I have a 2003 SR5 (no tow package). I'm looking for a T-connector to plug into a trailer w/ a flat 4-pin wiring, but I can only find an adapter for a 2001-02 sequoia. No one seems to have an adapter for the 2003 sequoia, not even the toyota dealership! Anyone know where to get an adapter for the 03 Sequoia? Thanks -ajinnm@hotmail.com
Here's an option that you can benefit in more ways than one. Try a portable lap top computer with a dvd player. You can then load up your laptop with MP3s and connect them (various ways) to your existing system. Also, you can purchase a navigation system with road maps for your laptop (I used to work out of my car and used a streetmap program). A lot cheaper, a little bulkier, but you also get a laptop out of it. You have to be a little creative in mounting it.
Has anyone upgraded to a K&N air filter? Has your mileage improved enough to warrant the extra cost of a K&N, plus the time spent cleaning the filter. Based on all of the cleaning kits I saw for this, it sounds like it's pretty involved. How about the TRD filter? How does it compare to a K&N?
Anyone with a preference for bug deflectors or bras/masks. After all the crud that collects on the flat front end of the Sequoia, I'm thinking a bra/mask would offer better protection, but I haven't seen a Sequoia with one, so I'm not sure what it would look like. Would I have to go through the hassle of unhooking the thing evertime I needed to open the hood? The bug deflectors look cool, but I don't think they really protect that much. Any thoughts? If anyone has run across a photo of a Sequoia with a bra, let me know.
I have a front end mask on my Sequoia. In south Florida during bug seasons I find it offers excellent protection. It was at first, not the easiest to install, but after the initial install when using it again it became more user friendly. You can open the hood easily since it comes it two sections. The top part covers the upper portion of the hood and grill area with an opening in the grill. The bottom section covers the entire bumper with openings around the headlights and fog lights. I purchased mine from my local Toyota dealership. Here is a link with a photo of what it looks like:
Has anyone had their stock chrome emblems gold plated? I'm not talking about the factory gold package, but someone that actually comes out to your home with a plating machine and electro plates by removing the chrome plating first, then applying a gold plating once the chrome is removed right on the vehicle. I recently had this done and was unaware previously that this was even possible without having to remove the original badging. The results were amazing as I wasn't sure how it would look on the Thunder Gray color. It took the woman about three hours to complete and the results are great! Here is a link to the photos and one of them shows the front end mask posted earlier.
Thanks for the link on the mask. What color is your Sequioa? Mine's Silver. I think the mask will look pretty good on Silver. I can't believe how many bugs it collected on it's first drive home from the dealership.
Jury's still out on a hood protector. I'll post some photos on the Sequioa photo board if I ever make up my mind. I'm also thinking of getting some vent shades for the side windows.
Having bought my 2003 Sequoia without the load leveling rear suspension option, I have now found that it would be nice to have. Does anyone know much about the system. My local dealer was not able to get much info from Toyota other than a part number form some shocks that require new springs. My guess is that the marketing for this option was overblown for what amounts to heavy duty springs and shocks as opposed to some "smart" suspension that adjusts according to varying loads on the fly. My initial impression from reading about the option was that some type of advanced hydraulics were involved. Any info on after market options would be appreciated.
I ordered a 2003 with the Load Leveling Rear end. Myself and the dealer were under the same impression some hydraulic or air activated setup but we were wrong (and disappointed). It is as you stated a different pair of springs and shocks that supposedly self adjust. I have not really loaded it down yet to see. If your looking to add, look at www.airliftcompany.com they have a new setup with sensors to auto level. It is an airbag setup that goes inside the springs so only used when needed.
Thanks for the link sequoiasoon! Although the website does not mention any products for a Sequoia, I have sent a request for information on future offerings or perhaps a lead to another retailer. I'll post my findings.
I went through the airlift site. They list a kit for the Sequoia for the bags. The auto leveling is a "universal" kit that you mount so it senses actual ride height between body and axle. Good Luck. Let me know whaat else you find.
What do you do with current brakelight above the rear hatch if you put a spoiler on the SR5? Doesn't it block it? If the spoiler has a break light too, it wouldn't look very good.
I just took delivery on a new SR5 and have the following questions.
- Has anyone compared the cargo liner made by Husky versus WeatherTech? Local dealer had Husky ($140). I saw WeatherTech in the book, he said same manufacturer. A quick search tonight makes me think they are different. I know the Husky liner reaches to the back of the second row, don't know about the WeatherTech
- How about the door sill protector. Anyone seen it? How does it compare to VentShade product? Anyone know if an aftermarket stainless steel version is available
- Door Visor - I do not want the kind that use 2 sided tape. Seems to me I saw a reference in the Sequoia (maybe Tundra Solutions article) town hall, but I cannot find it tonight. I recall it clipped into the door frame some how. I see where VentShade has Qwik Snap - a tapeless, clipless visor, but does not appear to be available for Sequoia.
- one last thing, who has the cheapest Toyota factory parts on the web?
The existing 3rd brake light is disconnected and the harness plugs into the spoiler....which has the 3rd brake light with LEDs. The old brake light is well covered by the spoiler and simply doesn't come on.
is a PIO (port installed option) which is a TOTAL rip-off! It's nothing more than a cheap wax that is applied on the vehicle. If you haggle with them, they'll remove the charge for the option and act like they've done you a favor. Total joke.
Husky and Weathertech Different companies as you found. Both make versions that reach second row. They also show where to cut them so you can still use third row (but of course less protection due to 6 cutouts in middle) Matter of preference. I got Husky because performance products had a sale buy one get 1/2 off second (my brother-in-law had just picked up a grand cherokee and wanted one also)so we split it.
I have the door sill protectors from factory (dealer?)option not sure who makes it, looks nice (black and Sequoia is molded into it)seems to hold good and does the job it's supposed to.
Door visor check performance products website. There "house brand" has no tape and sticks inside weatherstrip channel.
scubadiver1 - did you ever get the wiring harness for the hitch installed? I am in ATL and called SS Toyota. The harness is $195.00 plus about 2 hours to install. No one knew if it was a DIY install. This is a replacment harness for vehicles that had a factory hitch harness installed. That was last week. Monday I stopped in parts and they said Toyota released two new part numbers (maybe it was SouthEast Toyota). The descriptions were not very good, so he ordered three of each, one appears to be a converter of some sort while the other is a plug in harness with a 7 pin connector for a cost of about $30.00. According to parts, this is the first year the 7 pin connector is available and this part is similar to the 4 wire flat that is offered for 2001-2003. The converter came in today, I hope to get the harness tomorrow, hopefully it is what he thinks it is....
I have seen several picutres of this deflector. I can see where the deflector it attached to the car by two clips that are attached to the hood, just above each headlight. Can anyone tell me how the deflector is attached to the hood in between the two clips above the headlight (i.e. in the area above the grill? Also the strips that surround the grill, are they secured with a bracket, or are they supported from behind with one of the bumpers that typically mounts along the hood.
The deflector is held onto the hood by raising the hood, removing the grill (just a couple of screws, nothing big), placing foam rubber tape where the grill contacts the hood and then putting the deflector BETWEEN the grill and hood tightening the screws. It's amazingly simple. No drilling and incredibly secure. Absolutely NO vibration at highway speeds. There are clear rubber bumpers behind the deflector that keep it from contacting the hood. The clips out toward the edge don't do much except eliminate movement and vibration at the edges. See my pics here ... http://www.tundrasolutions.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&- amp;- amp;- amp;- amp;ppuser=5564&thumb=1 I've had mine now for about 1 yr. and it's absolutely trouble free.
Prevent rocks from hitting the WINDSHIELD!?!?!? WHAT!?!?! It's a hood deflector and will only protecter the leading surfaces of the hood from debris. Even the large "barn door" type hood deflectors won't do anything for your windshield. Some will create an upturn of air that tends to direct bugs over the windshield, but as far as rocks......carry insurance....lot's of it.
Thanks raddboy41. I ordered my deflector today, should have it by the weekend.
deviyiya - I ordered the deflector that raddboy41 shows in discussion #136. As you can see, it offers the most protection of any bug deflector I have seen, in that it comes down around part of the grill
For the bumper, trim around the grill, and small piece of body between the grill and the bumper, I am considering a transparent bra. It is a 3M product known as Scotchcal. There are several companies that sell kits for various cars. Although they re-label it, the product is still Scotchcal. There is a discussion about it in the maitenance discussion. The following websites are three of more popular suppliers - xpel.com, stongard.com, and invinca-shield.com.
I am not getting the hood done with the 3M product becuase I have a white Sequoia. I have been told the 3M product will be more visable (slightly yellow) on a "pure white" (which Toy color is close to) car as opposed to any other. I have seen two differenct cars with this product installed. You cannot even see it....
FYI, for those looking.. I Purchased both the cargo liner (which extends up to the back of the second row) and the second row liner for what appear to be a great price.
In #132 sequoiasoon told me the Performance Products house brand of door visor is clipless / tapelss.
Has anyone purchased these or any other clipless/ tapeless door visors? Does the mounting system (which I think is tension) work well in the Sequoia? What brand do you have?
From what I have seen there are two brands (clipless / tapeless for Sequoia) available, WeatherTech, and EGR. I was told EGR makes them for Performance Products.
I just bought a 2003 SR5 and I'm thinking about buying a a Front End Mask. There seems to be a lot of the same brand (TRD) on the Internet, does anyone know of any that are high-end and/or have a sporty logo on them (I saw one yesterday on an ML500 that looked pretty cool).
I've heard too many horror stories about masks. You solve one problem (chips) for another (scratches and abrasion). A 3M clear mask is the only way to go! Virtually invisable, stays put and protects the paint from all of the above.
Don't know about a winch bumper, but I know there is a frame mounted front hitch (receiver) available for the '03 with a 2" receiver tube. There is a winch mounting plate (on witch a winch can be mounted) that can be inserted into the receiver as an accessory. I believe the receiver is a not drill installation.
I own a 2003 4 wheel drive sequoia and under certain conditions I would like to turn off VSC. Is it possible to turn VSC off in 2 wheel drive or in 4 wheel drive without locking differential?
Anyone got any creative ideas on what to do with the silly sunglass holder console on the ceiling? What's it got like 6 differnt compartments? What were those guys smoking when they dreamed that thing up?
I just bought a '04 Sequoia LTD, and am looking to add some modifications, even though I'm not that handy... I like the bug deflector that Raddboy has. I also saw a Sequoia with some kind of a grill over the brake lights, but I can't seem to find anything like that on the Internet. Does anybody have it, or can anybody help point me to one?
Also, I'm looking to get a DVD and overhead display. Can anybody recommend a setup (budget about $1,000 or less)? Thanks.
Along the same lines as the DVD system, does anyone know of a decent after-market navigation system that can be installed in a Sequoia that will look and function well?
We own a 2001 SR5 Sequoia with no running boards. Was wondering if anyone had any advice as to the best & cheapest way to find them. I have looked at some websites but am not really sure which is the right kind. Would really appreciate your help.
After reviewing the possible Mats I went with the nifty catch-all xtreme set at www.mats4less.com. I got the front, 2nd row and Cargo (with rear seat cut-outs) for 251.97 shipped. Not the cheapest. But I was disappointed with the stock carpeted mats. Poor coverage. They're Ebay material.
I drive frequently through rural UP Michigan where deer on the road are a consistant problem. Anyone know of a good bumper to add on to deflect deer, if unfortunately hit, from being thrown up on hood and windschield?
Can someone tell me where can i buy a color coordinated vent shades? I have a white 2004 seq sr5. I saw one two weeks ago on a gray sr5. It really looks good!!!!This is the first time I've seen in color. Most vent shades are smoke in color.

Edmunds does not list as option but dealer has addtional charge for it.
thanks in advance

79.95 cargo liner
51.95 2nd row liner
5.95 handling charge
Based on my research this appears to be very good, as the shipping is usually very expensive for this due to the size of the box (dimensional weight)

Anyone using a Donnelly or Gentex autodimming mirror with compass/temp for their Sequoia? Opinions? (They run about $180)
Or should I just buy the console from a parts yard that has this stuff integrated?
Also, I'm looking to get a DVD and overhead display. Can anybody recommend a setup (budget about $1,000 or less)? Thanks.

What does the 2004 Sequoia Limited come with? Is it one of these?
Does anyone know of a factory looking leather steering wheel cover that I might install?
Thanks in advance. Much appreciated.
