for years where only the wealthy own cars).

I got a Civic EX sedan (not hybrid) for $18,750 incl. destination charge tonight. With 7% NJ sales tax, state fees, and minor dealer fees, the final price was $20,720. I came in for an LX and ended up upgrading to an EX because they didn't have any LXs in stock in nice colors. (Their offer was limited to in-stock only.) So it was either take the EX or switch to a Prius and pay $5000 more, and at the end my boyfriend offered to help with the higher cost so I caved.

I'm tired, glad it's done, and confident that we have a solid car with good MPG (and it's red with a "moonroof" for fun). But I'm a little unhappy that I let myself be rushed into an overquick decision and maybe paid too much. Sorta wish I had held out for the Prius.

So - was I had? I did hope for a better price during the clearance season. FWIW, the dealership was Metro Honda in Jersey City (a huge outfit). We liked our sales rep fine.

My advice: Don't go car-shopping at night unless you've done a lot of the preliminary steps already. Everyone, including you, is tired and anxious to get home. Not the ideal conditions for a major purchase.
  • editor2editor2 Member Posts: 64
Well, you have the car you want, and it's a great car in a color you enjoy. So, yay. Not much point in kicking oneself after the fact--you learned something about the shopping experience in the process.

To answer you more directly, you paid several hundred dollars more than you might have. Now what...have an ice cream cone and forget it and enjoy that Civic. :)
  • duddud Member Posts: 91
My wife's LX (5 weeks old) has only 800 miles on it and the computer tells us that the oil still has 90% life left. I wonder what it will say at 3,000 miles. I plan on getting the oil changed at no more than 3,500 to 4,000 no matter what the car computer tells me.
  • duddud Member Posts: 91
    Spunsilver,

    You asked:

    "So - was I had?"

The last line of your post says it all:

"Don't go car-shopping at night unless you've done a lot of the preliminary steps already. Everyone, including you, is tired and anxious to get home. Not the ideal conditions for a major purchase."

You seem to have answered your own question. I estimate that you paid approximately $1,500 more than you had to IF you had followed your advice above. I estimate that you paid as much as $1,000 over invoice.

Don't kick yourself though ... look at it this way: you just bought an '07 at an '08 price. The car is still new and the differences (in price) will fade as you own the car. If you plan to own it for 5 to 8 years then it all comes out in the wash.

Just purchased this vehicle in galaxy gray for 16,389 OTD.
No sales tax in NH ..... live free or die !
  • kyotekyote Member Posts: 28
    Thanks for the replies!!

I think maybe I am too old and too set in my ways to let a car go for 10000 miles on same oil and filter. But maybe I should think about it. Saves a little money and over the life of a car, saves lots of environment. My 02 says change at 10000, but I just could never do that. I thought with change in new engine, 02 vs 08, they might have changed the frequency of recommended change but guess not.

Hmmm. Special additivies? Will have to ask about that when I pick it up.
  • kyotekyote Member Posts: 28
Did you get auto or manual? Sounds like a good deal for a first time buyer. Live and learn and bet next time you can get an even better deal!!You know, it all comes out in the wash and in your life you will save some bucks on another deal. For now enjoy that red car with the moonroof but watch out for cops!! :shades:

I have known of situations where people pay more than list for a special car or special motorcycle, to me that is pretty silly.
  • spunsilverspunsilver Member Posts: 3
Oh yeah - forgot to say it's automatic - guess that makes a difference.

More advice: if you go with a partner, make sure you have decided in advance who will negotiate and how. I was ready to walk away w/o a drop-dead offer - told our dealer I really liked the Prius better and the Honda was boring. We were just glaring at each other in silence. But my b.f. couldn't take it and jumped in to make peace. Or I should say, buy peace.

It's all good. Thanks for the input, everyone!
  • sandman46sandman46 Member Posts: 1,798
Really wanted the EX but the wife really didn't want the moonroof so settled on the LX. Had an aftermarket roof years ago and it stunk, so she hates any hole in the roof of a car. In hind sight, would've gone with the EX for the extra goodies. But added other Honda wheels on the car, so it improves the looks greatly and not many around that look like mine.
Give it some time & you'll love the car. Also thought about hybrids, the Civic or the Prius, but with the amount I drive just wasn't a good financial move. Happy to be in the Honda family...finally!

    The Sandman :)
  • kyotekyote Member Posts: 28
Well then, there you go. For auto EX with destination, I get invoice of $18550. You paid a little over that. Not bad for a first time buyer!!! Not sure of the TMV for that car your area, but you can go to edmunds.com and figure it. For SA TX TMV for that car is $19280. I think you got a good deal!!!
  • gussguss Member Posts: 1,167
I have been looking at the exact car except in Atomic Blue(I love that name), and the best price I have found after going to three dealers is $18,655 including shipping. I just need them to give me a better number for my trade.

So, if you are worrying about leaving something on the table, I would say you did great. Enjoy the car and the moonroof. I will never own a car again without one.
  • spunsilverspunsilver Member Posts: 3
Yeah, that's the invoice amount I get for my zip with a TMV of $19024 (we're about $250 under TMV). So yay!

But I'm confused. I thought TMV was the goal, not invoice. How do people ever get down to invoice?

And when the contract has extra charges (VIN etching, doc fees, etc) in bold face - indicating that they are standard charges for all customers - how likely is it that they will back down on them?

Guss, glad to know the moonroof is such a great feature! I guess it's the poor woman's convertible!
  • goffosgoffos Member Posts: 2
One possible reason: If it is a "Certified Used Honda," then you will get a longer warranty. For Certified Used Hondas, bumper-to-bumper warranty increases from 3 yr./36,000 mi. to 4 yr./48,000 mi. and powertrain warranty increases from 5 yr./60,000 mi. to 7 yr./100,000 mi. I'd check this out on the Honda website and verify with the dealer before you buy, of course. And make sure you weigh the extended warranty against the new car smell you will not get...
  • duddud Member Posts: 91
You are the first person (that Iknow of) to offer advice of what "not to do" versus "what TO do".

If you read back through the last number of pages in this forum you will read a TON of advice about when and how to buy. The first rule is the simplest:

DO NOT go to the dealer to negotiate. Askfor price quotes and go fromthere. I bought an LX for $700 under invoice without negotiating.
