I installed the new CHMSL on the Clubman today. It was a very easy fix- I didn't even break out the fire extinguisher. Just remove 8 T20 screws, unplug and snap out the old led panel, and as the Brits sat, installation is the reverse of removal. Another day dancing on the ragged edge of danger...

Oh man you had to use a fancy Torx driver. You got skilz.
Yep, nothing like having the right tool/s when you’re doing a job. I’ll bet he has both a claw hammer and a ripping hammer too and knows the difference without running to Google to look it up.

Not sure why you would have both but what they hey. I'll bet that most people would think they are the same.
You’re right most people don’t know the difference BUT if you’ve done any rough carpentry you know the difference. To save me time trying to explain it, go to Google. AND, hammers have different weights for ease of driving different size nails. It makes no sense to use a 22 ounce hammer to drive carpet tacks. Of course today with air nailers that is my choice and there are different sizes of those too but it saves having to swing a hammer when you got lots of hammering to do. I’d be willing to bet that most young carpenters today look at a traditional hammer as a tool that only takes up space in their tool box and should be avoided unless forced to use it.

    jmonroe
Yeah I know there is a difference if you're a professional carpenter. But the average Joe doing DIY work wont really see a difference between the two and would easily get by with one, actually in that situation getting both is a waste of money.

..........it lasted for 11 years! - not very long for an LED.

. One primary feature of the LED is its long life expectancy: it’s often tipped as having a potential lifespan of up to 10 years per bulb. Problem is: real-world tests have shown almost 30% of the bulbs (66 of 230 bulbs) actually failed long before this.
So, how long do LED light bulbs really last?
Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to this question.
The lifespan of LED light bulbs depends on several key factors, but generally speaking the range is anywhere between 10,000-50,000 hours.
That’s a big range, but it means that your LED bulb could last up to 10 years, depending on how extensively it’s used and the conditions it’s used in.
While we can’t definitively say how long a bulb will last for, LED bulbs are still much longer-lasting than their traditional counterparts, as seen in the table below

    They tend to detiorate....so time is a big factor. If you are really bored you can read in even more detail;

So I was looking at an F-Type at the dealer where an old friend from BMW is now working. About the same time I was clearing out some of my older car magazines. One issue of Automobile had a long term wrap-up of an M235i. One writer referred to it as the modern iteration of the E46 M3. Another said that from a standpoint of fun, performance, and everyday usability it was a better choice than the F-Type, 4C, and GT-R. While I think that’s quite a bit of hyperbole, it does reinforce my decision to be very careful what I decide to choose as a replacement for the 2er. I definitely want a coupe and there are few cars that I think I might like better than the 2er- M2C, Cayman, and the 6 cylinder Supra are about it.
FWIW, Automobile was much less enamored with the M550i, preferring the Stinger GT instead. And I’d definitely concur.

Rooney the Wonder Dog has dispatched at least six raccoons to that great garbage can in the sky.

What kind of a dog? A lot of dogs are smart enough not take on a raccoon. A cornered raccoon can inflect a lot of damage! They are quick and they are MEAN! Sounds like this dog is up to the task! Does it kill cats too?
He's a "Border Collie/Shepherd mix" according to the Kentucky Humane Society, where we adopted him. He has never shown the slightest bit of aggression to a human, but everything else(save our one cat) is a potential target. One night he killed a raccoon and left it on the side porch then went on to whack a groundhog and leave it on the front porch. He's also killed numerous snakes and chased off a coyote. One day he caught a woodpecker- don't ask me how. I managed to get it away from him and it flew off- apparently unhurt.

And here is proof that he-reluctantly-tolerates our cat:

    Sounds like a great dog!
You must have really slow email service....that was from 3 days ago.

Here is something for youze guys to think about. I got an obit notice in my email that a fellow I supposedly know died. It is from an outfit called Legacy.com, out of Chicago.
I don't know of anyone by this name. There was an interior decorator shop in town (population 25000) and that is the only person I know who has that name. That store has been gone for about 5 years.
Is it possible, they check to see who dies, they notify people in the same town, that way they can target you for more stuff?

That email alert sounds like you have an account with legacy.com. Have you searched or posted to that site?
I’m still waiting for my $26 million from Nigeria! 😜🤪. I also am still waiting for my inheritance from a long lost and forgotten great uncle who lived in Hong Kong! 🤓
Wait a minute....You didn't get your check from Nigeria yet either?

OF, I know when I'm in our chase vehicle and I'm not driving it then, am usually on my smart phone surfing the web. We have a family plan with 3 lines with 20 gigs of data/month with rollover. As a group, we never go over 5gigs, so have plenty to play with each month. After awhile, it can get boring just looking out the windows so having our cells does make the day much calmer.
We're still at 3 drivers/vehicle and not sure when that number will increase. It's either a Ford transit or Chevy 15 pack. A minivan would work just as well but we do not have a choice. What does Enterprise do in your area?

I’ve always used peg board and painted it white with a roller to reflect light. Peg board has always worked for me and both of my sons also use it.

I’d find a retail store going out of business and get it dirt cheap. I also have lots of contacts at store fixture places, so I’d pay wholesale. It’s about $55-60 a 4x8 sheet.

tomorrow's chore here is finally getting the new shed organized and everything put away, and the last of the crap out of the garage. I bought a new shelf unit at Lowes, now just have to decide where those go and clean up the boxes and other crap. Once that is done, probably getting a piece of pegboard for the end wall so I can hang up the yard tools like the edger and weedwhacker.

Call me a spendthrift. On top of that it makes my garage peg board look like I know what I’m doing. At least that is what several neighbors have said in each of the 4 houses I have owned. 😀

    jmonroe
I have to get some pegboard up in my garage. Either that or slat wall. People always laugh at my pegboard because it’s so well laid out. I can’t help it... all those years micro space planning !
I just looked at the prices of that slat wall stuff, pretty pricey if you ask me. If I bought that slat wall stuff I couldn’t afford the tools to hang them up. I’ve always used peg board and painted it white with a roller to reflect light. Peg board has always worked for me and both of my sons also use it.

Maybe that slat stuff is better suited for yuppy hoods that have the “open concept” style in the main living areas.

    jmonroe
I’d find a retail store going out of business and get it dirt cheap. I also have lots of contacts at store fixture places, so I’d pay wholesale. It’s about $55-60 a sheet.
That still sounds pricey to me. A 4 x 8 sheet of peg board costs just under 20 bucks at Home Depot and that’s before my 10% veterans discount. I’m not sure how close you can get tools to hang on slat board but I doubt you can get it packed as closely as peg board.

As it is, my tools are hanging nose to toe above my 16 foot tool bench. Plus, I have one side wall of the garage packed with other stuff on peg board. Spacing any further apart and I’d have to get a larger garage.

I particularly liked London, Amsterdam, Moscow and New York. Seems they have local radio stations on too. The list of cities is in the upper right corner;

It’s stronger than pegboard so if you had a sheet running high you could hang a spreader or other heavy items. You can also buy knife brackets and place shelving anywhere you want.

Yes, pegboard with 1” on center holes is more flexible for hanging small items than the 3” on center slots.

We use either use a 12 passenger Chevy van or a Chrysler Pacifica. The crews are either 2 or 3 drivers plus a chase. Sometime the boss will send all the drivers to make deliveries and arrange a similar number to return thus eliminating the need for a chase vehicle.

I’m hoping when this vaccine gets rolling we’re can go back to 6 packs in a mini van and they’ll relax the restrictions, particularly the staggered start times. This has to be costing the company a fortune. Last week we had 6 cars to deliver to a dealer 100 miles away. Previously we could have done most of it with one trip but this time it took 3.
I’m signed up for vaccine on 12/21 at 8 am.

How's that process working down there? Up here it is being very tightly controlled by govt, with the first doses to arrive going to health care workers, the next allotment going to people 80+ yrs of age, then other groups deemed vulnerable until eventually sometime next year it gets to the rest of us poor slobs. I understand that most types will require 2 shots with the second 3-4 weeks after the first, which should slow the process.

Indiana University health is one of the systems to provide vaccinations. Due to my job, I was in the first group to be offered a vaccination. Also helpful due to my own health (or lack thereof) history.

First round goes to healthcare workers and nursing homes as I understand it.

Pfizer second shot 21 days later. Moderna is 28 days

We're still at 3 drivers/vehicle and not sure when that number will increase. It's either a Ford transit or Chevy 15 pack. A minivan would work just as well but we do not have a choice. What does Enterprise do in your area?

My nephew who lives in NYC just came down with covid as did all his room mates in his shared apartment. He’s in his 20s so it’s barely slowing him down but he can’t work for 2 weeks. His sister who works in a nursing home tested positive one day and negative the next. I’m pretty sure I had it back in July but never got tested since I was on lay off at the time and hadn’t gone anywhere for weeks except for my annual check up (where I’m convinced I caught it).

I have an air nailer for the big stuff, but use a battery powered one for trim. I have a tack hammer too. :D
    Bragger. ☹️

I'll let you use the tack hammer if you want to.

Yeah I know there is a difference if you're a professional carpenter. But the average Joe doing DIY work wont really see a difference between the two and would easily get by with one, actually in that situation getting both is a waste of money.
Call me a spendthrift. On top of that it makes my garage peg board look like I know what I’m doing. At least that is what several neighbors have said in each of the 4 houses I have owned. 😀

I keep my tools in a tool chest. That way people can't see how many hammers I have and ask to borrow one since I have so many.
    Good idea.

Spacing any further apart and I’d have to get a larger garage.

    jmonroe
It’s stronger than pegboard so if you had a sheet running high you could hang a spreader or other heavy items. You can also buy knife brackets and place shelving anywhere you want.

Yes, pegboard with 1” on center holes is more flexible for hanging small items than the 3” on center slots.
Now you’re seeing things my way. But I agree that the slat wall thingy is better for the heavy stuff but in those cases, I just use concrete block wall anchors.

I think I’d be afraid to use the slat wall system because people might start thinking I’m a designer rather than a doer.
