I am up north due to jobs and family. The jobs are up north due to the industrialization around the Great Lakes where the big iron ore deposits are.

However I want to move south for retirement but she who must be obeyed wants to stay here (much to my surprise as she does not handle the cold to well).

Well, I did use the heated steering wheel option this morning. Was a welcomed warmth on a 42 degree morning. Also used my heated seats.

I did not want the heated steering wheel option, but that’s how the car was equipped for the dealer in Mississippi along with the logo projections on the front doors. But at least I am getting some use out of the heated steering wheel.

Tonight, it’s going into the mid forties so I suspect I will use the option tomorrow morning.

I saw three 🦎 iguanas laying in the street this morning - all of them were green. A truck was loading one of them into the back as I passed them. These were at least 4 feet long from tail to nose - big suckers!🤓😜😇

About the Steelers, true but only recently. The team with the most regular season wins is the Bears with almost 140 more wins than Pittsburg (but playing a dozen more seasons). Then the Packers, then the Giants, with Pittsburg coming in fourth.

Considering Pittsburgh was consistently between terrible and mediocre during pre-merger decades (one playoff appearance before 1972), fourth place seems quite generous, perhaps a testimony for their performance after the merger. These regular season wins gave Bears just one post-merger championship (eight before), which is not whole lot, is it? Looks like Bears are all about past glory and consistently squandered opportunities. Packers and Giants have much better balance between pre- and post-merger performance.

Fourth place isn't all that generous seeing that the Pirates are one of the oldest teams in the NFL, and if you go by win/loss percentage then they drop to 9th place and Green Bay makes the top spot.

Believe it or not, where a team ranks in all-time wins only means something to those that get hung up on history. What most people care about is how many championships a team has acquired recently. The 4 Super Bowls that the Steelers won back in the 70’s means very little to the fans around here today. What they want is one they get to see today. It doesn’t look promising that the Patriots will win one this year but their fans will hold onto their accomplishments until the day they die.

It’s going to be a cold day in Hawaii when any team does what they have done for two decades. That history will live on forever.

Actually all time wins can be a good indicator as long as its comparing like teams. In other words you cannot really compare The Chicago Cubs and the Arizona Diamondbacks as the Cubs won over 11,000 games in their history but the Diamondbacks have played less than 3,700 games total. That's why I prefer to look at the win loss ratio. While that might not properly represent the present condition of a team it does give a good indication of the team as a whole especially when we talk about teams that are in their second century of existence as fortunes do ebb and flow.

My main concern with championships and league standings with football based season to seaon is that the season is really to short to overcome statistical anomalities. That is an average team in football can hit a streak near the end of the season and make it through the Super Bowl. Or a great team can hit the momentary skid and miss out of the big dance. In hockey, basketball and baseball the seasons have more games which allow for a more smoothing out of averages. Also due to limited games in a season and one game playoffs a bad call, bad play or just the team having an off day can change who goes to the next round while in other sports teams have a chance to overcome those things, i.e. one bad game doesn't necessarily ruin a season.

One bad game will definitely ruin a season if you make it to the playoffs in the NFL. Those are the rules. You can’t apply the rules of other sports to all sports. Maybe that is why football is the most popular sport in America. Baseball is still hanging onto the old saying that it is “America’s Pastime” (very apply named BTW) because we all know that time is past, like it or not.

No it's not a rule, it's a consequence of the schedule.

Baseball is called America's pastime due to it's a better sport to watch live with a group of people. It's played in the summer when it's warm and your not freezing to death and it's no continual action so you can have conversations with friends and the crack of the bat will tell everyone that something is going on with the game. In short it welcomes more of a picnic attitude than most other games.

Also don't count on football being the most popular sport in America for long. May factors are conspiring to knock it out of that spot.

And I still think that a football team should be allowed to field a 12th man in the opposing teams uniform.

Call it what you like, in the NFL, if you lose one game in the playoffs, you’ll be watching the rest of the playoffs on TV.

As for that 12 th man in the opposing teams uniform, the Jets have lost about a dozen players so far this year doing that because they defected.😳

I may be setting myself up for criticism but I sent my BIL in Florida some frozen steaks for Christmas. I’d rather give him fresh ones but the logistics don’t work.

No, I’m not saying the product is bad, although I have never bought them myself. A couple people I know have said they have gotten steaks just as good at their local butcher shop and even grocery stores. It’s not fair to compare a nice filet to a run of the mill strip steak, which BTW I have not purchased for years now. My go to steak is a nice thick ribeye and when I feel worthy I get a nice filet.

You should not feel bad about sending frozen steaks to family members for various occasions. From what I understand, sending those steaks is a well received gift. Sending a gift card to the recipients local butcher shop, probably not so much.

There was a box of steaks, burgers, and something else I don't remember sitting near our back door one time from Omaha Steaks. We didn't order them. (Cover Sandy's eyes - I suspect it was a lazy mail carrier) - maybe UPS guy?

I called Omaha and they said to keep them and they would send another box out.

Everything was very good.

Luckily my BIL got his so that’s one less worry. I used Kansas City Steaks.

We used to go to a rustic themed steak house (you know, peanut shells on wood floors) and I’d get my steak Pittsburgh style. Sooooooo good.

Pittsburgh style steaks (blackened on the outside and rare on the inside), has a pretty good story behind it:

Back in the day, more than 100 years ago, when the steel mills were going strong around here, on Sundays, wives would send their husbands off to work with a raw steak in their lunch bucket. Come dinner time the guy would take out the steak, brush off a spot on the molten steel vat, then slap on the steak for about 20 or so seconds then scrape it off and flip it over to cook the other side. Several steel workers did this at the same time. If nothing else that place must have smelled like a fine steak house at dinner time.

That’s the popular story in these parts, believe it or not.

I like seasons, bring on some snow! It will move on in time. That being said, summers here aren't as humid as points east, and fall/spring are very pleasant.

FL to me is a nice place to visit, but enough of a gongshow in a few ways that I don't think I'd be able to hold on to my slowly dwindling sanity if I had to live there. But with the passage of time, I think it might just improve, baby steps.

I have to use the heated seats and heated steering wheel. The heated steering wheel must be great for people with arthritis....it is like physio for the hands. I am surprised at how hot the console gets though....and even if only the passengers seat is being heated. Mrs D keeps he bum warmer on a lot longer than me, and I am getting 3rd degree burns on my right elbow!

Now I do have heated grips on the motorcycle and that makes a big difference when out on chilly days. The bike has fairings and a higher windshield that keeps the wind off the rider but nothing to keep the wind off the hands so the heated grips come in great.

I think I told this story here before, but just before I retired, our main Communications/PR guy was driving a 2008 Elantra. He, his GF/fiance and 2 kids were driving to his hometown about 300 miles from here one Saturday morning when they smelled something burning. They pulled over, and she realized when he got out of the drivers seat that his pants were on fire. It was more of a smouldering than an outright blaze, but when he got back to the city the next week he brought them with him into the office to show me before asking for a couple of hours to go to the Hyundai dealer to plead his case. They said they couldn't find anything wrong and attributed the singed upholstery to his pants being overly prone to burning, not the heating element, but they did give him a little money to buy new pants with.

When I worked at a dealership getting cars out of a back lot in freezing windy conditions they didn't have heated seats. Back then with a really bad and snowy winter it was nice to have Nordic blood in my veins.

The heated seats in the Clubman get very hot. Even in extremely cold weather I eventually have to turn them down. I can use Carly to adjust the seat heating temps at all three settings on the 2er- and possibly the X1. I I may bump up the temp a bit on the max setting.

My wife complains about the heaters on the Countryman, and can’t use them on the high setting.

My 2017 Elantra with cloth seats got stupid hot. No way those could be left on high too long.

The 04 Grand Marquis used to get smoking hot then would cool off a little and stay there. I always thought that was weird.

I would say that with our BMW the heated seats on high can get a bit uncomfortable but not overly hot when it's on high, I usually have it at a lower setting.

Now I mention the bike has heated handgrips, on high those things can get hot, very hot.

I've noted this before, but (so far) the heated steering wheel is the pinnacle of man's creation. The seat heat settings in the Jag are:
1. Very hot
2. Wicked hot
3. Liar, liar

I'm a lifelong New Englander (save for the first few years in Manhattan); I love it. Four-ish seasons with weather that only on rare occasions destroys things. In the winter, if it's cold, add a layer. If it snows, I ski. I don't have to travel or pay to "Leaf Peep." But, raking 'em stinks. In too hot climes, unlike being able to add a layer,in cold, you can only get so naked. My next move likely will still be in New England.

However, I definitely could also dig living in shorts most of the year.

Made an appointment, over a week ago, with my local shop for oil change/tire rotation/general inspection. Arrived at 0800 as scheduled, no record of the appointment and they are booked for the day. So, see you next Wednesday at noon. That's ok, I'm on vacation and nothing wrong with a nooner.

I scoffed at the heated steering wheel as a gimmick. Until I had a car with one (my Sonata) and realized it was a wonderful invention. Sadly, neither of my Acuras came with that, since I am too cheap to pay the extra $ for the "advanced" package.

The RDX does apparently have auto heated seats. Not quite sure what parameters that uses, but likely won't try them ever. If it is nippy, we push the button and once warmed up just turn it off. See no need to leave it on for an extended period once the car is warm (and the seats are toasty).

The ATS has auto heated seats. I assume it uses the ambient temp sensor as its guide. When you start it on cool/cold days the seat heaters automatically come on. I think the heated steering wheel does the same.

Who knows. They worked that way from when Pop got the car new. I’m guessing when first turned on they go at max and then hit a temperature and throttle back. They worked different than any other car I’ve had with heated seats.

My trouble with seat heaters is that I forget to turn them on. The seat heaters in Mrs. j’s Subie will get hot very fast, my Genny is just about right even on high. In both cases once the seat is warm, I turn them off. No need for heat once the seat is warm as far as I’m concerned.

Now, cooling seats (only on my luxo Genny. Mrs. j’s grocery getter doesn’t have them), I forget to turn them on all the time. Might as well not even have them. Heated steering wheel, neither car has it. Sometimes you just gotta man up.

I am in the same boat. Heated steering wheel seemed like a silly gimmick, then I experienced one, and was overwhelmed, so nice on a cold day. 20 years ago I was the same way about heated seats, then I tried them. The wagon has the "warmth and comfort package", which has heated steering wheel, armrests, and console lid - I am not complaining.

My Legacy has a heated steering wheel. I sort of like that. I rarely use the seat heaters. My grand daughter uses the seat heaters in the rear all the time.

I turned on the seat coolers thingy's one time to see if it works. That creeps me out for some reason. I never use them.

He's a "Border Collie/Shepherd mix" according to the Kentucky Humane Society, where we adopted him. He has never shown the slightest bit of aggression to a human, but everything else(save our one cat) is a potential target. One night he killed a raccoon and left it on the side porch then went on to whack a groundhog and leave it on the front porch. He's also killed numerous snakes and chased off a coyote. One day he caught a woodpecker- don't ask me how. I managed to get it away from him and it flew off- apparently unhurt.

I learned yesterday that 140 businesses have left Seattle and will not be reopening. The cruise industry used to brings tons of money into Seattle but now they are gone for now anyway. Making matters worse, the recent riots brought a lot of adverse attention. No longer the sparkling, vibrant city it once was. Sad to watch the decline.

What kind of a dog? A lot of dogs are smart enough not take on a raccoon. A cornered raccoon can inflect a lot of damage! They are quick and they are MEAN! Sounds like this dog is up to the task! Does it kill cats too?

He's a "Border Collie/Shepherd mix" according to the Kentucky Humane Society, where we adopted him. He has never shown the slightest bit of aggression to a human, but everything else(save our one cat) is a potential target. One night he killed a raccoon and left it on the side porch then went on to whack a groundhog and leave it on the front porch. He's also killed numerous snakes and chased off a coyote. One day he caught a woodpecker- don't ask me how. I managed to get it away from him and it flew off- apparently unhurt.

Same for my Malibu. Based on outside temp the seats are warmed up and the heated rear window is activated. If warm the AC is turned on when the car is remote started.
