I think the 69 Fords started that off center dash stuff and I like it. It has been improved on since then and the Hyudai instrument panels are tastefully done...and it is nice to have the gauges and controls within view and reach of the driver. OTOH, the dash in my car is flat and not built around the driver, and I can see everything clearly. My wife likes the fact she can see the time and temperature from the passenger seat.
That's nice enough - notice how nicely that center display is centered over the controls! - but for me the silvered wood trim they offer is the bomb.
Enjoyed reading everything above the one on throughout the day today everyone sorry to job hunt a little each night going to meet with the state on Friday to get my case reopened it’s called the commission for the blind and visually impaired will help me get this last job to do what I Gotta do and stay strong and positive only a matter of weeks before the fall no more referrals coming in just closing of files and transferring them to other attorneys offices
I never had anything so special that I pine for it back. But a few oddballs I would not mind (assuming they were like when I had them!) The Nissan PU would come in real handy about now. And I always loved my 626 5 door (just hated the motorized belts).

That light colored fat steering wheel must get filthy just going back and forth to the grocery store. :@ One thing for sure, @driver100 ain't buying a car with a skinny steering wheel like that Ford has.

I haven't seen an E400 with a white wheel like that...I think they are available in Europe, mine is black. And you are right again.....number 13, I hate those skinny hard as steel little thin oversized steering wheels.
By the way, I don't have that black pinstriped trim....I took wood trim, though my wife likes brushed aluminum...I won that minor victory.

and I kinda miss my old 1975 Corolla!
I’m torn between my 1967 Stingray 427 cu in fastback and my 1966 red GTO. Those were the good old days when manual transmissions were preferred over automatics. Gosh - I miss that time in my life!
I replaced the overly restrictive catalytic converter in the M6 with a H-pipe. It sounded glorious- with a rumble at low speeds that would occasionally set off car alarms.

If we're going to pick 1986 BMWs, at least go for top of the line:
Its 1986 MB counterpart was also quite a car:
I agree, the steering wheel makes a huge impression and can make a big difference - as you are dealing with it for virtually all of your time inside the car.
Let's add an '86 quattro Audi to the mix:
'18 Porsche Macan Turbo, '16 Audi TTS, Wife's '19 VW Tiguan SEL 4-Motion
No no voice dictation not pushing them I don’t get paid posting them Ha ha ha because I enjoy watching that show for years when it was on TV before it went on to YouTube and I figured you all would enjoy it to
Mike forgot to post last night when I was last on here sorry to hear about your blood clot issue I hope everything gets resolved quickly turns out well for the best we are all here for you in here like always they closer everybody in here
The wood radio grille and windshield surround is another "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" replacement item, guaranteed to age quickly if the car ever sees sun. Same for the instrument binnacle. My fintail has a plastic radio grille, but wood windshield/vent frame - after 50+ years, it has patina, to put it nicely. These cars also have wood around the door window frames, various amounts of wood wood on the door panels, and on some models, wood door caps - another quick-to-age location.
The 1980s SECs, like the blue one I posted, have a timeless interior, too:
I like that very much. All it needs is a color-keyed steering wheel.
The wooden dash-top defroster vents on the W111 coupe strike me as an unfortunate materials choice regardless of how nice they look.
I say it needs a less complicated shift gate. I wonder how long a pre-test drive familiarization takes to show a perspective customer how that contraption works. Probably falls into the category of superb German engineering.

I know how to drive but I don't want to drive something like that.
I don't know what year that Benz is but I doubt they continued with that overly designed shift gate till today.
EDIT: I now see that the Benz is a 1980. I like the interior of my '80 Buick Park Ave to that one. Column shifter and all.

You should see the column shift on my fintail - not straight line like an old domestic, it also has notches for each gear, kind of like a 4 on the tree automatic. It might be irksome
The pictured car is from the late 80s. MB S-class coupes since 2007 have a column shift.
This is a current model - it isn't a mechanical linkage, you simply move the lever up or down, press button for park:
There's not a lot of sound homogeneous dashboard/interior design out there these days - just like with different for the sake of different exterior designs, dashboards can be a bit overdone or just odd.
Here's the new Lexus LS interior - this is a big competitor the S-class. It is...different. Especially the knobs on the gauge hood, not sure it looks the price point, although the materials are no doubt excellent:
I miss my first car, my '78 VW Scirocco. White (and eventually, rust) with black interior. Recaro seats, amber fog lights. No a/c. Quickly missed that. Light, great handling, 77hp IIRC. Could almost pick it up and put it in your pocket.

A little much.....that is an upgraded premium interior which makes the car look like a rolling bordello. Rather not have the pinstriping accents and those seats are a little overdone.

Am I the only one that finds the new S interior shown above to be awful looking?
I hate that white interior on that S Class you are referring to. I have Black Poplar wood on my dash, armrests (front and rear) and console and black leather. That white Napa quilted leather and the white dash looks awful.
I happen to like the interior of the S in term of the layout and ease of accessing routines and sub-routines.

Maybe even more wood than that Rolls-Royce.
Early models had wood over the instrument binnacle as well. This wood is very expensive to restore:

They are going to stop selling sedans in NA and only offer SUVs and trucks? How stupid can you get? At least the Mustang will still be available.
What's the thinking behind this and how do they plan on meeting federal milage requirements for fleet averages?
