I don't think I could keep something for 100K. I get bored with it too easily. I've put 42K on the Buick in 18 months and have a hard time imagining putting another 60K on it over the next two years. I've spent $3800 over the past 10 years purchasing four beater cars and probably as much in repairs. All but one have had working A/C. (The one was not equipped.) All lasted for three years or more except the one totalled less than thirty days after purchase. That one was half of the $3800, the best deal was the '79 Fairmont purchased for $100. It cost $1100 to drive in purchase, maintenance and repair after selling it for $500.
I don't think a 250K warranty would be good for me! They probably don't pay out much since few people keep vehicles that long.
But if it works for you, then great!
TB
considering a fleet of <$5000 cars 8^)
Here are some examples of deals in the Columbus area:
* I bought my fully loaded $24,100 MSRP Sedona EX Misty Blue/Silky Beige two-tone color for $22,900 not including tax and title.
* A dealer, Ricart, is offering 0.0% financing (for 36 months, if my memory is correct).
* Another dealer had advertised Sedona EXs for $800 off MSRP.
Has anyone noticed that there is another Sedona message board? That seems odd considering this one already exists.
Cookie-How'd the test drive go today?
Took delivery of my new Sedona today. I can't tell you how impressed I am with Kia Direct in La Crosse Wi. Every detail I questioned was addressed and taken car of by the GENERAL MANAGER! I drove it home 150 miles taking all the back county roads to keep my speed variated. Very impressive power! Rolls a little more than I like, but they told me out front the tires were not great as in most new vehicles. The stereo is outstanding, and the radio tuner is excellent (made by Alpine) The moonroof is great on a beautiful blue sky day. My butt got a little sore on the leather but that happens with me every time I get a different vehicle, I'll get used to seats, have to brake 'em in. Another interesting thing is the dealer told me I could do my own maintainance and not jepardize the warranty as long as I document everything and show reciepts for work I don't do. I'll take care of the work up to the 30K, and let them do that one, it's really the first major service. I had a very small wind leak in my passenger window, seemed to come and go. Other than that so far I am very pleased, time will tell " the rest of the story".
Congratulations Excelent on your purchase!
The only other problem I have had that Kia is still "working on" is some hesitation from a warm start.
Too much heat is not much of a problem in January..... but believe me it is quite the problem in August!!
I love my Sedona and too, am surprised that their are not more "problems"
I wish there were a power lock/unlock located on the passenger side. (my only major gripe).
I can't wait to go home and try it!!!!!!
No need to be afraid.
Koreans need to rewrite that manual...great detail, good manual, but lots of grammatical errors. Translation says funny things sometimes.
WOW> I had 2 people ask me about my Sedona today while I was out and about. I said,"Just Do It" take one for a drive. I can't wait till mine is broke in, so I can really drive this thing. Actually, when I put the tires on it I WANT, then I'll be able to DRIVE this thing. Excelent3
My Van came out in early August so maybe the first ones did not have that feature OR it is not working correctly. I am going to ask my dealer about it...
Also, I think the "average speed" readout is a laugher. Can anyone tell me if this feature has a practical, functional use or application? Better to have miles per gallon readout. When I get my customer survey I will mention this. I like the temperature readout and the miles till empty is OK. The CD storage is also a joke because you have to put the CD's in sideways =ing not being able to read the title of the CD! That little wire wrapped around th antenna is also kind tacky. Ever notice that? I can live with that because the tuner in the radio is excellent, if that has anything to do with the reception, I wouldn't know. I don't care for the large gaping holes left in the floor after you remove the middle seats, major dirt catcher, and uncomfortable when you are using the area for changing, putting skates on, etc. And those seats would be heavy for the average person to remove....no wonder they have WHEELS on them!
Heres another:

What I am hoping is the powertrain components do end up being as solid as the body seems to be.
Any mechanical problems so far?
BTW just a little trivia, the Sedona engine is a Hyundai engine based on a Mitsubishi design. The Sedona minivan sold overseas has a 2.5L DOHC Land Rover engine. I would have loved to see that version make it over here.
I believe Sedona was an entry but not the winner, which was Honda Ody.Please corect me if I am wrong or provide more info.
Read the all the posts on this board to see for yourself if there are any ongoing problems. Really, none to speak of, compared to the rest of the players in the market. We don't have a "Sedona 2002 problems" board, and hopefully never will.
It all makes sense. Kia needed to address reliability issues in a big way. They had to make a targeted move which would begin the trail of redemption concerning reliabilty. They made a tactical, gutsy move. Duke it out in the highly competive, brutal, minivan sector. And why not. Minivan buyers are ultra picky and uncompromising. They had to make a heck of a statement. They did their homework and did it well, and the end result is the Sedona. This Sedona is a winner, hands down.
The naysayers will always be out there, meanwhile I'm enjoying a the ride at one hell of a price! They should have named it the "Steal of the Year" award! Excelent3
which is similar to Car and Driver or MotorTrends in the USA. And the Sedona DID WIN first place for 2002 minivans beating the Odyssey. Says a lot about how truthful and objective American reviewers are! NOT!
Probably hell would freeze over before a KIA wins anything in the states.

"It may only be a Kia, but it is comfortable, practical and brilliant value for money" (diesel model reviewed).

There was a reference earlier in this forum (I think) to protecting the seats from the sharp edges on some car seats by using plastic pads on the seats. I purchased a set of 4 floormats from BJ's for $20. I put the square mats, fabric down, on the seats -fits like a glove. I then put a bath towel folded up to drape the seat. In a few years, the floormats can be re-purposed, enhancing the ROI. The bath towel is easily removed and washed, and protects against footprints, catches crumbs and absorbs spills.
Foremost, I hope everyone with car seat circumstances found the description in the manual regarding the no-slack/always-on retract configuration on the seat belts. (I wish GM had this feature on the cars we've had so far.)
The first step is to belt the seat in loosely and then pull the seat belt __ALL THE WAY OUT__ of the retract housing- you should hear a ratcheting sound as it retracts back in, and you should be unable to pull it out further as it retracts. (The belt will not reset until it is allowed to fully retract.)
Second, slide the chair to the full rear of the car position.
Third, grab, twist, heave, and sit on the car seat until there is no slack in the seat belt / do whatever it is you do to make sure the car seat is affixed to the vehile, including the LATCH strap.
Fourth, allow the seat to slide forward on its rails about two inches or so. Next to the non-release seatbelt feature, this was the best part to me. The seat is heavy enough and has enough torque in the spring mechanism to really put tension on the belt and glue the seat to the car!
Safe travels!
(Disclaimer: I have not had this configuration inspected or approved by any authority on car seat safety. In no way is this information to be considered the definitive procedure for ensuring proper installation of the car seat. Circumstances will vary. Always refer to the vehicle owner's manual and car seat manufacturer instructions for definitive information. While I am not a lawyer, I do not wish to be sued. However, I could probably play one on TV after sleeping at a Hilton.
I have had X10 in my home for over 3 years and I just programmed one of the buttons to turn on the living room light. I thought I was going to have to obtain the vehicle interface, but it turns out the antenna appliance unit from X10/RCA is all you need with the option in the van.
Motoring 2002 is a TV program. I believe it is only available in Canada on TSN(The Sport Network)which is based in Toronto but there is a website for Motoring 2002 and here it is:

Unfortunately, the site is under construction at the moment.
It you want to find out more about TSN, you can go to

I'm still having handling problems- left pull and constant correction to keep straight; got my fourth service appointment tomorrow!! Also, my Sedona, delivery date September 19, doesn't have the all-lock-from-the-right-door feature mentioned in a recent post. I tried it with ignition switch on and off, but the chrome lever only actuates the right door.
Completely off the subject: My LX came without a roof rack (one of those "need a vehicle now and if you don't buy what's there now it won't be available tomorrow" scenarios). My question is, we have an old Sears car-top carrier - the white top with grey bottom. It used to go on the Caravan fine without a roof rack by fitting the metal bracket at the end of straps under the rail that ran along both sides of the roof just above the windows. There is no such thing on the Sedona (and most new models). How do you attach the carrier? If a roof rack is needed, what kind do I get? Appreciate any thoughts from you.
Sounds like the classic gutter mount setup to me. I did some checking into the roof rack situation myself. You can obtain ratcheting or manual tie down straps at almost any Home Depot or harware store, secure right to the roof rack itself. Also, Yakima is in the process of developing a mounting system for their racks as we speak, if enough people call them and ask for it. Yakima @ 1-888-925-0703. This way you can use your old bars with the new mounts they develop.

He is keeping the car until tomorrow.
One more thing that is different in the Sedona-- You cannot get a key made at th usual places; the Walmart or other source replacement keys won't fit into the key hole. I just got a new spare at the dealer, but it cost me $10.88!!!
Geeez, I would get them to offer you some kind of concession, coupon, etc for your hassle! Be reasonable but assertive. My Windstar '2000 is a good example: When it arrived it had dirt in the paint in several spots. They offered to re-paint, a brand new $26,000 van! I was not happy. They scheduled me for oil change on Labor Day ( we specifically asked them "Are you Open?") and we went in, they were closed. Then they scheduled me for 12:00 noon during the week, we went in , they "don't do oil changes over the lunch hour". That was the last straw. I threatened to give them the van back(I know the GM personally) and I very politely told him where he could put it (Hint: a very dark place where the sun doesn't shine) After that episode they asked me what they could do for me to make me a happy camper. Bear in mind they are trying to win me back as a " valued customer" after my mint 95 Taurus LX wagon 3.8 engine blew up!
1a) Got another $750 off price 1)I got lifetime tire rotation and balancing 2) lifetime brake work 3) Lifetime transmission changes 3) Lifetime oil changes 4) once a year they detail the car inside and out. Moral of the story: If you don't ask you don't get, Dont' be afraid to ask! I always ask for more then what I expect they could do, and then I settle for what I really wanted in the first place. If they want you as a repeat they have to make it worth your while. You lived up to your end of the bargain...You bought the vehicle. This morning I had to schedule a defective tie rod end at only 15,000 miles and a recall blower motor. They will GIVE me a loaner vehicle.
I will NEVER, EVER, EVER own a FORD (Fix Or Repair Daily) again! And thats the "rest of the story." Excelent3
We got 21.8 mpg on the way up to PA, and 21.4 on the way back to TX. And I spent most of my time in the passing lane, at 75 MPH ++. Handled great, and the comfort for all passengers was exceptional.
We now have 9800 miles on the van, and these are my only negative comments:
1. Rear heater...sweat or freeze. No thermostat control, and it gets toasty for rear passengers very quickly. Cut the rear heat, and the rear passengers freeze. Temp control does not control rear heat.
2. Storage space must be managed. If you think you will have a lot of gear on return trip, remove a seat.
3. Engine still whines like an old GM pick-up. Dealer swears it "is normal".
4. Paint is very fragile. Small bumps WILL chip paint.
Everything else is wonderful. This is a good van.
As for MPG survey: 21.5 Highway, 14 city.
Kindest regards:
Hokum from Houston.
I agree a separate (functioning!) rear heater temperature control would be beneficial no doubt. Glad you had a great holiday trip.
Happy motoring Folks!

Just a friendly jab.
I would take a stick shift over a larger engine in my MPV!
