Mike....I think a lot of these companies have stepped up their game. Saw driver's E, and liked it a lot, too. I know your's was nice, and I believe they did right by you in getting you the correct car with correct options. I know you'll like it once you get it.

Frankly, while not my cup of tea, I liked the Lincolns I test drove a couple of weeks ago. If it had a little more "oomph" and the dealership hadn't been so lackdaisical, I would have considered their vehicles more seriously.

Point being, this series of cars from these manufacturers are being very hotly contested. Whether it's the E, the 5 Series, the CTS, or any of the others, your brand better be on top of their game. If not, the dealership right down the street will bend over backwards to put you in the seat of their lux vehicle.

As I get a bit more seat time in mine, I'm really impressed with the magnetic ride control. It offers great handling while making it impossible to upset the chassis or making me uncomfortable. It rotates very well around turns without protest. You can't upset it, even speeding around a turn with bad pavement. It keeps the tires on the road. Impressive.

I'm using voice commands more now than in any other voice command system in any of the other cars I've owned. I think that speaks (pun intended) to the accuracy of the system.

Still unsure about all the little safety nannies. I was driving today and granted, I was probably tail gating more than I should have been, but red lights show up as a reflection on my windshield and the brakes were applied. Eeery. I think I'm shutting that feature off. I do like the proximity sensors though. Makes pulling into parking spaces really easy.

Is the distance (sensitivity) adjustable on yours for the emergency stopping? On my '14 Malibu it's adjustable, but it just does the alarm and "prepares" the brakes for emergency stopping--I don't think it actually applies the brakes.

GG, I have never heard of a dealer trying as hard as this one. We'll come to your house if you have a problem....car washes 6 days a week, just call and we'll answer any questions, etc. The last two bmw dealers really lost my trust....would I buy from them again? I would, but I would be cautious. These guys played no games and came up with a good price, if I wanted another Mercedes why wouldn't I go back to them first.

I loved my 535, so it takes awhile to get used to a new car, even if it is really better. The more I drive it the more I appreciate it. It is so solid, quiet, responsive, vision is 10 out of 10, controls are easy to use, music sounds phenomenal.

    .

I have a lot to learn. Voice commands for telephone, GPS, audi etc. You can do any manoeuvre 3 different ways...dash, voice, steering wheel.

Same, lots of warnings if you are close to something, even though I know I am going to miss it. Makes you hesitate in case the car knows you are going to hit something you missed.

That's part of the joy of getting a new car...all the surprises!

@abacomike, I've been putting Justin in my prayers every Sunday.

@NYC, Sorry, but can't help you with those car payments. After paying off my note, the next thing I did was put a couple hundred more per check in my 401K. Going to put some money in the Explorer to hopefully get it through the winter. Will start looking an February. A Subi is on my list, a Crosstrek. Also, have my eyes on a couple of F-150's. Fair chance the one's I'm interested in will still be on the lot in a few months.

Beautiful color on that car. Your purchase should get GG motivated to get his own. Maybe you can get together and race.

Thanks OF. I don't think GG needed any motivation from me given the incredible deal he got on his CTS. Now we just need to get your Eclipse sold so you can join in the fun. :)

Looks like I haven't been keeping up. By the time I congratulated you on your purchase GG had already bought his own.

On the Eclipse I was considering getting a buy bid from the dealer where I bought it. Unknown to me a friend at work who moonlights as a detailer for this store mentioned my car to the owner.

Bottom line $9,000 sight unseen. Tempting.

Also, this may just be me getting jealous of all you rich guys and your sweet cars but today on my many bus runs I noticed a bunch of late model Hondas and Audis busted down on the side of the road.

The Audi caused such a traffic jam that I got an extra hour of overtime. :@

Congratulations to GG and Drive100 on their new cars. I've been off and not posting for couple days while in hospital with wife who had her leg cut off and new knee inserted. Amazing what they can do. One night in hospital and she's home by 4 pm after surgery at 8 previous day. Someday this may be an outpatient procedure!

However, I'm exhausted from all the sitting and then being in the room and sleeping on a convertible sofa meant for overnight bedding for significant others.

I'm really glad to see the Cadillacs being considered by people and that they are finding them to be capable vehicles for their needs. Just pleases me to no end to see the stereotypes broken.

I'm so sorry to hear of your wife's trouble. Hope things go well in recovery.

Edit: I read farther and shame on you for scarring us.

Ab....you could probably try giving it a radio station....FM 96.1 or AM 900. Press the voice button and say "directions" (you might have to look up exact phrase or go to Navigation and check the list) See if the monitor has a state/province already in. If it has the right state give it the number 50 becomes 5----0 Main St West, Smalltown....don't do province if already in.

Audi was the only European car company to be in the top 10 on the latest CR reliability test. Honda usually does well....must be a problem just in your area. Or it could mean those cars have higher sales in your area. At least you didn't see any Mustangs.

I've been looking for as much information I can get before my 5 years is up, and personal accounts are very important to me.

Also, there are exercises to strengthen the muscles in advance of the surgery. They are in a booklet the hospital gives out with the prep class for hip and knee replacements. Wife recommends those greatly. She did them for months before both surgeries.

Thanks to everyone for their best wishes for my wife's successful recovery.

I am unnerved by the picture of cutting away the knee from the femur and tibia, leaving
a leg that's useless and then putting in the metal replacement which works perfectly
from the recovery room on. Perfect except for the muscle's reactions that may tighten
up later as the muscles react to the irritation. If only they could replace
a few other parts that wear out.

Farmer, sounds like a good situation. If it is really as clean as it looks in the ad, they might come up a bit in person. So if a dealer will trade for $9,500, you are in good shape.

Might want to see what a Ford dealer would do, though probably too early for a 2015 Stang. Unless you want to save a bundle and get a 14!

Probably not doing better private than mid 9's anyway. At least it would be gone, no need to deal with the flakes, and cash in pocket.

This morning I helped an 89-year old WWII veteran vote his absentee ballot. He has macular degeneration and doesn't hear well. He is often at the quick market (UDF) where I pick up morning coffee. He's about the age my brother would have been who died in WWII.

I have been reading "Killing Patton" while waiting at the hospital. I was able to figure out exactly where my brother was killed on a hill that was part of the Battle of the Bulge. The story of poor planning by the generals for his new green group of soldiers matches what one of few survivors from his group told my parents in the early 50s when he went to as many homes of his dead buddies that he could find.

    It's a very interesting book.

That's what they call the "fog of war". Back then they had little real time info on what was going on at the battlefield. One smart phone probable has more communication capability than the entire signal corp back then.

The Battle of The Bulge is where my Dad earned his Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart.  He was a cryptographer behind the lines.  His position was overrun by the Germans and they became pinned down by several machine gun nests.  His men were being picked off one by one.

He picked up his Thompson machine gun and half a dozen grenades and singlehandedly took out the two machine gun nests and returned to his unit and pulled wounded survivors from the tents and carried two of them to safety and medics while being wounded by shrapnel in his arm and hand.

He also received a battlefield commission to 1st Lt.  It was because of men like him that they survived the German onslaught thanks to Patton's ability to move his Army to stave off the German offensive.

It's one of the few memories Dad retains because it was so traumatic to him.

He was responsible for encoding and decoding top secret communications between the various commands during the Battle of The Bulge.

Later on, he was put in charge of de-natzification under Patton's command immediately following the end of the war.  He was also responsible for building officers clubs in France, Germany and Italy.

He was a busy soldier.  He spent time in Belgium with the underground, France, England, Germany and Italy.  I am very proud of his bravery and his service to the United States.

I usually don't use the paddle shifters I had in other cars. These are nice to the touch, though (magnesium?), They'll snap off some shifts quickly, too. I really like this turbo motor. It has some good grunt.

You should be able to downshift while going down a steep slope without having it in "sport" mode (or whatever Cadillac calls it). Just pull the down paddle and see what happens. If it does work - after you resume the gas pedal it should go back to normal.

    Voice Commands I use.....

Sounds similar to MyFord Touch which I have in the Explorer.

    Push Button
    "Bong"
    Me: "Destination Address"
"In Massachusetts?" or whatever state you are in
Me: "One Two Three Main Street Boston"
    "Press Set Destination"
    and away we go.

Ford has a couple of neat ones. When the Bong sounds you can say "I'm Hungry" and it will come up with restaurant types nearby. See if CUE does that.

Wow. That is a great record. Ask him if he recalls Elsenborn Ridge, the large hill that was treeless and a high ground good position for shooting down at attacking troops for a long distance. However, there was a heavily treed area 100 yards down the slope which was actually occupied by German troops with machine guns and mortars, which they then used to attack the green troops the generals had placed there who had no battle experience.

Imid, at this point in his life, I thank God he remembers my name, let alone a hill in northern France or southern Belgium.  The only reason I was able to retell the story of how he was cited for his bravery, etc., is due to the citations that he received with each of his medals.  Thank goodness for those typed citations.

One thing he does remember was his Belgian girlfriend he met during the war and the long relationship he had with her.  She was a member of the Belgian underground.  He still has vivid memories of her.  She must have been really something else if he still remembers that affair.  Viva lamour!

    Great story! Wow.

My dad worked for Packard when he was drafted (with two infants at home!). He was sent to the China-Burma war. Talk about a stinking (and forgotten) war. He kinda went nuts in the jungle (malaria, etc) so the Army figured he needed a rest and sent him over the Himalayas (flying the Hump they called it)---LOL!. He spent the rest of the war in China teaching them how decode messages. He came home and returned to Packard until it went belly up in 1956. He lived to a ripe old age. Man, there was nothing he didn't know about automobiles!

The saddest thing for my parents, from my assessment, was that my brother
did not have to go into the service. He was exempt because he was farming.
But he went out of a sense of patriotism, as rare concept for US folks these days.

Well, I decided to take my CLS 550 back from the dealer and make a decision about doing anything at a later date.

Mercedes has really made no effort to expedite the building of my new car and I am not going to wait until Christmas for my new car.  So I decided to end my relationship with Mercedes Benz.

After reviewing this fiasco, Mercedes did absolutely nothing for me to make me happy.  So I am going to look around for a BMW 5 series or an Audi, possibly even a CADILLAC.  But I am DONE with Mercedes!!!

Sorry they botched your order, with the amount of money you're spending and your loyalty they should have stepped up. If it were me I'd look at Audi, probably the best competitor for MB right now.

Just don't go to Cadillac out of spite, you won't be happy and you'll overpay for what you get.

Thanks, houdini.  I just shsred your comment with him and tears came to his eyes.  Whenever I try to speak with him about the experiences he had saving his men, he says he doesn't want to talk about it.  He shares his experiences about building officers clubs with the [non-permissible content removed] sympathizers as his laborers, and his Belgian girlfriend, but not the taking out of the machine gun nests.  Once he told me that half his platoon had been cut down by motars and machine guns, but it's too much for him to talk about - he lost some very close buddies.

I just got a call from Mercedes and according to the zone manager, they are promising delivery of my new car now by November 25th, just prior to my insurance expiring.  It it being delivered directly to the dealership, not the port.

How are they managing that?  I wonder.

What a wonderful story about your dad! The Finest Generation! Hoping for the best for your son along with a prayer. It's out of your hands and perhaps God will provide a much needed cure.
    Thanks so much Isell!

Thanks for the voice command directions. I have the non-nav version of CUE, so anything related to maps or directions is out. I did get it to change radio stations by voice. Apparently the climate control does not respond to voice. I will try the music artist voice commands later. I never got into the podcast thing - I waste enough time online as it is - so none of those are saved on my phone (never knew you could do that). It's unfortunate that the dashboard screen can't reflect what's on the iPhone screen. That way you could use Google or Apple maps navigation on the phone but see it on the dash. Too simple I guess.

I sat in the front passenger seat and set at at the most forward position that is still comfortable for me. Even at that it is a bit awkward to get out of the front. Then with that set, I got in the back seat on the passenger side. I fit, but barely. That rear compartment is really tight. A smaller person might find it OK I suppose. But on the drivers side, behind my seat, forget it unless you're a little kid.

Ordered a trunk cargo net. GM makes them optional now. No bag hooks in the trunk either, and no place I can see to fit them. As a reminder of days gone by, found a trunk liner fastener, one of those black plastic buttons with the splined/serrated shaft coming out of it, laying loose at the front of the trunk. Couldn't see any missing, so it must have been left over from whomever installed the trunk lining on the assembly line. That must be a miserable job to have on the line since you have to virtually get into the trunk to reach the bulkhead.

I got another call from them confirming that my new E400 will be at the dealership before my insurance expires on November 26th.  How they are going to manage that is beyond my comprehension, unless they are air-shipping it over.

If they produce the car by Monday, and then immediately ship it out on a ship, it could be here in time.  There is no other way I can fathom how they could manage getting it here so quickly.  It normally takes 4 weeks from date of manufacture to date of arrival at port if expedited.  I wonder what they are doing to get it here so fast?

I nearly had a heart attack reading your post! If you test and consider a Cadillac, I will consider my mission to have people at least evaluate GM's vehicles again successful.

Just got a voice mail from a local Honda dealer telling me of a special they have for previous customers. The problem is neither I nor my wife have ever owned a Honda or bought a car from this dealership.

Prior customers, people that once drove by. Same thing pretty much.

Mike, my guess on your car is they snagged a production spot right now, and probably had a boat just about ready to go, so they can have it on the water by early next week. Then will grab it right off the boat and have it sent to the dealer directly, saving more days sitting around at the port and waiting for transport. From looking on the web, actually travel time should be 10-12 days.

so if boat leaves say 11/5, arrives at port 11/17, they have a week to get it unloaded and sent to the dealer. I think you said they come into port in Jacksonville, so could easily have down to you in a day.

doable assuming they are building it as we type, and that they have a ship going out next week to put it on.

speaking of prior customer bonuses, I always got a kick out of Volvo. Sometimes they offer a $500 loyal customer rebate, at the same time they offer a $500 conquest rebate. so basically if you own a car of any kind, you get $500.

@stickguy, Many time Ford has conquest cash, but not loyalty cash. I find that kind of aggravating.

Nope!  Just got home from having dinner out and received my 4th call today from Mercedes Corporate.  They WIILL NOT GUARANTY THAT MY CAR WILL BE HERE ANY SOONER THAN CHRISTMAS!  Talk about mixed messages.  Every time I speak with Mercedes I get a different promise or scenario.

At this point, they do not know how to solve the problem of my insurance being cancelled at the end of the 30 day grace period.  They are obviously not going to solve that problem for me.

So, back to square 1.  I can't imagine how Mercedes expects a customer to be loyal to them after the way I have been treated!

I ho go back to my original statement, "...what has Mercedes done to satisfy my issues with them?"  They accepted an order for a replacement car that won't arrive at my dealership until Christmas - or 7 weeks from now.  Once my insurance is terminated, I cannot drive a car.

They are totally unapathetic to my situation.  THEY JUST DON'T CARE!

What is left for me to do?
