Not sure if I'd get another orange car. The pic looks a bit redder than it really was, at least on my monitor.

@abacomike, The red Richard's truck has is a great color for that vehicle.

Back in 1969 Dad was all set to buy a brand new Competition Orange Mercury Cyclone- to replace the one owner 1965 Mustang V8 notchback that my mother had just totaled(that is another classic story). My mother said "It looks like a taxi cab." and killed the deal. One of the several billion reasons my relationship with my mother was "strained"- to put it mildly.

Perhaps that is another reason why I like that SRT8 so much...

RB....like both of those cars in orange. Thete's a local guy who parades a black Cyclone around here....same as the one in your picture. Very cool car in great shape.

My Father had a Torino GT when I wad a young'un..same general body as that Cyclone., only it was dark green.

Volkswagen and others have produced orange colours that I dearly love, but that was back when car paint was car paint (Ditzler, anyone?) and latex was put only on cheap houses. That was then. . .
I enjoy orange that is very nearly red, but not quite. The few times a car manufacturer actually produces such a thing, the 6 cars that are delivered in North America painted this way are rarely configured the way I want.

    Oh well. . .

I feel the same way about red on a car.  There are only a few cars I've seen in red that I would go for - the Chevy Corvette red and the Mercedes C Class red.  Most other reds are too dark, too light, or too much toward the maroon shades.  The Cadillac red is very sharp as well.

But on an E Class or CLS Class car, I don't think there is a red out there I would want. Some cars beg to be red like the Cadillac ATS and CTS, a Stingray Corvette, a Mustang GT Convertible.  But a BMW in red gives me the same negative vibes I get with a red E or CLS or S.

In conclusion, some cars are born to be bright red while most are not.

There are probably rules of color. Not sure what they are, and there could be exceptions, but generally smaller sportier cars look good in red, orange, lime green, yellow, etc. These colors usually look good on convertibles. They can look good on sporty type 4 door cars.

More dignified and larger sedans generally do not look good in bright red. Trucks are OK in red, orange, yellow etc for some reason. Red, Orange, Yellow generally look good on smaller cars where there isn't a lot of these colors showing.

These rules will have lots of exceptions. Red is generally a fun color, so it won't work on an S Class or a 4 door Bentley, though it is probably fine on a 2 door model. I have seen it on a C Class and though it is a bit odd it can look sporty and daring, but the C is fairly small.

Silver, black, gray, bronze, white and dark blue are safe to use on larger cars but can be used on smaller cars.

My brother mentioned to me that the bi-turbo 3.0 L V6 (329 hp 353 lb ft torque) is available now in not only the C Class and E Class Mercedes, but is now available in the CLS 400 and the SL 400.  It would appear that the 3.5 L V6 may be on its way out and will be replaced by the 3.0 L engine which has better EPA mileage ratings.

I was trying to envision how the new CLS 400 would handle and respond with that smaller V6, and am pretty sure it will be very unexciting.  I've driven the E 400 (2  days when I first took delivery in October) and found it to be responsive, but it was not as exciting as the 4,7 L bi-turbo in the CLS 550.  But I was getting 35 mpg at 65 mph which is outstanding.

In the lighter SL 400, it would be a better fit, but I don't think I would want a CLS 400 after driving the CLS 550 for the last 12 months.

Mike, I was reading somewhere there is a plan to bump up the horsepower in that 3.0L motor even more and bumping the designation to 450. C450, E450, etc... Supposed to happen for 2016 models. I will try to find a link

Edit, found a link though it only refers to the C450

Just for giggles I clicked on that ATS with the hideous wheels and used the comment section to inform them that that car was the ugliest Cadillac I had seen lately- hands down.

Who wants to bet that I'll get an email thanking me for my interest in the car and inviting me down for a test drive?

Very well could be.  There is a major redesign due for the E Class in 2016 and I would suspect more horsepower out of that engine - if they bored it out to a 3.2 or 3.3 Liter V6.

I had debated waiting for the 2016 redesign instead of getting the 2015, but I saw some hidden camera views of the 2016 and did not like the changes - a bit longer wheelbase but a lower stance and more patterned after the CLS/CLA from the side.

If I like the 2016, I should be able to get out of the 2015 without too much of a loss in a year.  I am paying $60,000 ($61,000 OTD) for a 2015 that MSRP's for $72,025 (invoice is about $66,250).  That's $6250 under invoice so I won't get hurt too much if I end up liking the 2016 better.

If I waited to trade the CLS 550 for another year, I would lose about $8000-$10,000 more in ACV.  I make out better getting the E400 and trading that in next year.  It is estimated it would bring $55,000 a year from now - so I lose less by trading now.

It seems that the C 450 will be an AMG version of the 3.0 L bi-turbo developing 360 hp.  It does not look like it will be a standard engine.  At least that is what the article said.  Thanks for the info!

Not exactly AMG, more like AMG "style", similar M-Sport line on BMW's, maybe a bit more (BMW M-Sport Line is mostly appearance plus sports suspension and seats and is available for even their weakest engines). True AMG cars get two digit designations (like C63) rather than three digit. Call it AMG "Light"...

Looks the the C450 will be a "sport" model, interesting though is the C400 will discontinued at the same time

The C63 AMG will be Twin turbo 4.0L V8 making around 500 HP, at least per the MBUSA web page. http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/future/model/model-All_New_Mercedes_AMG_C63

I think the C450 would be enough, but would be sorely tempted if the price difference was $10k

How many people do you know who are using the old twisted pair copper lines for telephone service? I'm using the copper pair at my house for uVerse internet, strictly as a backup to my high speed Comcast internet. But I don't know many people who have anything hooked up to the copper twisted pair.

I'm going to say that many people still think they have a traditional landline because they still have a home phone. But if they switched over their cable company for phone service, they don't know it's not twisted pair.

Twisted pair is still reliable but there is very little that can be done over it. Hence fiber has replaced it. Copper is always on even in power failures and so many redundancies are built into it. My first job out of college was for a manufacturer of pressure and flow transducers for the telecom industry. Back then it was the Baby Bells, GTE, SNET, AT&T, et al. I was amazed at what had to be done to ensure your phone worked. In most towns, there is at least one small building with the name of the phone company and only a couple of cars in the parking lot. That building was the central office and in it were giant air driers and compressors sending clean, dehumdified air down the cables to keep moisture out and the copper clean. The transducers were placed every so many feet along the cable to measure the pressure and flow of the air. When either dropped, an alarm went off in the panel and they could determine within a couple of hundred feet where there was a breach in the cable. It was nothing more than two low voltage copper wires connected between the transducer and the alarm light.

Even in the late 80's, this company was shipping product overseas to less developed countries because installing a copper system was cheaper than the new fiber systems.

I agree on some of your points. BUT I have uVerse over twisted pair, Internet, Phone and TV. It supports at least 3 HD streams plus decent Internet speed. I can also stream from Amazon and Netflix, all over twisted pair. Drawbacks are distance from the hub or whatever they call it. Also, there is a short life UPS which I have connected to another UPS, probably 30 minutes life after main power goes off. I would prefer to have that over fiber, but I understand they are not doing retroactive installations where they can get the old twisted pair to work. We are old fogies that are not ready to give up our landlines. I may investigate Magic Jack and some of those options to cut costs in the future. Since my phone service is uVerse using the household access point box, would not really matter if I used another 'Internet' phone service as long as I can keep the number I've had since about 1977.

We have a landline and I guess it is a lot for a phone, and internet combined service. But we can call anywhere in North America for no extra charge. Our AT&T pay as you go phone costs 10 cents a minute to anywhere in North America.

Remember when long distance costs $1.50 a minute to call 50 miles? And $1.50 then is like $20 today. And we had to call and ask if we were there so we could make a free call to let others know we made it.

Phone rates don't bother me too much because we seem to get so much for what we pay.

I bought an OOma (cable phone) when I dumped cable TV earlier this year. It has been working flawlessly and only costs $3.4x per month for the taxes. My cable internet bill went up considerably when I dumped the other services, but we still come out WAY ahead. It is $59.95 for internet and the aforementioned $3.4x for the phone. So about $63.40 vs the $199.9x I used to pay not long ago for all 3 services from the cable company.

I don't want to dump our home phone because I am kind of old school in that regard. I remember when you HAD to have a home phone for things like loan applications and job applications. I just can't let that go. Besides, for the money I'm not paying, it is well worth having a number for all the "junk mail" type of calls to go.

Ordinarily I just skip over the field for a home phone number. Occasionally I come across a form online where home phone is a required field. When that happens, I just repeat my cell phone number. Of if I really don’t want the buzzards to have my number, I just make up a number. But this outfit required a home phone number, and it had to be listed in the National White Pages. Very, very strange in this day and age.

Needless to say, I did not do business with them.

And on the subject of cable, I was paying about $84 per month for high speed internet from Comcast. I ran across a special for high speed internet and basic Cable TV for $50 per month, and jumped on it. Total bottom line, including taxes and fees, is about $25 less per month by letting them include the basic TV, which I ignore.

We get a lot of solicitation calls. Mostly like this "there are currently no problems with your credit card"/ Always a recording. I never listen to what they're selling, just hang up. One day it called and I pressed 1 to see why they were bothering me.
They wanted me to give them my CC number. I said 1. Voice on other end said please continue. I said that's it. I was the first person to get a credit card ever and it's number 1.He started laughing so hard he couldn't finish his message. I laughed too and we mutually hung up.

My understanding is that Uverse is fiber to the node, home or into their box inside the house. I presume that you have twisted pair for the last part of the feed.

Techically, CAT5 is twisted pair so we all get "internet" to our wired devices over twisted pair.

I will keep my Internet and probably uVerse cable, not ready to do without some sports. I look at dropping some of the movie channels, but the 450 package from uVerse includes HD and some other things that you have to pay for in the lower packages. So, not much savings in dropping some of that. I do have Amazon Prime and Netflix plus a number of other streaming options.

How is the tax billed monthly? They don't really go into details there, but do mention that fact is an way that would be easy to miss.

Who wants to bet that I'll get an email thanking me for my interest in the car and inviting me down for a test drive?

I'm unfortunately familiar with the dealership. You're probably right. It's not a dealership I'd ever do business with, for a variety of reasons.

A local car dealer is running a Black Friday special. The first 250 vehicle sales will get a free TV. I'm just wondering how many times they've EVER gotten 250 sales in a single day! B)

LOL...just 250 free TVs. We have a Ford dealer who does one of those ads for a local TV station that tells everyone how great advertising is on the TV station. He says when they did their special sale with TV ads they sold 187 cars on a weekend. They'd go through a lot of paperwork to sell 250 cars in one day. Is a TV set that much of an incentive...most people have them and you can get 40 inchers for under $300, less than the DOC fee will be.

My understanding is that Uverse is fiber to the node, home or into their box inside the house. I presume that you have twisted pair for the last part of the feed.

Techically, CAT5 is twisted pair so we all get "internet" to our wired devices over twisted pair.

Yes. The last 1200 feet (I am first in line from the node) is twisted pair put in the ground about 1991 when we built the house. I think that predated Cat5 and most of our Ethernet was 10 M.

I think new neighborhoods get fiber most of the way in, but older ones try and use existing twisted pair already installed. I think they probably installed fiber to the node. I know our original twisted pair was patched back to the the CO. They had to do some tracing back and IIRC replace a line card in the CO back in the 90s when I had a second line for dial-up.

I'm in an old neighborhood - built in the 1960's. About 15 years, a second cable company came into town and ran fiber. It was still copper to the house but not twisted pair. Since then Verizon has come into town and Comcast (the original provider) have laid fiber. All have fiber into the house that connects with their box.

Saying that, even competition isn't a panacea. Unless one is willing to change providers every 3 years to get introductory pricing, the cost is pretty much the same.

As for CAT5, any network cable that you plug between your computer and the router is twisted pair.

Yes. I had Time Warner turned into Comcast for years. Don't like their interface, menu, etc. Had issues since my run from the street was about 600', then had issues with moisture getting into the coax (they used RG11 because of the distance). Internet was good but hated them for TV.

You are correct. Only introductory pricing is competitive. After 2 years they are all about the same, expensive. Step-son has or had Direct. I have used it a couple of times in vacation rentals. Never could figure out where the channels were or how to get there. BUT one of these days I might have to switch just to get a competitive rate.

Honestly, driver, I can think of many, many words to describe the chills I get when someone says, "twisted pair" when referring to cables and land lines, however intriguing would not be one of them!

What about confused, frustrated, mesmerized, overwhelmed, taken aback, out of my element, foreign, alienated, etc.

Twisted pair is simply 2 copper wires twisted together. All the phone wires in your house are twisted pair, typically two or more pair in the cable. Here is a picture of four pair cable:

Whenever the telephone repair guy would come out, usually all they did was switch one pair of wires for another at the house and the pole and abandon the bad pair. Or if you had 2 phone lines and a fax machine, 3 pair were used and one was left as a spare.

Local dealer has a new ad. 2014 Jetta S stick for 10K. You have to register to buy it like a lottery. If they pull your name from the barrel, you are offered the car at that price. Don't want it ? No problem, contest is over and they keep the car. Wonder how many leads they will generate with this scheme.
