question for the rocky mountain contingent. I am trying to decide on a place for a little getaway with the wife. Probably 5 days (something like weds-monday). Likely in mid-june.
considering Colorado as an option. I guess fly into Denver.
so, if I did that, where would you recommend staying and what to do while there? And no, we don't smoke weed so don't suggest that.
I don't mind doing some driving, but would rather not spend most of the time in the car.
If you want to stay more or less in one place and only do some quick day trips one or two hours out, it's hard to beat Aspen for beauty, activities, culture, hiking, food and a charming downtown area. The only downside is that it's expensive. If it's too pricey to stay right in Aspen, there are more affordable towns nearby, such as Basalt, Carbondale or Glenwood Springs. You could even take the train from Denver to Glenwood and then shuttle into Aspen.
There are lots of pretty mountain towns in Colorado but not much to do in them. Aspen could keep you busy for weeks.
Wow XB 55 sorry to hear that unfortunate incident that you when your wife had with your airstream I hope it’s no serious damage and you’re still able to enjoy some of your vacation
Yes correct old farmer so it’s a favorite of the rental fleet yes pretty comfortable I think for what it is we took it on the Hartley last night had to pick up my younger brother from the airport ones good my sister had one also couple of years ago pretty refreshed blinds the seam this one just has some more options not the basic us one looks better to pre-after the refresh
Be sure to see the Grand Ole Opry, not my favorite kind of music but a great show by very talented performers and the nicest most appreciative audience around.
Stay at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center if possible.
After that not sure........maybe get a tour of the VW Passat plant in Chatanooga.
I did Nashville for a business trip/show this year. I stayed at the Omni, which was really nice. Cool town, tons of hangouts and the museums, etc. I’m sure you could fill a days there. We had a good time at the bars at night.
Sharp Accord. Much better without directional wheels.
+1...the Accord looks good. A car kept that nice looks good years later.
I wanted to keep my 99 Jeep Cherokee going for many years....I thought the style would always hold up. After about 5 years I didn't think the Jeep would hold up for the long term.....not what I would call a strong solid vehicle. That was their last year too.
My original question was meant to ask how a seller could avoid giving test drives to lookie loos or joy riders who had no means to buy . . .
Well, the sad fact (in today's world) is that you'd need to "profile" the potential buyer -- you know, look at him/her, make some (OMG) judgements. So far, that's still legal, I think.
This is EXACTLY why a lot of people choose to trade their cars in rather than try to sell them themselves. In most states the buyer gets a sales tax credit which can amount to a lot of money.
1. The trouble of running an ad. 2. Screening out the flakes and non serious shoppers. 3. The risks taken meeting at your home with what could be a bad situation. 4. Harrowing test drives with non serious flakes. 5. Hoping they have the ability to even finance your car. 6. The general liability that go's with the sale.
Thanks for the concern on the Airstream. We are going to hit the factory on Monday. Then go to meet friends, then drop it back at the factory in a week. There is no point to drive it back to Vermont then get it to Ohio For repairs anyway. The guy had Progressive insurance and they said they will pay. I want them to ship it back to me since it’s at least 4 days round trip for me. Plus, DV on an RV? We sealed it up pretty good.
I would go insane with what you do. I'd rather have 2 grand "do nothing" and not earn $3.2 per year (current APY 1.6% on decent savings accounts) than spend even a minute asking my bank to reverse overdraft charges (I'm sure it would be much more than a minute). I charge my employer approximately dollar a minute for my time (Uncle Sam gets a portion of that, of course). Considering my private time may be worth just a quarter of that, the risk/reward is not even close for me to consider doing that - and I like pinching pennies, if I can.
Well, that scenario doesn't happen very often. I think maybe twice in the fifteen years or so that I've been doing that.

Might not be the case for an Airstream, but most RVs depreciate so quickly, you'll never notice an accident history. LOL

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the Rogue. Some of my fellow transporters drive Vettes, BMWs etc. but they still liked the Rogue. I drove one for about 150 miles and it was comfortable. Rode nice too. About 28mpg on the highway.

I’m the same way, big ticket purchases like cars, houses, etc. I buy on a whim.
But, I was just doing research on high capacity SD Cards, and spent two days researching all the 128GB cards to find the best for the price. How much? About $60.
I did something similar a few weeks ago (on SD cards, not big ticket items). After finally choosing a 64GB card and a "matching" flash drive, I took a bunch of time to load a series of audio books onto them for future trips. I then took my shiny new card out, loaded it into the Q7, and promptly received "unreadable device" on the screen. What gives?!
Oh, hah. Minor detail.... the Audi MMI system will only read a 32GB drive. /sigh
I really hope the system in the Forester will manage to read the 64GB flash drive, or I just struck out big time!
Have to be careful with ancient technology from 2014 and earlier My '14 S4 wouldn't recognize lossless FLAC music files, but my '16 TTS will.

I don't get it. While that is a nice seal-em-up job, why did you stop there? Another roll of duct tape or a rattle can and you wouldn't have to mess with the factory in Ohio.

The aluminum foil tape that is used to seal air ducts would really blend in even better than the gray duct tape.
They sell the cloth duct tape in so many colors and patterns now. I wonder if they have a roll with little graphics of banged up autos for patching up cars after accidents?
Mrs Sb55 and I had planned a vacation. It’s been a really looong winter and very late Spring in Northern Vermont. I don’t think that we’ve even seen the sun in 3 weeks and the temps have been way below normal. Anyway, we are meeting friends and going to an Airstream rally in Ohio. But, on the way through the Adirondacks in New York we got rear ended in our new Airstream. The guy who hit us had a plow truck without the plow, so it rammed the back in a nasty way. Damn!
That's awful. What a moron.

Jack Johnson race car driver/boxer to be posthumously pardoned by President Trump. Maybe.
Johnson was a great boxer who loved life, loved fast cars, fur coats, cigars, tailored suits, opera, and women. He drove fast cars and was indeed driving them fast. Once, when pulled by a road officer, he was charged a fine of $50 and gave $100 to the officer saying that he could keep the change because he was about to return with the same speed.
After beating white boxer James Jefferies, Johnson was unable to find anyone who would fight him—so, he turned to car racing instead. In October 1910, he challenged Oldfield to a race. Oldfield, a flamboyant daredevil who had just set a new land-speed record (131 mph) in his Blitzen Benz, accepted the challenge at once. The competitors bet $5,000 on the contest—the driver who won two out of three five-mile heats would win the bet.
Oldfield, driving a 60-horsepower Knox car, won the first heat by a half-mile, in 4:44. In the second, he slowed down a bit—he kept just ahead of Johnson’s bright-red car, taunting the boxer as he drove–but won the race in 5:14. There was no need for a third heat: Barney Oldfield was the winner.

I don't understand how the rear seat can be flipped over so easily without there being a latch to be released first. But in case someone is in the habit of reaching over the 3rd row, the black and white diagram at the top of this news article shows how the youngster was trapped and slowly suffocated.

Probably a bit political but if you want to know the reason;
A high school student died in Cincinnati in a Honda Odyssey despite having made two Siri-dialed calls to 911.
I don't understand how the rear seat can be flipped over so easily without there being a latch to be released first. But in case someone is in the habit of reaching over the 3rd row, the black and white diagram at the top of this news article shows how the youngster was trapped and slowly suffocated.
Don't want this to happen to anyone else in their Honda.
I saw that on the news and the police drove right by the Honda and never checked it. Cop was listening to music and checked the area but didn't actually look at any cars. Sad, and a senseless death.
There are a lot of political connections resulting from this exposing known 911 department problems. The politics is local.
In Dayton, the 911 gets the GPS location of the cell phone. Apparently 911 Cincinnati doesn't have that capability--or it wasn't used. Really sad. I haven't listened to the phone calls. He told 911 to tell his mother he loved her. He knew his chest was being compressed and he would suffocate.
I posted that hoping people would know to be sure their seats latch or they don't lean over the rear seat giving a torque that rotates them carrying a person over with the seat back.
If this had happened on a GM car like the ignition switch problem, it would have become a national story about the vehicle rather than the 911 responses and the police handling. And that's not beating a dead horse.
There are other stories on cincinnati.com, but I didn't link to them because my purpose was to make sure people are alert to their Odyssey or other vehicles with seats that operate like that.

I saw that. He deserves a pardon and I hope Trump gives it to him.
I find it astounding that the prior administration apparently was given the same facts and sat on its hands. How ironic if this one goes forward with the pardon.

Yes, the very outdated Mann Act. A catch-all crime when they couldn't find anything else to charge someone with back in those days.
Two potential good pardons (the Libby pardon is also an arguably good one, as he was kind of a fall guy for glorified war criminal Cheney, and convicted on dubious testimony - many people have gone untouched for far worse). Must be to compensate for the pardon given to festering pile of garbage Arpaio.
