Appliances - have my own story to share. Kitchen has GE appliance all around. They came with the house, which is now 5 years old.
Loaded up the dishwasher yesterday and discovered it had no power. Nada. Checked the main panel and found that the breaker had tripped. Reset it and all is well.
However, this is the third different breaker that has tripped for us in the past few months. First two were GFCI outlets, one in the master bath and the other in the basement - which happens to control the outlets on the front porch and back patio. These outlets both have security cameras attached to them, so when the breaker trips, the cameras stop working.
Had an electrician come out and put in a 20 amp breaker, to replace the 15 amp that was there. So far, no issues with those outlets.
But, I've never had so many issues with the electricity at any of the houses we've owned. Not sure what could be causing this.
I’m surprised no one hasn’t commented on this already.
You should NEVER arbitrarily replace a 15 amp breaker with a 20 amp breaker. This is akin to putting a penny in a fuse box. If you had a 15 amp breaker it was probably because that circuit was wired with #14 gauge copper wire. If somehow the circuit was wired with #12 gauge copper wire (which is good for 20 amps), then the circuit breaker was undersized for the wire by using a 15 amp breaker. This is the safe way to go but why wire for 20 amps then use a 15 amp breaker? This is almost never done. I could tell you when this is acceptable but does anyone really want to know this?
If I were you I’d have a knowledgeable person check to see what wire size is used for the circuit in question. If that electrician oversized the breaker (in this case using a 20 amp breaker when a 15 amp breaker should be used), I’d NEVER use that electrician again.
Now having said all that, if a dishwasher is operating properly it will NEVER pop a 15 amp breaker nor would it even pop a 10 amp breaker for that matter.
So @jmonroe, what are you saying here? I hate to say it but if your dishwasher is popping a good breaker the dishwasher is more than likely going bad. Not to worry, we need a dishwasher story in here again.
jmonroe
I hate to admit it but you make a lot of sense. The other possibility is that there are too many outlets or devices running on that same circuit. We’re the cameras always running on it?
How old is the breaker? What else is on the circuit with the dishwasher?
If there are other things on the breaker and the breaker has age on it, it may have "weakened" and may be tripping on the slow current draw breaker thermal strip below 15 amp.
When I remodeled the kitchen, the refrigerator got its own new circuit and the dishwasher was already on one from when the home was built. The microwave above the range also got its own circuit. I think the frig and micro were on the same circuit.
I assume the electrician knew to consider the possibility of an aged breaker tripping at under 15. I hope he also checked the rating plates on the things on the dishwasher circuit.

The Genesis G90 Saga continues, but at least it's getting more and more interesting with every passing day. So, I decided to post the entire saga, as it unfolded, since I bought the Genesis G90.....
.... So that's the Saga. They want two more working days for the engineers in Korea and California to try to solve the problem and if that is unsuccessful, waiting until May 15th for a radio that may or may not solve the problem would be fool-hearty. I now have to hope that everything works out as the Corporate Manager foresees. I am quite pleased with his intervention and his problem-solving approach. He seems honest and truly wants to see an end to this as much as I do. That's more than I can say for the dealership's Concierge. Just another b___ll____er trying to b____ll___it a b____ll_____er!!!
Well Mike, I read every word of your essay and if I may be forward enough to offer an unsolicited opinion, I would suggest that you exchange your G90 for another but fully loaded trouble-free G90. Good luck my brother.

I was at the dealership this morning to pick up my sunglasses from my car. According to the Concierge at the dealership, Genesis engineers have been sending data updates directly to my car from California and receiving feedback in the form of data from my car. They might be able to correct the problem in the next day or two, but that remains to be seen. Will report on any new info I receive.
As for a new car - that is up to Genesis right now. Lemon law does not take effect until 3 attempts have been unsuccessful or 30 days in the shop with no resolution.
at least they have you driving basically the same car. So look at it this way. Keeping down the miles on the one you own!
True, but I prefer my own car as I am sure you would as well. I just hope this saga ends soon and I can get back to worrying about more important things in my life.🤪😜
Any interest in one of these. Frank Stronach of Magna International.....makes a lot of car parts for many brands believes this is the future to get you downtown. Goes about 60 miles on a charge, top speed 20 mph, has a trunk, sells for about $4000 U.S., 1 passenger for use as a city car. Can you see yourself having one? It should carry 2 so you could use them at The Villages if the comuter idea doesn't work out.

I don't think there are street legal golf carts.....really street legal. I think this qualifies as street legal because it is like a bicycle really, doesn't require a car license. Stronach is thinking the big cities can't handle more regular cars....and each car has one person driving, so I guess you park your car outside the city and these are all people would be allowed to use.

I could be wrong but I think the rules vary by city and possibly state. Here in Ontario you can't drive them on streets, in our town in Florida they can't be used on streets (only on walkways), but in the next town over you can drive them on streets but not major streets with a speed limit over 30 mph. In some place you can go anywhere...like The Villages in Florida.

Speaking of tires...here is my dilemma; Mrs Ds GLK has 21000 miles on it. She noticed a clicking noise and when we looked there is the head of a bolt...with a washer lodged into the tread. I could take the bolt out but will all the air come out if it has cut into the tire? If I take it to the dealer or tire place will they pull it out , and then patch it up, or should I make sure they have replacement tires....I guess she needs to replace both? The tires are Dunlops 235/40R20 Grandtrek Touring. Any suggestions are welcome....except ones telling me what to do with my tires in an impolite way.

If it's right in the middle of the tread, you can have a tire shop remove the bolt and repair the damage. Tire should be good to go, at that point.
How much tread is on the tires? I know with AWD vehicles you don't want too much difference in tread depth between front and back.
@driver100, What year is your GLK? At a certain point, the tires should be replaced due to age. If the bolt is in the tread area, it could be fixed, so don't just let the first 'NO' stop you from getting another opinion.

His signature line indicates it's a 2015 GLK. Not sure if they are the original tires, however.

Thanks for the comments guys. It is a 2015 MB GLK....I took the size off the tires and double checked on a Tire Dealers website....the tires for this car.
Brand Tire Size Part Number Quantity Price Dunlop Grandtrek Touring Mo P235/45R20 The car was bought in 2016 and it has 21000 miles on it...original tires. I know they say to replace tires after 6 years but I think that is on the early side....I understand they should probably last for 10 years but I think 8 would be a good time to buy new ones.
It sounds like I should go to a tire dealer and have them patch it for now. The car isn't used much so we could put the spare on until new tires come in if the patch doesn't work. It has AWD and I thought if tires are replaced, you do it in pairs....it is the left rear so a matching rear wheel.

That picture is the first I can recall that I have seen the controls in the back. I have seen them on the side but never in the back.
Gas stoves are preferred due to having more control over the heat from the stove. Temperature adjustments on a gas stove are instant but an electric stove has to heat up or cool down with the temperature adjustment. It's also easier to gauge temperatures of a gas stove just by looking.
I think you mean the gas range top burner/s not the stove/oven where you make pizza.

From Edmunds: Many automakers, including Ford, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz, tell owners to replace tires six years after their production date, regardless of tread life. Tire manufacturers such as Continental and Michelin say a tire can last up to 10 years provided you get annual tire inspections after the fifth year.

It really varies. I remember my Mom’s 96 Thunderbird had OEM Firestones that were dry rot at around 5 years. I’ve had Michelin last 10 and still look great after 50K.
Nice night tonight. Threw some ribeyes on the grill now chillin’ by the fire with a nice dirty martini.
An F150 is about twice the size of a GLK, but it was just fine with 22 inch 45 series tires. My wife's MKC has 20 inch 255/40 series tires. She doesn't complain about them. So what's the problem?

I wouldn't buy Dunlop tires, they were original equipment, but they have been alright. Temperatures here are not extreme, and the car is in a garage 98% of the time.....so I think 6 years could get stretched to at least 8. The tires are inspected yearly during the oil change. Tires are 235 45R20. Remember the GLK is a small SUV in size, but has the same engine as the E400, 330 HP. Thanks for the comments, I'll make an appointment to get it patched for now - see how that goes.

Fintail's tires are 8 years old now, no signs of rot, they look fine, but the car sleeps indoors and does maybe 1500 miles a year. Hoping to get at least a few more years out of them.

I think that in most states this would qualify legally as an autocycle not a bicycle. However with a top speed of only 20 MPH in most states you wouldn't be required to have it registered or have insurance but check with your state to see what the requirements are.

Stronach is thinking the big cities can't handle more regular cars....and each car has one person driving, so I guess you park your car outside the city and these are all people would be allowed to use.

Mrs Ds GLK has 21000 miles on it.

How much tread is on the tires? I know with AWD vehicles you don't want too much difference in tread depth between front and back.

What year is your GLK?
At a certain point, the tires should be replaced due to age.
If the bolt is in the tread area, it could be fixed, so don't just let the first 'NO' stop you from getting another opinion.

Thanks, didn't take notice of the sig info.
Tires might be aged out.
you sure about that size? 235/40 is super skinny performance car territory.

It is a 2015 MB GLK....I took the size off the tires and double checked on a Tire Dealers website....the tires for this car.
Brand Tire Size Part Number Quantity Price
Dunlop Grandtrek Touring Mo P235/45R20
The car was bought in 2016 and it has 21000 miles on it...original tires.

Jack Norris goalie. He played some rehab games in Springfield MA(AHL).
Saw his first game there, 49 save shutout.
agreed that they are not old enough to replace if the tread is good and not dry rotted.

An F150 isn't a CUV.
From Edmunds:
Many automakers, including Ford, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz, tell owners to replace tires six years after their production date, regardless of tread life. Tire manufacturers such as Continental and Michelin say a tire can last up to 10 years provided you get annual tire inspections after the fifth year.

My wife's MKC has 20 inch 255/40 series tires. She doesn't complain about them.
So what's the problem?
Temperatures here are not extreme, and the car is in a garage 98% of the time.....so I think 6 years could get stretched to at least 8. The tires are inspected yearly during the oil change.
Tires are 235 45R20. Remember the GLK is a small SUV in size, but has the same engine as the E400, 330 HP.
Thanks for the comments, I'll make an appointment to get it patched for now - see how that goes.

Tell Mrs driver100 that Mercedes recommends replacing tires after 6 years, but you are going to wait until 8 years.
Let us know how that goes.
