I counted last night. We still have 22 rolls in one bathroom from the jumbo pack we bought ... I don't even know when, but it has been a while. Probably another half dozen rolls in the other bathrooms.

Ok now we are talking about how many rolls of TP we have. Everytime I think we have discussed it all you guys surprise me.
You're just sore because @qbrozen has more TP than you do.

I've got 24 rolls here, bought long ago. I have a habit of buying the stuff when I see it on a good sale, and over that last couple of months that happened a few times. I'm fixed for paper towels too. :stuck_out_tongue:
My wife buys the big packages like 24 or 36 rolls in bulk and just got some the other day so I am guestimating around 25 rolls or so here.

We had a package of 12 for when we got back. On our online order we got a 12 pack of the one with a bear, and 12 with the kittens (only allow 1 of any item), so we will have 36 total....plus half a roll in 3 bathrooms! Who can top that?

I was watching the local news today and all the hosts are sitting about 10 feet apart....on purpose. Then they went to the sports guy and he said he won't have anything much to report on for at least the next few weeks.

You do realize that no bar tab means no booze? How can you be OK with no booze, especially since booze makes many chain restaurants food bearable.

Did the unthinkable - went to Costco. I was going to go skating this morning, Costco is just a couple miles from the rink, I needed some normal stuff anyway (I have plenty of TP etc), so I stopped by to fill up and get my goods.

It was wacky, but not insane. Maybe 100-150 lined up before opening, all spaced widely - people are following that advice anyway, Costco employees were preventing people from getting too close in checkout lines or in the TP/towel distribution areas (limit one per person). There was a sign for what they didn't have in stock - hand sanitizer, wipes, etc. Exit lines were as smooth as normal, I was in and out in maybe 20 minutes. Not really that bad. I had to examine the TP supply - if their stock was only what was visible, it might have lasted for another 30 minutes, tops.

Joke was on me, rink was closed (but not announced on facebook/twitter/website). D'oh. Cabin fever is going to set in quick, time to go for a walk. One bonus - no traffic. 405 - light. Bellevue gongshow city streets - sparse. Kirkland goshforsaken heckhole corridors - light.

Pics of the line - started from left, snaked around to the right and back to the left:

From what I hear you guys saying about TP, I'm confident I have all of you beat on that. It's not something new, we've always had a supply of that along with paper towels and Kleenex. What is getting a little scary is, I just looked in the freezer and I'm down to only 4 ribeyes. I say I because Mrs. j doesn't like steak and rarely eats it. She's a chicken or shrimp lover. Not that I don't eat that but I better not, for obvious reasons, decide to change my eating habits now.

Last Friday I had to stop at Home Depot and she said, "hey, since we're very close to Aldi's, I might as well get some bread and milk and I might as well look around while we are there". OK, I guess I'm part of that we. WE go in, the place doesn't look too crowded but the shelves look a little picked over and when I tried to get a couple ribeyes they were gone (surprisingly I have gotten them there and they have been fine) but she found some canned potatoes that she uses when she makes garlic roasted pototoes. She grabs 6 cans of those but when we got to the check out line, the girl said there was a 4 quantity limit on all canned items. I guess I could have been a jerk and purchased the 2 cans after she paid for what was purchased but I figured we had enough since she said we probably have a few cans at home already. What I'm trying to say is, we almost always have full shelves in our house. So, if we have to hunker down for a week or two we should be OK.

Local Meijer store is stripped of meat, noodles, TP, sanitizer, etc.. Several folks being woke wearing their face masks around. I just kept my 10 feet or more of distance from anyone. Facemasks are at home.

I need to run to Lowes to drop off an old laptop battery I replaced for recycling there. I'll check their TP. Too bad they don't have a meat department. LOL

    Things got interesting last week.
Company called a quick all hands' meeting with no agenda mentioned and my 1 on 1 got moved to after the meeting.
Meeting announced an offshore partnership and that 100 staff were being cut(20 to 25%).
Went to my 1 on 1 and manager says 'We have to go to HR'.
So, I was one of the 100, BUT it isn't all bad news.
I'm going to work for the next 3 months doing 'knowledge transfer' and will get a bonus for that.
Severance and money representing 3 months healthcare after that.
Already passed my 64th birthday, so that should get me just about to 65.

Timing was good, in that I already had scheduled time off to go to Ohio for a few days.
Took the MKZ on its' first road trip.
Adaptive cruise works really well, although I never took it down to a full stop.
It's rated @28 mpg highway, and I got 27.7, short filling after 427 miles.
Short filled again the the way home just before the PA border, average was 27.9.
Made it all the way back to CT with indicated 10 miles left until empty(still had reserve).
When I filled up in Ohio, paid $1.799 for RUG! PA was $2.50(Boo!).

I got there around 9:30 (opens at 10), they opened around 9:45, I was in by 10 and out before 10:30. Aside from the entry line, I have seen it worse on some normal weekend afternoons. I was in the area anyway and wanted something from the monthly flyer - no complaints. I too now could last for many weeks without buying anything.

Expect decimated paper goods, disinfectants, pasta.

Funny, I read earlier of someone predicting a 13% market drop today. It was 12.93%. Good guesser (I was thinking no more than 10%). Oh the cars I could buy with what I've no doubt lost in the past couple weeks.

Yeh, sorry to hear about that explorer. Good that you can lose your job and are concerned about gas mileage, that would be the last thing on my mind. I can sure empathize, I have lost lots of jobs, and I hated the whole experience.
I imagine there will be a lot more jobs disappearing if this lasts long (I know your job wasn't related to COVID 19), but most businesses need an income to pay fixed costs, and a lot of businesses are affected directly or indirectly. Airlines are losing a ton of money, but so are related businesses, food service providers, limo drivers, hotels, resorts, retail stores.....it goes on and on. I am glad I don't have a business any more.....we had to count on people going to retail stores.

That's good to hear but I'm sure you know that you can take SS at age 62. Although it is at a reduced amount compared to full retirement age. Which for me was 65 plus 10 months. I collected SS at 62 for a short spell before I decided to work as a consultant. Then I turned SS off when I was working and would have kept it turned off but because I took SS when I was 62 for a few months, the SS laws at the time, said I had to take my SS when I hit 65 plus 10 months. I could not refuse it, I HAD to take it at that time but I was going to take it anyway so that didn't bother me. I heard that law has now changed but since it wouldn't affect me I didn't care. You might want to look into how the law works now, if you decide you might want to work in the future.

    Good luck.

Let me guess - Bilderberg attendees, Rothschilds, etc are behind it? And not just the fear of under-reacting rather than overreacting? And those who know what is really going on won't actually go into detail, of course.

I have a conspiracy theorist friend who is pretty funny, but he usually just gets worked up about Atlantis and Area 51. There's a line about mistaking something for being sinister when it is actually simple error.

Q, looks like the non-essentials are just forced to close by 8 PM, but can be open during the day as long as they limit customers in the store at one time. Fine by me. as long as I can get something if I really need it not a personal impact. But man, so many small businesses (mostly restaurants) are going to get hammered, and I bet a bunch of them never reopen.

But not all. He was kinda cryptic, honestly. We listened and he said, among other things, gyms and similar classes will be closed until further notice. It affects us because we do that 6 days a week between the 4 of us. We are about to start an online karate class in 18 mins for the first trial. I’m supposed to teach a class tomorrow night, evidently. This will take some creativity.

Gyms and Theaters are shut down entirely. It was retail that had options.

We tried our local Trader Joe’s this morning. Lines down the block! Came back in the early afternoon, the staff were regulating how many people could be in the store at a time, but the line was short and we got in within a few minutes. Shoppers are limited to 2 of any one item. Some items were completely out — TP of course, most pasta, and olive oil — but most of the items we buy were stocked. Picked up 2 of everything rather than 1, and good to go for awhile. Went to our workout — our trainer has his own studio and even a side gate if you don’t want to go through the main entrance. He’s quite OCD and religiously cleans all the equipment after every client. Good to sweat out some of the stress!

    @jmonroe,
A few months ago, I went to a Soc Sec information session.
It was informative, but the presenter was really trying to gather leads for his insurance business.
If you start collecting and change your mind, you have to stop it within the first year and pay back the benefits you received.

I was truly impressed with the manner in which you are handling this forced disengagement from your job. I would be panicking but you seem to be taking this in stride - sort of like an early retirement. Kudos explorer! Great attitude due to your strong psyche. Best of luck!

Looks like the SF Bay area is going into a hard shut down now. I have a suspicion this will be in the Seattle metro too. Gym closed, rinks closed, restaurants closed, drinking is looking attractive now.

    @abacomike,
    Like tjc78 wrote, crazy times.
I've been working for over 40 years and could kind of see this coming with our company, so not totally surprised.

Slowing the spread now is believed to move more infections into warmer weather. Some think
warmer weather will also slow the spread of the flu virus. So severe reductions in contacts
now may have a payoff in a few weeks.

Are the restaurants still doing to go or pickup orders and drive through?

We can only hope. I support being on the side of caution even though this is going to be a mess to clean up for some time.

As far as I have read, take-out is still possible in CA, and is still operating here - I walked past a take-out only Starbucks today.

    Humor is needed:

My (conspiracy) theory is that we’ve been conditioned by too many doomsday shows on tv. Right now I’m watching a supposed science show which is exploring the destruction of the earth by everything from black holes to giant squids from mini planet Ceres.

Yesterday, drove by a sign for the 'Hudson Valley Tattoo Festival'.
Wonder how that's going to go?
