what is the current rebate on the civic..
    is it $500 or a $1000?
  • jikjik Member Posts: 144
    Auto or Manual?
  • jikjik Member Posts: 144
18.5 K is the invoice for this ex auto sedan. So you should aim atleast 1000 below invoice. there is a 1000 rebate on this car.

costo deal always puts you near invoice since its 2 K off MSRP
  • djsf1djsf1 Member Posts: 9
The rebate is $1000 on the EX...which is what I want to purchase
  • djsf1djsf1 Member Posts: 9
So you're saying that I should aim for 17.5k...does that include the 1000 rebate to the auto dealer...or should the 1000 go to me?
  • djsf1djsf1 Member Posts: 9
    Automatic....
  • christine118christine118 Member Posts: 22
I think the $1000 rebate lasts until November. Or at least that's what I was told the other day because I wasn't sure if it expired July 31.
  • jikjik Member Posts: 144
you should aim for 2-3 hundred below 17.5 K Dont worry about the dealr incentive its from honda to dealer. Its included in the number above.

Thanks for your help....I'm having a hard time though! A lot of people are out there with the CRC program....I got one quote that takes CRC at 18,270 and I told them they were at least $400 off....It's the best I can get so far....they will get back to me....do you think I should try for more?
  • jikjik Member Posts: 144
yep I know what you mean C4C has completely deluged the market.

I am in same boat as you -- I have not been able to pull the trigger so to speak since I am getting about 700-1000 more than most folks who posted here. I am looking for LX or LX-S auto
  • mjpilotmjpilot Member Posts: 3
Does your OTD price include everything EXCEPT tag, title, and tax?

I live in Clearwater and am shopping around ...
  • djladjla Member Posts: 1
Unfortunately, I started shopping around a few days ago and the best offer seems to be $16,500 (plus tax and plates). My deadline is the end of the month. Is it worth waiting for the release of the 2010 and the end of COC or is this the best I'm going to do over the next three weeks?
  • gigg1esgigg1es Member Posts: 3
The offer I got for this was $20,500 out the door. Using the cash for clunkers brings it down to $16,000. Does this sound like a good deal? There were no added options, just what the LX S came with.
  • oneandthesameoneandthesame Member Posts: 2
Hey paperbag, Could you please tell me your Salespersons name. I received an internet quote from the Internet Manager for a 2009 Honda Civic Ex Sedan for $19,575. I than sent him an email asking if there was a $1000 incentive on top of that, he said no. $19,575 total OTD. Thank You in advance.

I too had a bad experience with this dealership 18 years ago I purchased my first new Honda Civic LX there at the time. A few months or so later, I had brought it in for a damaged rim and tire (due to a pot hole) and was told that I had to purchase the rim at their Parts Dept.and bring it to the mechanic, which I did. They did the job (or so I thought) and then a few days later I got a flat on that same wheel. I brought it to my local gas station and the attendant there said he could not repair the tire because it had been reparied too many times and showed me the patches. I was stunned. These were new tires and this was my first flat. My husband then discovered that the rim too was used and not new. Foolishly, neither of us even thought to inspect the job for such things and there is no way to prove this. From that day on I stopped bringing the car there for maintenance or repairs.
Since the place is close by, I went there recently to test drive (not buy) a new Honda Civic after being told I could go without an appointment. When I got there a salesman told me he was too busy to give me a test drive and to come back tomorrow. They were busy with "cash for clunkers." Then I told him I got a quote online from them for the Civic for $15,324, which I did, wanting to see what Plaza Honda was asking for the car I wanted. He said he could work with that, tax not included. As we passed a few I asked which were the LXs and I was made to understand that they were not going to be sold for the price I was quoted. He assumed it was the DX that I was quoted, but the quote was for an LX not a DX. I did not have the print out with me and was too drained to even argue. I was not treated the way I expected to be treated. And yes, as one other person wrote on here, the quote came from the "Internet Sales Specialist." But yes, she does exist, because I met her earelier this week. It's the add on fees that one has to be leery about. The quote is not the final price.
I think I would rather go elsewhere and pay more than give my business to this dealership.
  • linnie52linnie52 Member Posts: 2
Yes, this Car Clunker program has given consumers less room for negotiation. Before all of this, car dealers were calling me, and believe it or not, I know someone who got a Honda Civic LX 2009 for $13,500. I know of someone else who got the SUV for $17,100. Now I'm lucky if I can get the Honda Civic LX for $17,000 and that's without the sales tax. Sigh!!! I do need a new car even though my 1991 Honda Civic is still up and running, so I guess I'll have to buy at a higher price. I am n the NY area.

Recently i have been looking around for a honda civic.
    The quote I recieve are

    16,200
    +710 dest
    +7.5 tire tax
    +249 doc
    +289 reg m/v
    =17,455.5 otd

    and
    15818.89
    +710 des
    +299 doc
    +7.70 tire
    +274 mv
    =17,108.99 otd
according to one guy, the other dealership was "low balling".
Do you think I can get a lower price then those two mentioned above?

I am from Houston and I am helping a friend to buy a 2009 Honda Civic EX Coupe. The best offer I got:
Vehicle Price:$18293.59 before TTL; $19675.15 drive-out.MSRP 20675. On Aug 5,2009 I myself drove-out a 2009 Honda Civic LX sedan with autotrans for 13300 after deducting 4500 from my clunker.MSRP for this car is 19100. The initial quote I got was 17500 drive out but I was charged extra 300 for the dealer installed option(hand painted pin stripe and tint). I believe your price is reasonable considering the CARS frenzy. Also, I was about to buy a Corolla 2010 LE for a drive out price of 16500 but when I said I have a clunker they changed the price to 17792 driveout so I did not get the offer and instead got the Honda LX.
  • mjpilotmjpilot Member Posts: 3
coolman, please verify the OTD price includes everything but TTT? I guess in FL, all dealers charge a ridiculous fee of $599 ...
  • philliplcphilliplc Member Posts: 136
"and believe it or not, I know someone who got a Honda Civic LX 2009 for $13,500"

    that would be "not"

Hi all. Since I consulted these forums when negotiating my deal (purchased 8/1/09), I thought I'd give back a tad and let you all know what I managed in the DC-metro area. Primarily through playing quotes off of each other, I negotiated my black EX Coupe (MSRP $21068, with splash guards, door edge guards, and wheel locks) to $17500 OTD (not including taxes and tags). I'll check back here if anyone has any questions.

I am in Dallas, just bought a 2009 Civic LX sedan auto this week with C4C.
MSRP + Destination+add-ons(pin stripe, window tint, spoiler, mud guard, trunk tray, paint sealant, fabric protection/scotch guard) sub total was 17350, less 4500 C4C, add TTL and other fees, the total balance was 13880.
This is the best deal I could find in Dallas. I have read posted prices for LXs here, but I couldn't get anywhere close to some of the prices being posted. Most dealers gave me a quote and weren't willing to negotiate at all. I have visited 3 dealerships in person, and I can see why they don't negotiate on Civc LXs--most of them have only about 5-10 LXs left in stock. One dealer sold out LX sedans, had to get 2 from another dealer. With the C4C deal, they had no issue selling them.

    Redrover,

Thanks for all you advice. You have inspired me to look for a similar deal. As many have mentioned the C4C program is reducing our leverage to bargain. I was quoted 18,000 for an LX 4 dr at Pohanka of Fredericksburg today, but will start using the internet quote method. I was wondering if you could tell me who you worked with at Jim Coleman?

    Thanks,

    Jon

Best price I got from the Internet is from Steve Hopkins Fairfield, CA.

    Dealer Name: JC Cummings

    $16100 incs. dest :)

Other Deallers in my area were $16300-16450.

Going there tomorrow. Will let all you know the complete breakdown. +I will do the C4C as well. :D

P.S. Look for dealers with alot of inventory. It helps in the haggling.

    jjmags37,

Good luck in your search. I too was inspired by someone who had recently bought a car and gave detailed information. Isn't the web great? What my daughter did was to go through Edmunds and emailed for quotes. You can go through other sites too. When you get quotes you can negotiate those. I have a feeling that some dealerships give these leads to some of their sales people because the man who helped us was young and only lived in the area for 7 months. I would not be surprised if this was his first car sales job. I don't think we are supposed to give names on this site . While we were there even though through email he agreed to a certain price it of course had to be approved so we offered an even smaller amount and was surprised when he came back and said ok. I think with the C4C program dealers are selling so many cars that the prices have risen a lot and consumers are not saving as much as they think. Of course before this program dealers were selling extremely low I believe Honda still has the manufacturer to dealer rebate of $1000 that they are no longer giving the consumer because of C4C being so succesful they don't need the incentive to get people to come in to buy cars.

    Good luck

    Hi
can you tell me if the quote was for the clunker trade-in program? So far, my lowest quote is 17.1k +TTL for Civic LX with trade-in. The difference between with/without clunker trade in is ~ $1,000. Thanks
  • djbenbbaddjbenbbad Member Posts: 5
    Yes this was a C4C.

    Here is my breakdown.

LX Auto Polished Metal Metallic -$16100
    Document Preparation Fee -$55
    Sales Tax -$1494.34
Optinal DMV Electronic filling - $29
    License Fees - $185
    Regs/Tlt/Transfer fee - $87.00
    Ca Tire Fee - $8.75

    Sub total $17959.09 (OTD if I didn't have a C4C)

    C4C for old 1996 V8 Mustang $4500

    OTD $13459.09 :)

Going back there to buy a LX-S for my brother in-law $16800 and with a C4C.
  • vettedreamervettedreamer Member Posts: 10
shouldn't the Tax be after you deduct the $4500?
  • christine118christine118 Member Posts: 22
In some states like NY, sales tax is applied to the price before the $4500 credit. In that case though, you can claim the sales tax on your 2009 taxes.

    Sup guys.

This is coolman4 instead of 3.

The price 17,600 is OTD meaning that is what I paid. THis price includes everything including the tax tag and title. The car came with pinstripes mudguards dooredges trunktray, and wheel locks. Tell them 17,600 OTD. Not a penny more.

For all of youl in the florida area, would suggest you go to palm harbor honda.
    The guys name is gary.
Tell him that you will pay 17,600 OTD which includes the tax tag and title, dealer fees and everything. Hence this is called the out the door price. This car came with the options that I listed in my previous post.
Warranty is extra however, if you choose to buy one.

I received over 35 dealer quotes from all over florida before I made my decision.

I did the homework for you. If you decide to buy one, go to Gary at Palm Harbor Honda.
    Good luck

I'm looking for a Civic Coupe EX auto and am willing to drive my clunker up to 500 miles to get the best price. The best quote I've gotten around here was 18,600 (includes everything except tax, title and lemon law); most have been 19k+. When I tell them I want to pay 17.5k (or even 18K), they just show me the door.

    Any recommendations? Thanks.

    hello,

i just came from dealership, paid $13,200 OTD after the CARS program..
bought from Holler honda in Orlando, FL
  • nawippernawipper Member Posts: 2
Bought a Civic LX Sedan Auto 2 weeks ago using a clunker trade in. Got 4 internet quotes and the best was 16,700. I paid 13,300 OTD. In Minnesota the tax was after the $4500 subtraction, so it was ony $790 I believe. I got quotes before mentioning the clunker trade-in.
  • bulbadayabulbadaya Member Posts: 1
This is the first quote the dealer suggested me yesterday, it is less than I expected.

He said, $ 17888 OTD price (include everything),

Should I buy the car in this price or keep deal with him to get lower price?

Do you guys know when would 2010 Civic come?
  • jrb363jrb363 Member Posts: 2
On Saturday I bought a 2009 Civic Coupe EX with sunroof shield, splashguards, pinstripe, etc. We used the cash for clunkers & paid $18,399.98 after all taxes, fees, etc. That was for everything including the add-ons. Taxes are around 9.5% here in Nashville, TN. I'm not sure what they are in your area. I went to Crest Honda and talked to Raul. He's a genuine guy and worked very hard to make us happy. He's honest and not pushy at all. If you want his contact info sent me an e-mail at: jrb363@gmail.com I'd be more than happy to send you more info. Good luck with your search!

BTW: I went by their lot today just to look and they got 3 new EX's in this morning. Not sure how many are pre-sold though.
  • jrb363jrb363 Member Posts: 2
Also, the base price (pre taxes) was ~$16,000 including cash for clunkers. The invoice for the car we bought was $20,550 and the Crest Honda dealer here is offering 2.9% APR or $1,000 off the bottom line. We negotiated down to $17k and he then he knocked another $1,000 off pre-taxes. Made us very happy. :-)

    Hi nawipper,

I'm currently looking in the Twin Cities area for the same car (probably same 4 dealerships). May I ask what dealership you got your final price from?
  • pghsteelers20pghsteelers20 Member Posts: 2
i got quoted 17800 OTD yesterday, the first place quoted me at 18500 OTD and then i emailed him the other quote i got and he said he cant go as low as 17800...have you heard anything about your deal? does it seem to be a good one? let me know as soon as you find anything out, and ill do the same for you. thanks
  • dhhinc1dhhinc1 Member Posts: 3
Could you be a little more specific? What model?; How much was Tax and Tag?; How much was your CARS rebate? That would leave me with the car plus and dealer options and fees, a better reference to compare quotes.

    Thanks
  • christine118christine118 Member Posts: 22
That sounds high to me. I know the LX S is more than the regular LX but not that much more.
  • geerome99geerome99 Member Posts: 1
Lowest online quote I received in Socal area for a Civic Coupe EX was $18,1XX. I went to a dealership who said he would match it. Then when he found out I was redeeming a car through the CARS program, he said "no discount on the sticker price" ($22,5XX). This was El Monte Honda.

Also went to dealer in Alhambra who said they would drop the sticker price by only $600 if using the CARS program. I asked if it were a more discounted price if I didnt trade in a car, to which the salesman replied it was illegal to say so, but "the car wouldnt be in stock at that price if you were to do cash for clunkers." Looks like the dealerships have taken full advantage of the CARS program.. there's almost no incentive to shop for a new car now. They're just using the program to lure buyers in.
  • pghsteelers20pghsteelers20 Member Posts: 2
I live in Pittsburgh and I got quoted at 18,500 out the door at the first dealership i visited. The second dealership quoted me at 17,800 out the door. I called the first dealership to see if they would match and they said the lowest they can go is 18,200 OTD. So the offer stands at 17,800 OTD for the Civic LX at the dealership plus I have a 4,500 clunker to trade in.

I need some advice and quickly because the inventory has practically run dry. I'm not quite sure how much tax, tags, and title are, but its all built into that 17,800 OTD price. Help me out please.

Last night, I bought a 2009 Civic Coupe EX Auto with sunroof, wheel locks, splashguards, trunk tray...ect for 17,950. No cash for clunkers & paid $20,062 OTD. The dealer is Carson Honda ask for Caddy. I think only one 09 Civic EX coupe black left. It's a good deal! I'm happy :)
  • vettedreamervettedreamer Member Posts: 10
"drop the sticker price by only $600 if using the CARS program..."
That's when you run away from that dealer!
  • doanmquangdoanmquang Member Posts: 34
You should not waste your time with the dealers. You contact the internet sales manager and ask them to give you a quote,

    Sale price
    Destination
    Dealer Accessory option
    Doc fee

    Tax (depend where you live)
    Title Registration $18
    Lemon Law $3

I think you can do the typing talk for you

I am looking for Honda Civic Sedan Ex-L automatic

    I got the quote
    Sales: $19,062
    Destion: $710
    Doc fee : $599
    Dealer Option Accessories: $795

If you are still in the market for an LX or EX, try the internet dept at Diamond Honda in the City of Industry. I received a quote of 15,588 for an LX, and an EX for 17,288. Both prices included destination charges, but not taxes or license, plus a small document fee. This was in the last week of July. Went in the dealership on Saturday to look at colors and met the internet salesman. This was the Saturday before C4C started. After a short discussion, the price quoted was the price we paid for a 2009 Civic EX sedan in silver, no added accessories. Then they took my old 92 Chevy suburban and gave me 4500 dollars off the price of the car, then beat my finance rate that my credit union preapproved me for. I am extremely happy with the Civic, our second one, and happy with the deal. No stress, and no negotiating at the dealer. The biggest problem was choosing between the LX and the EX, and the color. Both quotes were for automatic transmission cars.
  • christine118christine118 Member Posts: 22
I think the $17,800 OTD sounds decent, but then again I'm not sure how much the price is excluding your sales tax? I'm in NY, and I was able to get price of $16,500 for LX sedan that includes destination but excludes NYS tax and tags and title. With NYS tax, I'm looking at around $17,900ish out the door, but that doesn't include the tag and title. My sales tax adds on $1400 unfortunately.

I think that is a pretty reasonable rate considering you're doing a clunkers trade-in because I've read some dealers are selling at MSRP prices and not negotiating at all. Right now, it seems hard to negotiate but read back a couple of pages to compare prices. I didn't get a great deal like some people, but I don't think it's bad especially with the $4500 credit.

Also, you should find out if in PA, do you get taxed on the whole amount or the amount AFTER the credit is applied? In NY, the whole price gets taxed, but it's not like that for all states.
  • christine118christine118 Member Posts: 22
$17,288 for an EX including destination? That's crazy. Great deal though.
  • vettedreamervettedreamer Member Posts: 10
he said it was before C4C. I think the price has risen quite a bit since the C4C started.
