Since I don’t hang out in CCBA anymore (too dangerous of a place when you have a couple extra bucks), how about a cut and paste of what you said over there.

When I was a teen I worked at the local Howard Johnson’s as a dish washer. A coworker named John was convinced that the moon landings were fake. He claimed that the fuzzy TV transmissions could have been workers putting tar on the roof of the supermarket next door.

I wrote that and then I thought it might get forgotten....so I found it:

The road is at an end.
First, I had to make up my mind whether I really wanted a wagon/suv type vehicle. I don’t haul enough cargo or people for a wagon/suv to be of much use. So, as nice as the Volvo XC40 and as interesting as the Ford Bronco Sport were, they’re off the list. As an aside, went back to the Ford store yesterday to make sure I was no longer interested in the Bronco Sport. Brought my lightning cable with me to listen to the B&O stereo. B&O should be ashamed of themselves putting their stamp on the Bronco’s stereo. Perhaps because of the Bronco’s design, B&O couldn’t acoustically do what they needed to do. But, for a premium stereo manufacturer, it’s an embarrassment in the Bronco.
The Supra....really fun car. Not a daily driver. If I had/wanted another vehicle to use in addition to the Supra, I’d be very serious about it, especially on some of the deals I’m seeing with them. Perhaps if I lived in So Cal or FL, it would work better, too. But, I don’t. So, that’s off my list.
Teslas.....I totally get their appeal. They’ve hit the button in the electric space. Plus, they’ve been in the space for so long, they have a pretty good handle on how and what their vehicles should and can do. Styling? I just can’t like it. Nothing against those who do, but every time I see one, I am underwhelmed vs other thoughts like “handsome” or “good looking”. I’m just not there yet on EVs. I do find them fascinating and would probably never worry about range anxiety. That said, charging stations in OH aren’t nearly as plentiful as they are in someplace like California. So, at least for now, I’m not a customer. But, that’s the direction the industry is going, so if I live long enough, I’ll have an EV gracing the GG estate sooner rather than later.
For grins, I also drove a Honda Accord Touring yesterday. Honda just continues to make good cars that are just sporty enough to be interesting. I know it competes with the likes of the Camry, Malibu, Sonata, etc. But, having driven most of its competition in one form or another, it’s easy to see why it’s so well liked. It’s quick. It’s comfy. It handles on the good-ish area for a family car. Just a nice overall vehicle. Styling? I’m ambivalent.
Re-tested both the 330i and 340i. I like both. 340i was knocking at the $60K door. That’s off the table. 330i...fun drive. It’s been a while since I had my last BMW, and they’ve changed pretty dramatically. Quick, handled well, dealer didn’t have any colors that excited me. And, for reasons I can’t quite put my fingers on, I wasn’t excited test driving it. Yes, it had the Whiz-Bang digital dash that’s popular these days. The ones I drove did not have the sports seats, so not good-not bad, pretty mediocre. Again, handled well, braked well, was plenty fast.
But.......
Test drove the TLX A-Spec yesterday. Acuras have always “floated my boat”. I like the way they look. I like their tech. I like the way they drive. I like they’re not expensive to maintain. The key, is the Type-S worth waiting for? Plus, will it be over the $50K limit I’ve set? Said it before, but it is likely to be very close to the driving dynamics of the Stinger GT, which I just sold.
So, is the new TLX an Accord clone? They feel like two different cars. The new TLX is much more polished. They’ve done wonders with the new SH-AWD system. It rotates in corners and sweepers like it has no limits. I would imagine once you hit those limits, things will get really hairy, really quickly, though. LOVE the way it handles. It’s not as fast as the Stinger....not even close. But, it is quick. Butt-o-meter says high 5s-low 6s 0-60. That’s not @roadburner fast. But, good for just about anything I want. Seats were just wonderful. Supportive, but not rock hard. They upgraded just about everything in the car. Materials are much better. They were always top of class in build quality. The new one’s no different.
I thought the ELS stereo in my old TLX was wonderful, the one in the new TLX (ELS 3D) is fantastic....once again, the best stereo I’ve heard in any car, at any price. Brakes are strong and linear.
You’d never know they’re brake by wire.
See where this is headed?
Would the S-Type make me regret not waiting? Given I just sold the Stinger, I doubt it. I’ve worked with the Acura dealer enough (and the same GM, SM and sales person) through the years, the deal is easy. It’s the same deal I always make.....quick, simple, they sell a car, I buy a car, no one gets hurt. No one goes home thinking they got the shaft. It’s a good deal.
I bought it.
Pics to follow!
Well, that long winded diatribe was cathartic!
But we wouldn't mind seeing the pictures....at least what color did you get GG?

Found it at a flea market just north of me. It’s been sitting, staring at me from my closet of unused audio gear I’ve accumulated over the years.
Not sure what I’m going to do with it. Wish HEATHKIT was still in business. I used to love their electronics kits. For the initiated, HEATHKIT was a company who would sell you everything you needed in kit form to assemble audio gear. I would spend days assembling some of their kits when I was a teen. Had many burned fingers/hand from an errant solder drop or mishandled soldering iron.
That post outlines just about everything I did to test drive, evaluate, and end up buying my old faithful brand, Acura.
Test drove some nice and interesting vehicles I had been considering in the past. That was fun. Still ended up with the Acura.
These pics are over at CCBA, too. But, if you’re too.....ummmmmm.......lazy to go look (j/K), here they are again.....

I was poking around the B&O site and saw that the company is selling “recreated” Beograd 4000 turntables. I haven’t seen one of those in decades.
I have a Carver 6250 receiver and a pair of ADC 303AX speakers that I plant to install in my heated garage. I just need to decide on my source components.

Our primary home has Klipsch outdoor speakers tied into the whole house audio and I installed outdoor speakers on our deck down the shore.
For the beach I bought a much smaller BT speaker from Amazon for $40 that is lighter, lasts longer and good enough for that duty. Sometimes I throw it in the golf cart. It’s never gotten used at the house.

I liked the Stinger too but I think this is less flashy but more classic looking....it will look good for a long time.
Add a signature though.....although I know it is hard for you to keep it current.

Overall impressions....
-it’s faster than my previous TLX with the 3.5L V6 with more low end torque. Honda/Acura makes great engines. The V6 was smooth as silk. This I4 is no different. It’s actually smoother than just about any 4 cyl I’ve ever driven, and that includes some good ones from the likes of BMW and Audi/VW. It’s also noticeably slower than the Stinger. The TLX feels quick, though....maybe high 5s 0-60 in normal driving.
-The structure feels much more rigid than my last TLX and the Stinger. The result is a very flat cornering stance and a very secure experience over bumps. As such, it rides better than the last TLX or the Stinger.
-The steering is more precise even though it feels lighter than the last TLX. It’s about the same as the stinger.
-The SH AWD system has obviously been updated. I don’t think I’ve ever driven any sedan, FWD, RWD, AWD...that handles as well as this TLX....that includes my previous Stinger. Given, I’ve never driven any of the BMW M cars or any AMG cars, I have driven Audi S4s and my son’s GTI. The TLX is better.
-Brakes are easily modulated and linear.
-Visibility is WAY BETTER than it was in the Stinger.
-Seats are wonderfully supportive AND comfortable. Acura is doing some great seats these days. Heated and cooled...thumbs up! Milano leather (whatever kind of leather that is) is soft and feels very high quality. Seats have a suede/alcantara insert which is grippy and looks good to boot.
-Back seat is tight. For a car that’s bigger that its predecessor, they sure didn’t save much to increase rear seat room. That’s OK! I don’t ride back there.
-The InfoTainment....this one took some getting used to. Nice update by Acura with the new software for the NAV. And, the voice recognition is excellent. But, the TLX uses a track pad. I’m coming from a touchscreen in the Stinger and the dial/wheel in my previous TLX. The first couple of days, I didn’t even bother using the track pad as it frustrated me. I did use voice commands and hard buttons, which all worked well. But, once I understood that you point and press on the track pad, the button on the screen is highlighted and you go directly to that choice. It’s more direct and there is no touch pad or dial scrolling to get to the choice you want. I get it now. No problems. Took me 2 or 3 days to understand, though.
-Acura does stereos well. The ELS 3D is the best I’ve ever heard in any car, at any price. I actually downloaded some multi-channel music files to a thumb drive. They sound glorious. I also have HD and UHD music coming off my phone. Just excellent all the way around.
-Push button trans....had it in my previous TLX. No problems then...no problems now. The buttons are intuitive and different shapes. Park (rectangle) is at the top of the stack, Drive (circle) is at the bottom of the stack. Reverse you pull backwards (makes perfect sense), and Neutral is in the middle. It falls easily to my hand, and there’s even a little soft leather hand rest I use to operate the entire center stack. Easy-peazy! Do it with my eyes closed.
-Big center button to change drive modes...really? C’mon Acura...this isn’t a Lamborghini or Ferrari. Does it really have to be so large given it’s a secondary function? That said, the different drive modes work well....much better than before.
-Safety stuff has all been upgraded. It all works better than before. LKAS and slow speed cruise work much better than before and not nearly as intrusive. No more “boat anchor” feeling when traffic slows down and the TLX is keeping pace. I don’t use LKAS unless I’m on a trip. But, it keeps the car centered, with no bouncing from one side of the lane to the other.
-10-speed transmission...thank you Acura deities for dumping the ZF transmission. Can’t trip up this new transmission. Smooth shifting, ready to down shift with little provocation (especially in Sport Mode). No jerkiness. Big upgrade.
-Big upgrade in materials. REAL STITCHED (red) dash and doors. No fake metal, real aluminum trim, fun ambient lighting changes. All buttons look high quality and operate with a quality feel. Red on silver gauges are easy to read. Big, new NAV screen with much better software and higher resolution. Been using the Acura Nav system as the voice recognition is very good and easy to operate. Steering wheel feels great, is fat and fits my hands well. Assembly is typical Honda....of the highest order (and yes, better than the Stinger).
-Paint is gorgeous (pearlescent white, which looks way better in person than in pics). Seams are all uniform and tight (typical Honda/Acura).
Overall, it’s a much more refined car than the previous one. Which is sort of weird for something that’s as capable as it is.
I’m in my honeymoon period. So, love is in the air. Will give an update this summer some time after flogging it for a while.
And I agree on the touchpad. I tried it when my SIL bought an RDX (year before us) and it seemed odd. But once we got a real demo from the sales guy, then started using it, it works just fine. Don’t even notice it now. Same for the push buttons, but I still prefer a normal shifter.

They just don’t clean the same. We do a campfire on the weekends and sometimes whatever you are wearing smells like smoke. Neither machine can get the smell out on a normal cycle. Have to do a pre-soak and an extra rinse for any chance. Obviously that wipes out the energy efficiency. We use good soap and the machines are cleaned regularly.
I saw one of the manufacturers is going back to a full agitator that’s removable. That’s interesting

I would give one of my unmentionable body parts that comes in pairs to find an old Dynaco tube amp to rehab.
There are a couple of tube amp chassis out there you can buy...mostly from Hong Kong, but supposedly good quality. You can do the hand wiring/soldering. And, install a PCB for some integration features. I'm tempted to get one, since the build is relatively easy. I could do some "tube rolling". But, that's a whole other audio world.

They suck for this! The only LG product I would consider going forward is an OLED TV, and even that would give me pause. I am making people aware of my experience and their attitude. Others have told me similar experiences with Samsung and even a Kitchenaid refrigerator.
Grrrr....
