Talking about all these great features, like voice command........
My friend who bought a new 2014 Lincoln MKZ said his car makes a beeping noise if he goes over the speed limit. I have never heard of this and I don't see how that could be possible.
Has anyone heard of this feature? I think maybe it makes a noise for some other reason, it's just a coincidence it happens at the speed limit.
My Fusion can do that so I'm sure it's the same system. It's called MyKey. It sets restrictive driving modes. I assume it would be very useful if you had kids driving your car.
You can program any of your keys except one, which is known as the Admin key (or fobs if keyless entry and start) to have it beep at a pre-determined speed of 45, 55, or 65 mph. The pre-set speed will also show on the display. Not only that, but you can also set a maximum speed limit. You can do many other things too such as limiting how loud the radio can be played, and traction control cannot be turned off. It will also allow you to see how many miles were driven while using a MyKey.
You cannot turn off things (and it adds things) like: the safety belt minder (and the radio will mute until buckled up), the low fuel reminder will signal sooner giving you more time to get fuel, Driver Assist features (parking aid, BLIS with cross-traffic, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning) are forced on.
thebean said: I would bet it has something to do with the NAV system. My aged Garmin unit shows the speed limit on the screen (in the format of a little speed limit sign). Maybe the system interfaces with the NAV and stores the limit and beeps if you go over it. Or maybe it is just magic.
Mr. Bean, I think this sounds the most likely. I suppose the NAV system must be aware of speed limits in order to calculate the time it takes to come up with an ETA.
If that info could be used to assess the speed limit in a given area then it could let you know when you are over the limit.
If the car does that it is very different from putting a limit on young people etc. I have seen MyKey advertised. If it is what he described, it is different than anything I have heard of...and actually could be of some use in certain situations.
Have aver you set up your Mbrace services yet, driver?
BTW, in the Mbrace App for iPhone, you can set a speed limit if you loan your car out to the kids, and if they exceed the speed limit set, you get texted. Also, you can set up a perimeter for your car when you give it to a valet to park. If the car leaves the perimeter you set, you can be texted or called by Mbrace. It also has a locate feature. If you park at s mall and forget where you parked, the app will find your car for you and direct you to it.
As for a speed limit setting, there are cars that have that feature.
Hopefully, I won't be lending the E400 to any kids, and I don't use valet services very often, probably once every 3 years. btw they showed on the news one night how those valet guys can sometimes race your car through a parking garage at high speeds.
You know my motto; 3 things I never lend, my toothbrush, my underwear and my car. These are things that are near and dear to me, and I don't like to lend them. They just aren't the same once I get them back.
My grandson's girlfriend mentioned that she would like to learn how to drive a manual car. My helpful wife pops up with well I could give you some lessons. I tapped her on the shin under the table and whispered, your going to teach someone how to drive a manual when it costs $2300 to fix a clutch (not to mention the hours I spent to get $1200 back)! I'd rather pay a driving school to give her lessons.
Mike, how are you finding the E400?
At first my wife complained about going from 300 hp in her 335 to 240 hp in the A4. But, now, we both find the A4 is so enjoyable the missing hp is not a factor. The A4 is the most fun you can have driving a car. I just hope the clutch holds up!

I'm curious if it beeps for any speed limit. My NAV system shows the speed limit, but not in every instance. It won't show on many local roads; probably because it isn't programmed in, or the speed limit changes a lot. I don't know.
BMW, and maybe others, can read the signs along the road and show the speed limit. As far as I can tell, it can also adjust for wet conditions. It has a camera mounted on the back of the rear view mirror. This would be useful, assuming you want to be beeped at, if speed limits changed like in a construction or school zone.

The motto you mentioned, "...3 things I never lend, my toothbrush, my underwear and my car..." should really be 4 things - you forgot your wife!!!
As for the E400, it is the best of all worlds when it comes to automobiles. I can enter and exit the vehicle with ease; it has all the features I could possibly want in a car and more; it handles almost as well as the CLS with the new wheels and tires; and has the power to get from 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, if need be. That bi-turbo V6 is a gas!!!
OK, venture, I spent about 30 minutes in the car this morning at the mall "talking" to my car. Please don't let anyone know I told you this because I could end up being picked up by the men in white suits and being admitted for the 72 hour observation period allowed by law!
I tried the, "...I'm hungry..." command and she responded that I need help! Then, I said, "...list hotels..." and a list was put up in my main NAV screen listing all the hotels within 20 miles. All I had to do was say "...continue..." if I wanted to see the next page or say a line number like "...7...". Once selected, the voice command lady named the hotel and asked if I wanted to call the hotel or start route guidance. So I guess it will call if I asked it to or take me there.
I then said, "...list restaurants and coffee shops..." and the same thing appeared. It listed fast food restaurants and fine dining restaurants. All I had to do was say "continue" to read the next list or say a line number and again it asked me if I wanted to call or start route guidance.
I then said, "...call Dad..." and the call was immediately placed to our home phone number.
So it would appear it has access to my "contacts" on my iPhone as well as any POI on my NAV map. I also said, "...dial 954-xxx-xxxx..." and the call was made. It also responded to any request I had for audio (CD, MP3, FM, AM, SAT, iPod, etc.). If the iPod was connected, I could request a specific title of a song and it would play the song if it was in my music registry.
I guess it will do just about whatever I ask it to do so long as I use the correct commands. There is a list of possible commands it will respond to in my manuals on the hard drive in the car. There are thousands of them - too numerous to mention or even use.
I'm just happy it will respond to my NAV entries which I also used this morning as I was looking for a branch of my bank that was close to me in Boca Raton and sure enough, there was. I just said, "...list banks..." and up came the list - the first one on the list was a branch of the bank I use locally where I live. So it loaded the route guidance and took me there in a few minutes.
I hope this answers your questions. Oh, one more - I said "...show Sirius Weather" and up popped my weather map showing rain showers in the area.
Our Audi A3 beeps at 70, that's the speed that she had programed in, and she likes it. My Golf, doesn't have that feature though I'd like it. Can't have it all I guess!

Much easier to just use voice once you get used to it. I agree on the thousands of possibilities. I find I only use a few - maybe a dozen.
Hopefully your mall doesn't use their security cameras to pinpoint crazy guys talking to their cars. Isn't is amazing how some people are still a little shocked when they see you talking to your car when driving (while taking a phone call)?
I think the main aspect of this voice technology is to keep the driver from using push buttons and knobs while driving. So long as I used the voice activation, everything is accessible while driving. But if I try to use the manual controls while driving, a message appears informing me that I do not have access while the car is moving. So voice, in a way, is a safety feature.
What I am attempting to communicate here is that I just don't use voice activation very often. I did try accessing SAT radio and told it "preset 1" and it tuned to Sirius "Love" (channel 17). I also tried just listing the channel number, and that worked too,
I just don't bother with anything when I am driving except cruise control every so often and of course the audio system which is Harmon/Kardin.
Case in point: Not having a current map caused me to miss an exit as Missouri had moved an exit a few miles. Not good when you're trying to make it to a funeral service with a car full of grieving relatives. Along those same lines, if the roads leading to a hospital or police station have changed then out of date maps are a safety issue.
Anyway, as in-car Internet takes off we'll start to see self-updating maps. Subscription at first but eventually free.
That's why they have disclaimers about how you shouldn't rely exclusively on their maps. Not just in-car GPS have that. All GPS systems/devices have that.
I do agree about self-updating maps though. Either they will be free or they'll be part of the monthly fee for data access.

I use GPS very seldom. This morning was the first time in quite a while (finding a branch of my bank up in Boca Raton). Sometimes I will use it if I am referred to a doctor I have not seen before and only have an address - which is a rare occurrence.
One nice thing about the Mbrace system (similar to OnStar) is App for my iPhone 6. If I am home and find I have to go someplace the next morning that I am unfamiliar with, I just enter the address in the App and then press "Send2Benz" and it sends the data right to the car - even though it is locked and parked. It wakes the car's NAV system to receive the destination. The next morning, when I start up the car, I am alerted that I have a destination entered and whether I want to start route guidance. It even lists the destination I sent to the car. If I say "yes", it starts route guidance. That is a nice feature.
Per the manual that came with the wife's X3 if you select the driver assistance package II with speed limit monitoring the forward camera will look for and identify the speed limit and alert if you are over.
Given that speed limit signs are fairly standard, it probably works most of the time. I bet it is usefull on rural roads and highways especially as one comes into small towns.
Her X3 does not have this feature so I can't attest to it accuracy.

Hmmm! I do have a Driver's Assistance Package and I have 3 front, 3 rear, and 2 side cameras on each side. I wonder if I have something like that? I will have to check that out.

My little TomTom GPS has the speed limits and my speed in the GPS itself. If I go over the speed limit by 5 mph, it changes color of the speed to red. Now of course, I have to update that unit manually so it's not completely up to date. Then again, I don't have to have a camera in my car reading the signs either.
We had that feature in our 1958 Buick. You set the speed manually at the speedometer and it gave you a nasty sound when you went over.
One of my Mom's Buick wagons had that feature in the 60s. She was a notorious speeder and occasionally we would dial it back to 60 and scare the heck out of her when it would buzz. She still wouldn't slow down any.
I forget what Buick called that speed alert buzzer but they first appeared in 1957 and I know full sized Buicks had them at least through the mid sixties.
I had no use for this feature on my 1965 Riviera so I just set it at 100 MPH.
One day on a deserted freeway I wasn't paying attention and it buzzed!
I was shocked and immediately slowed down to about 5 MPH over the speed limit.
Ten minutes later I came around a corner and spotted a Washington State Trooper waiting in ambush!
I have not tried very many of the voice commands in CUE on the ATS, but when I have, I had very little luck. The only thing it does fairly consistently is calling a phone number: "Dial 213-555-2368" and the like works seamlessly. Everything else is a problem so far. The problem seems to be that phone calls work fine using Bluetooth on the iPhone. For most anything else (incuding the Siri Eyes function @graphicguy told me about) the phone needs to be plugged in. I bought a cable just to use in the car, but whenever I use it, things get very confusing. CUE throws up all sorts of messages when it then continues to try to connect the phone over Bluetooth as well and I have not been able to figure any of it out, though in fairness I haven't tried very hard. But it is not obvious what to do.

Surprisingly, it was called the "Speed Alert speedometer"!

Does your CUE system have a training function like the Mercedes does? You might want to check to see if it does - it will train your voice command to recognize your pronunciation. It would also help if you had a list of the correct commands so you would know which functions you have available with the correct prompts.
Check your manuals. If that doesn't work, I would suggest a trip to your dealer for some training on the system.
As as for the cable, mine came equipped with the correct cable for the iPhone 6 and the iPod. I would think the Cadillac should also have been equipped with the correct cable - iPhone and iPod cables should be the same.
I remember the neighbor having one of those you set it buzzers for speed on his 59 Pontiac. They called it a governor.
My GPS - a Magellan - has a feature where you can set to get a warning for your choice of over the limit speeds. One for slower roads and one for highways. It gets the speed limit from either pre-programmed or receiving a signal - not sure which but I get it on a lot of roads but not on back roads or neighborhoods.
I had it set for 10 mph over the limit locally and 15 on the highway. If I exceeded those it would say "Warning." At one point I disabled it because I got too many warnings. The alternative would have been slowing down and who wants to do that?
It also warns if you're coming up to a red light camera or speed camera. The five year experiment with red light cameras in NJ expired a month ago. They still set off a warning. There's only one such light on roads I regularly travel. Now when you get into New York City there are loads of red light cameras - not all intersections but enough to treat it like they are everywhere. I'll be in there Tuesday. Unless my brother comes to be my ride (which he's done a number of times) I'll be hearing a lot of warnings that day.
It's good when we take his car. His summer car is a Saab 9-3 convertible. I'll never understand it but this is maybe his third Saab and his have reliability like Toyotas. Shall we say my experience woth Saab was not the same but I blame that on a hideous service department at what was then the local Saab dealership. Once I found a good indy the problems dried up. His winter car is an Audi A6 wagon, 2004. Paid like $500 more than I did for my Mazda. I was shocked to see it was an automatic. I think it's hos first one since his wife died 13 years ago. It's a great car to be a passenger in but an A6 is not the feel of the road car that an A3 or A4 is.

No training function to my knowledge. The problem isn't pronunciation but rather a twofold mix of what commands it actually is programmed to accept (the manual gives some examples but not a full list that I have seen), and an issue with the connectivity to the iPhone. Apparently there is a known issue with the iPhone and CUE, incredibly. It is limited in what it can do via Bluetooth but when you connect it via cable it gets confused for some reason and the whole thing freezes. I have studied the manuals and they do not help this issue since it seems it is a problem with either the iPhone or CUE recognizing the connection properly.
I should contact my sales guy and see if they have a CUE guru there. It seems odd that @graphicguy is apparently able to do things with his that mine won't even though I don't have nav. I'm having a hard time getting my head around it and it is getting frustrating.

I was told by Mercedes that there are a few issues with the iPhone 6 and Bluetooth music streaming. Phone calls are not a problem.
When I try to use Bluetooth for music, for the first 3-4 minutes, there are momentary gaps in the music of less than a second. After a few minutes, it disappears and streams the music perfectly from my iPhone to the audio system. But I don't have that problem when I connect the iPhone 6 directly to the audio system via the connection wire and jack in my console.
It is my understanding that Apple is aware of the glitches in several makes of cars and is currently working on a software update to solve the problems. Only the Lord knows how long that will take.
I was just trying to figure out why graphicguy is not having the problems you are having. It could be due to the fact that his is a 2015 CTS with the NAV hard drive. They may have run a "fix" for 2015. Also, the CUE with the NAV system is a bit more sophisticated and may allow more voice functions.
I think you should make an appointment with your dealer to have them go over the system with you as you suggested yourself.

I'm pretty sure his is a 2014 also. But yes, he does have nav and maybe that makes a difference.
One thing I have learned from browsing the Cadilac forums is that there is a wide range of opinions about CUE. I wonder, though, how much of the problem is due to the (IMO) poor manual they offer. I have read it many times and never feel like I am learning anything useful. Most of it deals with the nav and rear-seat DVD functions. It seems rather thin on the other parts of CUE.
All this talk about voice commands is making me want to get the manual out and read up on how to use the system in my Malibu. I started to do that but realized I liked using the knobs that it has and the touch controls so well tht the voice commands didn't appeal to me.
The talk about problems with Apple phones takes me back to the days I swore I never own another Apple product after being an Apple computer aficionado for a long time. A friend of ours in Canton/Plymouth Michigan emailed Friday to say he couldn't get a text to go through to our phones. He was asking what kind of phones we had. His was, of course, an Apple. he had just upgraded his iphone.
The upgraded phone couldn't text anyone other than Apple phones and other i-products.

I text my son, my daughter and my son's SO, all who have other than iPhone products. They also text me. I have not had any problems thus far. I wonder if there is another variable not yet considered that might be causing your friend's upgraded iPhone to have problems with texting. Could be his carrier.
So far, my android smartphone has worked nicely with the Golf. Even my wife's windows phone is doing well with her Audi. We decided not to pair our individual phones with the others new car because it just didn't make sense but both sales guys said this was definitely doable. Took the Audi in for a car wash, they have this as a perk of buying there which I really like. I drove it in and it already had the wife's name and info up on the big computer screens...very impressive! VW doesn't have the same system and only washes a vehicle after it comes in for service, no freebies whenever you want. Guess the luxury brands cater to their customers a lot more than the regular brands and that's a shame, really, how much extra would it be to have a free car wash policy?? Think it would bring in more customers and with increased traffic, maybe more service sales. Just a thought!!

It's all a matter of dollars and cents. Mercedes Benz provides dealer funds for car washes - any owner/lesser of a Mercedes can go to any Mercedes dealer and receive a complimentary car wash. Thus, the manufacturer subsidizes part of the costs involved in providing complimentary car washes.
VW sells twice or three times as many cars/SUV's as BMW, or Audi or Mercedes. Let's assume it costs the dealership $10.00 to provide an exterior wash, hand dry the car, vacuum the floors and clean the windows and wheels. Say VW sells 350 cars per month or 4200 cars per year. After 3 years, they've sold over 12,000 cars. Can you imagine the cost involved in washing 1/2 those cars once every other week or perhaps more often? That's $30,000+ a month. I don't know of many dealerships who could afford that.
But if you consider the average mid-sized Mercedes dealer sells 120 cars a month or 1400 cars a year and the manufacturer rebates 1/2 the cost of the car wash. That becomes a manageable expense.
I have had my car washed at most of the Mercedes dealerships in Broward County and Palm Beach County over the years when I am in close proximity to a Mercedes dealership. Also consider the average profit made on a Mercedes vs. a VW.
That is why those perks are not available universally at VW dealerships. However, some VW dealerships do offer that perk. Rick Case offers reduced price gasoline to all of their customers as well as complimentary car washes but I imagine the wait for the perks is significant.

Curious. Do you turn off Bluetooth on your phone before connecting it with the cable? If not, you may want to try that.
I see the E400 about the same. I don't think I would change a thing...they made it about as perfect as can be. The only time you might "need" more power is to get onto a crowded highway, but if you need more than 330 hp with twin turbos, there would have to be a better way to get on the highway.
Speaking of dealer car washes - the other GM dealer in town (where I didn't buy) did a major project perhaps 10 years ago and built an all-new facility. It has a car wash just off the service writers area. But when I took my previous cars there a few times for service I never had them use it. It is a relatively small, probably low-end wash with spinning brushes and I know they aren't good for the car's paint. I avoid them and on the rare occasions (usually only in winter) when I use an auto car wash it is the brushless type. Even those I am not enamored with but it does get the salt off the vehicle.
That sounds similar to what my MKZ friend described. That is pretty amazing technology!
I think the next great technology will be figuring out how to have drive-thrus with washrooms.

If all the car dealers have car washes how will the car wash business survive? It's not a good time to get into the car wash business.....they will be going the way of Motophoto Shops soon.
That sounds like a carrier issue. iPhones default to wifi and iMessage which only works with other Apple products.

Something like that. I had told him to contact his phone store who had sold him the phone. That's what they get the big bucks for. Result was he "resubscribed" to Verizon, which was his carrier to begin with. I assume some settings should have been made when they gave him the newer iPhone at the store.
Internet talks about using an app to be able to send text messages and sms to normal phones.

I text my son, my daughter and my son's SO, all who have other than iPhone products. They also text me. I have not had any problems thus far. I wonder if there is another variable not yet considered that might be causing your friend's upgraded iPhone to have problems with texting. Could be his carrier.
Speaking of text messages...I assume your E will read text messages you get while driving. I find that to be really nice. You never have to take your eyes off of the road.

It makes perfect sense to me too. Maybe I'll add that to my list...I don't lend my toothbrush, underwear, car (Mike wants me to add my wife but that one I don't have to state....any friend that asked wouldn't remain a friend) and no kids under 21 allowed in my car.
That's maybe being a little too grumpy........ even for me.
That wasn't the nut-jobs point- her reason for not wanting the kids in '02 was because she thought it was too dangerous- no airbags or electronic nannies...

Over in the CCBA thread, they listed all the cars leased/purchased by the posters and I noticed they did not have you down for your E400. I forgot the exact date you bought it, but I mentioned it to Corvette. It would be appreciated if you could post over there the exact date you got the E400 so Corvette can update the count.

Oh, I thought it was to keep the car nice and clean. You're right, that makes no sense. Electric nannies....like the kids can't travel if there isn't a DVD player? They do have portable ones. If I carry passengers I prefer they have airbags...I may feel guilty forever if someone was badly hurt and it could be prevented.
If my car didn't have airbags I wouldn't feel guilty, as you can only do what you can do. You can't run out and buy a new car each time they introduce a new safety item.
It may sound a bit crazy, but there are people who have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and to them these are very real worries. I think of it as a handicap, like a limp or broken leg. I think we are all on a scale, some people may have no symptoms, many are at 10%, my friend is probably at 90%. I give him a lot of credit, he got through life with a major handicap, people like him, he has had a few successful companies, he worked hard all his life, and he did it in spite of this major challenge.

The 2017 E Class is going to look like a downsized S Class - supposed to be one good looking vehicle. Due out in about 18-20 months - can't wait to see what they do with that car.

If that info could be used to assess the speed limit in a given area then it could let you know when you are over the limit.
If the car does that it is very different from putting a limit on young people etc. I have seen MyKey advertised. If it is what he described, it is different than anything I have heard of...and actually could be of some use in certain situations.

I do agree about self-updating maps though. Either they will be free or they'll be part of the monthly fee for data access.

2024 Genesis G90 Super-Charger
I should contact my sales guy and see if they have a CUE guru there. It seems odd that @graphicguy is apparently able to do things with his that mine won't even though I don't have nav. I'm having a hard time getting my head around it and it is getting frustrating.

2024 Genesis G90 Super-Charger
I was just trying to figure out why graphicguy is not having the problems you are having. It could be due to the fact that his is a 2015 CTS with the NAV hard drive. They may have run a "fix" for 2015. Also, the CUE with the NAV system is a bit more sophisticated and may allow more voice functions.
I think you should make an appointment with your dealer to have them go over the system with you as you suggested yourself.
2024 Genesis G90 Super-Charger
One thing I have learned from browsing the Cadilac forums is that there is a wide range of opinions about CUE. I wonder, though, how much of the problem is due to the (IMO) poor manual they offer. I have read it many times and never feel like I am learning anything useful. Most of it deals with the nav and rear-seat DVD functions. It seems rather thin on the other parts of CUE.

The 2017 E Class is going to look like a downsized S Class - supposed to be one good looking vehicle. Due out in about 18-20 months - can't wait to see what they do with that car.
