At least Hyundai makes it an optional feature, right in the configuration menu, so it is just one way of doing it, so obviously they know that it makes no sense for some owners!

Thanks for explaining the shark thing, I never knew that. About all I know about sharks is that I don't want to be in the same water with them. I have heard that a solid punch to a sharks nose may send them away. Even though I used to be quite athletic, I'm not so sure I could pull that off today. Maybe I should be sure to take Mrs. j with me when I go into the ocean. I don't think a shark would want to get in the way of her famous left hook.

I had to call my doctor at 4:30 PM yesterday because I was just about out of my Keflex antibiotic and the cist on the left side of the nape of my neck was getting more painful and was not reducing in size. He called the pharmacy and ordered Levofloxacin 250mg (7 tablets, one per day for 7 days) and Clindamycin 150mg (14 capsules, two per day for 7 days). He told me to come to his office at 9:00 AM Monday so he can refer me to a surgeon to have the thing drained and/or removed.

Just another notch in my Murphy's Law pistol grip - if something can screw up, in my case it definitely will! :'(

Are you familiar with O'Mally's law? He said Murphy was an optimist!

I was thinking about that the other day. I got out of my car, walked around to the rear of the car to talk to my neighbor. We talked for about 40 minutes. Wouldn't I feel like a moron if I am standing there talking to my neighbor and my trunk just happens to pop open......really bad if there was a body hidden in there. Not a good mafia car. :o

That's a beauty. Love the color. I've seen some 4 series around town and I like the looks better than the 3. More details please. Engine, 0-60 etc.

It is 430i, 250 hp 2-liter turbo. Great motor, I originally thought I'd get 440, but I got over it and kept the money. I honestly don't know exact 0-60 figures, but the motor is impressive. As with Mike's 740 turbo six, the modes are distinctive, from lazy and latent Eco, to every day Comfort, to lively Sport, to semi-insane Sport Plus. New iDrive is quite intuitive, I had to get letter shapes right at first for finger letter writing (no screen touch). I hope the American navigation is a little better than that on the USB stick I got for Europe (routing was sometimes quite dumb in the hind sight and the lady's voice directions late or out of sync (multiple times she'd say turn left, when the map was showing right turn, left turn was next).

Like I said, "I shoulda kept my '09 Genny with it's Cabernet Red Pearl paint job. Too late now, though.

Maybe I can put a racing stipe on the bland charcoal grey pearl '15 Genny. That car definitely needs something to spruce it up. :'(

Do they still have payment books? I planned to buy my '15 Genny outright until I saw that Hyundai was offering 0.9% for 5 years. So I changed my mind and went for the low interest method. They did not send us a payment book, rather they send us a monthly bill instead. The only problem with that is Mrs. j, who pays the bills, gets a monthly reminder that I bought a car that she didn't think I needed.

I'm still not sure I did the right thing. One and done would have probably been better. :'(

Was passed by a soft blue car and thought the taillights looked like a Malibu. When I caught up to it, I saw the Genesis (or Bentley) emblem in the middle of the trunk. Then I saw the 80 on the trunk and remembered Genesis was not advertising their Hyundai heritage. Very nice blue color. I actually took a second look because of the attractive blue and realized it wasn't a Malibu. Patagonia blue. Had dealer plates on it--Sweeney Cincinnati.

I've never owned a red car. I did buy a 'Deep Impact Blue' Fusion.
Unfortunately, it seemed to attached a lot of negative attention.

    @dino001,
The car looks great. Can't wait for your stories about touring Europe in it.

My brother just bought a 430i coupe in black with saddle interior.  I really like the 4 series - very distinctive and responsive with that 4 cylinder turbo.

IMO, that Patagonia Blue is not any nicer than the Empire State Gray (charcoal gray) that I have. I boxed myself into a corner when it came time to chose the color for the '15 Genny. I didn't want red again because the '09 was redish. Plus the Pamplona Red that was offered in '15 was not a nice red as far as I was concerned so that definitely was not a choice. I didn't want white or black. I thought I would like the Parisian Gray but talked myself out of that because I thought it was too close to the Subie's silver, but it really wasn't. The other colors were out for sure (Manhattan Brown, some crazy Ibeza Blue) along with a few other non-descript colors.

I guess you can say I just wanted something new. Now I'm not so sure I should have gotten rid of the '09 because it gave me no trouble at all. Only had 72K miles, which were mostly all highway miles because I was working back then and took the PA pike for 40 miles round trip and to save mileing it up when I got home and we went somewhere we took the Subie.

Mrs. j better never see this post. :'(

It's actually pretty quick; 0-60 in the mid fives I think. I really, REALLY like the Gran Sports. We have a Tanzanite Blue 440i xDrive M Sport in the showroom. Cognac leather with M Performance Power and Sound. If it was RWD I'd be incredibly tempted.

Saw an ad for the new Gennie80. The car looks great, has lots of features including 5 years 60k miles warranty and even service. Lots of horsepower, nice interior, lots of room, even includes AWD, priced at $62K Cdn, probably about mid $50k USD. I like the interior, but even the instrument panel looks like it was copied from my 2012 535.

I don't think the Genesis sedan is a bad car, I just think that the driving dynamics tend to mirror that of Lexus or Lincoln. There's nothing wrong with that; like I tell clients that ask me about other brands, "There are no bad cars in that market segment; each manufacturer prioritizes certain aspects of the driving experience. You'll find that BMW builds cars with engines that combine outstanding acceleration with excellent fuel economy. Likewise, high performance handling is emphasized, but not at the expense of an uncomfortable ride. If those characteristics are important to you, a BMW would be an excellent choice. If not, there are other very good cars in the segment that may well suit you better."

I'll frankly admit that no Genesis has ever been on my shopping list, but I could well be swayed by the new Kia Stinger- just as long as it's RWD and fitted with the 365-hp twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6.

Other than the sport pedals and the shifter knob, it looks like my '15.

I see that Genesis now offers, for 2018, a G80 Sport so those pedals must be the G80 Sport.

A couple of it's published specs:

3.3L GDI Twin Turbo V6 with 365 HP and 376 Torque.

RR and JM, No doubt, the Genesis 80 is a lot of car for the money (in more ways than one, because it weighs more than the competition by quite a bit). It has all the goodies and is well made, and is a tremendous value. I don't think a real BMW fan is going to be swayed by those features though.....it won't drive like a BMW. That is OK if maximum handling and performance are not that important to you.

RR, you are wise to not put down anyone's tastes in cars, some people just want to get from A to B as easily as possible. I find driving to where I am going is sometimes more fun than getting there.

Never had a red car, red doesn't suit most MBs, as it is too sporty (it works for a few roadsters, I suppose), and can be a rare color. It works for some BMWs, and looks good on that 4er GC.

Back in the 90s, my dad had a red and white on red and white 60 Ford Country Sedan. The Ford tomato red of that era was very red. It was similar to this (wish I had pics of the car, it was very cool):

I give you credit....you know what is important to you and that is what you got. Better than buying something else just to impress people. If you're happy, that is all that matters.

Speaking of those big Hyundais, I saw an Equus in a parking lot this weekend. Might be the only one in town, and I'd forgotten they even existed. I wonder how folks who actually forked out big bucks and bought one of those feel about their brand disappearing.

Isn't the Genesis90 really an Equus? It makes you think, so you save $1000s when you buy it, but you lose $1000s in depreciation when you trade it in. Might as well have got the real thing.

Just out of curiosity how's does the new Genny compare to the old in terms of ride and handling?

Great question....I would like to know that too.
Since JM is sorry he traded in the first one it sounds like not much change.....though JM doesn't seem to care about handling, though he does care about ride.

I notice Hyundai designers like trapezoids and parallelograms.

Those windows look like trapezoids and parallelograms.

My Dad had a 1960 Meteor, which was the Canadian version of that Ford model.

I remember that you were not pleased with the ride of your '09 Genny but I didn't have a problem with it. So I don't know how much faith you'll have in my opinion with my '15.

I'd say the '15 is better. Firmer but somehow it seems to have a smoother ride than my '09. Takes curves better too. Now, don't think that means it will perform like the German makes because it won't. It has only 3 driving modes compared to more with the German cars. As you know the '09 had only one mode (Normal). The three modes for the '15 are Normal, Eco, and Sport. Son # 1 says, he'd never drive it in any mode other than Sport. He drove it back from Fairfax VA (over 300 miles) when I got it and he played with the modes many times. Therefore, he has a valid opinion for himself but he judges a car much differently than I do. Normal mode doesn't bother me but when I want to play I go to Sport, just because it's there. I almost have to force myself to go into play mode.

It doesn't excite me to take a 40 MPH posted curve at 65 MPH. 52 MPH is good enough for me. I know, not too much in the way of expectations, but like I have said before, I've never been one to get giddy about pedal mashing.

I don't know if this helps but if you are looking for a Buickish type of ride you probably won't like the new design either.

@dino001 - your new 430 Grand Coupe is exquisite.  Glad you had a great ED trip!  I can't wait to hear all about it!  The 4 series Grand Coupe is IMHO the best looking car in BMW's lineup.  The right one would tempt me to stray from my Infiniti.

MSRP is $69,625; it is a 2018. Tanzanite Blue is an Individual color, meaning it adds $1950 to the cost. I think the only option it lacks is M Sport brakes...

    Thanks @jmonroe

Your assessment of the difference is exactly what I've read several ttimes.   My biggest issue with my 09 (early build) V6 wasn't the firmness but it was "jittery".  Tough to explain.  The V8 had a slightly different suspension so even the early builds were OK.  The last of the 09s Hyundai changed a few things and the cars rode better.

My 09 left me stranded twice and also stopped dead in the middle of a busy highway, so it had to go.

If the majority of the car budget didn't have to go to an SUV I'd consider another one.  At the time and even now, hard to beat the value and interior quality for the price.

$70k is A LOT of money for a non ///M (3 series or 4 series). Speaking of, are there any plans in the pipeline for an ///M4 Grand Coupe?

Interesting article today in Automotive News about Hyundai USA. Last year, 26% of their total sales were fleet sales, over 200,000 units. I remember that prior to the GM bankruptcy the experts on auto forums used to decry how GM sold too many cars to fleets and claimed it did all sorts of bad things to their reputation and resale value. It actually makes sense as an argument against over-reliance on fleet sales, so this will likely have negative repercussions for Hyundai over time.

Also the article talks about how Hyundai pushes vehicles onto dealers as service loaners and engages in some shenanigans to meet corporate sales quotas each month. Sounds like not a fun place to work.
