Oh, I thought he had done the C4C since he said he got $4500 credit for trading in his truck.

Ive been offered $19,600 OTD so far on a 2009 Honda Civic Lx Sedan Automatic. Is that to high? i think it is i sent emails through LA and OC dealerships for quotes and im trying to get the lowest price but even anything above $19000 sounds like way to much compared to what ive read people are paying. Any advice? Also i wouldnt be part of the C4C and would be doing the 3.9% financing.
  • mllewellynmllewellyn Member Posts: 25
That is waaaaaayy to high for an LX. I got an EX back in May for $19,4xx OTD which is a reasonable price but I have seen lower for the EX. You should be looking anywhere between $17,700-$18-400 for an LX. Anything higher, just leave or negiotate down. Dont feel pressured to buy it. Besides, the 2010's are coming soon and they're gonna want to get rid of the old ones. Although the OTD price may vary from person to person because of the State tax and various doc fees, you can still get an idea of what to pay for. Good Luck

    P.S.
Dont forget that some people here have been lowballed becasue of the Cash for Clunkers deal. Alot of dealers are raising the price (some even to the MSRP price) when selling the car if there is a C4C. That's something else to keep in mind.

Brookdale - Inver Grove was actually a little cheaper but Brookdale matched it.
  • cyclone2003cyclone2003 Member Posts: 1
It includes tax, tag and title. 17,600 OTD.
  • samilpzsamilpz Member Posts: 4
I ended up getting the car for $18870 OTD. Is that a bad price? It's much better then the other offers i was offered by the other dealers which were above $19000. I dont think its to bad considering the sales tax here is 9.75% which is extremely high. Also got 4.9% financing. Overall do you guys think it was a good deal?

Can you send my your salesman at Grand

Just bought a 09 Civic LX in MN:

    $168**
-$150 trade-in value (not sure why)
    -$4500 clunker
    +Tax/Doc/Fees

    $132** OTD

I know I might be able to get $1-200 lower than that in MN/St Paul area but don't wanna spend too much time on it. Was considering a 09 Sonata GLS but dealers were asking MSRP and base models are almost gone. Comparing b4/After C4C program price I guess Civic is a better buy as its price did not jack up like crazy. Happy with the car :P

Went to Fairfax Honda in Fairfax, VA, and Sport Honda in Silver Spring, MD so far today.

Both places would not sell below MSRP. With CFC, this is definitely not a good time to buy.

Does anyone know of any Honda dealers in the DC/MD/VA area that will still sell you a car below MSRP?

    This is ridiculous.

Received a OTD offer for a 09 EX-L honda civic sedan auto fron kuhn honda in Tampa for 21,000 seems high, should I be able to do better?
  • ndamusndamus Member Posts: 1
I have an offer from Koons Honda in Manassas, VA for a LX Sedan for $17848 (including tax/tag/freight). So after CFC that would be about $13400 for me. Is that a fair deal? Ourisman Honda in Bethesda is quoting me at 16468 + TTL/Freight for a LX-S. That would come out to about $17871 including TTL. Thoughts?
  • quang1954quang1954 Member Posts: 1
    Landmark Honda.
    2009 LX-S 18,600 OTD
    Got it on 8/13/09.
Fairfax Honda Suck and bad attitude.
  • jsdilopsjsdilops Member Posts: 60
I was quoted 17800 OTD on a 09 Civic LX 4dr AT over the internet. When I got to the dealership and they found out I had a Clunker trade-in they said they didn't have the car anymore. I went to another dealership with a similar offer, they said the quote was too old (2 days) and the price was automatically increased by 500.
I left. 2 more dealerships to try...
  • dsatexasdsatexas Member Posts: 2
I've been trying to track down a civic for the last several days and it seems like dealers here in Houston have no interest in selling them. I got a couple of quotes but no answers to my followup questions. Two told me they don't have any EX-L's in stock, wait for the next shipment, and the others aren't even answering. I'm ready for C4C to be over, this is getting ridiculous.

EDIT: Just got a mass email from one dealer saying the program is ending, "come to the dealership right away." If accurate, that's good news for buyers without clunkers.
  • baccus49baccus49 Member Posts: 60
Paid 13,1xx out the door for Civic LX 4-door.

    16,400
    +tax/title
    -$4500 clunker
    -$150 salvage value
    (few colors available)

No one in the OC is selling for less than sticker. Maybe 500 if you pay cash instead of 0%. Had to drive out past Riverside.

Got $16,400 quote from USAA. Zero haggle. Probably could have haggled more since I think they taxed me on my $4500 clunker (a roughly $500 difference) but I came in expecting to pay 13,5xx so was pleasantly surprised.

If you have USAA give their car buying feature a try. If you have a clunker and your in the market for popular models I don't think you can beat it.

Yesterday was bad and good experience. Been talking with Berkeley Honda (used Edmund and wrote I have a clunker to trade), They gave us a price of $17500 plus tax and license. I called the saleperson (Quan) at 3:30 pm, to confirm what paperwork I need to bring for the clunker. When we got there at 4:15 pm, 1st thing out his mouth, I don't think I can give you that price if you have a clunker. Bring the manager in, long story short, new price $18950. To top it off, manager said, I should be happy I am getting $4500 for my clunker. What, that's not my fault the gov't is offering this deal, he was trying to justify the change of price? Walk off.
Called Livermore Honda, they gave us the price of $17896 plus tax and license. Deal was done in 1.5 hr. I thought I will share my experience with you guys.

After looking at Civics for the last year I thought with the cash for clunkers program I would pull the trigger to purchase. Knowing the quotes I was getting months ago I just cant see paying either msrp or close to it when I was seeing prices as low as 2K under msrp months ago. Even with my 1999 suv with 130K miles and getting more than I would if I sold the car just cant to it. If I could get the deal I could of got months ago and the $4500 I would buy but looks like that is not going to happen.

I hate it that dealers are using this to sell cars for more to stupid consumers. I am very frugal.

I have been quoted $16,528 includes destination, plus tax/tags for a Honda Civic LX - no C4C to trade in, so this is the price I would pay - does it sound like a reasonable price or can I do better?

    Thanks in advance!
  • tommy_trantommy_tran Member Posts: 1
Got a Civic LX 2009 Sedan, 4 DR 5A for Invoice + 300 which is $17828 including Tranport, after tax and licences, documents, out of the door $18878, minus $4500 C4C, I paid $14378 OTD at Round Rock Honda in Round Rock, TX. That was a week ago.
  • cleveohiocleveohio Member Posts: 4
I negotiated the price on civic LX with mudguards to $16200. Is this a good deal?
I know the clunkers program is coming to an end on Monday. Can i do better if i waited for another week?
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Actually, you CAN'T do better if you wait another week because C4C ends Monday. This looks like a good deal (assuming it's BEFORE deducting the C4C cash) and if I were you I'd jump on it before C4C ends or the car is gone.
  • jsdilopsjsdilops Member Posts: 60
That was exactly the number what I negotiated with the dealers, got 2 in the 168xx range, but this was definitely my target price, 16528 (without dealer fee), 17704 OTD (6% tax). Go for it. But, if you don't have a Clunker, you're better off waiting till Tuesday, so they don't play any games with you. Good luck
  • flipsidejoeflipsidejoe Member Posts: 3
This is a very good deal. Run to the dealer and get it right away. Before the clunker program got started, by best qoute I got was $15998. You have 4 days to do it. Call 1st and make sure the price is still good.
  • cleveohiocleveohio Member Posts: 4
Thank you, but i do not have a clunker to trade. THis will be a straight purchase. Thats why i was wondering if the prices could go down after the CAR program ends on Monday
  • flipsidejoeflipsidejoe Member Posts: 3
My advice wait until C4C is over. Before C4C, best quote was $15998 plus tax and license. Wait until new inventory comes in.
  • jsdilopsjsdilops Member Posts: 60
It depends, is there a dealer fee, and how much?, 16200 is a very good price without a dealer fee, I'd say 16500-16600 is good enough, but it depends on the region. Carsdirect is always a good reference, but don't look at it now, they just raise the prices on all Civics 'cause the C4C program.

2009 Honda Civic LX Coupe Automatic
I sent out request for quotes within one hundred miles from my area in NYC. I included NY, NJ and PA. I only got back about 5 quotes in e-mail, I guess dealers were too busy dealing with the rush from the C.A.R.S Program.
All quotes were within $300 of each other, ranging from $16,300 to $16005. $16,300 was the closest dealer to me in NYC and $16,005 was in Philadelphia area.
Then I received a call from the "Internet Sales Specialist" at Plaza Auto Mall in Brooklyn,NY. We spoke for a few minutes, I told her the car I wanted and the best qoute I received of $16,005 she said today was my lucky day because she was going to sell me the car for $15140. I said that would be $15,140 plus Dest. charges am I correct. She said no sir that would be the total and I would only have to add tax and tags to the $15,140 price. I then asked again if there were any other fees added on that I should know about or Doc Fees she said no sir.
I went on to ask if my 2 color choices were available, she had me hold on for a minute, and then said she had 4 in my first choice and 3 or 4 in my second choice. I hung up the phone and made the trip to Plaza Auto Mall about 1/2 hour away from my house. When I arrive at the dealer she the "Internet Sales Specialist"
hands me off to a sales rep, when all is said and done the price comes $16,400 before tax and tags. I told him the quote was $1260 less at $15,140, he tells me that is before Dest. charges and the dealer prep fee of almost $500. I said I was told more than once by the internet sales specialist to only add tax and tags to the $15,140 . After some minutes going back and forth the sales rep called his sales manager into the conversation, then they said they were trying to locate the "Internet Sales Specialist" I spoke with earlier but she could not be found. After all the BS I also found out they didn't even have a car in my first 2 color choices after I was told they had 7 or 8 in my 2 color choices. I've seen plenty of car dealer tactics In all my years of buying new cars, but I have never seen anything as unprofessional as at Plaza Auto Mall. I spoke with a family member who also had a very bad experience at Plaza Auto Mall in Brooklyn, NY. Wound up at another dealer, and now I'm waiting on the approval to go through on my clunker at another dealer in NYC. Will post details when all is done.

    Update:

Ended up buying my car from Bay Ridge Honda In Brooklyn, NY only 10 minutes from my house. It was a Good experience unlike my experience at Plaza Auto Mall in Brooklyn.

    The Breakdown
2009 Civic LX Coupe Automatic With the Protection Package & Pinstripe.

    Price $16,300
    Tire Fee $12.50
    State Inspection Fee $10.00
    Dealer App Fee $45.00

TOTAL = $16367.50 Before NYS Taxes

    CFC - $4500
    Scrapback - $100

Total = $11767.50 Before NYS Taxes

I was able to get a better quote of $15,800 from Willis Honda in Burlington, NJ but they charged a document fee of $175.00 bringing the price up to $15,975 then I would have to travel 4 hours round trip to purchase the car and another 4 hours to bring my clunker in when the paperwork was approved, plus gas and tolls would bring the actual cost very close, also Willis Honda did not have my 1st color choice. I was surprised the quotes I received were pretty much in line with the quotes of those who did not have a clunker to trade in so I am happy paying $11,7xx for a car that stickers for $19xxx. My clunker had a street value of about $500.

Note: CFC paperwork took about 2 weeks to go through

I just bought a new LX-S for 12028 was the finally price, I had a 98 Explorer I traded in for C4C. But also got a additional 2999 off of the sticker price of 19,500.I thought it was a good deal, I could not imagine that I could buy a brand new Civic LX-S for 12,000.

If you are willing to drive an hour down south of Fairfax VA (I 95) then you can get a better deal. We just bought a HONDA CIVIC LXS model for $18,100.00 (OTD). Before buying, I also requested a quote from other Honda dealerships but the cheapest that I can get was $18,555. As usual, they keep on bragging about the C4C. It was harder to negotiate right now. Let us see what is going to happen when C4C ends.
  • doanmquangdoanmquang Member Posts: 34
I agree it is very difficult to negotiate on price with C4C. I called the Internet manager and it took him a day later to return my call or email me back. I wait to see what happened after C4C is end on Monday. I am sure other dealers will return my emails or quote back....

I just purchased a White Honda Civic LX-S from Honda cars of boston for $17200+tag+taxes+299 doc. fee. Been checking online for over two weeks. They have the only white LX-s in Massachusetts. Another dealer wanted 18000 with cash for clunker.
  • stackhose18stackhose18 Member Posts: 1
After the C4C program, the sale now should be slow right?
I didn't have a clunker for the $4500, thinking now is a better time to go there to negotiate the price.
What's the OTD price I should aim at for southern california area? $18K for a 09 Civic LX Coupe? What's the invoice price? Should I aim at the invoice price - $200?

Has anyone bought 2009 Honda Civic LX in Southern CA? If so, can you let me know the dealership & sales person info as well as the breakdown of the pricing? Thanks!

I am also wanting to purchase a new Civic, please share the detail price.

Base on my experience, most dealers stock are running low with little room to negotiate.... My target price is 17,500 OTD for LX

    Hey,
Can anyone help me on an idea of a good price I should aim for on a new 09 Civic LX-S? Im looking in North Carolina so if anyone has any idea of what I should set my price to aim for please let me know. I have been talking to dealerships and have started to get fed up with the roller coaster of prices. Please someone give me an estimate or example of past experiences. I just want to know what to aim for with the car the ttl I will add in later.
    Thanks

    Hi bmw530owner,

You are correct about dealers stock are running low. I have several internet quote and all of them mentioned to me that even at 18K OTD is not even possible at this time so I might just wait until they have more LX instock. My desire OTD price is the same as you which is $17,500. I'll let you know if I am able to get the price.
  • voltron12voltron12 Member Posts: 13
Wow, that is expensive! Adding in your clunker trade in, your total was over $22K. Yikes! Did you deal the price before telling them you had a C4C? Yikes!

I came across this thread and i just have to share it here as a cautionary tale. This guy nabaged to commit all the cardinal sins of car shopping, and probably invented new ones as well. Anyway, the thread is fascinating and would make anyone her who might have overpaid by $200 feel instantly better.

    Cautinary tale

The guy really isn't too bright.. Trading in a one year old car is going to seriously put you upside down, anyway.. He just has poor money management skills...

my wife and i purchased a 2009 civic ex 4dr automatic sedan for our daughters to share. The out the door price was 19644.53...18,033.21 (including destination charge)+349.00 document charge+1262.32 nj sales tax. Of course you have to pay nj dmv fees of 266.00 and a new tire fee of 7.50. Got a check for 100.00 back for referring ourselves as we have bought from this dealer before. we financed for a flat 10,000 at hondas 2.9% for 36 months ...payments are 290.72 per month. Btw the destination charge at this dealership is 670.00 so base cost of the car was aprox. 17363.21. Im now stuck with a1992 mits galant which didnt qualify for the c4c program....i might just get another civic anyway as this car needs new exhaust system and gastank repairs...see if they will still match my previous purchase.
