My point was car fires, in any vehicle, are something to worry about. I never said any particular brand was immune. Even Cadillac.
When you’re talking to him you’re supposed to say even MB.🤓

Yep, like that. A picture is worth a thousand words.
jmonroe
Is that a Genesis? I can't tell...
Genny’s don’t burn...they melt. More environmentally friendly because it saves a lot of pollution.

One month old G80 goes up in flames; They think it ran over something on the highway that got stuck, caused friction and a spark, and then the car went up in flames. Samething must have happened to the MB I am sure
Just remember that exhaust is hot and therefor your exhaust system is hot. Get any type of flammable item under the car touching the exhaust and you have a chance of the car catching fire.
a buddy sent me pics of a GV80 at the dealership. Good GOD that thing has a MASSIVE grille. Also can't say I'm confident such a high center console will work in an SUV.

Not cat related but close, Me and she who must be obeyed ended the day out at the local motorcycle gear shop looking to replace our helmet's (they are both over 5 years old) and I bought myself a nice full faced helmet that fit like a glove and had a photochromatic visor. The helmet was snug and comfortable. I also pick up a new set of gloves since my old one were only gloves in an academic sense and needed replacement. These new gloves were the best feeling gloves of any kind that I ever worn.
Now I cant wait for good riding weather, hope it's an early spring.

We have spent billions of dollars to set up weather monitoring stations, send up weather satellites and studying weather patterns and with all this scientific knowledge and high tech systems and you want me to see what a rodent that's wrong most of the time says based on if its sunny at the specific time it gets its lazy you know what out of the ground?

I had a great aunt who was from Punxsutawney PA. She had a pronounced twang in her speech. When I visited Punxsutawney many years ago, I noticed all the folks there had that same twang in their speech.
Jmonroe - I haven’t noticed any twangy posts from you - are you sure you are from western PA? 😜🤪🤓

Pretty sure that “twang” is a century old residual effect past down by previous family members due to standing out in the cold in the wee hours of the morning in early February waiting to find out what their famous rodent will say about the coming of Spring.
As for me, I don’t need twangy posts to get my point across. I just tell it like it is.😎

Are you really that worried about your safety or is it as you said not wanting to drive a vehicle with even a potential problem after paying many thousands. Me, I’d take the car back with a veiled threat of legal action if anything does happen after you gave them a chance to fix it.
Cars these days are such complex computers on wheels. Yesterday I was in my son’s Fusion and as he pulled out of the driveway the wheels spun a bit on the ice. A second later a CEL came on with a warning to service the Stabilitrac system. The light went off about 30 seconds later but now I’m wondering if that computer is somehow screwed up.
I’ll throw the code reader on it later to see if it set anything.
More concerned that they really don’t know what causes the fires. Seems like it’s one thing (ABS?). But according to this article, it could be “unknown”. It’s the unknown portion that worries me.
Not commenting on its likelihood. It’s the possibility that if it does catch fire, and it’s near my house, my house catches fire, too. Not likely, but catastrophic if it does happen.
Been away a long time. Just bought this Lexus ES350 last month.
Nice parking job if it was done unassisted without automatic parking. At first the Lexus big grill was off putting to me but I have evolved in taste and perspective and now I'm liking it very much. Sounds like you had a "December to remember" moment. Very handsome car; enjoy the ride and congrats.
catching fire in the garage is certainly not something you want. Though if it happened here, would really shorten the timeline to get the junk in the house cleaned out and ready to move!

for no particular reason, I watched a video on Youtube about new electricity generating methods (geothermal) which led to a bunch on battery and storage technology. There is all kinds of neat stuff going on in that field. If some of the real exciting stuff works out, there will be good options to store from renewable (solar or wind) and batteries with way more capacity. Exciting stuff.
if batteries can get cheap while jacking up capacity, EVs really will take over (especially if the new tech allows for quicker recharging). And mass storage capacity certainly helps renewables.
our local commuter train operation (also run the bridges, and must be hemorrhaging money right now with ridership down) recently put huge solar arrays in the station parking lots (side benefit, covered parking!). Considering the trains are electric, I imagine their utility bill was quite high. If they can get most of their power from the solar, should really be cost effective.

Someone was talking about car fires. As I roam the interstates in certain parts of our area, I see the remnants of car fires as black spots on the berm of the road. There have been fewer than typical lately.
I can't think of any on a 25 mile drive strip right now. Admittedly one occasionally was a tractor pulling a semi trailer that burned, but I always feel sorry for someone who had a bad day or night when their car caught on fire leaving them along the roadside carless.

Maybe the increase of insurance company investigations into car fires has led to the decrease. 🤨
