In the Before Times, I often traveled to areas with inconsistent data quality, and this region seems to have a dearth of good terrestrial radio. For the $15/month or whatever the normal rate is, no thanks, but for the ~$5/month that I've been paying for years, I'm OK with it.

Among other things, I like listening to a person(DJ) which you don't get with other services.
We also like that you can listen to particular games while driving long distance.
It's less than $6 a month, so not at all expensive.

I'm the same with the MB hood ornament (and why I am disappointed it has been discontinued on USDM E-class for MY 2021).

Actually it’s really nice and smooth to drive and delivers surprisingly good fuel economy but is hardly a hot rod as the 307 Olds V-8 only has 140hp. Kind of strange holding the skinny rim of the wheel compared to the fat steering wheel rims of today’s cars. I like looking out over that long hood using the wreath and crest to aim the car.

    @jmonroe1,
If you have good credit, it's not a problem.
If you can't talk to someone on a phone, it's a problem.

I don’t know what “good credit” has to do with it but if it does I’ll go toe to toe with anyone about that. The way I look at it, if they don’t have my CC number I’ll never have to worry about something kerfluie happening.

I just went through this with the local newspaper subscription for my Sunday newspaper that I’ve been getting since the beginning of time. They went all CC for payment so I cancelled. They called me 3 times trying to explain how safe it is. Still refused to renew. Finally on their 4th call I got someone who said they’d bill me by mail. So, I renewed. Call me stubborn. I’ve been called a lot worse.

Thanks for the answers....it reminds me of the way cars used to be....even ones as beautiful as a Caddie like that. I like a car with a long and wide hood....I don't know why, maybe a short hood that drops off makes me feel like I am driving a bus. I also like an emblem that sticks up, our 1999 C240 had the MB emblem on the hood....I get why Fintail prefers those emblems. I forgot about those skinny hard as steel oversized steering wheels....that I don't miss. A large heavy car like that with 140 hp is hard to imagine.....wonder what 0 to 60 was?
That car is really special even today, at the time though they were the ultimate.

I don't know if the Steelers are ready for tomorrow night, but the rhino is:

For anybody not watching the Steelers game, it's already 28 to 0 in the 1st quarter. New NFL record for post season game score. Btw it's Cleveland 28. :)
Any Steeler fan who is honest will tell you they don't know how they got to 11-0. I know sometimes you win games you probably shouldn't win and I think that happened a few times.

For the haters, there is probably going to be a very different looking team next year. They need to get a running game and there are salary cap issues.

Congrats to Alabama and to Nick Saban on his 7th national championship. All discussion about Justin Field's condition after the injury against Clemson did not appear to be a factor in the game tonight. But that first series when Sermon went out with a left shoulder (collarbone?) injury was hard to watch.

Game would have played out the same but there's still no update that I've heard except that Trey was transported to the hospital.

Heisman winner DeVonta Smith went out with a right hand injury in the first half but still had 3 TDs and over 200 yards? Waddle was in the game and said to be limping during the pregame warmups! There's a video of Waddle coming off the field and limping badly in 3rd qtr but I'm not gonna post that. Yikes.

Before the game tonight I saw a headline asking if it was even worth it to have a college football national championship game for 2020. How does a sports journalist ask that if they really have been watching the players and coaches pushing themselves thru this covid season? Meant something to them! Even without fans in the stands, no marching bands and none of the usual perks of getting to any bowl game.

A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.

On another topic....I got new running shoes and they are a bit tight....so while I am putting my shoes on to walk the dog with Mrs D100 I mention I am going to put on a bunion pad.

That's why Amazon's alexa will never be in my home. I recall the Buick commercials about the Buick Alexa. Ain't happening for me. Same for Cortana on my PC. Shut down.
And my Android phone has Google (Alphabet) trying to make me use Google listens or something like that and use Bixby Home, whatever that is... was... Uninstalled Bixby. Turned off the google listens.

I wanted to get a Toyota Avalon Limited that matched my old car, but at that point, I was looking at $46K. Might as well go ahead and instead get a Lexus. We test drove an Avalon Limited with the 2.5 four and even my wife said it didn’t have the pep of my 2007 with the 3.5; that it seemed to struggle going uphill.

Did they abandon the V6 in the Avalon? I thought that drivetrain was one of the highlights of the car.

For a while, I had a little transport business I was running for dealerships around me. I transported a couple of Avalons. At the time (mid-2020), the Toyota dealership I was doing transports for had a 2020 Avalon on the showroom floor (I think it was a limited) for $8K off MSRP. May have been a demo as I never checked the mileage on it. But, it’s pretty rare they put their demos in the showroom. But, that discount brought the price down to the $38K range.

I can’t even imagine how sluggish it would be with a “non-blown” 4 cyl.

They still have the V-6 in the Avalon, but they didn’t have a V-6 Avalon Limited in stock at the time. They had an Avalon Limited with a 2.5 four, but the car is too big for such a tiny engine.

I don't consider myself a Luddite, but I don't have any "smart" home stuff where you have to talk to it, or it listens, either. I still feel dorky talking to an appliance, and I don't see the automation as saving me any energy - I don't live in a 6000 sq ft cardboard mcmansion.

However, I do leave google location services on, so I can reminisce about past trips. The "Timeline" feature is cool, I can look back and say "that was a fun day":

I get plenty of scam telemarketing calls, but not for warranties. This week's version is a recorded female voice (which always sounds like every other recorded female voice on such calls) saying that my Amazon Prime account will be renewed for $39.95 annually with an auto-debit from my bank account. I have Prime, but I pay by the month and use the credit card on file with Amazon. I suspect most people do the same so I dunno how this one is supposed to work for the scamsters.

    @driver100,
I not going to spend my time worrying about such an unlikely scenario.
Any likely guardian or executor would know enough to cancel any credit cards.

they want to somehow get your account info.

I got a call today from a caller ID that was part of my doctor's office. since I was waiting for a lab order to go in from them, I got up to answer it, waking the sleeping dogs (never a desirable thing when trying to accomplish something). Turned out to be a robo scam call claiming to be Amazon, locking my account due to discrepancies. annoying, and bad luck with the random local extension number they decided to spoof.

The best though was the time that I called myself based on the caller ID.

Sounds impressive. Does it have a brand name or is it a No-Name product. Where did you buy it? What made you buy this one compared to the others? Questions....questions?????????

I bought it at Best Buy and the company is TCL. I understand they are now dominating the low-end market segment around the world and this QLED model, the TCL 8-Series mini-LED, is their flagship competing directly with Sony, LG and Samsung.
Costco is advertising a 65" LG for $379. in my area. That is sort of unbelievable.
That must be an open box price. I don't see anything that low on their website. The Highsense however have a much lower price for the 65"
It is now showing $499. UN7300 series 65 in. LG

    @jmonroe1,
Not sure why you and others are afraid to give SAT radio your credit card#.
If you cancel, you get a credit.
You're more at risk using it at a restaurant.

If you die or get dementia or end up immobilized in a nursing home they will collect the inflated yearly fee forever!
If by forever you mean the expiration date of the credit card then yes.
Hopefully, your survivors would know to cancel your credit cards.
That doesn't happen overnight. It could take an executor a year or more to settle an estate. Meanwhile Sirius is ripping you off....well, ripping off your estate. :'(
Have you considered an afterlife insurance plan? Recommended by Alexa. Check your email.
PS. Your car warranty is in danger of expiring. We've been trying to reach you. :)
I didn't know afterlife policies existed...I'll have to look into that. (forgot to add ;) )

It reminds me, when our kids were in diapers 40 years ago and money was scarce, a friend told me I could save money buying a huge box of diapers if I drove an hour and a half to Buffalo to them pick up. I told him it would be a waste if I got hit by a bus and had all my money invested in diapers when I could have gone out for a nice dinner.

My brother recently got a Jeep Compass.

They’ve improved those over older models. I drove one recently and thought it was a Cherokee.

......that can be 3 or 4 years later! I would be really angry paying out if I wasn't around to listen.
Consider it getting back at your kids when they have to pay it back from your estate.

I get tons of calls from numbers that have first same 6 digits. It’s like they think you’ll pick up because the number is similar.

Those warranty calls are out of control. I block the number and like magic I get more calls of the same from different numbers. So annoying.

The funny thing is that I don't get them on my personal cell phone but I get them on my work cell phone all the time.

When you guys get your first and then second Covid vaccination, the first vaccination is not bad - just a sore arm. The second vaccination symptoms are more intense - I should have drank a lot of fluids but I did not. I woke up sweaty, dehydrated and achy like I had the flu. Apparently that Is somewhat common so be prepared and drink lots of fluids.

One guy in my group who had Covid earlier did not have any symptoms other than a sore arm for both vaccinations.

Feeling crummy is your body ramping up the anti-bodies, isn't it? You know the vaccine is working then...or am I out in left field somewhere?

Correct. Better to feel bad short term and get a good result. No pain. No gain.
