No, it's not safe to do, you may want to, but you'd regret it. The Sequoia was not designed as a race car. I know how you feel, I regularly drive 95-100 on my daily commute to chicago, it'd be nice to go faster as it has plenty of pedal left but it's simply not safe in something that huge.
Not just huge but really heavy. No way the Seq. can maneuver in any direction if something were to come in your way such as a tire or deer.I go about 80 and I'm a cop. I save my leaded foot for my cruiser.
The Sequoia has a speed limiter. UNICHIP makes an aftermarket chip/computer that eliminates this as well as adding some other performance enhancements.
I checked on the unichip, they said they do not have them for the Sequoia yet...where did you get one? The only option I have found is that you cand send you Toyota OEM chip to Jet and they will reprogram...not a good idea.
Is it the FIPK filtercharger or the normal air filter on the K&N site? And really 2 mpg? What do you usually get now and before you got it on the highway? That's quite good (I have an 01 Sequoia).
I am looking at purchasing a 2005 Sequoia that has the DVD Pre-Wire option installed. Wondering which aftermarket DVD Video packaages can take advantage of the existing buttons and wires? Thank you!
Which Cen Texas dealer offered invoice on your 2005 Sequoia? Which model/trim did you get? It's a buyers' market for big SUV's right now, and the Sequoia is reportedly going to have a major redesign soon, so I don't want to pay more than invoice. I live in Central Texas, so your info would really help. I do a lot of rural highway driving so the bug deflector would be great. I'm more worried about keeping them off the hood than the glass. Which bug deflector, if any did you get. Also, did you get the Sunroof Wind Deflector and if so do you like it? Is your sunroof quiet? Thanks for any info you can share.
I have it on our SR5 and it's Great. Oil reserves in shocks, add to the main chamber, after moving with a loaded trailer hooked up. Makes it pretty near perefectly level.
Texasmom, Drop me a line at zlaneb@yahoo.com. I would be happy to answer any questions that you have.
I am 4 days into the new vehicle, and still loving it.
I don't know the policy of this about talking about Dealerships, so please do drop me a line via the mail.
Sunroof is VERY usable at or below 50. After 50 MPH it is OK, but it is obviously more noisey. I have the wind deflector, and haven't driven one without one.
Hello, I have a 4 year old that is functioning very well in the third row seat with the exception of he can't keep his feet off the back of the seat in front of him. I am looking for something i can use to protect the back of the seat. I envision something that would be minimally noticable from the front of the seat. Any suggestions? Thanks Zlaneb
The sunroof isn't too noisy when it's open going down the road, just the sound of wind, no whistling like I've heard from some. When closed it's completely silent like it's not there.
Dear Sirs ! I have 2001 Toyota Sequoia Limited 4*4. 1. Can I use tires 265/75R16 (f.e. Cooper Discovery (winter"s tires) ? I know that the standart size is 265/70R16. 2. Can I use wheels: 8*16 ET=0 PCD=6*139,7 ? I know that the standart is: 7*16 ET=15 PCD=6*139,7 (f.e. LENSO)? Thanks
I have a 2001 sequoia limited and all my accessories came from the site performanceproducts.com you can ask for a free catalog and most of the time they give 15%off for a first time buyer. They have almost everything you need for Sequoia.
Hello, all. I decided to get rid of my Honda Odyssey and just purchased an '05 Sequoia Limited. It's my first Toyota and I love it so far. One thing I'd like to add is a permanent connection for a 400w power inverter. On the Odyssey, I ran the wires from the battery to the cabin through a preexisting hole in the firewall. Is there a suitable place to do the same on the Sequoia?
Even better would be an existing 30A or 40A circuit I could tap into. The Ody has some unused circuits connected to the interior fuse box that could be used for that purpose. How about the Sequoia?
Also, is there a way to convert the front console DC power outlets from "always on" to "accessory on"? Right now I have to run a splitter from the cigarette lighter, which seems silly since there are two unused outlets right there.
Sorry if I dont do this post correctly would like to know what exhaust systems people are running. Ive been thinking about 2.5 inch with Flowmaster muffler from cat back, I will also be adding the K&N air filter. I love my Toyota Sequoia it has 60k miles on it and still drives like new, even still smells new. I have a few issues like the clunk with the drive shaft (LOTS OF GREASE FIXES THIS) and a few rattles I cant track down and even the egg smell from the cats when my sunroof is open when its cold but compared to my 95 Ford Bronco 4x4 this thing is quiet as can be. Its also very ballsy with plenty of power. Ive compared alot of SUVs to this truck and frankly I cant find a better vehicle than the one Ive had since 2001. People still ask me when I bought a new truck but Ive had it for 4 years and the body style has not changed. Anywho Id like to here from the people that have modified there exhaust and want to know if it really made that much if a difference.
Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket performance chip for the Sequoia? Some of these chips allow you to get higher HP by changing the timing and requireing higher octane gas. I'd like to sqeak a little more HP from the engine AND remove the stupid speed limiter.
I own a 2001 SR5. Does anyone know where I can get aftermarket fog lights. Also, is the truck already wired, i.e. do I just need the switch and lights? Thanks.
anyone could share your experience adding a Pioneer AVIC-N1 DVD navigation system to Sequoia? how much you paid? how is the installation process? any impact to the existing functions like steer wheel radio control buttons and rear seat audio?
While I don't have the unit, I have heard from friends that the pioneer flip out units have trouble opening after a while. Meaning, the flip out screen gets stuck at times and doesn't open all the way. As far as I know, you will lose the steering wheel functions. I would recommen any unit that has a seperate NAV unit. In the Pioneer, if you are on the go and listening to a CD, and all of a sudden you need to get gas or want to find a place, you will need to remove your CD and put in the DVD for the NAV. Just too complicated in my book.
I'm sad to know that the steering wheel radio control functions not working with AVIC-N1...
I'm also sad to know that the screen stuck at times, how can such an expensive unit behaves like that??? I am just wondering if that is kind of problem considerred the "normal" experience for the motorized screen that flip out everytime you need it, or it is just pioneer's fault?
I heard there is a AVIC-D1 coming to market soon, will that fix the screen problem as it might not need to flip out every time using it? any idea?
I have the 2001 ltd Sequoia, I'm getting the pioneer AVIC-N1 with a camera for the back, anybody know how much should I pay for the navigation system?, They are charging me $2850 for the whole system, I think its kind of expensive, I know by march the new one coming thats what I'm been told.
I've had the unit in our 2004 for several weeks. You have to buy the r/c steering wheel control separately. The unit is awesome in what it can do. The D1 - out in March - will have a two disc carriage so you'll be able to access the "extras" while at the same time plying videos for the kids in back (now you have to pre-program your route(s), take the NAV disc out and start the movie). PROBLEM >>> continuous high-pitch noise when power runs through it - no matter what you're using it for (even when "closed"). I have been in continuous contact with the seller and finally he availed himself to me and admitted hearing the noise as well. We went to his demo wall unit and yep the same noise (once you hear it you won't be able to not hear it). I called my friend in SF who just bought the system and he said he read about such problems and was even discouraged from buying it. He bought it because its features can't be touched by anything in the same price range. He said he figures he "just got lucky" that he didn't get a "bad" unit. Well, I got a bad one.....
jonnyo thanks for the posting, and sorry for the issues you faced with AVIC-N1, i have been looking around to see if it worth to buy this unit but looks like it might not work well with so many negative experiences from people I have heard so far.
When you get the nav system on the seq are you limited to a single CD changer or can you get the 6 cd version. The last dealer I talked to said you only get a one cd version. Also can you use the nav system and listen to cds at the same time?
Does anyone know if the Gold Package is available on the 2005 Limited? Also, I've had a dealer tell me he has noticed problems with the Gold fading over time. However, I spoke to an owner of a 2003 Seq. that has the gold and she said she's had no problems. Any thoughts? Thanks
I am a newbie to the site. I currently own a 2004 limited edition. I am considering installing 22inch rims with brake upgrades ofcourse. Is there any horror stories with going that big?
The reason you haven't heard any horror stories is because the people who used 22" rims are probably all dead. I just finished reading an article about how dangerous dubs were for SUV's, in particular. SUV's are designed to ride on the big fat tires that come with the vehicle. Bigger rims have a much smaller sidewall profile, therefore they are much more susceptible to damage from road hazards. The jarring of these wheels on the suspension can easily cause loss of control. Not to mention, the bigger rims/tires typically cause more drag, thus lousier gas mileage and performance.
Otherwise, I guess they'd be great for your Sequoia as long as you don't drive over 35MPH. Save your money, or spend it on a better stereo.
I had 20's on mine with 295/45/20 on them. I averaged about .2 less mpg's. And yes, because of the bigger wheels, the stopping distance was worse compared to OEM.
lol....Thanks for the input.I saw another guy with 22 inches and the truck looked pretty sweet, but I just had to get a second opinion before I spent $3500 on wheels. I may try to invest in HID lights and better sound system for that matter.
I agree with that. Alot of rollovers occur when the rim actually gouges the pavement. Since large wheels have lower sidewalls I would imaging it doesn't take alot to set that rim into the groung.
Sounds like me just with 20's instead of 22's. I also got HID's also. They are nice but I get too many flashes by people who think that my high beams are on. Out off all the little things I did on my truck, the only things that are worth it are the signal mirrors, HID's, and auto dimming rear view mirror. A waste of money on my truck to me was XM radio. It's neat to have, but I don't travel much and there are enough local stations to keep me happy. I paid for a year contract and will cancel when its up.
Has anyone had the molded dash kit installed by the dealer? Would you do it again? Also, anyone know how much it costs to get the auto dimming rear view mirror installed in an SR5?
The molded dash is just double-sided 3m tape. Its something you can definitely do yourself. The best time is in the summer or when the weather gets warmeer because the tape sticks better. If you have to do it in cold weather, use a blowdryer to heat up the plastic and tape. As for the dimming mirror, It can also be done yourself. You just have to find a power source somwhere in your kickpanel to tap into. I did both of these myself.
Do you have any recommendations for where to pick up the dash kit. Also, does putting in the mirror entail pulling down the headliner? After owning the car for only one day all I want to do is make improvements. It is going to the upholsterer tommorow for leather.
I got mine from Brandsport.com. I heard that is is the same as OEM. Its just that toyota gets it from SHerwood dash which is the same as where Brandsport gets it from. They have the marble/gray color or the wood look. I got the gray because I have gray leather. For the mirror, I didn't pull down the headliner. I pulled it back a little just to feed the wire through.
I tow a Chaparral Boat (6500# right at the advertised towing limit for the 2003 Sequoia) The truck did fine but seeemed to labor up the mountains in Southern California. The TRD supercharger seemed to do the trick. Transmission seems to down shift relatively often though. Does anyone know whether I can install a the TRD SUpercharger into a 2001 Sequioa? My 2001 is a 4wd and I have heard that the Supercharger works better with 4wd.

useful
