People who are willing to continue living their lives. Some of us still exist. I actually went to a convenience market today -- OMG.

In a way it's nice getting old(er). You don't have to put up with this sort of nonsense for nearly as much longer as the (let's say people) who create it. They can live in the mess.

The area under the curve will be a constant in North America (and everywhere else). My hair-on-fire wife guided me to sources that pointed out that "flattening the curve" in the near term will reduce the pressure on the medical infrastructure at any one time.

Turns out, she's right. The same (huge) number of people in North America will end up being infected by this thing, but knocking down the peak means that there will be a more spread out impact on the system (respirators, ICUs, etc).

As I've said earlier, it's a good time to be an antisocial retiree. For those who still need to interact in the real world -- God bless.

If you aren’t worried about yourself, think about other people who aren’t so fortunate as to be under 60 and who also have pre-existing conditions, like me. Let’s say you aren’t worried about getting the virus yourself, cuz it’s often mild. But you will be one more person who will be spreading it to others, some of whom are at high risk. This is the time for all of us to be thinking about the whole community, not just ourselves.

    Happy Pi Day

Thanks for the reminder. I've been a four place person (guy in the old days) since high school: 3.14159.

That's 5 places. I just did 3.1416...couldn't squint hard enough to get anymore than that on my sliderule and that was before I had cataract surgery. I doubt I could get more than 3 places today. B)

at the market they had a sign up in the TP section that the delivery tonight would have a fresh stock. I chatted with the cashier who said they restock overnight and should be available when they open at 7:00 AM. I told the wife she should be there when they open. she did not seem too enthused by that plan, but said I could feel free to go. But might want to get some food instead as we have no meat left.

she also inventoried the TP supply. 10 rolls in the house. Apparently that is a pretty good supply. but if I see it, will grab another package!

10 rolls ain't nothing. I just took inventory of the house and this is what I found and NO, we didn't just buy this. The last TP purchase was bought when we went to Sam's about 2 weeks ago:

Basement: 1 unopened 45 mega size roll package from Sam's plus 1 sub pack of 9 roles from a previous 45 role package.

1st floor powder room: 3 mega rolls in the vanity plus 1 role on the in-use dispenser.

2 nd floor common bathroom: 4 mega rolls in the vanity plus 1 roll on the in-use dispenser.

Bathroom off the master bedroom: 4 mega rolls in the vanity plus 1 roll on the in-use dispenser.

You do the math, my head hurts.

So the impact of Covid-19 is real and seriously affecting companies.

My wife's place was told mandatory WFH today as a test to how the operation flows with the office shut down.

I just got off the phone with the company that wants to make an offer to me. Their offices are being shut down and they can't extend any offers until what decisions come next.

So I lose another week minimum, won't hear anything until next Thursday when their next update is.

    Brutal!

Oh, and was just at Dollar General for some wrapping paper for my son's gifts. They had plenty of TP, no hand sanitzer.

My employer has implemented an essential employee only policy and work from home for as many as can. I will be working from home with an occasional trip into the office, when I do go in I can only be the only one in my department there.

Yeah, go figure. A few years ago the Tom Selleck “Jesse Stone” TV movies, set in Massachusetts, were filmed locally. It was fun to spot locations that were supposedly in Boston that were downtown Halifax, and seeing Laura, a lady I dealt with for work, playing the role of a bartender. Our film incentive program at the time made it attractive for production companies to film here, not so much now.

Not to mention all the American tv shows that were filmed in Vancouver. Some of our cable channels are nothing but Canadian detective shows so I guess we aren’t as susceptible to that subversion.

There was a car cruise in scheduled today. We've had a mix of rain and snow at 32 deg F. I decided not to drive the hour to the show. There was another closer show scheduled for tomorrow that's closer.

Outdoor gatherings should be safe for social distancing.

It’s funny, I was at the bank this morning and went inside because the drive thru was mobbed. Lobby was pretty empty but some guy behind me in line was standing just about on my heels. I wanted to turn and say “woah, social distancing, dude” but then I remembered I don’t believe the hype.🤪

    Other observations:

    Panera’s closed their lobby.

My son was at McDonald’s and there was a sign that said due to the governor’s edict, seating was reduced by half. The only trouble was that they had roped off one half of the restaurant forcing everyone to sit close to each other in the remaining half.

I think they missed the point.

So many of them take place in Seattle too, always amuses me.

X-Files was especially good at this. I am very familiar with most of BC, and seeing locations I recognized pretending to be random US locations always gave me a laugh.

I guess it could be a myth, but I did not intend it as a joke. Not something to joke about. After doing further on line research the consensus is that this is not a valid test for coronavirus, but it also said that a test of this sort could tell you if your lungs are compromised in some way.

Egg beaters, vegan eggs or "plant based" eggs can be used for something I guess.

The front seats look comfortable, though most larger SUVs seem to have comfortable seats. The rear seats in the Lincoln SUV we took to the airport had extremely comfortable seats. I don't find the Tahoe instrument panel is especially beautiful by todays standards. That media screen looks like it is floating in place....like an afterthought. When we got to Toronto the airport limo was a newer Lexus, I found the instrument panel to be rather plain, but a very pleasant sleek design. I found the side windows were extremely narrow, so that could turn me off the car. But the ride, comfort of the seats, and the solidness were positives.

Re: the next thing to be hoarded.

I watched a cable news expert splain that people stockpile items which are both cheap and personal - as in something which people find necessary for personal care.

Perishable items like eggs or dairy may be less a target than paper products because you would actually have to use perishable items before they go bad.

So if eggs are the next panic buy item, buyers would have to actually use the 12 dozen eggs stockpiled in their fridge. I think even crazy people know that would be crazy.

I went with the mrs to BJs this morn. On the way there, we could see people lined up at grocery stores, and I thought we’d turn back once we saw BJs. Not so. Got there 5 mins after opening, got a parking spot like 5th in the row, breezed in and around and were 3rd in the checkout line. No TP nor lysol wipes to be found, but we didn’t need either. Only other aisle ransacked was frozen meats.

I think it's a dilemma for designers when touchscreens are used, because they have to be within easy reach which means you often end up with them perched on the dash to do that, which can make them look like an afterthought.

The Lexus examples @driver100 posted do not use touchscreens so they can be made more integrated in the dash design, but they make you use a touchpad and jog control on the console which many people find not intuitive nor easy to use.

I like that 2020 Tahoe dash that @gagrice posted well enough, especially because they have restrained the amount of black used in that particular interior color.

I am 76 and got tired of counting at 20 seconds. So I think I will continue to drool over my next vehicle. Dashboards seem to be a popular discussion. How about the new 2021 Chevy Tahoe and front seats?

I just found another kid in here.

FWIW, I don't think the dash is so bad but how do you get that beast out of Park? Another FWIW, I also don't get this pop up screen thingy but it seems to be here to stay.

Yeh, just where is the shifter? And, another thought, that dash could have come out of a 1999 SUV, the only really new looking thing is it has the media screen but it looks like they remembered to add it at the last moment. I do like how they integrated the door handles

I am using the MB GLE450 to compare....just to point out one looks like it is fresh and a completely new look, one looks like it was quickly freshened up.

In fact, it hasn't changed much since this 2003 Impala...just add the media screen.

I think MB does among the best job at integrating screens into the overall design. I don't like the "suddenly it's 2012" fixed stand up tablet look that still seems to be in vogue.

E-class handles it especially well, as I know you can relate:

For whatever reason, GM always had sad looking steering wheels back in the day.

Here is a pic that should answer your question:

I'm glad M-B seems to be moving away from the plethora of large round air vents on the dash. Doesn't look appropriate for a luxury car. And what is that thing on the console that looks like a square hockey puck?

If you think that Tahoe looks anything like a 2003 Impala dash, I think you need the eye surgery @abacomike recently had. You should look into it. :sunglasses:

Square hockey puck is the scrolling device.
If I saw the Tahoe dash, I could guess what car it belonged to.

No Diesel, No Lexus. Besides no dealer where I live. I refuse to go to Las Vegas to buy and have service. So it is GM or Jeep/Chrysler for me.
