When I shopped for our Sequoia 8 months ago, the DVD option could only be chosen if you selected the Sunroof/w tilt option for an MSRP of $800. And the Sunroof could only be chosen if I added either one of the Alloy Wheel Packages, PKG #1=$1300, PKG #2=$1400 That's just how Toyota packaged their options. So I'd have to tack on a minimum of $2100 and then I could add their $1100 dvd system. So instead of spending over 2k more for options I didn't really want, I opted to install an aftermarket DVD system instead.
We're in the process of "ordering" a SR5 using Edmunds' information to specify certain options.
My question is regarding the JLB Premium Combo options ("EJ" and "DJ"): Are these two options an upgrade to a basic radio/cd player included in the base price? Must I select either of these two options in order to get any music equipment at all?
Well, no one's replied, so I'll offer up my recollection from when we shopped for ours in July of 03' You didn't specify which model your ordering, so I'll tell you both SR5's and Limiteds come with a radio/cd/cassette as standard. Only difference is the Limited should come with the first JBL option as standard and the SR5 has the same head unit, but only 6 Non-JBL speakers.
I have the first JBL option with my SR5 and it's a very decent system. Besides the JBL speakers, there's an amplifier with this package as well. The next upgrade audio pkg is the same, except it has the 6-cd changer.
Also there's the preferred pkg, which is separate from the audio pkgs, but among other things, it has the steering wheel audio controls. We didn't get that on our Seq, but my Nissan has it and besides being very convenient, it adds an small addtional layer of saftey when you consider you don't have to take your eyes off the road to change the radio settings.
Anyone know if you can purchase chrome rocker panels for the lower side doors? The panels would be located between the door mouldings and running boards.
to my 04 Blue Marlin SR5. I added an auto dimming rear view mirror which really help with glare from behind, Muthco signal mirrors, rhino rear hitch step, window ventshades, tinted front windows, 20" wheels with Kumho tires, and a compustar alarm system with remote start and built in pager. My next step...I am thinking about true HID's. It costs about $500 and I'm t5hinking if its worth it or not. I have them on my Lexus and when I had my BMW 325ci. Any opinions?
I have some passengers that need help getting into my 04 SR5. I've looked for a retractable step bar that would provide an additional step between the passenger side running board and the ground. I'd like it to retract up and under the running board when not in use. Anybody seen anything like that on the aftermarket ? thanks
I've had the 2nd generation TRD supercharger installed on my '03 Sequoia. I live in Florida at sea level, never had it above 1200 feet elevation (North Georgia). I would think the computer (which is new w/SC) would compensate via the MASS air flow sensor, I've heard of some vehicles requiring resetting the computer by having to turn the vehicle off after reaching a higher elevation (4000 ft.) and turning it back on. Don't know if the Sequoia will automatically recalibrate or not. What I do know of running the SC for 25K miles is: 1)MPG was hardly affected 1-3 mpg less, (thought it would be more). 2)Blows the doors off a Chevy Z77. 87 to 91 octane it runs like SH*T, 93 octane is a must. 3)Headers are not avaliable for the Sequioa, only the Tundra (different suspension or engine compartment), really needs headers for higher exhaust rate. 4) A real "sleeper" at the stoplight, (can barely see the "supercharger" stickers) 5)Sounds great with the Borla cat-backs
Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket floormat that goes under the 2nd row seat that flips up to allow people to sit in the third row? People have to step there to get in and out so it will surely get very dirty. Help please!
Also, does anyone know what the capacity is for the roof rack on the Limited? It says 150 pounds, but I've been told it holds up to 250 pounds if evenly distributed. Help please!
i am thinking of buying a cargo cover. I was wondering how much of the back does it cover? If I have the last row seats tumbled, can the cover adjust so it can cover all the back? Or does it only cover the area behind the last row assuming that the seat is upright in its regular position? Thanks
I ordered one from the dealer and it covered the area from the far back up to and including the feet of the 3rd row. That way when the seats are flipped everything is still covered.
Thanks. My cargo carrier I used on my suburban is 130 lbs., so that leaves me very little weight left to use. I wonder if there is any way to modify/strengthen?
"Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket floormat that goes under the 2nd row seat that flips up to allow people to sit in the third row? People have to step there to get in and out so it will surely get very dirty."
I looked around town and searched the net, but did not find anything made to cover the area below the 2nd row for when they are tumbled forward. I purchased CatchAll mats for my Seq and then used one of the factory mats under the 2nd row. Another alternative is to buy some type of carpet cover and cut to fit. Either way will take some patience on your part. I had to cut holes in my mat for the foot clamps to get thru and it took a good 1-2 hours to get it just right. Every inch of the factory carpet of my Seq is covered now, which is a necessity with my kids. Just the other day my 5yr old spilled soda on the 2nd row mats.
I'm considering a new sequoia and love everything about it except the legroom available in the drivers seat. Is it possible to customize by moving the seat back a few inches?
I was wondering if anyone here knows of a company that makes clear corner lens for the Sequoia? Also, has anyone done any performance work on the Sequoia, such as chip or intake? With gas prices as high as it is, just wondering if the intake or chip provided any better gas mileage. Thanks
In the process of purchasing a cargo carrier that is inserted into the hitch. The weight capacity is 500 lbs. Question I have is the 2" receiver able to handle up to this amound of weight? Need the exact tongue carrying weight?
The maximum tongue weight is 620 lb. for 2WD and 650 lb. for 4WD so hitch carriers are well within the limits.
I used to have a Reese hitch carrier, but I returned it and got a Sport Rack instead. The Sport Rack seemed more sturdy and allows me to fold it out of the way when not in use. It's a bit heavier than the Reese and the 500 lb capacity includes the weight of the carrier. I put details of my experience on my web page: http://istargazer.ca
I have the stock one from Toyota. It does keek the hood clear of any bugs/stones, but does a poor job on the windshield. On my last vehicle (ford van) I had one from pep boys. it did a great job, so good that when you were driving on the freeway, it you tried to wash your windshield the wind suction would draw the cleaning fluid away from the windshield. No bugs lost ability to use washer at speeds above 45MPH
I would like to know what type of DVD player everyone has and how much you paid for it with installation. Also, what size screen works best. Your responses are greatly appreciated.
I ordered a 2005 Sequoia Limited 4x4 about 2 weeks ago. I got the fully loaded model with the luxury package which has the navigation system. However, I am VERY disappointed that there is NO back-up camera in there!! The Sienna has it, the 4-Runner has it, the Landcruiser has it. Is there a reason why the biggest one out of all 4 trucks/minivan (which is obviously the Sequoia) does NOT have a back-up camera?? We asked the dealer if we can have one installed while the car is being built and they said it's not possible. Is there any way that we can do that? Or can the dealer install it for me after it gets delivered to them? I don't want to have another screen next to the Navigation screen. I would like it on the same screen just like the other models. I dont understand why the Sequoia does NOT have the camera and i want to know if it's possible to get one put in on the same screen as the Navigation. They said they can add another screen after the car comes in but i dont want that!! I'm hoping it's already in there and they just have not stated that on the website. Does anyone know anything about this????
I recently purchased a set of chrome wheels (17") for my 2002 Ltd. I wanted to get the OEM type that come on the 03-05 Ltd and I looked around extensively before I found some at Capital Wheels. At set of 4 cost $699.00 plus $49.00 to deliver them. They look like they came from the factory, great finish and have the OEM caps as well. Life would still be perfect if my wife had not brushed up against a curb and scratched one of them. Oh well, that's life. I would recommend that anyone that is looking to upgrade their wheels to check them out. (No I am not employed by them)
That's the exact same reason I don't let her drive my truck. I got 20" chrome wheels and tires on mine and it's worse because I have the lower profile tires. Another couple of weeks until I take them off and put the factory ones back on!
Does your Sequoia drive differently with the 20" rims? If so, could you please tell me how it's different. Basically, I'm trying to see if it makes the driving better of worse.
Really can't tell the difference yet. If anything its a little louder, maybe b/c of the kumho tires.I got them on 1 week after I got the truck. As far as handling, the same. I go 80 or so on the highway but really take it slow on turns. I'm gonna put the factory ones back on next week and try to sell them. Before the winter and get another set next year for the summer. Hope there's a buyer.
When you up your wheel size to 20" or better, you really need to consider upgrading your front disk to a larger size too. The larger wheels hurt your braking power.
Also, the tires with the short sidewalls not only ride harder and cause more road noise, they last half as long as a tire with a conventional sidewall. So, they last half as long, and cost twice as much. Although they look cool, the math doesn't add up for me.
Good point about the braking, unless they are using low profile tires on the 20" rims, if done right the outer wheel diameter is the same as normal tires on smaller rims.
Hello, This is my first time to post to this board, however i have been browsing the Board for two months. The info on this board assisted me in selecting the Seq over the Yukon and other vehicles.
I am about to order an 05 and have the Cen Texas dealer quoting me invoice prices. I think it is a deal.
One question however - I do not like the look of the Sunroof Wind Deflector. Does anyone here have a sunroof with out deflector? Will I have issues? Thanks to all!
I don't worry about my wheels too much. My brother owns a stereo/wheel shop so I get them for cost. Also, they aren't on all the time, just about 7 months a year so around 10,000 miles or so. It'll take a while for them to wear out.
I had an Audiovox system put in my '05 Sequoia and I love it. My dealer used two outfits that did custom video installs and I chose the larger one - AutoCo. They put the factory Toyota unit to shame. I chose a 15" overhead screen (4:3 aspect ratio). They did a really nice job in the installation. They mounted the Audiovox DVD unit in the front console and put a power inverter under the driver's seat with two 115 volt plug-ins and audio/video hookups for a game console (Playstation, game cube, etc.) The 15" also has a TV tuner, so I can pick up the local stations over the air. It also has an FM modulator so you can play the sound from the DVD or TV through your factory FM stereo by tuning it to a particular station. It also cam with a pair of Audiovox wireless headphones. They work really well. My son can use the headphones and watch his DVD and I can listen to the CD player and we don't bother each other. Keep in mind that with an overhead monitor, you will need to learn to use your side mirrors because your rear-view mirror is useless when the screen is down.
If you do your homework, you will be OK. I looked long and hard before I bought my '05. The largest wheel you can use and still maintain the factory overall diameter is 20", if you go with a 295/45/20 or 285/50/20 tire. If you go any larger than that, you have to consider a few things. 1) gearing and speedomter will change. I don't know of any aftermarket computer for Toyotas that will let you re-calibrate your speedo. There are many for Ford or Chevy, but haven't seen one for Toyota. 2) Increased wheel mass will strain your braking system and you really should install larger rotors and bigger calipers.
In my situation, I chose "Weld" brand forged 1-piece racing wheels that are actually the same mass or even lighter than the factory ones, so brake mods are not necessary. Yes, the ride is different with the wider-low profile tires, but I was expecting this and it is not that big a difference. The increased performance and the "kewl" factor far exceed any trade-off in comfort. I live in the Midwest and plan to run the factory 17" wheels in the winter months.
I have a 2003 Toyota Sequoia TRD. When I get to roughly 100 - 105 MPH the engines starts to come & go like there is a governor installed to prevent me from going any faster. This happens at about 3500-4000 RPM's. I don't think it is a rev limiter because the engine turns higher RPM's that that during acceleration. What give? Does anyone know?

Does that mean you CAN'T have both the Factory DVD AND the sunroof/moonroof???
How do you like the DVD from Toyota??
Raddboy...LOL...good one...$1300 to remove the sunglass holders. Hey, according to my kids, they hold gum and candy rather nicely too.
