The dent (according to the owner of the car) happened when his Si rolled onto a van WHILE the parking brake was on!
Link to Fender Bender - Si rolled on to van
I didn't want to make a big deal out of it when I read it a few days ago coz' I would have put it in first or reverse gear. But a car shouldn't roll down anyway. But then I'm sure you'll say it is a feature of the car blah blah blah.
Anyway, it happened to me too a few times. Once I was on a very very slight inclide. I usually use the brakes but for some reason (the first time in many many years) I decided to use the parking brake while waiting for the light to change. I looked in the rear view mirror and see the car behind coming closer and closer. Then it hit me. I'm the one sliding backwards. Immediately hit the brakes and took it off parking brake. Granted the road was wet.
The second time was on my driveway. I had just put on silverstars and I wanted to see how it looks. I got off my car and my car started sliding down my driveway!
So from now on, I make sure the brake is ALL the way up and I make sure I put it in gear.
Although I don't recall now but I'm sure if I was on a steep enough incline, I would have automatically put it in gear in my mind.
My driveway is not at all steep in my opinion. But the car still slide down anyway.
So, I've to make it a point to always put it in gear. If I've time I'm going to see if the wheels are rolling as well or just sliding/slipping coz' of the wet condition. If it was rolling too, I'll be worried.
Lastly, I just saw someone on ephatch saying they got the civic SI for 15,700 out the door, sounds pretty incredible. Maybe its because I have to pay over $900 in taxes while other states have lower rates or if I lived in New Hampshire I wouldn't have to pay a dime. Makes me think that my 15,345 isn't good any more, yet I've looked around and cannot find anyone to really beat it in my area.
Has anyone gotten a lower price than 15,300 in the North East?
What I did was internet shop dealers within 400 miles and then offered the dealer where I test drove, who I hadn't had net contact with, $200 less than the best local quote and $800 more than the best long distance quote. They weren't tickled pink over the sales price and tried some last minute gigs, but I do think they were glad to get rid of one of their 5 or 6 '02 Si's.
Perhaps the key for me was that we all knew I could buy the car for $800 less if I were willing to spend a long day traveling. There are more details, including a link to a Chicago dealer advertising at 15K, in the posts above.
Good luck. I love my '02.
On a side note, I'm still 100% confused on my whole car situation. Not to get into it, but my brain revolves around economics and the benefit/cost of buying a 2002. Also, even though I am not too worried about an image, it is not a plus that all my friends say it looks like a minivan or an egg. Haha, doesn't everyone want to impress the girls with their car?
Yeah, I agree with you. Side moldings do not protect the door from dings any better. Mud flaps never compliments any car and visors too IMO spoils the looks of the car. Not to mention nose mask.
And you can forget about impressing girls in this car. You better have a gf. already
Oh yeah, skip on the S40 even if it is below invoice. That's not a real Volvo. It is a join venture bet. Mitsu and Volvo in Neatherlands and the car is actually produced by Mitsu, rebadged as a Volvo for NA.
Thanks for the tip on the S40, I had no clue that it was produced by Mitsubishi, no wonder they are selling for $3grand below invoice. Haha, no matter what the body looks like, if I want a mitsubishi, I'd go to their dealer lot.
I love the car! It's quiet (so far), and it should get me better gas mileage than my other car.
Assuming you bought an automatic it sounds like you did pretty good.
All the dealers in my part of the state appear to be stocked with only this year's models (which seems wierd considering how late we are in the year). Of course, they must not be selling too well, despite all the incentives!
So, has anybody bought an '03 Civic Si yet? If so, what did you pay for it (pre-tax)?
Thanks all,
john.
I've just finished internet shopping for an Si (bought an '02). The best quote I got on an '03 was 17.8K, TTL not included.
Anony: I'm way out here in OR, haven't seen a single '03 Si or the pretty blue yet, though I haven't done the regional tour....yet.
John.
What I did was go to the Honda site and use their dealer locator to find dealer websites in my city and cities within my willingness to drive. Most every dealer had an internet sales manager and an e-mail address. I simply wrote for a quote, making it clear I was price shopping and wanted a total price, out the door, not including TTL. The range of quotes was huge, and some of the dealers tried to play games; but by making it clear that I wanted a bottom line price on a specific model and year, I was able to get several competitive quotes. It worked, and took about two weeks.
The national Honda site was a huge help, and most dealer sites had an inventory search that told me what they had available.
Good luck!

I am looking to purchase a used civic 1999 and newer 5-speed coupe for under 10k total. Is anyone out there selling on with under 50,000 miles in the NE Ohio area? If so please let me know. Also I was at my local dealer and they have the 2002 SI's for 230 a month with 1,700 due at signing for 36 months. Buy back at the end is 12,500. Man thats a poor deal. Those things sure hold their value.
Thanks
Good luck finding a 99+ Civic EX for less than $10,000. You might be able to find one but it won't be in showroom condition. You might see those kinds of prices on ebay but you never know the real condition of the car.
16,800 base including destination
550 for spoiler including destination
495 dealer fee
1200 TTL
I saw 16800 was the invoice price on the cardirect website
he wanted 17,200 orginally
No hassles for warranties and all that stuff,
They had me there for 4 hours!! But other than that I am happy
The used car market and new car market is a buyers market and the prices are the lowest they have ever been and they are still dropping.

W/o any bargaining at all you can buy a EX 2DR for $15,8 or 4 door for $16,1 for 2003 including destination. This is not for Miami area but I would hope you could do at least as well in the Miami area. A spoiler is about $350 pre-painted and takes 1/2 hour to install so they made a little extra off you on that.
I have a 2001 Civic EX with only 26K, so can afford to wait.
Can anyone please tell me how much they paid for theirs from Columbus,Ohio Area dealerships?
5-speed Manual Transmission
No Side Airbags
Satin Silver Metallic with Black Interior
Sent quote requests out to several Honda dealers in the San Fernando Valley area of LA. Tony Blanchard at Thousand Oaks Honda won out after quoting me $15,500. That's $324 under invoice. Picked up the car the 8 hours after getting his quote!
Automatic Transmission
No Side Airbags
Satin Silver Metallic with Gray Interior
Received three internet quotes from area dealers, lowest quote was $16,781 (invoice cost)+ TTL.
Visited local dealer Roush Honda in Westerville, Ohio at 8:00 p.m. on 01/08/03. Dealer had just posted (that same day) some additional January specials on a board in their showroom. The only EX listed on the January special board was a gray 2003 Civic EX sedan, automatic, no side air bags, with carpeted floor mats and splash guards for $16,520 + TTL.
Roush also includes an extended warranty (7 years or 100,000 miles) at no charge for all new autos purchased from their dealership. In addition, Roush offers "Convenience Plus Cars"-for a one time charge of $80, customers get a rental car at no charge anytime their car is scheduled for routine maintenance at the Dealership (excludes oil changes and body shop repairs).
Roush was also offering 1.9% financing, but I was paying cash. Needless to say, I took their deal. Delivery was scheduled for the next day at noon, and I was out the door in 1 hour! (Salesman was Venko Nechovski, and he was excellent).
This is my 6th Honda (the last being a 95 Civic LX with 192,500 miles) and all have been extremely reliable.
Love my new Civic EX. I finally got my powered moonroof!
